Hi Emby won't browse files on the Shield. Ex: when trying to change picture for an movie pushing browse won't do anything. Is there an way to fix this? Petter

Hi, The subtitles on Android TV / Shield appear too high on the image. The lower subtitle is a little above the lower black band of the movie. On the android app, iOS app, Chrome, Windows Theater, they appear in a much more logic position (next to the bottom). How can I change this? Thanks

On Nvidia Shield, I get this error every so often. I go to play a video and it tries to load, I see a still of the video while the circle spins, but then stops with the message "Too many errors, giving up". Restarting the Emby app doesn't resolve it, but restarting the Shield does which I find strange. Any ideas? There are several methods to sideload an app on an Android TV device such as the nVidia Shield including by usb, smart phone, etc. The method described below uses smb3 from a Windows 11 client. Different Android devices and connecting clients may differ in steps The nVidia Shield uses smb3 as of SE8. If your Shield isn't upgraded to at least SE8 you should do so now. 1. Enable smb3 connections on nVidia Shield Go to Settings --- Device --- Storage Click and enable "Transfer files over local network" Note the Username and Password 2. Enable SMB3 on Windows client Windows 11 comes with smb3 already enabled. Older versions of Windows and other clients may require you to enable smb. 3. Download apk from website Both the standard Android (arm7 Shield, arm8 Shield pro) and Android TV apps work on the Shield. You can choose one or install both if you like. https://emby.media/download.html 4. Problem: Since the latest Emby Server Windows 10 update a few days ago, I have on all my Nvidia Shield devices no user selection screen anymore. The only options are "manual", "connect" or "server change". So every user have to do a manual login with password, altough the user account are set that no password is required on local network. My setup: Local network with a Windows 10 server running Emby Server (4.6.6.0). Four Nvidia Shields in the same network connected to this server, having the Emby Anroid TV app installed (2.0.48g registered). User setup and settings: Multiple users that in the local network are visible users (visible tiles on user selection screen) and no password is required to access the Emby server in the local network. Behaviour before the latest Server update: Started the Emby app on Shield and user selection screen showed up, the user selected his user tile and got immediate access to the libraries (no password required). What I have tried to fix:: - Deinstalled Emby Android TV app on each Shield, reinstalled, unfortunately issue remains - Checked if this error can be replicated by accessing the server by a browser. Here it does work as it should, it shows a user selection screen with tiles you click on one and you get immediate access. That means this issue could be App specific, however Android App hasn't been updated since weeks and the only update that happened the last few days has been the Server update which and the timing matches with the first appearance of my issue. Hi, And thanks for this software. Right now I'm running emby server (premiere) on synology app (NAS is a 918+) ; client is installed on a first generation nvidia shield . All is connected via ethernet. Sometimes (rarely to be frank, very rarely) I got stuttering, mainly x or h265 files. I get two months ago a second hand elitedesk G4 mini (UHD Graphics 630) and installed linux (ubuntu 20.04 server) to run some valheim, minecraft and conan exiles servers via docker. And I wonder if using an emby container on this linux computer would improve performances. CPU is way better in the G4 than in the NAS. RAM is the same, 32Go. I have several questions, having close to none tech skill. 1- In my current setup (syno server to shield), which is "decoding" the stream ? NAS is decoding, and shield just have to display ? Shield is decoding, NAS being just providing the files for the shield to decode ? 2- In my current setup, is there some tips I should use to improve streaming ? 3- In my current setup, should I check somewhere if some sort of hardware acceleration is activated ? Hi I am using a combination of Plex and Emby to record from my Homerun Duo onto my PC. All the files record as TS files, which is what I want as the conversion to an MP4 of interlaced material is horrible. TS files can retain both progressive streams and interlaced streams and a combination, so I want to stick with TS. I've just invested in a Shield TV and was going to make a choice between Emby and Plex as I don't want to keep paying for both. My issue is, all TS files layed on the Shield in Emby end up transcoding (Direct Play error). This ends up slower, but also converts them and deinterlaces them which I don't want. Old 90s shows which I record a lot of do not look good. It doesn't affect newer progressive shows so much. The same files on Plex alwats play directly and seek really quickly. Just for comparison, I tried the Emby and Plex apps on my Samsung TV and they both use direct play for these files, it just seems that it's Emby on the Shield that doesn't. After investing £150 on a Shield I want to be using it and the experience geneanrally is quicker than using the apps on my TV. I know that there has been talk in the past about problems with seeking on TS files in Emby, but if Plex can do it and the Samsung TV Emby app can do it, why can't the Shield TV do it? I'm leaning towards keeping Plex at the momnent which is a shame as there are many parts to Emby that I prefer.

