In-Progress Emby Server & Theater - Additional Extras/Special Folder Types for TV Series (similar to Movies)
funwithmedia posted a topic in Feature Requests
As I mention in a related post, I love the additional subfolders for Movie Extras (eg, Shorts, Scenes, Interviews, etc.)! It would be awesome to extend this functionality to TV Series as well. Specifically to add support for many/all of the same folders supported for Movie Extras, eg, extras specials shorts scenes featurettes behind the scenes deleted scenes interviews trailers As well as any additional folders that get added in the future (eg, hopefully Galleries). Support Placement of "Extras" Folders Within Each Season Folder, Plus A Naming Scheme to Link A Particular Extras Folder with a Specific Episode (eg, "\Season 1\E1 - Deleted Scenes\" for episode 1 deleted scenes): I want to clarify that it would be great if these various "extras" folder types could reside within each Season folder. So for example, within a Season 1 folder we could then have an "Extras" folder, a "Deleted Scenes" folder, a "Featurettes" folder, etc. And furthermore, that we could designate a particular folder to refer to a specific episode (eg, "\Season 1\E1 - Deleted Scenes\" for episode 1 deleted scenes). See more below, particularly why I think this would be so useful: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/55915-emby-server-theater-additional-extrasspecial-folder-types-for-tv-series-similar-to-movies/&do=findComment&comment=587195 Thanks for your consideration! I setup what should equal eastern standard time on emby during setup. However, the time displayed on the server is about 4 hours earlier than it should be. Where in the hell do I change the time to correct it. It would be nice if when it shows me the movie would be over at 5pm it is showing the correct time. HELP!!!!

This is another brand-new plugin which is available in the catalog now: Emby Data Explorer Important Note Make sure to clear your browser cache after installation and restarting the server! History In 2016 I was working on Metadata Providers and wanted to see and better understand which metadata is coming from which provider and which information was actually taken by Emby Server. In turn, I had created the MetadataViewer Plugin. Later, it became outdated and I was no longer around to update, so eventually it had to be pulled due to incompatibilities after the server had evolved. Meanwhile, there had also been an idea for a "Backstage View" plugin with the purpose to provide some low-level insights into Emby item data, but it never took off. This month, I came back to some work on metadata providers and I had the same problems again, which ended up in creating this plugin. It's a fusion of the MetadataViewer plugin and the Backstage View concept - with a name that leaves room for more... Beta For now, it's available for the beta server only It's been done in two and a half days, so please report bugs in case you find any How it Works The plugin adds a new entry to the Item Context Menu: This will open a dialog for data display: This dialog is the one and only UI that the plugin provides. Everything is happening there. I will describe individual features in subsequent topics. ENJOY!

Emby Server & Theater - "Galleries" Movie Extras Folder
funwithmedia posted a topic in Feature Requests
I love the additional subfolders for Movie Extras (eg, Shorts, Scenes, Interviews, etc.)! I would like to propose an additional folder: "Galleries". Within the Galleries folder the user would place subfolders (only one level of nesting) and each subfolder could contain any images the user chooses. Then, Emby would display the subfolder name as an Extra (in Emby Theater) and opening that extra would launch an image gallery of the containing images. For example: Movies\Disney\The Sword In The Stone (1963)\Galleries\Scrapbook Movies\Disney\The Sword In The Stone (1963)\Galleries\Film Facts "Scrapbook" is what would be listed among other Extras in Emby Theater, and the Scrapbook folder contains various images to be displayed in a slideshow that the user can navigate with their left/right arrows. This feature request is motivated by the following related post: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/55912-video-ts-folder-no-longer-recognized-in-movie-extras-folder/ Basically, sometimes there are extras such as image galleries and text content which are only available via the DVD menu. I have found that I can use FFMPEG to extract all the frames from a video file, and so use that on the appropriate VOB file from the original DVD. Then I can use VisiPics to delete all the duplicates, resulting in content I can then sort into folders (eg, Concept Art, Storyboards, etc.). All I need is for there to be the above support for a Galleries extras folder, which could contain multiple subfolders (only one level deep), each containing images to be displayed as image galleries in Emby Theater, etc. Thanks for your consideration! PS - If this is something you might like to see implemented, be sure to "Like" this top/first post (as well as any subsequent posts in this thread that highlight particular aspects of what you are interested in) -- "Liking" the top/first post helps the Devs to know how much interest there is in a given Feature Request.- 20 replies

