  1. Since the server version was upgraded to Version 4.9.1.80, the default audio and subtitle options changed to “Chinese, Chinese (China), Chinese (Taiwan), Chinese (Hong Kong SAR)”. As a result, Mandarin audio tracks and Chinese subtitles are no longer recognized correctly. I personally believe this is because the internal names of audio tracks and subtitles in our movie videos are not labeled in Chinese. Our video files use English names for audio tracks and subtitles: Mandarin audio tracks are mostly labeled “Chinese,” Simplified Chinese subtitles as “Chinese Simplified” or “Simplified,” while Traditional Chinese subtitles for Taiwan and Hong Kong regions are named “Chinese Traditional” and “Traditional.” Therefore, I recommend reverting to the pre-4.8 design or adding a custom input option to improve the program's automatic recognition of audio tracks and subtitles.
  2. I'm having this same problem!! Any settings which I should look at? I've got a tcl Google tv with a Zebronics 9750 Soundbar, it shows Dolby Atmos for Atmos videos and movies which I have. But when I play the ones with 5.1 or 7.1 surround, although Emby shows it has a 5.1/7.1 surround audio, the soundbar fails to detect it. Why is this? When I play the same file via my laptop connected to the TV via HDMI, the soundbar shows DOLBY SURROUND. What seems to be the issue here?
  3. As the title says!! I've got a tcl Google tv with a Zebronics 9750 Soundbar, which shows Dolby Atmos for Atmos videos and movies when I play them via Emby, USB or via my Laptop through hdmi. But when I play the ones with 5.1 or 7.1 surround, although Emby shows it has a 5.1/7.1 surround audio on the title page, the soundbar fails to detect it. Why is this? When I play the same file via my laptop connected to the TV via HDMI, the soundbar shows DOLBY SURROUND. What seems to be the issue here?
  4. embyserver.txti run a debian 12 server with version 4.8.11.0. my client is a Fire TV Cube (3. Gen); tried both apps "Emby" and "Emby for Fire TV", both had the same issue. i sent a report from "Emby for Fire TV" at 16:34 EDT. the logged in user was emby, the media played Shutter Island. playback was direct, no transcoding. connected via network-cable. media info and playback info attached. server-log attached (there might a "Fringe" playback happening in there aswell). i am not able to reproduce on chrome-web-player. (PC) i am not able to reproduce on Kodi EmbyCon 1.11.37. (Cube) during playback this evening i noticed a buildup of audio-desync over time (audio went faster than video, sound before motion). this was resolvable by either switching the audio tracks (dts-hd <-> ac-3; ac-3 is audio-description so i always "toggled") or skipping back and forth. (skipping introduced a new bug though; after a couple of seconds the video stopped, but audio not. after that i got a couple of frames running from time to time, then again video stopped playing, audio not). did an explicit "test-run" after i finished the movie; around the time of the sent-in report (~16:30 edt). this did not happen playing ac-3, only dts-hd got out of sync. im very sensitive when it comes to lip-audio-desync. i got around 10-15 minutes of playback until i noticed, after that the de-sync felt like growing faster. i cant put it in numbers, but i assume a few 100 ms at that point. "fixed" it and resumed watching. there were no error messages displayed. this is the first time this has happened to me. other medias played without these issues. dts-hd had some playback issues from time to time though. never with Kodi EmbyCon. embyserver.txt
  5. Hello, Thank you for all the great work on the platform. I’d like to suggest a small improvement regarding the Mangas folder, which is currently set to French in order to fetch metadata like titles, summaries, and artwork. Would it be possible to add an option or button to force audio playback in Japanese, even when the folder’s preferred language is French? This would allow users to keep metadata in French while watching content in Japanese with French subtitles (VOSTFR), which is a common use case for anime fans. Thanks in advance for considering this request!
  6. I'm using emby to stream my music library, and I connect to a JBL Extreme via bluetooth (I get the same issue connecting bluetooth in my Honda Odyssey). Everything works the first time I play a song/album/playlist (including all the items in the album/playlist). However when I switch song/album/playlist from one to another it will stop playing through bluetooth. I can see in the emby app the song is playing, my bluetooth still shows connected, the song progress bar moves and the EQ style bars also move, however no sound comes out. To get sound again I have to quit emby (not minimize), disconnect from bluetooth, reconnect to emby and choose another song/album/playlist. Importantly to note, I do not have this issue in my built in android music player (Google Play via S9+), I also don't have this issue with emby through a web browser and non bluetooth source (like PC audio). This makes it difficult to use dynamically, which otherwise is a nearly perfect interface for playing my library. Look forward to any troubleshooting steps.

