Emby Media Server Integration Issue with Third-Party Apps on Music Videos
gejianya posted a topic in Developer API
When third-party video apps integrate with Emby media servers, movies are directly displayed on the app's homepage via metadata APIs. However, music videos (e.g., MVs) are only accessible through folder navigation (e.g., "Music Videos" → Folders → File Selection). This causes two critical usability issues: No Homepage Content: The "Music Videos" homepage remains empty, forcing users to manually browse folders. Lack of Shuffle Playback: Third-party apps cannot activate shuffle mode for folder-based content, resulting in a fragmented experience (e.g., manually selecting each 3-minute video). Root Cause Analysis: Metadata API Limitations: Emby's default API likely prioritizes movies/TV shows, while music videos are treated as generic "folder items" without dedicated metadata endpoints. Content Classification: Music videos may be mislabeled as "music" (e.g., .mp3-like metadata) instead of "video," causing apps to exclude them from video-centric interfaces. User Impact: Inefficient Navigation: High-volume, short-duration content (e.g., 500+ MVs) requires excessive clicks. Poor Playback Experience: Absence of shuffle mode contradicts music video consumption patterns (e.g., continuous playback). ——use deepseek translate- 7 replies

Music Videos not playing when i click play from the Artist page
sjgidman posted a topic in General/Windows
I've just set up a Karaoke section using the music video Library type but if i click on to an artist page i get Playback Error "No playable items were found. Are you trying to play an empty folder?" but it works fine if i click on the individual video I have my folders set up like this Library Folder -- Artist Folder -- -- Track.mp4 -
EDIT: I forgot to mention my file folder structure for MV: no artists sub folders, all media are in same master folder. Music Videos: Edit Metadata/Album field I have a ton of concerts on dvd or bluray, which, thanks to chapters, I cut music videos from (individual song vs whole show). I enter proper value in album field, as per 1st picture. Where else than Edit Metadata can the Album data be seen, used, view filtered, etc ? I was expecting to be able to sort and view by album when browsing library (2nd pic). I suggest adding album option to the rest of "sort by" In the media info page, the album info is displayed (3rd pic) but in plain text; I would have expected to be able to click the album link and get a page with all the MV from this album.

In the Android app on my tablet (Google Pixel C with Android 8.1.10), if I set the Play On to the instance of Emby on my Roku stick and then select a video to play on it with the Play button then while it's playing, browse to another video and add it to the queue with Add to Play Queue or Play Next, the second video replaces the currently playing video and starts playing straight away instead of being added to the queue. Server: 4.6.4.0 Emby Android app: 3.2.05

Hi, Just wondering if you guys can point me in the right direction. I'm just in the middle of updating/cataloguing my Music Video collection with numerous separate video clips, music concerts, documentaries and general music related movies. I've read through the wiki on file naming and a few other posts relating to the topic but can't seemed to go in a direction. Currently I have a few folders: Movies Movies (music) - general music related movies Music - filled with MP3, FLAC etc Music Videos - Split by artist/title or artist/clips if general clips TV - TV series/doco's etc So all of the general music related movies are in the Movies (Music) folder (such as Spinal Tap, Still Crazy, School of rock etc) they're all named as per moviesand are set to movies in emby. The Music Video folder (and it's set as music video on emby server) has a mixture of docos, concerts and random clips (are clips). The docos/concerts are named as per movies, the clips are chucked in a seperate folder called clips and named as per the wiki - artist-clips/artist-song name.ext. As emby doesn't have the support yet for music videos, I'd like to find out whether I should split the clips and docos/concerts into a separate folders/categories and set clips to music video and the rest to movies. Most movies databases have the info and display correctly. With music videos you have to manually set the database number, update, generally make an image as the Db don't always have them. Which if it's a music clip, the Db won't have the info anyway, only for the doco's etc. I'm not too sure whether I should just stick to the music video category and persevere until it's supported or go the other way and make all the docos/concerts as movies and just leave the random clips either in a music videos folder or just plonk them in the music folder with all the MP3's as some other posts have hinted at. It's not real clear which way embys going either. Any direction would be great - thanks Pete

I may have setup the music video metadata wrong, but just wanted to see if there is a way to do the following: I have a music video by George Harrison called 'When we was Fab'. All the metadata that has been imported looks fine. Ringo Starr appears in the video, so I added him in the metadata under people (not sure what 'Type' I should be selecting), hoping that when I search for Ringo Starr, it would show me that he is associated with that music video (as well as any of his own videos). Is this possible?

i love having a music videos library but i felt that updating the metadata using the metadata manager was tedious, because my mp4 files are already tagged and my folder structure contains all the info that i need in the NFO files, so i wrote this python script to do the tedious parts for me. this script will: * autofill your NFO files (if you follow the folder structure) * change the sort title so that your music videos are sorted in a pretty way * walk thru your music videos and query your a musicbrainzid for each artist (i forget why i did this, i think it was part of a larger project with automatically getting artwork, but i cant remember) - you only need to do it once per artist what you need to do: * match my folder structure * know how to run python script * change line #44 of code to include your email address (musicbrainzngs.set_useragent('emby_music_video_metadata_manager','20200811','youremailhere@youremail.com') * change line #38 of code to point to your music videos (maindir = 'a:\musicvideos') folder structure: ARTIST NAME ----- ALBUM NAME (YYYY-MM-DD) ---------- ## TRACKNAME.mp4 Notes: month and day are optional... ## is album track number i am new to python. if you use this, its at your own risk, but it works well for me. i have another python script relating to youtube-dl that i will be posting in the other thread i started for that soon. you will see a bunch of commented out code in here. i forget what i was trying to do with it. at the end of the day, all i needed was what is in the script now to get my music video collection looking like the attached screenshot. mvmm_20200811_public.py