I run Emby on my DS223j Nas and a Win 11 PC. Emby reports my server needs updating from 8.0 to 10. It instructs me to download the update (which I did) emby-server-synology72_4.8.10.0_x86_64.spk Now it tells me to stop the server. After I stop the server, how do I update Emby on my NAS??? The update file does not open saying to pick a program to open it. I spend 2 hours searching for a simple procedure explaining how I update the Emby server! Is this some secret operation? Why is there no help on the steps I do to simply update my server? Any help would be appreciated.

Pretty simple suggestion. I have multiple users for my Emby server. If I want to do continuous maintenance on the media, I have to tell everyone. some of them are harder to reach than others ( i.e. no Facebook or Skype chat etc. ) It would be great if say... on the admin panel, I could hit a check box that enables 'maintenance mode', where the server still runs does everything as normal, but instead of the login screen it displays a maintenance page saying the server is unavailable. Even better if I were able to directly put a reason in a text box that would then display on the login screen as well. Not really sure what others would think of this, but for me it would be quite helpful. mostly if I want to make sure no one is trying to access content I know won't work until I've done a full library scan again. Thanks for reading. -Kyle

Dear forum! I installed emby for the first time today and found the configuration quite easy. There is one problem I couldn’t figure out though. I have two folders I added to the libraries. Tv shows and movies. Both are imported, the tv shows are displayed as expected. The movies folder seems empty though. Only if I go into the movies folder and within again into „folders“ I see the movies. Any idea why this may be the case and how to change that?

I like listening to my music through my roku/emby setup. However, I don't need to know how the artist is while listening. I was wondering if there is some way to set up a virtualization like on windows media player? I can wait and my roku will go to it's screen saver, but I would like to make a choice. Or even display the lyrics on screen, all of my music files have the lyrics embedded.

EmbyStat is a personal web server that can calculate all kinds of statistics from your (local) Emby server. Just install this on your server and let him calculate all kinds of fun stuff. This project is still in Alpha fase, but feel free to test it on your computer. Packages Supported platforms as the moment are: Windows x64 (IIS and Kestrel) Windows x86 (IIS and Kestrel) Docker https://hub.docker.com/r/uping/embystat/ Debian package I will try to support as many platforms as possible. More and more will come in the future! If you have knowledge about building Unix packages please feel free to contact me so I can support as many platforms as possible. Feature request If you have some crazy idea you want to see implemented in EmbyStat you can create a feature request here => https://embystat.featureupvote.com/ Or just go and upvote your favorite features so I have a better idea about what I should build next. Installation Guides Go to https://github.com/mregni/EmbyStat/releases and grab the latest release. The packages are selfcontained so you don't need to install dotnet runtime on your host. Run the server (Kestrel on Windows example) Embystat.exe --port <port> Passing a port is optional, default port is 6555 To host it in a Docker container you can use the following command docker run -p <port>:6555 -v <hostpath>:/app/config uping/embystat:beta Translations Translations are managed with the Crowdin web service. Feel free to help me translate the application in your own language here: https://crowdin.com/project/embystat. If your language is not listed just create a new feature request or ping me. Technology This project is build from scratch with the following technologies: .NET CORE 2.2 LiteDB SignalR NLog Angular 5 Rollbar Roadmap A lot of things need to be done before I can go life with this and publish my first 1.0 release. This will happen when all features from the Emby statistics plugin are implemented in EmbyStat.

