  3. So I had an issue last night with IPTV channels all going offline. I suspect it was related to my disk getting full. I resolved that by deleting some media to free up space but then I discovered that all the channel mapping to guide sources had been lost. I recovered from a backup and thought it was resolved as I had guide data back but I've discovered that that I have guide data but the channels are not mapped to the guide data source or guide data channel. When I try to relink the channel to a data source I can select the guide data source in from the dropdown menu but then the dropdown to add the guide data channel is completely empty so I can't select the channel data to link it as shown below. I've tried added new guide data sources and if it's one I've not used previously I can see the guide data channels but if I've used it already, even if I delete the guide data source completely it still comes up blank like above. I've also tried deleting them all and then restoring from a backup but its the same. I have some channels pulling from an xmltv source and that's all working fine. Any thoughts on how to resolve it? I am on version 4.8.8.0 is it worth trying to update to 4.8.10.0 and seeing if that resolves it? Can I then still restore from the backup made in the previous version? As I mentioned when I restore from a backup I do get guide data on all the channels but as soon as it tries to update the guide data during the next scheduled task it all disappears as the sources/channels are not mapped correctly.
  4. Hi everyone, I need some help with setting up an Emby Docker container on my Raspberry Pi 4 running Rocky Linux 9. Extreme ram (120gigs) and swap usage

System Configuration: Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2620 v4 @ 2.10GHz RAM: 128 GB Machine Type: Rack Mount Chassis Operating System: Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS Storage: HP P440, HP P840ar, HP LOGICAL VOLUME (multiple disks) Display Resolution: 1024x768 pixels Issue: Recently, I’ve noticed that the RAM and swap usage on my Emby server has suddenly spiked significantly. Previously, the RAM usage never exceeded 20-30 GB, though the swap would occasionally fill up. However, now the RAM usage quickly goes through the roof within a few minutes of starting the server, even after multiple reboots. Steps Taken: Rebooted the server multiple times. Problem: Despite the reboots, the RAM usage continues to escalate rapidly. I have attached the relevant logs. Request: Can anyone help me identify what might be causing this issue? Is there something wrong on my end, or is there a fix available for this problem? embyserver.txt
  7. Hi People, I've just got into Emby and the more I use it the more I love it. I'm trying to get the folder permissions right once and for all as at the moment iàm having to run a chmod 770 on the media directory every time I add media which is not handy. I would just like all the contents to inherit the file permissions of the main directory. Now i know this may be more of a LInux OS question but I post it here as I want to make sure Emby server is happy with this level of settings. At the moment I have a Movies folder that belongs to "emby" group and "antonio" (a normal unix user that is the admin user of the emby server) is member of that group. I set the sticky bit on te "Movies" folder with: chmod g+s Movies so that I have: drwxrwsr--+ 21 antonio emby 4096 nov 10 11:50 Movies You'll see that I have access control set on this folder which I did with the following two commands: setfacl -d -m g::rwx /<directory> //set group to rwx default setfacl -d -m o::r /<directory> //set other After doing this, I created a folder in the MOvies directory via terminal mkdir Baaria (2009) So that: drwx--S---+ 2 antonio emby 4096 nov 10 11:51 Baaria (2009) and the file inside this folder: -rw------- 1 antonio antonio 2098558137 apr 15 2015 Baaria (2009).m4v When I run the getfacl command on the Movies folder, I get: # file: Movies/ # owner: antonio # group: emby # flags: -s- user::rwx group::rwx other::r-- default:user::rwx default:group::rwx default:other::r-- EMBY doesn't seem to be happy with the newly created folder permissions (see below) not quite sure why though. I'm sure this is to do with my ignorance on the unix file system management and the use of the setfacl command or maybe I'm just overcomplicating things. Any suggestions? 10. Hello everyone, first of all I am new here and also in Emby, you will see me actively here often asking questions. I have a question, I have a proxmox server and inside 2 LXC one of jellyfin which is the one I currently use and another that I created a while ago to test Emby, I really want to see how it is because I have been told it is more advanced than Jellyfin and has more features and better clients, my doubt to all this is that my server has an intel i5 12500 with an iGPU UHD 770, currently I have by passthrough the 770 in the LXC of jellyfin and transcoding works perfectly and makes use of it if necessary, my question here is: In Emby will it also work the same way? or do I need a premium version? PD: this is how I have it configured in both Jellyfin and Emby, that's why I ask if I need the premium version to transcode or not.
