  1. I'm very new to Emby after jumping the Plex ship. I bought the lifetime Premiere license, but I don't think that's relevant to this question: According to the Emby Dashboard, everything is located in my roaming profile. I'm concerned that might not be showing another location due to the significant size difference between Plex and Emby. I lost everything in Plex a few years ago and have since become a six-ways-from-Sunday backer-upper. As such, I just want to confirm what already seems obvious, and yet HOW can it be... The current version of Treesize Free reports that EVERYTHING in the Emby-Server folder is: 1.1GB The current version of Treesize Free reports my Plex Metadata-only folder is: 8.2GB I have Emby saving metadata to the media folders, but that seems to be just image files and has minimal impact on the size report.
  2. Hi, I've been using Emby for at least month on a temporary server and now consider buying premiere sub, there are some movie collections though that I configured myself, creating custom images, thumbs, description, etc. Will those images and descriptions carry over (if I have premiere sub) when I install Emby server on a dedicated linux server (using the same hdd, but obviously different os) and do backup and restore? OCD kinda kicks in and I really like how I organize my files. Thank you.

How to backup Emby on NAS?

I have Emby running on my DS418. Is there a way to backup all of the configuration changes I've made? -Thanks
  4. I just move my files to a new disk, but how can I use it to recover data?

    Backup manually

Hello guys, I know there is a standard way to backup, but it is only available for premium, and as I only use it for myself, I don't see the need to get the paid version, but there was a way to make a backup manual, for example go to the windows appdata and copy the folder that are there, and then if you format the pc just play it again in the same place? would it work that way? the backup would be more to keep the user created along with what I've already watched and also the metadata of the files, for example series name, episode name and etc, so you don't have to recheck everything again and have to manually mark what Already watched. Because I'm going to be buying a new machine, so since I'm going to have to reinstall everything again, I didn't want to have to do all this work again, since everything is already pretty organized.

