    Manually updated nfo

    I have been doing some manual updating of some of my nfo files (updating outside of Emby, so I can batch edit). I am finding that the only way for Emby to read the new nfo, is to remove the video file, library scan, and then re-add the file. Am I missing something here? I can't see an option to read the nfo, without doing the above. If I select 'edit metadata', the original medata is displayed, not the new metatdata

    safe to update?

    is it safe to update? i really dont want to update emby only for it too go into the endless cycle of shutting down like it was before. is safe to install? is anyone else having any problems with it?

After getting prompted to update in the web app, I went and downloaded and did so and now the server won't stay active, as soon as I close out of the Emby Server App, and try and access it either through the web app or the player on the Shield it isn't there. When I go back to the Server app again and open it, it starts up suggesting it had crashed. I've rebooted the Shield etc and still the same behaviour. Was just wondering if anyone else was having an issue with this update or whether is it just something local to me. I've kept the previous installer so I could try rolling back?

    ANSWERED Lost all users

    @@cayars Hi, I'm assuming there was an update recently as my son told me today that he cannot watch any shows or movies via my Emby server, it just flashes a still image and errors. I checked the Dashboard which showed that he and another user had logged in and out within a few seconds. When I tried to check his user account I realised that all Users were missing! I tried to add him again but the server just hangs and does nothing. I have restarted Emby several times and restarted the physical server but no solution. Server has been running for several months with same users without any issues and I have not logged on to Emby or changed any administrative settings for months. Server is running and is following spec: Dell Poweredge R610 Dual Xeon processors X5670 2.93ghz Windows 10 Pro 64 (legit) 64gb ram 240gb SSD 4 smaller SATA drives All media on 4 other servers in same rack. I use Firefox for administration
  5. This started to happen 7 days ago. I am running no fancy plugins and the server version (I know it is not the latest but it works) has served me well. Attached is the log as well as a picture from the Dashboard. I searched the forum and it looks like that there is a problem with the SSL connection. No idea what I need to do on my side. But any updates through the Dashboard seems to be impossible. Please advise. O2G server-63655498727.txt

    Updating my Server

    Hi, I have Emby installed on a seedbox with Whatbox using .NET Core Runtime (installation instructions here so maybe you have a better idea). I've tried enabling automatic updates and manually restarting my server but I can't get my server to update. I'm running the beta. Is there no way to update with a one click method? This seems like a common sense addition if it wasn't already there but I would think it is somewhere and I just don't know where to look for it. I'm not so sure how to go about updating the server otherwise, so please help me out. Thanks in advance.
  7. Running Debian Stretch (do I need Buster before I upgrade Emby?). How do i update the emby server instance? I've looked all over this forum and in the wiki and I see nothing (except below) that talks about how to upgrade/update. Is it: apt-get install --only-upgrade mediabrowser ?? I read this in another post in the forum. also, any known issues with this upgrade that I should be aware of?

    ANSWERED Emby updates (Docker)

    Hi all I am running Emby as a docker image and it is running great. My problem comes when I do the updates. For the update, I use watchtower which picks up the updated image, if newer version exists and installs it. However, after the update, Emby starts with the wizard and does not use previous configuration, so all the metadata is recreated (which means all previous users, collections, etc. is lost). Currently, to resolve the issue, on the host I do something like this after the update: docker stop emby cd /var/lib/docker/volumes rm -fr newvolumefoldername/_data cp -R oldvolumefoldername/_data newvolumefoldername/_data docker start emby so, when I go back to Emby, old configuration is used. But I am sure there must be a better way to do the updates and I am afraid if there are any changes in the db or config schemas, they will not be applied with the process I am doing. Can somebody please help? How are you doing Emby docker updates? Thanks, Vel

    Update Roku App

    After updating Emby to I am able to stream fine from the web but when accessing content from Roku I am having issues with really slow loading and once it loads after a few min it starts loading again. So far from my observations It appears to be more of an issue when watching content that needs to be transcoded. Any Suggestions? --Loads fast and has no issue on ios but I noticed that it is direct streaming
  10. I just got a notification that there was an update for the server on my Shield, 4.4 I believe. Downloaded it through Chrome but after the 'staging app' screen when I click Install I immediately get an 'App not Installed' message. Tried downloading it to various places, internal drive, connected drive but exactly the same behaviour. I then tried the beta as well, but again exactly the same thing. I'm not really sure what else I can try other than uninstall the current version, which is but obviously that's a last resort as it's going to mean setting everything up again and will take a long time.. Has anyone else had a similar issue or have a fix? Maybe I'm being stupid? I should say I'm on the Hotfix path on the Shield 8.0.2 as I was losing HDMI sync constantly, which the hotfix seems to have sorted, but I'm not sure whether this would make any difference?
  11. Everything was working fine, and I noticed a few days ago that there were alerts, and all of them indicating that the check for application updates failed, and the check for the plugin updates failed. It used to work because I remember seeing the updates. Where do I start to look?