  11. I wanted to share my fail2ban configuration for people that want to protect against a brute force attack. Fail2ban is a piece of software that will monitor log files for a authentication failures then ban the source ip address after so many attempts to protect against a brute force attack. I searched around for an tutorial or how to on how to implement this for emby and came up short, so I decided to give it a try and got it to work without much trouble at all. I wouldn't consider myself an expert and this is my first how to I have every written so if I made a mistake or I'm wrong let me know, and use my instructions at your own risk. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK THIS PROBABLY WILL NOT WORK IF YOU ARE USING EMBY CONNECT I'm not using emby connect because I think it has some security problems listed here https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/80497-log-out-security-hole/ You need to install fail2ban For my setup with ubuntu 18.10 I used, (should be the same for debian but I haven't tested) sudo apt install fail2ban To get fail2ban working with emby there are two parts, filter and jail, they both have their directories (jail.d) (filter.d) in /etc/fail2ban/ cpeng@g5500:~$ cd /etc/fail2ban/ cpeng@g5500:/etc/fail2ban$ ls action.d fail2ban.conf fail2ban.d filter.d jail.conf jail.d paths-arch.conf paths-common.conf paths-debian.conf paths-opensuse.conf The jail controls what happens with an authentication error and the filter tells how to read the log to find the error. Create a filter: cpeng@g5500:/etc/fail2ban$ sudo nano filter.d/emby.conf /etc/fail2ban/filter.d/emby.conf # Fail2Ban for emby # # [Definition] failregex = AUTH-ERROR: <HOST> - Invalid user or password entered ignoreregex = EDIT: New failregex proposed (below) by @@nayr to catch 401 errors and attempts to find valid user names [Definition] failregex = AUTH-ERROR: <HOST> - Invalid user HTTP Response 401 to <HOST>. The failregex tells what the log line will have in it that designates a fail and "<HOST>" designated the actual ip address. That error looked like this: 2019-12-24 11:12:00.326 Warn HttpServer: AUTH-ERROR: 10.9.162.31 - Invalid user or password entered. So I assumed that AUTH-ERROR will be unique to login errors which is why I started the filter with that. Next you have to create the jail in cpeng@g5500:/etc/fail2ban$ sudo nano jail.d/emby.local /etc/fail2ban/jail.d/emby.local [emby] enabled = true filter = emby logpath = /var/lib/emby/logs/embyserver.txt port = 80,443 I use a reverse proxy that uses ports 80,443, but if you aren't doing that then you want to block the default ports 8096,8920 The logpath may vary from distribution, you can find yours in your dashboard under paths. There are other options that you can add, my default ban time was 10 minutes and max number of retries was 5 which is default which seemed fine to me. The last thing you need to do is reload fail2ban so it re reads the files. sudo systemctl reload fail2ban Then test by entering the wrong password into emby and confirm that it blocks you. Check out the fail2ban.log at /var/log/fail2ban.log tail /var/log/fail2ban.log For testing this command might also come in handy: sudo fail2ban-client unban --all Hope this is helpful. P.S. I recently switched from plex to emby for the dvr service and so far I have been very impressed and happy with how it works. I got tired of all the bugs with plex, that would never get fixed, instead we got new "features" and new interfaces. The icing on the cake is how responsiveness the developers are on these forums.
