ok, please bear with me. I am going to provide logs, at end, as well as inline images... I noticed a problem with my EMBY server tonight (Version 3.2.60.0 on windows 10) no recent windows updates, I believe the server updated a week or so ago, but problem only seemed to occur after a reboot tonight. first, got a error message when playing a file (see log #1, emby-nogo-cm-5x13.log ** FILE 1** that's the log just under the main log (I guess the decoder file) I did verify that there is a file there, (as shown below here...) Next I tried another episode Criminal minds emby-nogo-cm-5-14emby-nogo-cm-5x14.log.log ** FILE 2** didn't snap a picture -- same results as previous message. Next is the emby-nogo.log ** FILE 3** at this time i rebooted pc and logged in again. next I tried a file in a different directory and for some reason,emby-ok-tds-2017-120.log also worked. ** FILE 4** I then looked in my logs file, and found something from last week I know (also) worked (last week tonight emby-ok-lwt-fron 01-03-18.log ** FILE 5 ** and last, I included the main-emby-01-03-18-0000.log ** FILE 6** and finally my most current log-file from main-emby-01-06-18-2140.log so, I hope I posted enough info to figure out why some stuff isn't playing again, let me know if I need to add more info, and what. thanks again

Hi Folks, I am using Emby for a while now and I really enjoy it for DVD playback - I have digitised all of my DVD library which works great. I have recently moved on to my BluRay library and I am noticing a playback issue using the browser as a player, I also have an emby app on an android TV box and notice the same issue. The server Emby is on is purpose built CPU: AMD FX 6300 Hexa Core Processor 3.50GHz RAM: 32 GB OS: Currently Windows 10, Planning to switch to Server 2016 Storage: OS Disk 500GB SSD 500meg Read 500meg Write (where Emby is installed) Video Storage Disk 1+2 8 TB HDD 7200 RPM 128meg cache The MKV's from the BluRays are usually circa 30GB in size I will say that I am extremely new to emby and video stuff in general so I am not sure what info is useful and what's not. The settings on emby are defaults as per the installation. One thing I noticed when playing the Blu Ray files from Emby is the Network usage shoots up on the emby server - Not sure if its expected/normal or if I need to consider NIC teaming The other thing I noticed is if I sit and suffer the freezes (and there are lots) usually mid way through the movie it will stop freezing and/or happen less frequently unless you rewind or fast forward. Does anyone have any setting recommendations I could try just to rule out simple stuff?? I have done all the usual host stuff such as ensure power management is not switching off stuff, all drivers are up to date, disk read/write is fine and tonnes of space for the temp/cache directory. Any/All suggestions greatly welcome Also if there are some logs I can provide to help, or do a debug during playback, just tell me what and Ill get it done. Cheers M

It would be great if the Chromecast Ultra profile would be updated to allow direct playing of VP9, Opus, and mkv/webm containers. They all definitely work, as I can direct play them with all transcoding turned off. The reference VP9 encoder (libvpx in ffmpeg) pushed out an update in October that allows for much faster encoding than before, making VP9 a useable codec for me (and others). All of those codecs and containers are open and freely licensed as well, which is a great thing to support. Also, VP9 + Opus + webm is directly playable in Chrome, Firefox, and Opera (as well as Edge if an experimental flag is enabled) which makes up a large percentage of browser use.

Hi all, I just switched from Plex to Emby just to give it a go. I have a WD TV Live that I'm using in the lounge however EAC3 audio isn't supported by WD and I can't for the life of me get Emby to automatically transcode it like Plex does. Here is a screenshot of the media info: https://imgur.com/fJXyJx4 Thanks in advance Nathaniel

Gracias!

Hi, when I try to listen a 720p MKV file with the new roku app, there is no sound, but when I start the SAME file with the old app, the sound is working. You have an explanation? Thank you.

Is there a way to enable automatic deinterlacing for MKVs extract from NTSC DVD files? Playing back DVD content I see strong interlacing artifiacts (offset horizontal lines, particularly around edges). (A quick check with VLC, turning on its deinterlacing feature eliminates that artifact, showing it's deinterlacing that's needed.) Not sure if this is a Server or Application-specific question. Thanks.