Anyone here with a 2019 Shield connected to a Dolby Vision capable TV that works? I have just bought a 2019 Shield Pro, but when I enable the Dolby Vision HDR mode, I lose the picture on my LG C7 TV. The only way I have worked out how to get the picture back, is to Factory Reset the Shield, although I have since found there may be another way that might work. This is not an Emby issue, just asking for any input. Thanks.

I have recently started ripping my UHD Blu-rays for play back in Emby, and discovered issues with subtitle transcoding. In the past, my 1080p Blu-ray rips have been in HEVC, whatever the main audio track is, as well as only forced/foreign subtitle tracks if there are any. Normally I would extract the PGS (.sup file) and convert to VobSub using BDSup2Sub and that would work fine. This has been a habit that started back when Blu-ray subs weren't supported by the codecs on my old HTPC way back when, but handled DVD subs (VobSub) fine. The first 4K disc I have ripped that requires a forced subtitle track is Avengers: Infinity War for just one line of dialogue in the whole movie. I have tested playing this back using PGS, VobSub and also SRT. PGS and SRT seem to be OK and everything direct plays, however the VobSub version wants to transcode everything just to burn that single line of text onto the video. The HD audio also gets transcoded back to Dolby Digital. To test this further, I went back and tried some 1080p Blu-rays I had ripped previously with VobSub subtitle tracks and found that they too are being transcoded. My main benchmark for testing subtitle playback has been my rip of Avatar which used to play fine, but now the subtitles are being burnt in and the audio is also not coming through as DTS-HD as it should. VobSub maintains the font style and colour from the PGS subs on movies such as this that would be lost if I used SRT. My Emby server doesn't have the processor power for 4K transcoding, so it becomes unwatchable, but is fine with 1080p rips. So for future rips, I will be happy to use PGS as long as it continues to work properly. However, I would definitely prefer to avoid transcoding my older ones with VobSub subtitles so that the audio can be kept in the original HD format. I especially don't want to have to re-mux all of my older movies with different subtitles if it can be avoided either. Current setup consists of Emby app running on an Nvidia Shield connected via HDMI to a Pioneer receiver (supports HDMI 1.4 and HD audio formats) then to a 4K Sony TV.

Hello, I am using Emby on an Nvidia Shield (server and client) with my media on an external hard drive attached via usb. I setup the libraries when I had access to internet and downloaded all the meta data and art, everything working great. I was hoping to use it as an offline media server at a remote cabin with no internet or cell phone access occasionally. I saw this forum thread and bought the "unlock" they mention I believe (can't seem to find confirmation in the app that it was purchased but I was charged $5) but there isn't much information after that point. I have not purchased the Premiere subscription as I mostly just plan to use directly on the device. Now I didn't test this before I left so was a bit disappointed when it didn't work when I got there but I figured I'd inquire about more information. Let's start by confirming it is possible for Emby client to access Emby server without internet? Do I still need to have a wifi network or can it just access it since the server is running on the same device as the client and the network couldn't connect to the internet anyway? Any suggestions/tips to get this working would be appreciated. Thanks.

When playing playing a movie though the Shield TV, it stopped twice, needing me to return to the main Shield menu and re-select Emby. When i looked at the logs I could see that it was transcoding the DTS audio, but could not see why. The same file pays without any transcoding though Plex. I have tried another movie with DTS audio (and a higher bitrate) and it played normally The Shield is output through a Yamaha YSP-2700 which supports DTS. I have attached the main Server log and the remux logs. My experience of the Emby app on Shield is that is any transcoding (even just audio) takes place, there is a tendency for the playback to stop unexpectedly. I can see no evidence of network congestion or heavy CPU usage on the media server (windows 10, i7-3770, 32 GB ram). After getting prompted to update in the web app, I went and downloaded 4.4.1.0 and did so and now the server won't stay active, as soon as I close out of the Emby Server App, and try and access it either through the web app or the player on the Shield it isn't there. When I go back to the Server app again and open it, it starts up suggesting it had crashed. I've rebooted the Shield etc and still the same behaviour. Was just wondering if anyone else was having an issue with this update or whether is it just something local to me. I've kept the previous installer so I could try rolling back?

