I use emby along with an rclone mounted google drive and every time it scans the library for new media, it takes a lot of time and bandwidth as well. Now, that's fine for regular use, but, I want to move my server to another computer. And, it looks like I need to re-scan everything and last time, it took 3-4 full days to do that. Is there a better way to migrate the metadata along with the server? I tried storing the metadata along with the media items. But, on testing with a few folders, it seems to be replacing the old nfo files and metadata with new ones after scanning the media again. Is it supposed to do that?

Hey Guys, I am new here. I intend to run emby server for a shop. I have 8 iPads running, 1 smart tv and another client running on the server. The 8 iPads will be running either videos or streaming music. By default the iPads will be running video ads repeatedly. The Smart TV will be running Ads continuously and the client on the server will only be streaming music continuously. What sort of server do I need? Do I still need a GPU. As for content, it doesn't change often, I know there is an offline mode but it is still beta. Do I need a good router for the WIFI as well. Thanks in advanced for any feedback.

So, I've been running my Emby server off of an old HP Pavilion for far too long now and I want to build something that'll allow multiple streams (preferably up to 10), excellent transcoding, and be able to handle all the peripheral tasks that come with adding content to the server. Downside, I don't have the funds to build the best thing ever. After perusing this forum for tips and suggestions, I've narrowed things down to the following build, and wanted to get some feedback and see if this will at least be close to getting what I want: CPU: Intel Core i5-8500 Desktop Processor Mobo: GIGABYTE Z370P D3 Case: Corsair Carbide Series 200R Compact ATX Case PSU: Corsair CX Series 550 Watt 80 Plus Bronze Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper RR-212E-20PK-R2 LED CPU Cooler with PWM Fan RAM: Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB Kit (2x4GB) SSD for OS, etc.: SanDisk SSD PLUS 240GB OS: Windows 10 Home Edition What am I skimping on? What am I spending too much money on? I have also never built a computer before so I really have no idea what I'm doing. Any advice at all would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

To whom it may concern, I'm running Emby Server version 3.2.36.0 on Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard. The problem that I'm having, while minor, is still annoying. First a little background on my Folder arrangement — which is necessary to illustrate the problem. On my sever I have a folder called Media, under which I have several sub-folders — each of which is a network share — named Books, Films, Images, Music, Shows and Video, respectively. Under both the Films and the Shows sub-folders I have 27 additional sub-folders — each of which has a one-character name, starting with 'A' and continuing on through 'Z', with the 27th having a name of '#'. For films, for example, all of the titles that start with a number (e.g.—2 Days in the Valley (1996); 7th Voyage of Sinbad, The (1958); 9 (2009); 12 Angry Men (1957)) has a correspondingly named sub-folder under Media\Films\#, which contains its video file, and all of its other related metadata files. I do this for all of my movies: Titles starting with "A", are located in sub-folder A under Media\Films, titles starting with "B", are located in B, and so on, for the rest of the alphabet. No problem. Emby Server recognizes this structure, and handles the metadata for each movie in its self-titled sub-folder with absolutely no trouble. When it comes to TV Shows, on the other hand, Emby Server is not so accommodating! As mentioned earlier, my Shows sub-folder has the same arrangement as my Films sub-folder (i.e.—sub-folders named "A" through "Z", plus "#") — however, Emby Server treats each of the "A" through "Z", and the "#", sub-folders as though it were the primary repository for a TV Show! Even though there are other sub-folders within each of the "A" through "Z" sub-folders for actual TV Shows, Emby Server still place images and .nfo files directly into the "A" through "Z" sub-folders! Plus, when I go into the Emby Metadata Manager, the "A" through "Z" sub-folders are themselves identified as TV Shows! For example, sub-folder "L" is designated as the resting place for The L-Word, sub-folder "Z" for Dragon Ball Z, and so on. Deleting the files and changing the designations in the Metadata Manager does no good, as Emby Server simply changes them back and re-adds the files! I have to "lock" each of these sub-folders to prevent Emby Server from re-applying the designations — of course, this has the undesired side-effect of disabling metadata updates in all of the sub-folders that reside therein (with each sub-folder containing an actual TV Show)! Also, this problem has appeared in all of the versions of the Emby Server that I have used (I started, years ago, with, what I think was, version 1.something). I find it odd that no one else appears to be having the same problem. I doubt that I'm the only one who has this folder arrangement. In any case, thanks for an otherwise nice product.

Currently I’m trying to get a media server set up to play corporate messages and videos around the plant. I’ve managed to set up Emby a powerful Intel Xeon PC, and I’ve been able to cast a video file to one of our Panasonic smart tvs. However, this is not exactly the ideal situation. Ideally I want to be able to play a single folder, with multiple video files inside, and play it on a constant loop to the 8 TVs around the plant. Is this possible in Emby? Currently I’m only able to cast one file at a time, to one TV at a time...