No OSD/Information Overlay when Playing or Pausing Certain Files (KS8000)
FatOldOwl posted a topic in Samsung Smart TV
Issue description: I'm having some issues with the Emby app on my new UN65KS8000 TV. When playing or pausing certain movies there is no information overlay/OSD as there is when I play most other files. The movies play fine and I can still pause/resume the movie with the play/pause button but the usual screen overlay is not there. I also can't use the back button to go back to Emby. Instead I must hold down the back button to kill the app. I've also noticed that the files that have issues always seem to have non-English subtitles. I rarely if ever use subtitles and when I try to disable them is when I noticed I can't access the overlay menu. For a little background, I've been using Emby for a few years now and love it! Until I purchased this TV we've used Emby via Roku's about 90% time with web and Windows apps taking up the rest. I've never had any issues with those methods. At least not that I can recall. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Steps to reproduce: Play any of the particular files where this issue happens. My TV/HTS/BD Player model number: Samsung UN65KS8000 w/ Samsung Smart TV 2.4.0 My firmware version: 1162 Other TVs etc. the issue has been reproduced on: None, this is my only Tizen TV. My Emby server version: 3.2.1.0 My current Emby Samsung client version: 2.0.1 Other Emby Samsung versions the issue can be reproduced in: N/A Supporting information to include logs and pictures where applicable: I've attached the following files with a rip of Hotel Transylvania as an example: - Server logs -> Redwood Emby Server Log.txt - Media Info export from the Hotel Transylvania mkv files -> MediaInfo - Hotel Transylvania (2012) mkv.txt - A JSON file per the instructions on the "How to report a problem" sticky -> Hotel Transylvania (2012) mkv API JSON.txt -
(I was counseled to post this as a feature request here, having previously posted this in the General/Windows forum) Hi everybody! I've been messing around with codec intros lately and there is some weird behavior I came across. The intros themselves work great, but I was finding that my AC3 movies kept showing the AAC intro. I tried using mkvtoolnix to change the default audio track with the same result. After more tinkering, I found that I had to change the actual track order in the MKV in order for my AC3 intro to actually show. It is like Emby uses the first audio track it finds and uses it, even if the AC3 (or DTS or whatever) track is set as default and the playback option to play the default track, regardless of language, is set. It follows then that Emby seemingly cannot play any other audio track itself without manual intervention in the play UI. In other words, I had to modify my MKV in order to make Emby do what the default audio playback setting should have already done. For people who are having the same issue, here are the sequence of mkvtoolnix commands that worked for me: mkvmerge --track-order 0:0,0:2,0:1,0:3 in.mkv -o out.mkv mkvpropedit -v out.mkv -v --edit track:2 --set track-uid=2 --edit track:3 --set track-uid=3 mkvpropedit out.mkv --edit track:a1 --set flag-default=1 --edit track:a2 --set flag-default=0 This assumes the following initial track ID order: 0 - video 1 - aac 2 - ac3/eac3 3 - sub (If I didn't set the UIDs, the audio would work but the wrong codec would be displayed under the plot summary.) I have seen the behavior both in Emby Theater (Xbox) and the regular browser-based UI. I am running Emby Server 3.2.12 on Fedora 21.

(I'd somewhat highjacked someone else's thread on transcoding. I'll leave theirs be and start this new one.) I had confusing experiences with Emby's transcoding. I did some intentional tests and better understand what's happening. These aren't bug reports. But I'm looking for more insights on how to best use Emby and ideally be able to live transcode content instead of having duplicate pre-transcoded copies. My system: Emby Premiere (3.2.9.0 during testing) ffmpeg is March 10, 2016 (I think) (installed by Emby into the Emby folders, I believe) Skylake i5 3.2 GHz (6th Gen 6500) Intel Graphics HD 530 Windows 10 Connected by 100Mbps switch to 1Gpbs LAN Testing by streaming to a 4th Gen AppleTV connected to the same 100Mbps switch running tvOS Emby

What, if any, are the solutions for playing 3D movies in MVC MKV Format from Emby Theater? @, Or, am I better off playing 3D blu-rays with PowerDVD? I find scattered threads on the topic, but nothing definitive or detailed. It looks like the solutions are PowerDVD to play the original blu-ray or something called Stereoscopic Player. It appears the ET doesn't natively support 3D, which is what I saw tonight quickly trying out a new 3D movie. What do people do for 3D from Emby Theater on a Win10 system? Opinions on Audio to Retain/Discard when Converting to MKV?
funwithmedia posted a topic in Non-Emby General Discussion
So though I'm currently still planning to keep most of my Movies in the old VIDEO_TS format, I am persuaded as the benefits of (slowly) converting my TV shows to MKV. In one recent conversion I noticed that MakeMKV defaulted to un-selecting (ie, not including in the outputted MKV file) DD Stereo, while retaining DD Surround 5.1. I'm definitely interested in retaining the best quality audio options in my files, but I'm wondering if there is anything I should be aware of regarding stripping out "lower" audio options like MakeMKV appears to default to? My current setup is a 2.1 system, but am thinking about upgrading at some point (possibly to a 5.1 type of setup). I guess I just wonder in part if I might run into issues because of not having the more basic audio options in my files, or if Emby (and apps in general these days) should do fine with downmixing (is that the right term?) as needed? All thoughts and opinions welcome -- thanks! -
after struggle i found a way to play probably all video in my library via DLNA( the ones i have checked works ) i have two panasonic tv one old probably 7 years and one new just bought. profile that works for me on both tv is in transcoding tab TS, h264, mp3 it has to have option "enable M2ts mode" ON and other two off in advanced, and i removed MOV profile as well as DTS and AC3 from all profiles since they will not work on panasonic. now the problem 1. i have is that this tvs will play subtitles only on MKV container and as i said it wont play if i change TS to MKV. problem 2. is i cant pause or rewind for some reason despite trying options in advanced tab of profile and all posible combinations of MKV TS MP4 AVI my setup is QNAP 253 PRO and EMBY Version 3.1.2.0 my server is on intel and im using ffmpeg binary static 3.2.2 pls help

