Greetings, Is there any way to automatically update the image of collections without having to do it manually? Let me explain: the collections option allows you to edit the image and add one from an external source, but what I really like is how Emby automatically generates covers by combining the artwork from the different collections within the collections library. In the movies library, I updated the metadata and regenerated all the images so that a cover was created automatically. However, this option doesn’t seem to be available for collections. When the system initially generated the collection covers, there were very few items inside them because I was just starting to create them. This resulted in the cover including repeated images. Now that the collections are complete, I don’t know how to regenerate that cover automatically to reflect the current content. Is there any way to do this? Best regards.

Emby Server on TrueNas not allowing hardware transcoding after update
thekingpin posted a topic in Linux
Hi, My GPU is not longer shown under hardware transcoding after the update to 4.8.9.0. After rolling back to 4.8.8.0 the GPU is available again. The logs are from 4.8.9.0 and the hardware is being recognised. Nothing else has changed. Screenshots showing the hardware are from 4.8.8.0 and without are from 4.8.9.0 hardware_detection-63863228778.txt embyserver.txt -
I know this is easier said than done, but could the Apple TV app for Emby get updated so it’s like the Emby app on the Fire Stick. It's specifically lacking the option to see when the movie will end while you’re playing the movie. You also can’t see the cast of the movie while playing the movie like you can with the Fire Stick. There are other options missing but those are the most important two that I think would be very beneficial.

I was just wondering with Windows 10 around the corner can we expect the new version of Emby Theater to be released soon? Last I heard it was still in alpha testing which was sometime ago. Just thinking ahead as I currently use Emby for WMC and will not be able to upgrade to Windows 10 as WMC is dead.

Currently running Emby Server version 4.7.14.0 on a VM, Windows 2022 server. All is running perfect and no complains, remote access works fine, local access works very good and no performance issues. The problem I face is how to update Emby on this windows platform. Always has been a challenge. In my last attempt it failed miserably to the point I had to roll back (yes, beauty of a vmware snapshots) I have couple of questions; 1. Is there a documented procedure that shows how to update Emby server on Windows, knowing that emby is running as a service? 2. Any progress with including the update process within emby interface (like in a linux setup)? What I have tried that did not work; 1. My working directory for emby is C:\Emby-Server and there's two sub directories under it: a. programmdata b. system 2. I also run Emby premiere which allows me to use this "Backup and Restore" feature. I took a backup of Emby Server and see the file under my C:\Emby-backups that is the directory where the backups are saved. After installing the new emby 4.8, by default the installation goes to c:\users\user_name\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server and of course it asks you to start from scratch. Shutdown services and moved the two directories from c:\users\user_name\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server to c:\Emby-Server and overwrote the two directories there. Started services and launched the web interface. I went to Backup and Restore feature and to my surprise the backups taken from version 7.x are not visible from version 8, so the backups are kind of useless when you upgrade emby. Is that correct? In addition to taking the backups, I have saved a copy of the two directories programmdata and system with services down yet on a new path c:\saved-data. With services down, I copied the original directories from c:\saved-data to c:\Emby-Server to bring back the old metadata but at this point the server was having all sort of issues with hanging and not responding to certain views. I think there are more granular steps to accomplish this as only certain data need to be copied back and not all the content of the two main folders. I finally rolled back from the vmware snapashot and all is working great but stuck on version 4.7.14.0 Looking for an upgrade path to preserve content and metadata. Any help?