  8. I did a quick search and didn't see any requests like this, so hopefully this is not a duplicate. The situation that lead to this request was primarily relating to podcasts, but I'm sure there are other situations and use cases for this functionality. Background: I started a new podcast a friend recommended, said podcast is actually a video podcast rather than audio. It seems to work fine and all, but when I go to listen on my mobile device (Android phone) using the Emby app, because it's a video I'm locked into playing it as a video. If I lock my screen it stops the playback, if I minimize the app to go to another app it only stays playing if I keep it in the picture in picture mode with the video still on screen somewhere. For the first situation I can use the lock controls button and just leave my screen running to drain down my battery, but for the second situation it's kinda obnoxious to have that PiP window up. Request Version 1 (in my mind this is more ideal): Enable a playback option (maybe under quality) to force it to an audio only stream through transcoding. Would have the added benefit of saving data usage on the mobile device as well. Request Version 2 (more basic, probably easier to achieve?): Enable a setting or something to where videos can keep playing on the mobile app even if the screen is locked or the app is minimized to the background.

  10. Hello, Certain movies do not show not the audio track's channel layout, like 5.1 etc Where does Emby pull this information from? Is it from the MKV file or how does it determine it? Example that displays channel layout (5.1) and channels total (6): Example that just displays channels total (6) but no channel layout:

    Volume issues

Is there anything about 4.9.0.38 and maybe the previous version that would cause volume issues? Specifically, I must turn up the volume on my AVR an additional 8-13 db from what I did prior to the latest beta version, possibly the prior version. Dialogue is lower volume and somewhat muffled. I verified the audio settings on the Roku Ultra have not changed although I turned off Leveling to compensate for the changes with media played back on emby. No noticeable changes/issues with volume in other streaming apps (Pluto, Max, tubi,) or live TV. Videos in .mkv and .mp4 are both affected. I don’t have .avi files. .264 and .265. Audio format varies - AAC, Dolby (various). Let me know if I’ve missed relevant data points, but maybe it’s a definite, “can’t be emby” so no other info is needed. TIA
  12. Hello, I'm using Emby with a Tivo 4k stream. Everything works ok except any file with a Dolby 5.1 audio track will not play. I've been looking around and can't seem to find a resolution. Is there something in settings I'm missing? Any one else have this issue? Cheers
  13. I have a video file with multiple commentary tracks and subtitles, all of which have descriptive titles that appear in Emby as expected (for instance, a commentary audio track with a title like "Commentary from Director Ron Howard and Producer Brian Grazer"). When I load this file in Handbrake, these descriptive titles also appear as the track names for each of the appropriate audio and subtitle tracks. When I convert this file using Handbrake and then add the newly generated file to my Emby library, none of the descriptive titles appear (to be clear, all of the audio and subtitle tracks ARE present, they just don't have any descriptive titles). The audio and subtitle tracks survive the conversion process, and if I open the converted file in Handbrake, I do see the track titles that I expect. I don't necessarily think that this is an issue related to Emby, I was just curious if anyone else had run into this issue in the past and knew of a solution.
  14. I would suggest to add the possibility to filter the library by languages, i.e. - Allow to filter for the audio and/or subtitle language. Regards Max ( Request taken from a former github issue: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/1782#event-982356301 )

    Audio/video sync adjustment?

Is it possible to set an audio/video sync adjustment / offset / delay in Emby Web? I'm using Emby Web on a laptop that is playing audio through bluetooth speakers and there is a consistent delay in the audio (audio is behind video by about 500ms or so). I would like to compensate for this by setting an offset/delay to the audio or video. Is this possible? I cannot find a setting anywhere.
  16. Hi Guys, Isn't it possible to transcode just the audio track in a stream? (Like with H264) I try on emby but it doesn't work. will it work in the future? For example, if an AV1 file has an audio track with DTS and the device does not support DTS, then H264 will only transcode the audio track. <- AWESOME This doesn't work with HEVC, that's why I hate HEVC and was hoping it works on AV1... But apparently if the audio codec is not supported by the client, AV1 is transcoded to H264, is there no audio coding alone with AV1 either? That would be really bad if you have a lot of DTS and 1 or 2 people with LG TV without DTS license or Browser play Another question: Would you rather choose MKV or MP4 for AV1? I heard MP4 is better for remote streaming. Another question: why is AV1 to AV1 (or HEVC to HEVC) transcoding not supported if the audio format doesn't fit or you want a lower video bitrate? It is always XY to H264 which means a high loss of quality and bandwidth. AV1 / HEVC encode + decode is possible to reduce the bit rate or correct the audio track?