I have had a Music Videos library for a while and I am now adding in my Music as a separate library. I seem to remember from years ago that Music Videos would show up on the Artist's page if the Artist was entered into the Music Video's metadata, but this doesn't appear to be happening. For instance, I have a music video that has metadata Artist of Ariana Grande. I have an album of music with metadata Artist of Ariana Grande. Clicking on the artist's name in the Music Videos library takes you to the Artist's page where the album is visible, but the music videos do not show up there.

Music Video Library - artist name is not shown in the default view
mrb002 posted a topic in Android TV / Fire TV
Latest version (1.7.78g) on Android TV (NVidia Shield). In a "Music Videos" library, I have the metadata set for each video under Title, Artists, Album, and Year. In the non-folder view, each video is listed, but only Title and Year appear. This makes it so that you cannot see the Artist on the video until you detail into it. I think it makes much more sense to show Title and Artist instead of Title and Year on the Android TV view. Attaching screenshot showing comparison of Android TV view vs web view. Thanks.- 1 reply

Metadata support from IMVDB for Music Video collections?
Drazgo posted a topic in Non-Emby General Discussion
So music video collections have been somewhat hit or miss when it comes to updating metadata (if it exists). I just found http://imvdb.com/ which is the IMDB for Music Videos. Not sure if it could be used at some point to support meta data for music video collections? http://imvdb.com/about Many times my videos are pulling data down for movies based on titles of videos... even if it naming convention is David Bowie - Something, it seems to go off the something and pull metadata from themovidedb.org Anyway, the site looks like its set up in similar fashion to thetvdb.com and themoviedb.org. They have a beta API as well based on the about page. Cheers, Draz -
Hi, Sorry to dredge up an old subject but I think there is a solution to a problem. I would love to be able to add music video en mass and have emby automatically do some stuff to make my library pretty. If using a naming convention Artist - Title, could it be made to automatically fill those fields in on the metadata, then look within the local library to link it to Artist and Album and use the same art library as the music one. No external DB required, and you don't need to link to music you haven't got. I don't know how difficult this would be to do but I would love it. Any thoughts?

I am trying to set-up my music videos differently, but they are not appearing as I want. Currently I have a music video folder on my server, with all music videos in their respective artists folder (Beatles videos in Beatles folder for example). In the web client I have a thumb for music videos, which shows each artist folder and the videos inside the folders. This works great. What I want to do is move it to the music video tab under music, but when I do this, I am just shown the music videos, no folders. Hera are screenshots to show what I mean: Current setup: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bixlwxvdp7wxd9m/Screenshot%202015-09-02%2013.02.33.png?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/119p476a2vdwslh/Screenshot%202015-09-02%2013.03.18.png?dl=0 What I am seeing under the music tab: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1tvvtjyn3xsg7i9/Screenshot%202015-09-02%2013.04.32.png?dl=0 Is this not possible, or am I missing a setting or wrong structure?

Music and Music video (again, sorry about this) and Playlists
jamvids posted a topic in General/Windows
Hi, this maybe a feature request but was wondering what other people thoughts are on these subjects. First of all playlists, Would it be possible for a resume feature? Instead of the playlist builder coming in from the side, maybe a drop down box at the top of the browser which will remember the playlist you are working on until the browser is refreshed, then the add to playlist function is just one click per item instead of 4 or 5. A Jumble feature, i.e. when you have finished messing with your playlist, press Jumble and it will randomly re-order the list. Sort by artist so you can get rid of any duplicates in a list Some way of re-ordering manually. Music - Songs A song is just 2 pieces of information, Title and Artist, and you may have one song 10 times in a collection and this information never changes, so was wondering if, A "song" can be grouped, so if i like it or make it favorite it will do it to all instances of that song, as well as play counts being the same too. When you open a song in the browser it will tell you what albums it is on and if there is a local music video for it. which brings me to the subject no one wants to entertain, music vids, I know there isn't databases for them but there is always a simple way around things (what an assumption). I actually have a very accurate database of music on my server P.C., it's called media browser, and i only want things linking that are there, is there any way you can use the information at hand just to tidy this part up, all of the artist art is there ready to be used. No nobby online database needed, just two pieces of information, Title and Artist. Easy!!!- 1 reply

Issue #1 ************************************* When automatically grouping Music Videos either 1) "Music Videos" should still be available from Music menu bar or 2) "Music Videos" option should be removed from Music menu bar Personally I would prefer an option to choose. Of course these are only suggestions. ************************************* Issue #2 ************************************* My Music Videos are mp4s. I have set the "Artist" and "Album Artist" tags. Yet selection of "Artist" or "Album Artist" does not display associated music videos. ************************************* In the past I have asked more than one question/issue in a post. Rarely, if ever, do I receive a response to anything beyond the first question/issue. I group questions because in my estimation they are related and in some cases may even facilitate potential resolution. Please respond to both of my issues above even if it's just to say you will not respond to more than 1 question/issue in a post. Thanks for your attention and a great app!