Hi, I'm running trueNAS scale on the latest version (TrueNAS-SCALE-23.10.0.1). I'm using the trueNAS version and not the TrueCharts version as I found speed issues with the charts version. So,.as per the attached screenshot, I've allocated the GPU passthrough (not sure if all 3 need to be on). I have an intel i9-9920X CPU and an NVIDIA GeForce GT 610. Those options are the only options in each of the 3 drop downs. I assume this is Intel Quick sync as trueNAS wouldn't let me allocate the GPU to a VM. Hardware transcoding doesn't seem to working. I have turned hardware transcoding on in Emby server settings. I thought them when hardware transcoding was running during a transcode it is indicated in the server dashboard, however when I am transcoding nothing about hardware transcoding is indicated. Have I done something wrong or missed something? Or is it that hardware transcoding is simply not possible? Thanks, Sam

I blew away my Emby install and started with a clean slate. I don't have previous data to compare against but I moved Emby's cache and metadata folder to a spindle drive and checked their sizes and compared that to Plex: Emby Cache folder: 812 megs Metadata folder: 428 megs Plex: Cache folder: 92 gigs Metadata folder: 35 gigs The libraries are the same and most of my users are still on Plex. As time goes on, will the Emby folder sizes catch up or is Emby more efficient at storing cache/metadata? Or when the day comes where I dump Plex and am 100% Emby, will the size of those folders be AROUND the same size as Plex is now due to increased client count? For those that maintain dual media servers and have equal usage on both, do you see those folders being about the same in size?

Starting from today, a new metadata plugin is available in the catalog: TV Maze Metadata Provider This is a highly efficient metadata provider for TV series which is safe to add as it has very low impact on library scanning performance. Features: A single API request per series provides all data: series, season, episode, seriesimage, seasonimage, episodeimage and extra images (banner, logo, backdrop) New 2-stage caching mechanism Single JSON file per series/person In-Memory Cache with auto-expiration Failed lookup caching (with auto-expiration) Uses TvMaze update checking mechanism Works by timestamp comparison Cached files do not expire by fixed interval Added episode matching by name and air date Metadata Providers TvMazeSeriesProvider TvMazeEpisodeProvider TvMazeSeasonProvider TvMazePersonProvider Image Providers TvMazeSeriesImageProvider TvMazeEpisodeImageProvider TvMazeSeasonImageProvider TvMazePersonImageProvider Limitations Provides metadata in English language only (but it is able to identify series and episodes by original title) Updates Version 4.8.0.20 (March 11, 2023) Now also provides crew information (people) for series Provides guest-cast and guest-crew information (people) for episodes

Good morning, I'm relatively new to Emby. I am encountering the problem that I cannot find/download subtitles for a certain series via the Emby app on my Google TV or via the Emby app on my Android tablet/phone, but it works fine via the web version of Emby. My setup: -Qnap with Emby Server 4.8.3.0 installed in container station -Emby premium account -OpenSubtitles setup correctly in both the Open Subtitles settings and in the library settings from the series and movies. -Open Subtitles VIP member -Automatic download with Sonarr/Radarr/SabNzbd As mentioned, the subtitles work well when I go to the web version of Emby (http://*****:8096/web/index.html#!/home), but the subtitles do not work via the apps. What am I missing? TheChief

Hello fellow Emby Users, lately i encounter extreme loading times, when i open emby on web/mobile app/desktop app it takes 10 seconds easy to load all the preview. Same for searching or any click, it takes ages. Starting a video file sometimes can take up to 30-60 seconds. If i go into the Database Settings and vacuum the database on next start up and restart Emby, everything is blazing fast again as it should be. But pretty much as soon as i start a library scan it slows down pretty fast till it's not usable anymore. A library scan takes +18 hours in this state. The VM is installed on SSDs and runs Ubuntu 22.04 minimal version. I set up a new VM and installed Emby again but i run into the same issues. I am trying to troubleshoot this for a couple of weeks now but i sorta run out of ideas. For storage i use cloud storage mounted via rclone and image extraction off. The VM has 8GB ram and 8 cores of a i9-10850K CPU assigned which is plenty so there shouldn't be any bottleneck. I sadly can't tell when this issue starts if it came with a new Emby version or not since i've got this for a while and only occasionally bothered to check what could cause it, so i have it for a while. If it requires me to test different scenarios and or send more files please let me know. Thanks for any help in advance! embyserver.txt