  12. I was trying the camera upload feature in my android phone. When I enabled it for the first time on phone A, it created 6 libraries that points to /var/lib/emby/data/camerauploads. Huh, weird. So I deleted the remaining 5 libraries. It successfully deleted all of them. Then later that day, I also enabled the camera upload feature on my phone B. It created the same exact six camera upload library again, all pointing to the same path as before. When I am trying to delete all those 6 libraries, it just doesn't respond. So I tried deleting data/camerauploads folder, but it still won't delete. When I checked the log, it logs the delete command but then nothing after that. No error, no info. Nothing related to library deletion. I also checked the root/default folder, there's no camera upload folders there. This weird behavior is also causing full cpu load on my setup on every library scan that forced me to restart emby server to restore it's functionality. embyserver.txt
  13. Since the latest update we have been unable to stream live OTA channels to our ROKU devices. The only change has been the update to EMBY. Our OTA is streamed through a HDHomerun Extend which has worked fine for years. The Roku simply shows the spinner as if the show were starting then doesn't actually start. The spinner continues to look as though it were buffering or something, stops for a second or two and you think the show is about to start but then it starts spinning again and never starts. To complicate matters the same thing is happening when I try to play a Live TV stream over the network to another PC in the house which I've never had a problem with. It fails outright on the pc the spinner doesn't keep starting over it just fails and kicks me out to the guide. Again to complicate things further when I try to stream to my iphone it plays just fine. This happens both through the house network and remote network. So something is preventing playback just to the Roku and PC devices in the house network. I am running the server on a linux box, headless. I only get on it when I have to do an update. I run Arch linux, so I will need to make sure there hasn't been some other update that broke anything on the system but I've never had a problem with this since converting to Arch on my server in roughly five or so years so I don't think I will find any issues there but I will verify that when I get the chance. The pc I am trying to view live tv on is also a linux machine running Arch. I normally maintain my server setup from this other unit and have no issues but since the last update live tv is now dead... The thing is if there were something strange going on with permissions or something then I would think I couldn't stream to the iphone as well as the pc's and ROKU's but that isn't the case. So I believe the server PC is operating fine and there is a change to the EMBY server app that is causing the problem... Recorded TV and the movie library stream fine. This is only happening with Live TV... I have attached the logs. The last four attempts at play back are a failed playback to a ROKU device, failed playback to PC, successful playback to iphone both local network and remote. I hope I get feedback as it stopped entirely on another thread I had interjected myself into as I am not the only one with playback issues on ROKU since the new update... Honestly, if it were just me I wouldn't know it wasn't streaming live tv I almost never watch it. However, my wife watches it daily, DAILY. In the morning getting ready for work. In the evenings for local news, occasionally other shows she likes available OTA. So you can imagine how often I am being asked if there is any progress on this... Please help if you can. embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-27ff977d-0d5c-48ce-ac6c-b2b5fe0d20d0_1.txt
  14. Hi, I'm noticing that whenever I set quality to auto, it direct plays but the video stutters every 2 seconds. If i manually set the bit rate to match the video bit rate it works smoothly.. but setting it to auto causes it lag or buffer every 2 seconds on certain videos. If i seek then it struggles to play it. Sometimes auto picks up the wrong quality setting entirely like choosing 720p 4Mbps for a 10Mbps bitrate.. I'm not sure what's wrong with my config. Any help would be appreciated. I'm using emby server 4.8.10 and I have an NVIDIA GPU. I'm attaching logs for reference when this happens.. embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-c32e80a8-e89c-448a-b8e3-23d0dffdf933_1.txt