Hi All, The recent upgrade to 4.3.3 states "Performance improvement to TV guide', But I am not seeing anything on my setup. My setup is Andriod TV on an Nvidia Shield, connecting directly to a Synology NAS via managed hub on the same VLAN. The NAS runs the Emby Server which also connects to a HD Homerun Quattro, also on the same hub and VLAN. My issue is with scrolling through the TV guide If you scroll through the guide with the BBC channel highlighted, I can scroll forward through programmes for weeks, no problem. But if if I select another channel to be highlighted such as ITV2+1, it will scroll up to 10pm that day then screw up the whole guide with "<No programme Data Available>". Yet if I use the calendar to select a future date, all works fine. So scrolling on certain channels is broken for me Any ideas ?

Hi everyone, I've been running into a few issues on the Emby Server that is running off of my Nvidia Shield that I finally have time to look further into and would love any guidance you can give. I'll include images and logs of the errors I'm getting below. Setup Server:Nvidia Shield (Shield is directly connected to router with ethernet cable) Media is stored on harddrives directly connected to Nvidia Shield Client:LG C8 TV running Emby App (TV is directly connected to router with ethernet cable) - This is the only client Problem #1: Images don't load Although the media are stored on harddrives, I have the cache, logs, metadata, and transcoding temporary files all stored directly on the Nvidia Shield. My idea here was to reduce image load times when searching media content. However after a few searching I start noticing some images don't start loading anymore (Image_1 and Image_2). Similar to what you see in the attachments, it's only a select few images, but the majority still loads. In this case for Gemini Man, only the majority of the cast and crew loaded, not any of the images related to the film itself. This however will progressively get worse to the point where none of the images will load (Image_3). In this case with Gremlins, only the text components load with no images. This has consistently occurred over the past few months. Problem #2: Server shuts down with "light" use from a single user I believe this issue is related to the first problem, since Problem #1 always occurs prior to Problem #2 occurring. In this situation (where I documented it), after the images didn't load for Gremlins, I did select "Play", and the film did not start. When I tried to back up into the movies (Image_4) and start sections (Image_5), either the loading circle kept spinning or was completely blank. At this point when I look at the Nvidia Shield, I see the server has automatically shut off (Image_6). If I turn it back on and do something similar (e.g., select/switch between media, etc.) it will consistently shut off. This is definitely helpful when it comes to troubleshooting. I have noticed this has progressively gotten worse. In the past, this would occur about once a week, but now it occurs at least once a day. Any insight would be highly appreciated! The Shield was great as a server when I first set it an year ago, but has consistently become a larger issue over time. Playback still worked fine but ATV Stats still show "Video Bitrate Exceeds Limit" Not sure why - Bug? Hello: I have the Emby app on my Samsung Android phone. The app connects perfectly to the Emby server (premiere) on my desktop computer and shows play perfectly on my phone. When I try to cast to the Nvidia Shield Pro, after hitting the cast icon, the Shield shows up on the list to cast to , but when I hit the Shield on the list to cast to, the TV says ready to cast, but the phone goes black. I have tried restarting the phone and uninstalling/installing the app with no success. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hallo Zusammen, ich will mal versuchen, das Problem auf die bloßen Fakten zu reduzieren: Auf einem externen Server laufen ein PMS und Emby, Emby erst seit heute, ich kenne mich damit also noch nicht wirklich aus und bitte entsprechend um Nachsicht :smile. Clients für den Test sind eine Shield und ein Web-Browser. Der Content ist so, dass ihn die Shield und der Browser über den PMS als Direct Stream wiedergeben können, das sieht dann in etwa so aus: Das gleiche File an gleicher Stelle mit Emby wiedergegeben sieht dann so aus: Ich habe sowohl im Browser als auf dem Shield-Client die gefundenen Einstellungen so angepasst, dass alle Werte, die sich auf Bandbreite beziehen auf dem Maximalwert anstatt auf Auto stehen, mehr habe ich aber erst mal nicht ifnden können, gerade die Setings auf der Shield wirken eher spartanisch. Hat jemand einen Tipp für mich, wo man hier ansetzen kann?