Well, I've been using Emby for about 2 months now and honestly I've been really enjoying it, it's a very useful tool and I definitely intend to purchase the Premiere version, however, $119 for my country currency which is 4 to 5x weaker , it ends up being a bit expensive, so I plan to expand my community before purchasing. Regarding suggestions, I have some improvements that I would like to see. - Possibility of customizing the layout by blocks, this way, each Admin could leave the interface in the way they find most interesting just by moving the desired blocks. - Being able to adjust the menus would also be great, currently they come with predefined sections as in the case of the Series library, where we have (Series, Suggestions, Premiering, Favorites), so being able to adjust which of these menus will appear, their labels and order would be very good. - Default layout for all users would also be a great addition, from what I gathered, each user can adjust certain features in the interface, however, they don't seem to be saved, for example, I have 2 users (Admin and Personal Profile), and In the personal profile I prefer the List View mode, however, every time I enter, they are shown in the Covers format, so being able to standardize the layout for everyone would be very useful. - Vertical Covers, I have some titles that I simply couldn't find horizontal covers, so being able to change the layout so that the covers are vertical would be great, in this case, the suggestion of customizing the interface by blocks would fit very well, after all, the user would only need to insert a horizontal list with vertical covers. - Being able to customize the sidebar would also be a great addition, for example, instead of having a category called "My Media" and the folders I use, I could simply insert links with custom labels and icons for specific sections, like favorite episodes , favorite series, blocked playlists, or even hide the sidebar and just keep a few links on the side or top like in Netflix layout. - As an Administrator, it would be great to allow certain users to access certain productions and others not, for this, it would be interesting to create user types and permissions, such as roles in Discord, so, instead of allowing each user to have access to specific content, it would be enough to include the new user in a group with the necessary access. Anyway, these are just suggestions of things I would like to see.

Hello Emby, For your information: After update to 4.8.0.80 it was not possible for me to connect to the server running on my win 11 desktop via Android Emby app on Samsung S22. Tried everything including disabling the win 11 firewall. Turns out I had to delete the local IP adress, and the issue was gone. Hope this was useful.

Why is there a book category on Emby if it doesn't support it ????

I recently tried to use the books category on Emby but it seems it doesn't work. I tried using PDF and CBZ files. They do show up but when I click on it it's just blank! -
UPDATE: Seems to be broken by Python3.11. I installed it on my 4th box that I have running upstream packages, and 3.11 hoses it totally. Investigating. Well, I used to post my updates in my original thread, but I guess after 5 years I can no longer edit the first post with the latest details. So here we go. A new app, a new thread. 4.12 is a MAJOR ground-up overhaul of the EmbyUpdate app for Linux. I hope I didn't just break a bunch of people though. It was a monster task to get it to self-auto-update from the old app to the new app. I tested every way I could imagine, but things never go as planned out in the wild. Why I suppose Luke and company haven't got this as a built-in feature yet. If I broke you, I'm sorry. I did my best. But I feel the new architecture is here to stay. Future updates should be smooth, finally. But enough of that. On to the shiny. EmbyUpdate GitHub <== You install it here Note: Now requires Python 3.7+. Current development is on 3.9 and 3.10 but only 3.7 is required. EMBY Server auto-update You can use the app to install Emby for the first time or to keep your current server updated to the latest and greatest. When you first run the script it guides you through an interactive configuration to set it up just how you want. You can rerun the wizard at any time, or change any settings through command line arguments. You can set it up, and just run it when you want to check for updates. But what it was really created for was to run from CRON or SYSTEMD on a schedule to do all the work for you in the background. I've had it running for over 5 years, and never missed an update! Once it's set up, it just works. You choose during setup if you want Stable releases or Beta releases. From there, I'll keep you running on the latest. SELF AUTO-UPDATE Struggled for many years trying to figure out how to update a Python script in place. Old versions would download the new code, but keep running on the old code till that run was done. It wouldn't run the new code till the next time the app started. Now, for every run, it will check for self-updates, download one if there is one, install the update over its current code, and then restart itself to run with the new code. This is the first thing it does, so it's always running on the latest release. But I don't traditionally have a lot of those. Because, well, even the earliest releases would still work if they didn't keep messing with Python. But as Emby changes, and as Python marches on, I'll keep moving along with them. In 5 years I've only broken people once. And that was because of trying to merge a pull request from another user and not understanding fully how GitHub worked. I wanted SOME of his updates, but I got ALL of them. Sigh... Guess that's how you learn. Some cool new features: * If it can reach your Emby Server instance (by default it tries the standard port 8086 on localhost) it will pull the version from it, so it can know, right off the bat, if an update is needed. Use different ports? Use a different address? No prob, it will start a wizard to find out how to reach the server. Don't want to mess with it? You can turn that feature off, it'll never ask again or complain one bit. New install of Emby? You can just skip it. Next time it runs it'll try again. It doesn't need this to operate, but it helps it to keep track. In case you updated outside the app or did something weird. I'll work on a future update to give it access to more through the API if you give it login credentials. Maybe it can check if anyone is watching anything, and hold off until no one is streaming or logged into the server. It'll just keep trying till it finds the server free. How cool would that be? * It logs all self and Emby update history. So you can see what and when. Currently, you have to look in the DB with something like DBeaver, but finishing out that interface is high on the to-do list. I'll have that in a few weeks or less. Most of the config items are viewable/updateable through command-line arguments already. Just need to add views for the history databases. * Want to switch from Stable to Beta, or Beta to Stable? No prob. Just run the config updater and change what you want it to be. The app will switch you. Of course, use it at your own risk. Just like you would doing it manually, things can go wrong swapping back and forth. But you CAN. * I have lots of new features in mind. From email updates to a GUI for the desktop people. Course knowing my luck, just as I get all that written Luke will put auto-update into the Linux versions. I haven't had to worry about keeping up to date for years and years. Now you can not worry either! I run my Emby on a headless server in a storage closet-turned-server room. It's great not having to go jump through hoops every time Emby says there's an update! I haven't even seen that message in years!