Emby is working fine with the latest 4.7 release but when I go to update it to 4.8 it starts to update the library.db and then fails saying the database is maformed. What can I do to get updated to 4.8 without just deleting the library.db and losing all data (especially watched data)? For some context this is an ubuntu 22.04 lxc container on a Proxmox server. When I go to the dashboard to manage Emby... there's the Alert section that shows everything from the last 7 days with the "See All" link showing farther back. Is there any way you can selectively hide some errors. Example, (this didn't happen, just an example) a backup was supposed to run last night and failed. It shows up in the Alert section. I notice and manually run a backup that works. Now I'm stuck seeing that failure for 7 days although I already took care of the problem. Would manually deleting the logs clear this (and everything else) from Alerts or is that stored in the database instead? Ideally, I'd like maybe a 'x' that shows up to the right of each alert that I can hit to either delete or hide that alert.

Hello, I would love to be able to multi select live tv channels in the set up screen and drag and drop several channels at the same time to modify the sort order. For example: Original list of channels: Channel A Channel B Channel C Channel D Channel E Channel F Channel G Ability to select channels D, E and G at the same time and drag and drop them after channel B for the following result: Channel A Channel B Channel D Channel E Channel G Channel C Channel F Thanks for your consideration!

Hello, For transparency, I have posted this issue on the Terra-Master forum also. Terra-Master Forum post link I am hoping someone can help me out. I tried to update my Emby server from 4.6 to the latest version 4.7.11.0. However the app failed to update and now it has disappeared on my TOS desktop and I cannot update or reinstall the application. The error message I receive is "Operation Failed!". Now my Emby server is down. Can someone guide me on how to update or if the worse come to the worse at least re-install the application please? My TOS version and TNAS details are: Terra-Master F4-210 4-bay ARM based TOS version: 4.2.31-2203011629

I have a lot of people using my emby (10 on average). When I do maintenance on it, it's no longer active. I'd like to add a button on the login page so that people who use my Emby know why it's not working. Is this possible? On the application?