Hi there, i admit to be a new user and i signed up for the premiere monthly package to try emby up again my plex server. I have a large library and maybe this is related to my problem. That said my server has been stuck on indexing at 71.7 percent for two weeks now. I have restarted the app, the server many times but still gets stuck in the same spot. Where I am not familiar with emby i was wondering if perhaps i have something setup wrong. i wanted to attach the logs but when i click to download the lastest log it says its 4.3gb is that possible? Anyways i would be very interested to see it functioning properly. As it stands when i use the player i can see shows in the list no artwork and nothing will play Im assuming its because the server is hung on something. I will happy provide the logs if someone can explain to this newb of emby how to correctly download the logs. emby is running on a osx dedicated server with the latest software and latest production version of emby. Thanks in advance

English: Hello I suggest expanding the security: - user blocking function, 5 items (to be determined by the administrator) of consecutive incorrect logins - blocking the IP address (DDOS, Firewall), if for a period of 15 minutes (to be determined by the administrator) there will be an incorrect authorization (amount to be determined by the administrator) for 1 hour (to be determined by the administrator). Hello I am having a issue where https connections will get a timed out or a connection reset when connecting to emby from browsers, apps or anything trying to connect using https. A http connection does work and I have no issues. This issue arises after a few hours of starting the server and my temporary solution is restarting the server each time this happens. However if I don't restart the server then eventually it will work with https but the time it comes back seems random taking hours to a days. Attached is my most recent server log and I went through it and see that I get some errors like this below. Could this be a issue with my ssl certificate? 2018-03-23 07:29:18.228 Error HttpServer: Error in ProcessAccept *** Error Report *** Version: 3.3.1.0 Command line: I've been using Emby for years now, and I really love it! But there are something that I really struggle with every day since Atmos and DTS-X was released. Emby only detects TRUEHD and DTS-MA and not the object sound formats. I know this is not an easy task and that we all have been waiting for ffdshow to make it possible. What I want while we wait (forever?) for a fix is to make Emby Server automatically add a tag "atmos or DTS-X) to the movies with "ATMOS or DTS-X) in their file name. This would make it so much easier, and would make cinema mode play Atmos & DTS-X intros based on these tags! It would save me alot of work!

Why the server/transcoder doesn't detect the hardware capabilities of a given device?
Richard Branches posted a topic in General/Windows
Currently, the server transcode media if the target device doesn't support a particular video or audio codec, but it doesn't detect if the device cannot play a particular video fluently, for example: I have an Android budget phone, it has a MediaTek MT6580 @ 1.30 Ghz, 1 GB of RAM (940 MB Total), the screen resolution is 480x854 pixels and Android 7.0. I have a movie in MKV container, the video codec is VC-1 with a resolution of 1920x1080p, an overall bitrate of 18,8 Mbps and the audio codec is AC3 5.1. With the quality set to "Auto" in settings, this movie plays directly on my phone, but it doesn't play fluid, it stutter a lot, it was unwatchable, but this doesn't have to do with the wifi speed because I copied this movie directly to the memory of the phone and it wasn't fluid either. What I did afterwards was to change the quality manually, testing the available bitrates one by one in descendent order, starting with the quality smaller than the one in the video: 1080p - 15 Mbps: Didn't work 1080p - 10 Mbps: Didn't work 1080p - 8 Mbps: Didn't work 1080p - 6 Mbps: Didn't work 1080p - 5 Mbps: Didn't work 1080p - 4 Mbps: Worked So the only quality that worked without any issues (stutter, pixelated video, etc.) was 1080p - 4 Mbps, but there is one problem, it changes the quality globally, so if I play another video I have to set the quality again to "auto" in settings or during playback because not all the videos play fluid with the same quality, I tested others where I had to set different qualities. It's important to note this applies only to the local network and it only applies to HD videos because this phone in particular plays SD videos with no issues. So the questions to the Emby team are: Is this something that can be fixed in the future or is it very hard to implement? Have you ever consider something like this? I know the most obvious answer to this question is to buy a new phone with a better processor and memory but that's not the point, the idea is to have a better understanding about the transcoding process with a case like this. -