Now I know I must have done something wrong. I'd seen the notice to update Emby for a week or so and I'd been putting off updating to DSM 7 so I did them together. Now when I go to Emby it wants me to set everything up like a new installation. My files are still on the hard drive so I figure I did something wrong in the installation. Help. How do I get Emby to see everything that is already there? Is there an easy way or do I have to go through everything and reset Emby up?

Emby Server Update "Please restart the server..." no update happens
phlox posted a topic in General/Windows
I did a quick search and didn't see this anywhere so apologies if this is a duplicate issue. I have updates turned on and the server should reboot itself, however, whenever it "updates" it reboots and loads to the previous version (currently 4.7.1.0 trying to update to 4.7.2.0) and then continues to give a "Please restart the server to finish applying updates." It did this when updating to 4.7.1.0 from the version before that as well and i manually downloaded and installed the version. But i don't want to have to keep doing that. How can I get the server to actually complete the installs to the new versions? Operating in Windows 10 (Pro) -
So I attempted multiple methods to backup emby and follow guides for accurate removal and reinstall from DSM 6 > 7. After encountering a host of issues I gave up the ghost and just went ahead and uninstalled emby, updated the server and reinstalled. I knew this would require me recreating the server - whatever, I have time. Now that I've done this I can't see any of my media when adding libraries. They don't even appear to scan - I see no percentage check or anything. Just empty libraries. I've used the emby install from package center and the updated one with a manual pkg I've tried changing permissions on the shared folders to other users, including the embysvr user itself. I've tried reinstalling. I've tried chowning all my folders. I've tried everything, up to and including making embysvr an admin! Nothing is working! Any assistance, next steps or links to guides would be more than welcome. embyserver.txt

I am trying to use Emby through roku, which I haven't done in a few months, and it is telling me that I have to update it. I am notified of an update on the dashboard and I tried both restarts and shutdowns but it still doesn't update and I still can't get into the server on the roku app. I tried disabling automatic updates and I still can't login. I tired a download but it is wanting to set up a new instance and not update the current one. How do I update emby or bypass the update? I have version 4.4.3.0 installed on Windows.

@LukeI hate to bother you and the developers but the new Emby update has seems to have flip the audio Channels around. I have several 5.1 audio movies and shows that have been affected by this. And form the look of it the tv app and mobile app doesn't have any way to change the audio settings or at least force it to stereo audio. Please fix this. Btw love the new update y'all are making so much progress it's amazing.