seeking forward or backward renders stream unplayable - 4.8.1.0

I'm running emby server on a linux kubernetes cluster with 2 NVIDIA GPUs. On any device (Fire stick, ipad, phone or browser) for several videos if i seek the stream forward or backward even by a little bit, the video starts stuttering every 2 seconds. There's no recovery from that. Even if i exit the app and come back and try to resume the lag remains. Then I tried fiddling with the quality settings - I don't need to reduce to the point of transcoding. I just kept swapping between Auto and 1080p - 10Mbps. The video is a 1080p H264 and bitrate of 8mbps. Finally after multiple tries it continues playing normally at 1080p - 10Mbps still as a Direct play. The server dashboard says the stream is direct play throughout. I'm attaching some logs. The logs are while playing on the ipad. If you would like me to get you logs for some other device, let me know and i would be more than happy to pull them. ffmpeg-remux-seek-recov.txt embyserver-seek-recov.txt ffmpeg-remux-seek.txt embyserver-seek.txt

    Music library nfo's question

I continue to experience the same problem with Music Library: Sort Title in nfo file is being overwritten by Emby. Example, this album with "...Meets the Saxophone Masters" as title, for which I changed SORTTITLE to "Meets the Saxophone Masters" (removing the starting ellipses). See images below: edited nfo has different Title and Sort Title, as do source files as viewed ion MP3Tag. Per @Luke's new guidance, I went into Folder view, did both Scan Files and Refresh Metadata on that folder and all its contents, but you can see in last image that nfo has been reverted to old, incorrect Sort Title. Log file is also attached. Why is Emby still not respecting either existing nfo nor embedded metadata? embyserver.txt

  19. Hello, I am seeking assistance with a perplexing issue on my media server, which involves unexpected swap usage and performance degradation under heavy load, despite having a large amount of available RAM. Server Specifications: RAM: 126GB Swap: 16GB CPU: 32-core (No GPU) Issue Description: While running transcoding operations on Emby, the server’s RAM usage increases to only about 8-10GB, far less than the total available. Strangely, rather than utilizing the abundant free RAM, the system starts to consume swap space. The vm.swappiness is set to 10 to minimize swapping, yet this issue persists. When the swap usage nears its full capacity of 16GB, I notice that the Emby web interface begins to stutter and the overall performance of the server diminishes. This suggests that the server is resorting to disk I/O for swap file usage, which is significantly slower than accessing physical RAM, causing these performance issues. Troubleshooting Performed: Reviewed system configurations for any potential memory usage limits. Monitored system with htop, confirming that CPU cores are maxed out, but RAM is not fully utilized. Ensured all system software and kernel are up to date. I am puzzled as to why the system would favor swap space over RAM when there is plenty of memory available. Additionally, the consequential performance hit when the swap is full is impacting the usability of the Emby service. Could there be a misconfiguration or a specific application behavior that is causing this? I would greatly appreciate any insights or recommendations on how to resolve this issue and ensure that RAM is fully utilized before swap space is touched, thus avoiding the performance pitfalls of a full swap situation. Thank you for your time and help. Logs(Giving dropbox link since its more than the limit): Log File (Dropbox)
  20. Just as the title suggests. I have Emby Theater (Flatpak) running on Fedora Kinoite 38, and my laptop locks its screen during video playback on it. It is rare that I do not also do some work while watching a video on my laptop, which is why I discovered it so late, but if I do not touch the touchpad or the keyboard for the amount of time I have set for the screen to be locked while video is playing on Emby Theater, my laptop locks itself.

Add a button maintenance on login page

I have a lot of people using my emby (10 on average). When I do maintenance on it, it's no longer active. I'd like to add a button on the login page so that people who use my Emby know why it's not working. Is this possible? On the application?