EmbyStat is a personal web server that can calculate all kinds of statistics from your (local) Emby server. Just install this on your server and let him calculate all kinds of fun stuff. This project is still in Alpha fase, but feel free to test it on your computer. Packages Supported platforms as the moment are: Windows x64 (IIS and Kestrel) Windows x86 (IIS and Kestrel) Docker https://hub.docker.com/r/uping/embystat/ Debian package I will try to support as many platforms as possible. More and more will come in the future! If you have knowledge about building Unix packages please feel free to contact me so I can support as many platforms as possible. Feature request If you have some crazy idea you want to see implemented in EmbyStat you can create a feature request here => https://embystat.featureupvote.com/ Or just go and upvote your favorite features so I have a better idea about what I should build next. Installation Guides Go to https://github.com/mregni/EmbyStat/releases and grab the latest release. The packages are selfcontained so you don't need to install dotnet runtime on your host. Run the server (Kestrel on Windows example) Embystat.exe --port <port> Passing a port is optional, default port is 6555 To host it in a Docker container you can use the following command docker run -p <port>:6555 -v <hostpath>:/app/config uping/embystat:beta Translations Translations are managed with the Crowdin web service. Feel free to help me translate the application in your own language here: https://crowdin.com/project/embystat. If your language is not listed just create a new feature request or ping me. Technology This project is build from scratch with the following technologies: .NET CORE 2.2 LiteDB SignalR NLog Angular 5 Rollbar Roadmap A lot of things need to be done before I can go life with this and publish my first 1.0 release. This will happen when all features from the Emby statistics plugin are implemented in EmbyStat.

Hi Leute. @@ebr Vielen Dank!

For the last few months, when i've started emby, which hasn't been often, as i've been otherwise busy, it's worked ok, but then chrome crashes. This then leaves chrome crashing immediately on startup... forever... even without emby running. The only way i've found to fix it is to delete the Default folder in my user profile's Chrome - User Data folder. This then means chrome starts from scratch, asking me to login again and sync everything. Not the end of the world, but a mighty pain in the arse. Since the first occurrence, i've clean-installed my laptop a few times. Chrome would have updated itself continuously. So i don't think it's a windows problem, and possibly not a chrome problem... unless there's something in my synced profile. If i run firefox, i can then access emby just fine, and it works as usual. Any ideas?

In-Progress Emby Server & Theater - Additional Extras/Special Folder Types for TV Series (similar to Movies)
funwithmedia posted a topic in Feature Requests
As I mention in a related post, I love the additional subfolders for Movie Extras (eg, Shorts, Scenes, Interviews, etc.)! It would be awesome to extend this functionality to TV Series as well. Specifically to add support for many/all of the same folders supported for Movie Extras, eg, extras specials shorts scenes featurettes behind the scenes deleted scenes interviews trailers As well as any additional folders that get added in the future (eg, hopefully Galleries). Support Placement of "Extras" Folders Within Each Season Folder, Plus A Naming Scheme to Link A Particular Extras Folder with a Specific Episode (eg, "\Season 1\E1 - Deleted Scenes\" for episode 1 deleted scenes): I want to clarify that it would be great if these various "extras" folder types could reside within each Season folder. So for example, within a Season 1 folder we could then have an "Extras" folder, a "Deleted Scenes" folder, a "Featurettes" folder, etc. And furthermore, that we could designate a particular folder to refer to a specific episode (eg, "\Season 1\E1 - Deleted Scenes\" for episode 1 deleted scenes). See more below, particularly why I think this would be so useful: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/55915-emby-server-theater-additional-extrasspecial-folder-types-for-tv-series-similar-to-movies/&do=findComment&comment=587195 Thanks for your consideration! Emby Server & Theater - "Galleries" Movie Extras Folder
funwithmedia posted a topic in Feature Requests
I love the additional subfolders for Movie Extras (eg, Shorts, Scenes, Interviews, etc.)! I would like to propose an additional folder: "Galleries". Within the Galleries folder the user would place subfolders (only one level of nesting) and each subfolder could contain any images the user chooses. Then, Emby would display the subfolder name as an Extra (in Emby Theater) and opening that extra would launch an image gallery of the containing images. For example: Movies\Disney\The Sword In The Stone (1963)\Galleries\Scrapbook Movies\Disney\The Sword In The Stone (1963)\Galleries\Film Facts "Scrapbook" is what would be listed among other Extras in Emby Theater, and the Scrapbook folder contains various images to be displayed in a slideshow that the user can navigate with their left/right arrows. This feature request is motivated by the following related post: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/55912-video-ts-folder-no-longer-recognized-in-movie-extras-folder/ Basically, sometimes there are extras such as image galleries and text content which are only available via the DVD menu. I have found that I can use FFMPEG to extract all the frames from a video file, and so use that on the appropriate VOB file from the original DVD. Then I can use VisiPics to delete all the duplicates, resulting in content I can then sort into folders (eg, Concept Art, Storyboards, etc.). All I need is for there to be the above support for a Galleries extras folder, which could contain multiple subfolders (only one level deep), each containing images to be displayed as image galleries in Emby Theater, etc. Thanks for your consideration! VIDEO_TS Folder No Longer Recognized in Movie Extras Folder
funwithmedia posted a topic in General/Windows
I'm on Server Version 3.2.70.0 on Windows 10. I don't know when this changed, but previously (I believe) Emby Server would recognize a VIDEO_TS folder in the Extras folder in the following directory format: Dark City (1998)\Extras\Gallery and Metropolis Comparison (Text)\VIDEO_TS And then Emby Theater would present that item "Gallery and Metropolis Comparison (Text)" in the lists of Extras, where it could be played via the External Player I have configured (in my case, VLC). The reason I do this is that sometimes there are extras such as image galleries and text content which are only available via the DVD menu. So I copy only the files within the original VIDEO_TS folder which are necessary for the DVD-menu-only extras I want and put those in a folder like the above example. Currently these folders are no longer being recognized and displayed for Movies, though it does still work for folders with the TV "Special" season folder. It is also possible that I am not remembering correctly and that it actually never worked for Movie the Extras folder and has only ever worked for TV Special folder. I don't think that is the case though -- I think it worked for the Movie Extras folder at some point in the past, as I normally test these things when I am converting a movie. I understand this is an edge case which might not effect many users, but figured it wouldn't hurt to mention it in case it is something that can be easily fixed. If folks have suggestions for how to achieve my above goals using a different route I'm open to that. Thanks! -
Hello! I wan't to add some features integrating my other servers in Emby but it seems like the webserver powering Emby is not able to interpret any PHP code. Is it possible that I can tweak the Emby server a bit so it's able to interpreter PHP? Regards, Louis Mylle