HOW TO - Watch Youtube Live/Twitch streams on Emby with TVHeadend
Facy5 posted a topic in Tools and Utilities
Hello everyone ! Seeing a lot of people want to add Youtube Live channels in their IPTV section, and knowing you can't simply add a Youtube Live stream link in your .m3u because YTLive links change every 3 to 6h (unless you want to edit your playlist and refresh Emby everytime, which would be a nightmare), this is a (quiet long) tutorial to show you how to make Youtube Live (but also Twitch or Dailymotion) streams work like a real TV channel in Emby. I based this how to on my own knwoledge (basically none in Linux, a lot of trial and error), and the tutorial by Carlos Gomes, available here : https://cgomesu.com/blog/Tvhlink/ All the tutorial is setup on a Windows 10 machine. You will need : - a Windows 10 (build 19041 and higher) or Windows 11 machine - Windows subsystem for Linux (can be version 1) - WSL to make short - a Linux distribution of your choice (preferably Debian or Ubuntu) - TVHeadend - Streamink - the TVHeadend plugin from the Emby plugin store 1) Install Windows subsystem for Linux. For Windows 10 below build 19041 : Open Powershell in admin mode, copy/past these commands : dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:Microsoft-Windows-Subsystem-Linux /all /norestart dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:VirtualMachinePlatform /all /norestart The Linux distributions available are : Ubuntu, Debian, kali-linux, Ubuntu-18.04, Ubuntu-20.04, Ubuntu-22.04, OracleLinux_8_5, OracleLinux_7_9, SUSE-Linux-Enterprise-Server-15-SP4, openSUSE-Leap-15.4 , or openSUSE-Tumbleweed. Then, still in the Powershell, download your distribution of your choice : To install Ubuntu 22.04 : curl.exe -L -o ubuntu.appx https://aka.ms/wslubuntu2204 For Debian : curl.exe -L -o debian.appx https://aka.ms/wsl-debian-gnulinux Then restart the computer. Optional : If you want to install WSL 2, check this link by Microsoft : https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install-manual#step-4---download-the-linux-kernel-update-package For Windows 10 build 19041 and higher : In the Command Prompt (or in Windows Terminal, available in the Windows Store) in admin mode, with WSL 2 already installed : (without the < > ) wsl --install -d <Distribution Name> For Ubuntu 22.04 : wsl --install -d Ubuntu-22.04 or, for Debian : wsl --install -d Debian Then restart the computer. 2) Install TVHeadend Go to the download page : https://tvheadend.org/projects/tvheadend/wiki/AptRepositories For Ubuntu, the easy way is to install via PPA : sudo apt-add-repository ppa:mamarley/tvheadend-git sudo apt update sudo apt install tvheadend For Debian, because the distribution can't handle PPA, to have to do this : curl -1sLf \ 'https://dl.cloudsmith.io/public/tvheadend/tvheadend/setup.deb.sh' \ | sudo -E bash Then after, the usual : sudo apt update sudo apt install tvheadend Once TVHeadend, and all its dependancies, donwloaded and installed, the install wizard will automatically be launched. You just have to create an admin ID and a password, leave the rest by default. 3) Install Streamlink ! For Debian, make sure you have backports repositories installed, otherwise you will get an older version of Streamlink and cause Python errors in TVHeadend ! echo "deb http://deb.debian.org/debian bullseye-backports main" | sudo tee "/etc/apt/sources.list.d/streamlink.list" sudo apt update sudo apt -t bullseye-backports install streamlink 4) Start the TVHeadend server : sudo tvheadend Wait a little, untill you see this line in blue (of course, the number version could vary with future update) : [ NOTICE] START: HTS Tvheadend version 4.3-2106~g9e1eb89be started Go to the webserver page of TVHeadend : http://localhost:9981/ Warning ! If after entered your admin ID, the page show you a 403 Forbidden error, type : sudo tvheadend -C It will show you the post install wizard to configure admin ID's (keep the same as the install) and a client ID (you can just keep the same ID as the admin account). Now : a) set up TVHeadend -> https://cgomesu.com/blog/Tvhlink/#basic-configuration b) create an automatically updated .m3u with Youtube Live/Twitch ... -> https://cgomesu.com/blog/Tvhlink/#automatic-network-of-livestream-channels If you create your .m3u from Windows (with Notepad ++ for exemple), I strongly suggest you to save it in your Linux home folder. Once done, you need to modify the permission of your .m3u, otherwise TVHeadend won't have the permission to handle it. To do so : cd path/of/your/playlist/ chmod +rwx yourplaylist.m3u Basically, your .m3u shoud look like this : #EXTM3U #EXTINF:-1 tvg-id="ChannelID.ShortCountryCode" tvg-country="ShortCountryCode",Name of the channel pipe:///usr/bin/env streamlink --stdout --default-stream best --url https://www.youtube.com/user/ChannelName/live 5) Install the TVHeadend plugin You can find it in the Emby plugin store, in the Live TV category. Once installed, restart your Emby server. Then, in the admin pannel, in the Live TV section : Add a new TV source -> select TVHeadend If you installed the TVHeadend server on the same computer of the Emby server, change the Tvheadend Server Web Interface URL with : http://127.0.0.1:9981 instead of http://localhost:9981 If you installed on another computer of your network, enter its local IP adress, and the port number : 9981 Enter admin ID and password -> Save Refresh data guide. Now Emby can play Youtube Live/Twitch/Dailymotion (and many others) livestreams ! (If I have some time, I could edit this post with pictures. if I misspelled or misspoke something, please forgive me, English isn't my mother tongue.)- 1 reply