Emby 4.8 - Preferred audio not working

Hi all, I have a 4.8 emby server on docker I have set my preferred audio and unchecked the "Play default audio track regardless of language" , however some media is still picking the default even thought I told emby what audio to choose. I usually prefer Japanese so that anime will stick with subbed, but 4.8 allows multiple to be selected so I have Jap, English, Italian..so why is it picking German for this series. I saw same issue with another show/movie where it constantly picking French since it's the default. Thank you

    Selected/Dynamic Downmixing to Stereo

Hello, there have been many discussions about it, like 6 years ago, but I kind of want to ask something else. When I play recent movies in browser (currently FF) I can see that audio is getting transcoded to AAC 384bit (stereo i guess?). As we all know, regular downmixing to stereo is never a good thing, what I do for selected movies is "nightmode" downmixing beforehand which is kind of... annoying. (See https://superuser.com/questions/852400/properly-downmix-5-1-to-stereo-using-ffmpeg > Downmixing with Robert Collier's Nightmode Dialogue ) The difference is quite big! My question is, is it possible to add an "dynamic stereo" option to Emby playback (mostly browser and mobile might benefit from it) that forces stereo downmix with above option. So lets say, my source file has an ENG 5.1 DTS, I currently only see 5.1 as audio channel, and when I play it, it gets downmixed to stereo in a quite bad way (usually voice is much quieter than anything else) which is always been bad. As soon as the action scenes come, its getting too loud, and when you turn it down, you might not understand conversations anymore. So the new option with add an "on the fly" stereo channel, additionally to the 5.1. which will force emby audio to transcode, but using a specific downmix mode like "Nightmode Diaglogue" or whatever. (Admins might be able to add/select their own "filter" in the server managements transcoding/advanced options or disable this feature ). Example (hardcoded): The new dynamic option instead can be show as italic or "*" ed option, to mark them as something special. This way, I can turn the - already happening - downmixing into a more useful one. I don't need to transcode the audio beforehand, and I save some storage from just adding "Nightmode Stereo" to all movies, while I only need it once in a while. I guess hardware these days is fast enough to allow this ? Cheers
  19. Hello Emby Sorry newbie question. I've been running Emby on my Windows NUC for years and I recently upgraded my TV and Audio. I'm now running a Samsung Q-990B Atmos Sound Bar and run the Samsung App on my Samsung Frame TV (LS03b) to play media off my Windows NUC Server. I'm not sure I have a setup that makes use of my audio (my audio is connected to my TV using Q-Symphony via ARC) I want to ensure my hardware is optimized so I get the best out of my sound bar. I've heard people talking about Nvidia Shield but I'm not sure what that is. I realize my media has to be encoded (and I have a mixture of Atmos, TrueHD media) but can anyone please point me to a simple to understand guide (or give me advice) on the best way to hook this up so I get great sound please and if I need to ditch my Windows NUC for a better server so I get great audio ? Cheers Rob
  20. My collection consists of a lot of anime or media with alternative tracks, like commentary or isolated scores. With a lot of the anime I own it contains both Japanese and English audio. However, usually if the anime comes with both Japanese and English audio it will come with two subtitle tracks. One track translates everything while the other track only translates the Japanese text. (Example below) What I would like to be implemented is a way I can associate a specific audio track to a subtitle track so when I select Japanese or English the correct subtitles will play without me trying to match both tracks whenever I decide to change the language. Also, if it could keep track of what track was selected previously when watching TV shows. I have a few TV shows that have either commentary or an isolated score (contains only the music and no dialog.) It would be nice to watch these episodes in sequence without having to change to back to the correct track. For example, I have Over the Garden Wall on Blu-ray and that show has both a commentary and an isolated score track on every episode. Additionally, I have a few Jackie Chan films that come with English, Cantonese, and Mandarin audio sometimes with multiple mixes and alternate subtitles to go with them. Ways this could be implemented could be to match by audio and subtitle track number, track name, or a manual way to bundle a set of selectable tracks. Also, I'm sure if this is already a feature, but if it is I haven't figured it out. It would be nice to select the default language by show or even episode level. Thank you.