Hi all, I am new with emby server and may be I am doing something wrong and dumb but currently I am not able to make my emby server installation to download subtitles from Opensubtitles.org My server is (Taken from emby log): Operating system: Unix 4.14.15.64 64-Bit OS: False 64-Bit Process: False User Interactive: True Processor count: 4 Program data path: /var/lib/emby Application directory: /opt/emby-server/system Application version: 3.2.70.9 This is armhf version running on AARCH64 based SoC. My subtitles config looks like this: When I add files to the library, I am able to see requests to subdb in logs like the following one: 2018-02-03 10:47:09.804 Info HttpClient: GET http://api.thesubdb.com/?action=search&hash=C28F1D11BDF12742BCF25572428233F7 but no requests to opensubtitles.org in logs (even with debug logging enabled) Also adding username and password to the config didn't help. Media Info for the file which is used for example: Same results with 3.2.70.6 and 3.2.70.0 versions. Thanks in advance. P.S. I tried to provide as much info as possible but if you need any other log/data, I will provide them ASAP

I'm trying to get rid of some Artists who only made appearances on songs by other artists. I removed them from the metadata for the songs they appeared on, and I re-scanned my library after doing that, but these artists still appear in my Artist section. I found them in /var/lib/emby/metadata/artists and I tried deleting them from there too, but that didn't work either. How do I delete these artists?

Hey all! I'm attempting to set up Emby to run externally. However, whenever I attempt to connect with my Android device in either Chrome or the Emby app, I can see the server but get the message "We're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again." I've been doing a fair bit of research on this issue and haven't been able to find anything that has solved the problem (though plenty of others with similar issues). I've gone through the entire Connection Troubleshooter with no luck. I'm uncertain if my router is blocking traffic and how to check if so. I'm on AT&T U-verse. The combined modem/router that AT&T gave us should be in bridge mode, and I'm using my own router for WiFi and ethernet connections. I've set up a static IP for my PC that's running Emby Server. I've also set up port forwarding on my router for 8096 and that static IP address. Now it shows up as the local address. The remote address, however, is different: [image removed] I can connect to the local one from inside my network, no problem there. Still having problems connecting remotely. I've tried both signing in with Emby Connect (the server shows up but gives me the error message when I attempt to connect) and adding a server manually for both the remote and in-home addresses (same message) on my Android from both Chrome and the Emby app. canyouseeme.org is showing my public IP address at port 8096 is not connecting ("Connection refused"). I suspect the problem is due to the difference between the two IP addresses, possibly due to the AT&T U-verse modem. I am unable to use that IP address, however, in my port forwarding (my router insists upon 10.166.*.*, which is different from the public IP). I did set "External domain" to the same IP as the In-Home (LAN) access just for kicks and that didn't seem to work either. The attached log file does have an "error processing request" but I don't know if it's related. I did some digging on the forum, on port forwarding in general, and so forth, and now I'm here. Has anyone else run into this particular problem when connecting remotely? Thanks.
