  1. I have a video file with multiple commentary tracks and subtitles, all of which have descriptive titles that appear in Emby as expected (for instance, a commentary audio track with a title like "Commentary from Director Ron Howard and Producer Brian Grazer"). When I load this file in Handbrake, these descriptive titles also appear as the track names for each of the appropriate audio and subtitle tracks. When I convert this file using Handbrake and then add the newly generated file to my Emby library, none of the descriptive titles appear (to be clear, all of the audio and subtitle tracks ARE present, they just don't have any descriptive titles). The audio and subtitle tracks survive the conversion process, and if I open the converted file in Handbrake, I do see the track titles that I expect. I don't necessarily think that this is an issue related to Emby, I was just curious if anyone else had run into this issue in the past and knew of a solution.

    Comments on transcoding

(I'd somewhat highjacked someone else's thread on transcoding. I'll leave theirs be and start this new one.) I had confusing experiences with Emby's transcoding. I did some intentional tests and better understand what's happening. These aren't bug reports. But I'm looking for more insights on how to best use Emby and ideally be able to live transcode content instead of having duplicate pre-transcoded copies. My system: Emby Premiere (3.2.9.0 during testing) ffmpeg is March 10, 2016 (I think) (installed by Emby into the Emby folders, I believe) Skylake i5 3.2 GHz (6th Gen 6500) Intel Graphics HD 530 Windows 10 Connected by 100Mbps switch to 1Gpbs LAN Testing by streaming to a 4th Gen AppleTV connected to the same 100Mbps switch running tvOS Emby
  3. I am looking for a good MKV software program. I would prefer to convert my Blu-ray movies to lossless, as I am big into surround sound and great picture quality. I wanted to see what others thought and if lossless in necessary? I have seen these programs around and wanted to get some feedback from the community. What MKV software do you recommend? MakeMKV – Seems to be a solid and very popular program. http://makemkv.com/ DVDfab – Option rich, but not cheap. http://www.dvdfab.cn/blu-ray-ripper.htm ByteCopy – Seems to be fast, but I see a ton of fake websites reviewing the product with links back to their site. http://www.pavtube.cn/bytecopy/ HandBrake – Open source and very easy to use. http://handbrake.fr/ MeGUI – Quite a learning curve, but free. http://sourceforge.net/projects/megui/
  4. First off, thank you to everyone who has worked on the XBMB3C plug-in and the assorted skins. I've been following the project since the beginning and am currently using the plug-in on two Windows 7 machines and an Android phone with the Confluence MB skin. I've been very happy with this setup and impressed with how quickly the project has progressed. I know that you just recently added support for transcoding. I was wondering exactly what is checked to determine if transcoding is necessary. I've edited some recorded TV episodes using VideoRedo to cut out commercials and then used Handbrake to convert from mpeg2 to h.264 in an mkv container to save space and for better playback using a Chromecast (with the Android MB app or Plex app) on bedroom TVs. But I've noticed that the XBMB3C clients on my Windows 7 machines use transcoding to play some of the episodes. Episodes that were recorded as 720p mpeg2 video with AC-3 audio and converted to 720p h.264 video with AAC audio play just fine. However, episodes that were recorded at 1080i mpeg2 video with AC-3 audio and converted to 720p h.264 video with AC-3 and AAC audio tracks are forced to use transcoding. These same files play just fine on the same machines using WMC MBC with MPC-HC as an external player. I'm no Handbrake expert, so I might be causing the transcoding with my choice of settings. But really the only difference between the settings for the different types of episodes is that I reduce the 1080i files to 1280 x 720 and use Bob for deinterlacing. I also noticed that you've added "Transcoding" or "Direct Play" to the episode name, but sometimes an episode plays without either of these being added to the name. What does that mean? Thanks.