  22. Hi, Recently I bought a premium Emby subscription on decided to try hardware transcoding, after setting it up I give it a go but sadly some files doesn't start playing at all and the ones who do start only plays for about 10 seconds afterwards they stop. I tried to lower the quality and that way they play normally, but I would like to avoid that and always use the highest quality possible. I never had this issue before, without HW transcoding. I have Emby running on a docker container using the official image, the latest version. I can provide more information about the Docker setup if needed.p The server where Docker is running has a i7-10710U Processor, 16 gb of ram and a 500 gb SSD. Here's the server and ffmpeg log. Please let me know what other information I can provide! Thanks! embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-62d0979d-8c11-43f4-bb36-4ed28f11f286_1.txt
  23. Hello everyone ! Seeing a lot of people want to add Youtube Live channels in their IPTV section, and knowing you can't simply add a Youtube Live stream link in your .m3u because YTLive links change every 3 to 6h (unless you want to edit your playlist and refresh Emby everytime, which would be a nightmare), this is a (quiet long) tutorial to show you how to make Youtube Live (but also Twitch or Dailymotion) streams work like a real TV channel in Emby. I based this how to on my own knwoledge (basically none in Linux, a lot of trial and error), and the tutorial by Carlos Gomes, available here : https://cgomesu.com/blog/Tvhlink/ All the tutorial is setup on a Windows 10 machine. You will need : - a Windows 10 (build 19041 and higher) or Windows 11 machine - Windows subsystem for Linux (can be version 1) - WSL to make short - a Linux distribution of your choice (preferably Debian or Ubuntu) - TVHeadend - Streamink - the TVHeadend plugin from the Emby plugin store 1) Install Windows subsystem for Linux. For Windows 10 below build 19041 : Open Powershell in admin mode, copy/past these commands : dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:Microsoft-Windows-Subsystem-Linux /all /norestart dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:VirtualMachinePlatform /all /norestart The Linux distributions available are : Ubuntu, Debian, kali-linux, Ubuntu-18.04, Ubuntu-20.04, Ubuntu-22.04, OracleLinux_8_5, OracleLinux_7_9, SUSE-Linux-Enterprise-Server-15-SP4, openSUSE-Leap-15.4 , or openSUSE-Tumbleweed. Then, still in the Powershell, download your distribution of your choice : To install Ubuntu 22.04 : curl.exe -L -o ubuntu.appx https://aka.ms/wslubuntu2204 For Debian : curl.exe -L -o debian.appx https://aka.ms/wsl-debian-gnulinux Then restart the computer. Optional : If you want to install WSL 2, check this link by Microsoft : https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install-manual#step-4---download-the-linux-kernel-update-package For Windows 10 build 19041 and higher : In the Command Prompt (or in Windows Terminal, available in the Windows Store) in admin mode, with WSL 2 already installed : (without the < > ) wsl --install -d <Distribution Name> For Ubuntu 22.04 : wsl --install -d Ubuntu-22.04 or, for Debian : wsl --install -d Debian Then restart the computer. 2) Install TVHeadend Go to the download page : https://tvheadend.org/projects/tvheadend/wiki/AptRepositories For Ubuntu, the easy way is to install via PPA : sudo apt-add-repository ppa:mamarley/tvheadend-git sudo apt update sudo apt install tvheadend For Debian, because the distribution can't handle PPA, to have to do this : curl -1sLf \ 'https://dl.cloudsmith.io/public/tvheadend/tvheadend/setup.deb.sh' \ | sudo -E bash Then after, the usual : sudo apt update sudo apt install tvheadend Once TVHeadend, and all its dependancies, donwloaded and installed, the install wizard will automatically be launched. You just have to create an admin ID and a password, leave the rest by default. 3) Install Streamlink ! For Debian, make sure you have backports repositories installed, otherwise you will get an older version of Streamlink and cause Python errors in TVHeadend ! echo "deb http://deb.debian.org/debian bullseye-backports main" | sudo tee "/etc/apt/sources.list.d/streamlink.list" sudo apt update sudo apt -t bullseye-backports install streamlink 4) Start the TVHeadend server : sudo tvheadend Wait a little, untill you see this line in blue (of course, the number version could vary with future update) : [ NOTICE] START: HTS Tvheadend version 4.3-2106~g9e1eb89be started Go to the webserver page of TVHeadend : http://localhost:9981/ Warning ! If after entered your admin ID, the page show you a 403 Forbidden error, type : sudo tvheadend -C It will show you the post install wizard to configure admin ID's (keep the same as the install) and a client ID (you can just keep the same ID as the admin account). Now : a) set up TVHeadend -> https://cgomesu.com/blog/Tvhlink/#basic-configuration b) create an automatically updated .m3u with Youtube Live/Twitch ... -> https://cgomesu.com/blog/Tvhlink/#automatic-network-of-livestream-channels If you create your .m3u from Windows (with Notepad ++ for exemple), I strongly suggest you to save it in your Linux home folder. Once done, you need to modify the permission of your .m3u, otherwise TVHeadend won't have the permission to handle it. To do so : cd path/of/your/playlist/ chmod +rwx yourplaylist.m3u Basically, your .m3u shoud look like this : #EXTM3U #EXTINF:-1 tvg-id="ChannelID.ShortCountryCode" tvg-country="ShortCountryCode",Name of the channel pipe:///usr/bin/env streamlink --stdout --default-stream best --url https://www.youtube.com/user/ChannelName/live 5) Install the TVHeadend plugin You can find it in the Emby plugin store, in the Live TV category. Once installed, restart your Emby server. Then, in the admin pannel, in the Live TV section : Add a new TV source -> select TVHeadend If you installed the TVHeadend server on the same computer of the Emby server, change the Tvheadend Server Web Interface URL with : http://127.0.0.1:9981 instead of http://localhost:9981 If you installed on another computer of your network, enter its local IP adress, and the port number : 9981 Enter admin ID and password -> Save Refresh data guide. Now Emby can play Youtube Live/Twitch/Dailymotion (and many others) livestreams ! (If I have some time, I could edit this post with pictures. if I misspelled or misspoke something, please forgive me, English isn't my mother tongue.)