Hi all, I manually installed Emby 4.5.4 on a clean Terramaster F2-210 NAS environment and everything went fine so far. Today I found on my TOS that there's an update for my Emby Server App so here are two questions for you: why TOS is reporting Emby Server as 4.5.2.0 even if I manually installed versione 4.5.4.0? since no newer version of Emby should be released, am I supposed to run this update? Thank you!!

LG Dicken

Hi! I updated my Emby Server through the App Central in my NAS following your instructions (https://emby.media/asustor-server.html). Afterwards, I went to http://localhost:8096 and I indeed successfully updated from the version 4.4.3.84 to the 4.5.2.0. However, when I triy to access my emby server on my LG Smart TV it gives me the following error "Connection Failure: We're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again". Whenever I access the http://localhost:8096 in Chrome it enters without a problem and it says emby web is 4.5.2.0 (see image 4.5.2.0.png). However when I access the http://app.emby.media/ it says my Chrome emby web version is 4.4.3.84 and not the latest (see image 4.4.3.84.png). Is this related with my problem? Please, does anyone knows how can I recover the access of Emby Server in my LG TV? Thank you, Mário

Hi, Just a quick check to see if Emby is fully compatible with Big Sur before I update my server? Thanks in advance!

So I have been thinking for awhile of changing my Servers OS to MAC. This is mostly due to the intrusive updates that are forced on us Windows10 Users and the bloatware that is constantly being reinstalled by these forced updates. Like xbox gamebar, etc and several others. I did figure out that by using Shell i can remove a lot of these programs I dont want or use but whenever their is an update these programs are forced back onto my PC using Data, which is expensive nowadays, and disc space which I like to keep clear for my needs not Microsofts attempt to get me to use programs I have ZERO interest in. EDGE is a huge irrigation as well. I remove it and it comes right back. Its as if Microsoft somehow knows I just shelled the hell out of their bloatware and they want it back on ASAP. Im beginning to think Windows OS is more or less spyware now as the years go by. I used to love Microsoft. But that has all changed and it wasnt a sudden distaste either. To to put insult to injury they pin that crap to my Desktop as to say, HEY BUDDY! Heres your internet browser you need to use! Serious BS. Also the new GET HELP for Windows10 infuriates me and I like the old troubleshooter. But it is either gone or buried in the OS some place. Also I find it funny that on the Microsoft help sites you have all these people saying that the majority of these programs cant be removed and are hard coded into the OS and they have to be there for it to work. This is an obvious plow to get people to keep programs on their PC that Microsoft gets paid to put on them. Really they are just trying to discourage people with misinformation. I read about a registry hack that can stop the updates but that was a couple of years ago someone had posted that and if I was terrible company like Microsoft Id patch that out as soon possible because, darn it your gonna get force fed the updates whether you want them or not. I hate companies like this. The only option is to postpone updates for a a week at which time they will force update you. I have read that MAC does not do this to its users. If so thats wonderful. Some of the best news Ive read all day. My server is a big part of my life and I use it constantly so the fewer issues I have obviously the better. Im just sick of Microsoft and need some good advice. Other considerations are of course just going to Linux Mint or something similar. I run KALI on my Chromebook so I am familiar with the struggles of changing an OS and how difficult it can be. Course Chromebook is a bit extreme considering the length at which you have to go to to get the darn OS on a system that doesnt like you doing that sort of thing and fights you the whole way lol. I do enjoy UNIX based OS though as Im an old IDX/IBM/DOS guy. I dont use the PC for gaming, I have another one for that, or anything else really. Mostly I just keep it running just for the server. So an OS that is light on the resource consumption is something I thought about a lot. Microsoft is not like this especially when the Antimalware crap decides to bog down the PC even though I already have a dedicated antivirus and dont need or want their default crap. All this said i would very much like to hear from the community about their thoughts and experiences with MAC OS as I worry about any compatibility issues from switching I might have. Cheers