    Various plugins not working correctly

Hi, Since i don't know exactly when, but i think one of the more recent updates is have problems with various, but not all plugins. For example the podcasts plugin is only showing an [Add] button, which doesn't do anything when i press on it. All podcast added before are still there but i can't add or config any new ones. The same is true for the CoverArt plugin. There is only a non-responsive [Add] button. Other plugins like the Server Config Backup don't show any backups which where made before and pressing on the Backup location magnifier doesn't give a response. There are few other plugins which don't work anymore, while others are still working, such as the Addi7ed and Playback reporting plugins. Removing and re-installing the troublesome plugins doesn't solve the issues... I am running the latest version for Qnap, 4.6.7.0. I have added a few images to show how it looks like. Apart from these plugins, it seems the Emby server is running fine. Is this a known bug or problem and is there something what i could do to solve this? And hopefully something else of course as completely reinstalling everything... [Edit] It seems like the scheduled task for the server config backup is still running and putting backups in the location which was configured before. These backups only don't show up in the plugin. Thank you in advance, Bartype
  7. Hi folks, Yesterday I used the backup plugin to back up my Emby configuration (which included live TV stuff including some series recordings). I then installed Emby Server on the new server PC I built, and restored the settings. It was pretty painless. Good job! One thing I noticed though is that in Home\Guide\Series there are no recordings listed. I had several series set to record new episodes, but I don't see those on the new server. Is it just that we're in hiatus over the holidays and no new episodes are on the schedule? It's only a few things that I record, so I will restore them manually... no big deal. Just curious if I did something wrong.
  8. Hi, I'm an Emby user since 2 or 3 months ago. Still experimenting on some things, but I'm already on a production scenario, with hundreds of items. I've spent a lot of time customizing metadata for single items, and such. As I'm an Emby Premiere user, I'm using the Emby Backup plugin to backup everything in case of disaster. However, I've read recently on other similar posts, and later I confirmed according to the wiki here: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159936-backup That the Emby Backup plugin does not backup metadata at all. According to the wiki, it's recommended to store local metadata to media folders. Until now, I just didn't use this option because I didn't want Emby to have write access to my media library. So I prefered to let Emby save metadata in its internal database, and use the Emby Backup plugin to backup the data. But given that metadata cannot be backed up this way, I can switch to store it on local media folders. In case I want to enable the option to store metadata to media folders, how would be a safe way to do the migration? Is it enough enabling the option "Nfo" on each library? Should I also enable the "Saving pictures on media folders"? (Sorry I have my Emby on Spanish and I'm translating the option, not sure if it's named that way). I guess I should enable both if I want it to store all metadata on the library, with its info/plots/customized artwork items, etc... And more importantly, I already have lots of valuable customized metadata for my libraries. What will happen when I enable this option to store metadata on library folders? Will Emby migrate all existing (emby-database) metadata to the nfo format and store it to the correct place on my library? I don't want to lose customized posters, etc... so I want to make sure it will save my existing metadata instead of downloading it again from the scrappers. And well, in case the migration is not a safe process, is there any other way to make this migration? And in case there is no other way, is there any good way of backing up the folders where emby stores this data? I guess images are stored as files and other metadata is stored in a specific table on a database? I'm guessing alot here, but shouldn't it be possible to automate some type of reliable backup copying the folder and making a dump of the table where metadata is stored? In case it matters, I'm using Emby 4.5.2.0 on a Synology x86-64 NAS. I kow I'm asking lots of things here. Thanks for any attention you give. Congratulations for this great software. I hope it gets better and better over time. Sincerely,
  9. Hi all, I’m looking to copy all the metadata from my server to a new second server, all file/paths will remain the same. The issue is though that I want both servers to remain running. I’ve tried copying the whole /var/lib/emby folder, and while that works fine to copy the metadata, it glitches out the server if both the original and copy are running at the same time. I can’t remove emby premiere from just one for example, and emby connect starts disconnecting users. I assume there’s some unique server identifier that distinguishes between servers or something like that. Is there anyway I can modify the the copy of my emby server so that it’s recognized as a new independent server by emby connect/premiere?
  10. Read a question just asked about copying user data to a new server with plugin. Is there any sort of documentation on things like where config data is stored, and how to back it up with and without the plugin? I like knowing a bit about systems I'm running so I can tweak a bit. It would be nice to know what I can expect moving my server from Windows to Linux, and how much my users will have to redo. As a first attempt moving my Windows server to CentOS, after I got the server up and running, I copied the contents of my Windows "User/AppData/Roaming/Emby-Server/programdata" into the Unix's "/var/lib/emby" directory (all the subdirectories were the same, so I thought it might work), which resulted in an evil core dump...lucky I backed up the original emby directory before I did that, so no permanent harm. Still, it should just be a matter of finding the right files and copying them over, not copying over the system/OS specific ones, and then making a few tweaks for the new environment, right? If only I knew which files to move and which to tweak... Thanks very much,
  11. I recently rebuilt the PC I have that runs my Emby Server. I used the Server Configuration Backup plugin to backup and restore my configuration and I also have enabled writing of the Play States into the NFO files for each Library. When I reinstalled Emby Server and selected a restore from backup all the server setting and some of the Library information was restored. What was missing was the Play States for Libraries whose Content Type is "Home videos & photos". The Play States for Libraries that are "TV Shows" and "Movies" restored perfectly. After that decided I wanted to change each Libraries sourced folder from being a locally mapped folder to being a network share reference. Once again Libraries whose Content Type is "TV Shows" and "Movies" retained their Play State and Libraries whose Content Type is "Home videos & photos" lost their Play States. This despite the Play State being accurately stored in the NFO files - the first Scan Media Library event just goes and rewrites the NFO files. So my question is: How can I backup Play States for Libraries whose Content Type is "Home videos & photos"? Ideally this should be part of the Server Configuration Backup plugin but it clearly either isn't or doesn't work.
  12. I have a EMBY server installed on my Windows10 PC, with "save metadata as nfo" and "Saving artwork into media folders" activated in the library settings. Now I want to build a NAS based on Unraid, surely I backup the files in the list below manually and transfer to new directory as the supporting article indicates. /ProgramData/config /ProgramData/plugins /ProgramData/data/collections /ProgramData/data/playlists /ProgramData/data/displaypreferences.db /ProgramData/data/users.db /ProgramData/data/library.db /ProgramData/metadata But I've noticed the people information in the .nfo files for my media indicating a directory that will be different with those on NAS. Then, the question would be this: Would those links transform properly “After the scan”, directing to the new directory? I am concerned about the people images won't be displayed unless a "Metadata Refresh" is operated. @@cayars
  13. I am trying to backup files to a portable external drive preserving the original size (profile: original). The video files is correctly copied. However the srt file was not copied and a vtt file is created instead. My problem is that when I plug the drive in my TV, vtt files are not recognised. Could the sync as is copy also the original srt files?

    Backup And Restore Server

Hi I'm doing a backup test on my mac. I used the server configuration backup extension (plugins) to do my restoration and I copied the metadata in the root folder where the metadata is located after the scan and that before scanning the libraries. The process is as long as if I hadn't transferred the metadata. I wonder if this is normal or if I should also use the NFO extension. In fact I am not sure what exactly this extension does apart from creating .nfo files next to each file. Thank you Edit: I think I used the metadata of another version of Emby that I had installed and which was not in .config but just before in my username folder. I believe that a simple way to restore on clean installation would be to copy and paste the emby-server folder as well as that of the application. @@dcol @@PenkethBoy @@Smaky

    Restore complete Emby directory?