  21. I would like an easy way to see if an episode has audio commentary or not with a checkbox under Metadata settings. When I copy my tv shows, a lot of times, the pilot episodes have commentary audio but it's not easy to keep track of which ones do or don't without manually editing the title itself or looking for the audio button every time an episode plays. I attached an image of what I have in my head. A 'C' symbol or something next to it would work too, something along the lines of that. Let me know what you think!
  22. Hello Emby I need your help please. I just upgraded my home cinema with a Samsung 75” QLED frame TV and a Samsung Q990C 11.1.4 Soundbar. I am running Emby on the TV and the server is a NUC. I wanted to test the audio out and loaded media (below picture shows Dr Strange with TRUEHD audio 7.1. My problem is after around 10 minutes of play I get the “spinning circle” on the movie and I need to stop it and replay it and it works again for another 10 minutes then the spinning circle arrives. I’m not sure if I’ve missed a setting or if this is maxing out my setup - I’m just trying to achieve the best video/audio I can. The movie sounds awesome it just gets the circle and won’t come back until I drop it. I’m hoping someone has an easy fix or setting I can try. thanks. Rob.
  23. Hi team, Bit of a strange issue. I have a series of video's of my kids dance concert that play without audio on Android TV's and Android mobiles but the audio plays fine on my Windows PC and on iPhone. No idea what the problem could be as the audio format, as below, seems pretty standard: Title English AAC stereo (Default) Language English Codec AAC Codec Tagmp4a Profile LC Layout stereo Channels 2 ch Bitrate 253 kbps Sample Rate 48,000 Hz Default Yes For reference, below is the audio format of a video of a different concert where the audio does play, the only difference I see is the bitrate, could that be the problem on Android devices? Title English AAC stereo (Default) Language English Codec AAC Codec Tagmp4a Profile LC Layout stereo Channels 2 ch Bitrate 106 kbps Sample Rate 48,000 Hz Default Yes Here is another that works fine: Title Und AAC stereo (Default) Language und Codec AAC Codec Tagmp4a Profile LC Layout stereo Channels 2 ch Bitrate 191 kbps Sample Rate 44,100 Hz Default Yes
  24. Devices tested on: Shield 2017, Shield 2019 Emby Android TV client version: 2.0.83g Emby Server version: 4.7.9.0 I have a TV show here that has Dolby Digital Plus with Dolby Atmos audio as its audio track. Here's the mediainfo of the audio: Audio ID : 2 Format : E-AC-3 JOC Format/Info : Enhanced AC-3 with Joint Object Coding Commercial name : Dolby Digital Plus with Dolby Atmos Codec ID : A_EAC3 Duration : 46 min 18 s Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 768 kb/s Channel(s) : 6 channels Channel layout : L R C LFE Ls Rs Sampling rate : 48.0 kHz Frame rate : 31.250 FPS (1536 SPF) Compression mode : Lossy Stream size : 254 MiB (20%) Language : English Service kind : Complete Main Default : Yes Forced : No Complexity index : 16 Number of dynamic objects : 15 Bed channel count : 1 channel Bed channel configuration : LFE When trying to attempt to play any of the episodes, I get the "Too many errors, giving up" message. Looking at the server logs (attached below), it seems it's related to the audio. The files play fine in VLC on both Shields, and on Emby Theater on my PC as well. Tried looking here in the forums but didn't find anything related to DD+ Atmos audio. embyserver.txt ffmpeg-remux-40ec91c4-c38d-4669-a013-9973fac5c8ea_1.txt
  25. Hi Emby, Are there any plans to support external streaming services via plug-ins coming to Emby. I'm aware that Plex offers these, and I think it would be a boon for us as well. We've got TuneIn for Internet Radio, which is great. But what about Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify, YouTube Music or Apple Music? Perhaps one of our more accomplished developers could whip something up. Kind regards, Bill