what am i supposed to use to get the tvheadend epg to work in emby? none of the channels are showing up
  25. Hi All, so, I have Emby for several years, after I head Plex for some time before then. In another thread here someone asked me if I used Sonarr and Radarr... I had no idea then what they were. So I first peeked at it, then looked at it, then I felt overwhelmed by what it all requires. I sidelined it for several months, before I thought to try it. Again, I was dumb-struck by what it all requires (indexers for example). I did have Emby, and I like that it recognized my movies even though my naming scheme was nothing like what Emby recommends (> Movies , > TV-Series). Mine is, more or less, movies/<year YYYY>/<movie name>.(<year YYYY>).some.other.info.like.res.or.language/<movie name>.some.other.info.like.res.or.language.<ext> TV shows are much more in disarray. So I installed Radarr, after I had decided to use debian as base-OS for the VM. And I thought Radarr would help me with my movies. Well, I had to correct my opinion really quick, I don't think it does help. Not with movies I already have. It might help with new movies, but I does have to test that. Not to get stuck on a specific problem, I added Sonarr. Then I understood, I will not get very far without an Indexer. So, I looked into NZBHydra2. I did like the looks of it, but then I decided to use Prowlarr nonetheless (at this point I purged this VM and started a new one from scratch, start from square one). I was lucky to get into drunkenslug for free, added Binsearch (free), looking at nzbplanet right now. I added Whisparr as last one of the Servarr package, I am not sure I need the others. I then added a headless qBit, and I started using it, just to test it. After some issues with it at first, I am quite fond of it now. As part of my DLNA troubleshooting, I had set up another VM along the way with Jellyfin that serves the same movies as Emby. Lastly, I added SABnzb. I had an Eweka subscription for some time, but it was dormant. I have to say I am used to download usenet article by article, and have some windows tool assemble it all. If the tool fails, I just kick the entire download. But I basically did not use nzb-files. That was years ago. (I first downloaded from the usenet in the first haf of the nineties,) Planned, but not implemented, it JD2. I have to say that I am not done at all. Populating Prowlarr with indexers helped to get all the other populated as well. So, without adding any connections or dataflow, this is my setup: I must admit I have not used the whole "Arr-"chitecture yet. Not once. I usually look at what is "hot" and "Top" on the trackers, I look at IMDB for similar movies to one I like or movies from an actor I like. How do I get Radarr or Sonarr to match my path-Setup: Radarr: Year/Movie Name (Year)/Movie file.ext Sonarr: Series Name/Season #/Series Name E##S##.<episode name if known>.ext Whisparr: <Genre or Keyword>/Movie Name (Year)/Movie file.ext How do I get Radarr to help my identify what is hot on a tracker? How do I get qBit not to lose track of where the data goes after it was completely downloaded? How do I get Sonarr prefer full seasons over single episodes? Has anyone else here a similar software-setup and perfected all the settings and the "inter-software-communication"? Can you help me with my issues? I would love to hear from others! Cheers, Roodee