Migrating Emby to a new PC but before I started I made a complete copy of C:\users(my user name)\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server. After reinstalling Emby on the new PC can I just copy and replace\overwrite? Thanks
  17. Hi! This is my first post to this blog - so please tolerate "stupid questions" as I'm neither familiar with this blog nor am I a native english speaker. The problem I'm facing: I'm storing movies on a NAS in my private network at home. By running Emby server 3.2.36.0 on a Windos 7 PC I created many collections and spent ours and ours in creating cover-art and other informations as a lot of the movies are documentaries and other stuff that is not "auto identified" by emby. Later I decided to change the PC to another one running Windows 10 and I installed emby in a much newer version (it was 3.8.x if I remember right). Doing a backup on Emby server 3.2.36.0 (via backup plug-in) and importing it to Emby 3.8. was not really doing what I wanted to, The collections have been basically restored but without additional movie-infos and cover art! So I decided to run the Windows 7 PC for another few months ... never change a running system :-). But as running Windows 7 is no longer a good idea I want to do this excercise again - now switching from 3.2.36.0 to the newest version of emby server. Any solution or advice for correct workflow for preventing me to spent an enormous amount of time again for re-creating my collections incl. cover-art? How to get all (!) movie informations copied? I'm very thankful for any kind of help! Frank

How to Restore Ubuntu Server Settings

Following the information from this link <https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Backup> I am running into either some issues or questions. I backed up the following folders from my old Emby server. config data metadata plugins Following the guide I installed on the new server and copied the files in the same locations </var/lib/emby/...> /ProgramData/config /ProgramData/plugins /ProgramData/data/collections /ProgramData/data/displaypreferences.db /ProgramData/data/users.db /ProgramData/metadata here is the command I used sudo cp –a /home/<login username>/config/. /var/lib/emby/config I had to use sudo chown –R emby:emby /folder name sudo chmod –R 755 /folder name to make sure some of the folders had the permissions needed as they were showing the local user I start the server and my users I had created are not there, nor are any of my libraries Going through the settings, some of the information appears to be in place. Did I miss something, do something wrong?

    Live TV M3U Backups

Is Emby currently able to set up backups for M3U streams? For example, if I'm streaming Fox from link A thru Emby and all of a sudden link A goes down, is there a way for Emby to automatically start streaming from link A's backup Link B. If Emby is not currently capable of doing this then is there something already in the works or does anyone know of a third party plugin able to achieve this?
  20. Hello, I have recently tried to restore Emby from a backup which was created by the backup and restore app. I have downloaded the latest version of Emby server for Windows and tried to restore from the plugin. I have it working so the plugin can see the restore point I want and I can see it can read the correct settings. When I click restore nothing happens at all. It just closes the point in which it says are you VERY sure? and I click okay or yes and nothing happens apart from closes that screen. Anybody else had this issue and is there a fix?

    Folder Sync for Backup Job

Hi there, the Folder Sync Plugin can be used for Backup Purposes... But, then please insert a "Move" Option so that i get my Files Moved to the Backup Location (just the original Files, without Transcoding etc.) Really nice would be an Option in Emby to Backup Media (MOVE) to a Folder if defined Users have watched it. That would really help to keep the Libraries organized and not too big.... Thanks for Reading best Regards Brudertac

Do I have a config problem or I should not worried about those warnings? Thank you
  23. Can we have a feature in the backup plugin to archive or compress the configuration backups? The block size on my ZFS share that it's backing up to is quite large, so the 19.0 MB of backup data for each backup is taking up 163 MB of space. Plus, since it's a backup, I can't imagine why it shouldn't be in a tar archive anyway. I think this would be simple to implement; eg, have it on by default or a toggle in the backup configuration, and then when it's trying to restore a backup just untar/unzip the archive to a temporary directory. Emby Server Crashing

After updating to the new 4.x platform of emby I have been experiencing APPCRASH for embyserver.exe Fault Module Name: KERNELBASE.dll Fault Module Version: 6.1.7601.24214 Locale ID: 1033 Every time I check the server, I have anywhere from 1-10 of these windows open. The EmbyServer.exe seems that it restarts itself after the crash. But I suspect that it causes a lot of random hangs on my server and when I try to load the my emby home page, it will load half, I will terminate the app and re open and then it will all load. This is all coming in conjunction frequent database cleanup errors (I don't have any in my alerts right now after restarting my host machine the last night so I cannot provide the exact error). Also after every restart or startup of Emby server after the latest update it will redirect me to a page saying it is "updating the database" and this takes I'd say anywhere from 5-20 minutes every startup. I am running this on a Windows Server 2008 R2 virtual machine on VMWare Workstation. Any ideas on what could be going on? Would it be best to start fresh on a new VM? If so, how would I go about migrating my server and configuration? (I have many specific and optimized settings with a pretty decent local user base)