I just got a notification that there was an update for the server on my Shield, 4.4 I believe. Downloaded it through Chrome but after the 'staging app' screen when I click Install I immediately get an 'App not Installed' message. Tried downloading it to various places, internal drive, connected drive but exactly the same behaviour. I then tried the beta as well, but again exactly the same thing. I'm not really sure what else I can try other than uninstall the current version, which is 4.3.1.0 but obviously that's a last resort as it's going to mean setting everything up again and will take a long time.. Has anyone else had a similar issue or have a fix? Maybe I'm being stupid? I should say I'm on the Hotfix path on the Shield 8.0.2 as I was losing HDMI sync constantly, which the hotfix seems to have sorted, but I'm not sure whether this would make any difference?

Hey everyone, has anyone else had trouble with the emby app crashing while playing 4K content on the non-pro 2019 Shield? I've only recently gotten a 4K TV, so the problem is new (otherwise the shield has been working great with 1080p content). My normal setup is: Emby server running an i5-5250U processor with 16GB of RAM (Windows 8.1), connected with a CAT5E cable directly to my TP-Link AC4000 Router. NVidia Shield connected directly to the router with a CAT5E and to my AVR (Sony STR-DH790) with an HDMI 2.1 cable. AVR connected to my TV (Sony X900F) with an HDMI 2.1 cable. I thought my receiver may be the culprit so I've also tried connecting the TV directly with the Shield and it still crashes playing 4K content. It's not an immediate crash, it will play about 10-15 minutes (for multiple movies) and then start to stutter and eventually crash back to the home screen. If I happen to navigate (press the back or home button on the remote) while the movie is playing (during the 10 minutes window) the reaction is very slow, sometimes taking up to 15 seconds to respond and sometimes it causes Emby to crash as well. I'm at a loss of what could be wrong. The only idea that's come to mind is that maybe I'd be better off with the Shield Pro as it has more memory and (as I just found out) supports 64 bit apps. I don't use it for gaming which is why I bought the tube version and apparently there is no stock of the pro version to try. Has anyone else run into this problem or have any suggestions? I really like the Shield as it limits my transcoding but I can't for the life of me figure out why I can't play 4K content reliably. Thanks. Latest version (1.7.78g) on Android TV (NVidia Shield). In a "Music Videos" library, I have the metadata set for each video under Title, Artists, Album, and Year. In the non-folder view, each video is listed, but only Title and Year appear. This makes it so that you cannot see the Artist on the video until you detail into it. I think it makes much more sense to show Title and Artist instead of Title and Year on the Android TV view. Attaching screenshot showing comparison of Android TV view vs web view. Thanks.

Ich habe mit Emby auf Nvidia Shield folgendes Problem: In gewissen Serien, konkret: Orange is the new black S03, die zwei Tonspuren haben (Deutsch und Englisch), wird einfach immer nur die Englische Tonspur abgespielt. Ich kann zwar auf Deutsch umstellen, aber es ändert an der Tonausgabe nichts. Ist nur auf Emby auf der Shield so. Bei Emby auf dem PC geht alles wunderprächtig. Hinweis: Spiele ich die Serie über Kodi ab, geht es auch bestens. Hat jemand Rat?

Hello everyone I got recently a Shield Pro which should my LibreELEC to replace. And my plan is to switch directly to the Emby App instead of using Emby for Kodi. But now I have discovered three things, that triggers a unwanted transcoding: Subtitles in the "DVDSUB" format, m2ts container and DD+ 7.1 audio tracks (is supported by the speakers). On Emby for Kodi its all fine (on the Shield). So can I do something against these issues in the Emby App? Thanks.

Hi, I am planning on upgrading from my TV's (Sony) internal Emby app to a NVidia Shield powered streaming. Has anyone bought the TV model and using it for the Emby app? I do not need to run the server in Shield nor I am not planning on playing any games etc. with the device. So, would the TV -version be enough for the Emby app or are the extra 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage needed? Any info appreciated!