I have recently ripped a Blu-Ray, We're the Millers, to mkv. The videos and trailers are unwatchable due to stuttering. I have tried adjusting the streaming bitrate, to no avail. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Android client and Android TV client - Playback Error/Server Transcoding issue?
api182 posted a topic in General/Windows
Playback Error When I try to play a specific movie on either my Android TV box or my OnePlus 3 I get the attached error message, the Android TV client attempts it a couple of times before failing completely... If I navigate to this file directly and play it in VLC for Android or SPMC it plays fine, I've watched the film through and it's not corrupt or anything like that so I don't understand what's going on..? The error log doesn't seem to give much away but I gather it's not transcoding for whatever reason, I have created a custom path to a temp transcoding folder in the hope that would fix it, I've also downloaded the latest version of ffmpeg and pointed Emby to use that version instead as a just in case but nothing works... So I'm here to put it to you guys :-) Attached is the screenshot from Android and the log it produces on the server... Cheers! :-) transcode-log.txt- 14 replies

I'm trying to steam an .mkv video file though the Emby android Tv app. It is running on a sony bravia kdl-50w800c. Hi, I wasn't sure where to post this, as I don't know whether it is a server or client side issue. I've recently replaced a failing SSD in my Windows 8.1 server and reinstalled Windows and Emby Server, along with Media Center Master. For the last few weeks I have been encountering issues with streaming videos to Edge on Xbox One and now Chrome on MacOS 10.11.6. The video will start playing fine for a few minutes then pause, sometimes it will continue, others it will just stay paused indefinitely. Originally, I was only having this issue with playing Friends ripped from Blu-Ray, as the MKV's were a direct stream rip from the Blu-Ray at full bitrate. I started re-ripping them to a maximum bitrate of 8000-9000mbps which solved the problem, but now it is happening from downloaded TV series as well. I have pretty much given up trying to watch anything from the server now as it is too frustrating with the frequent pausing. What can I do to solve this?

Hi All, I'm new to Emby and setting up my movie library against my NAS. It's scanning the TV shows perfectly fine, but it's ignoring all the 1000+ movies (almost entirely MKV format). This has been working fine directly from Kodi via SMB for years, any ideas? It scans successfully, but finds zero movies. Structure of the folders is /Movies/MovieName (Year)/MovieName.Year.mkv etc. Cheers

Ok, so I'm relatively new to the Amazon FireTV but from everything I've read, it can't playback mkv files without transcoding. Currently, I have the Emby app from Amazon (free version) as well as Kodi with the Emby Addon loaded on my FireTV. I can't seem to get either to play my network stored mkv files (mostly 1:1 rips of BR's stored on an UnRAID server running the Emby Docker). The standalone Emby app shows my library but says I need to contribute when I try to play a file. I can't seem to figure out how I would tell it that I have (even if I did, since there's no paid app in the Amazon App store)? As far as Kodi using the Emby Addon, my library is updating perfectly but I can't get anything to play. Troubleshooting Kodi settings (e.g. downres audio, transcoding etc.) but I'm still in the process of figuring out how to check the Kodi log. It doesn't look complicated but I need to be home with the device. Just looking to get a head start on troubleshooting. Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone, I am trying to set up the Media Browser Server from my mac to connect with my Sony Bravia 40W605. Everything seems to work fine except for MKV files, which is surprising because the Sony is compatible with this media container. I suspect the reason for the issue must be related with the fact that when browsing the media folder from the TV mkv files are shown to be mpeg (this is not happening using PLEX and mkv are played fine). Changing the file extension to avi and the file plays (a quick fix I want to avoid). I've have also noticed that a transcoding log and an active device (TV) is transcoding when trying to play a mkv file. Any help will be appreciated since I like better Media Browser than Plex... Thanks in advance!

My specific issue lies with two devices in my home: Sony BDP-S390 and BDP-S5100. Long story short, there doesn't appear to be an acceptable/reliable way to differentiate these two devices using HTTP Headers or DMR responses. Therefore, they end up using the same DLNA profile in Emby. I have 100% reliable playback on the 5100 with disk backups to mkv done with makemkv (DVD backup, MKV, mpeg2video, AC3). BUT, the 390 refuses to play any mkv I have thrown at it. Any suggestions for getting mkv's to transcode to one device while direct playing them to another? Any possibility of doing direct profile assignment for just such an issue? Perhaps an option within the profile to put an IP, similar to how we can designate a user to always use a profile? Not entirely relevant to the questions above, but I'm attaching my current working profile for the 5100, which the 390 uses as well, with failing mkvs on the 390. Sony Blu-ray Player 5100 test.xml

Danke