    New version Update

    I was just wondering with Windows 10 around the corner can we expect the new version of Emby Theater to be released soon? Last I heard it was still in alpha testing which was sometime ago. Just thinking ahead as I currently use Emby for WMC and will not be able to upgrade to Windows 10 as WMC is dead.

    Hello, I'm still thinking about updating from emby server version to … even if the old version runs on my Mac mini without any problem. Therefore I have some questions: 1) which macOS version do I need for emby Server Is High Sierra Version 10.13.6 still okay?. 2) I made many manual changes in the metadata of my emby library. Will they remain or go lost after an update to a newer server version? 3) I use emby only for music-streaming. Are there any new features (for example: integration of podcast or radio) in the new server version? Best regards zenobit06

    New version for Roku

    Anyone know if the Roku app is going to be updated soon? As far as I know its been quite a while for the one from the app store to get any form of update? I know there is a beta, but I want to run the production version rather than that. Nice to think there is a juicy update coming (like no MPEG2 transcoding on Roku stick) before Christmas. Thanks....
  15. hi my server in windows can't update plugins! it shows me emby updates without any problems. I have to update DLNA plugin from 1.0.31 to 1.0.33 manually. connected with a vpn, but problem is still alive! restarted emby and PC but doesn't work logs.zip

Hi Emby I've been a long time users - love your app. Quick question, I recently ran into a weird problem where my Emby Theatre showed a blank screen after launch by the screen saver worked perfectly. For some weird reason I could not get Emby Theater to show my library but I could connect via any other device and stream so the server was working perfectly. I then decided to reinstall and now Emby Theater looks quite different - with cut down options on the setting screen. Has something recently been overhauled? My current versions are:- Server - Windows Emby Theater 1 .1.257.0 The interface looks quite different with a big green block around each movie as you navigate. I also notice that the window in EMBY Theater has a white ribbon on the top - like it's in a window. Can that be removed as it looks horrible on my big screen (I'm running a PC into my LG TV) Thanks for the help - Rob
  17. Hello! I just have a question about updating my Synology NAS and if it is safe to update it to the new DSM 6.2.2-24922 update 2 with my Emby Server running on it. The DSM update was just released https://www.synology.com/en-us/releaseNote/DS918+ on the 4th of July. The only reason why I ask this is because I've updated, restarted, and shutdown my NAS is the past, and I've often gotten times where I could not run Emby after the update, restart, or shutdown was complete, but I don't know if it could have done something with this https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/73984-emby-on-synology-ds918-won’t-run-after-restart-shutdown/ that I posted a little while ago and solved the issue on. So, since my NAS just received the update as of today, despite it being released on the 4th of July, I have yet to download and install it because I want to know if it is safe to do so for Emby and my NAS so that I don't have the same problem like I did before in the past from the second link I shared above. Plus, what to do (precautions) before I download and install the update on my NAS for the Emby Server. Anything would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have been living with a "ghost" playlist issue for some time now (placed a m3u file in a lib folder, then deleted it, then added it back, and since the playlist contents have been "frozen"), so today decided to give a manual fix a try inspecting/manipulating the db directly. I think the root cause is that the record in the db does not have a path to the corresponding m3u file anymore Because of this I decided (after a db backup) to attempt both UPDATE and DELETE of the record, but in both cases I get back the error in the title... My experience with sqlite is non-existent, so I tried doing this from multiple clients (extenal dBeaver adapter, TNAS's pre-installed 'sqlite3' binary, and again using the TNAS's python + sqlite adapter), but the error is consistent. Hello, I've been using Emby for quite a while without any issues that would prevent me from watching videos, etc. However, after updating the server to the latest version ( on armv7 on Debian) there are some issues with video playback. Before the update, I was able to stream videos (H264 in MKV containers) without the need to transcode them. I am running the server on a RaspberryPi 3B, so transcoding would not be an option as it definitely can't happen in realtime (log attached). After the update, the videos somehow need to be transcoded in order to be played back properly. TranscodeReasons=ContainerNotSupported Why is there a flag set for mkv not being supported? Few lines higher: 2019-04-22 11:54:23.059 Info App: Profile: Unnamed, Path:*****.mkv, isEligibleForDirectPlay: True, isEligibleForDirectStream: True This would not be an issue if the transcoding was happening in realtime, but its not. I tried disabling hardware acceleration in the server settings, and yes, it did prevent the transcoding process from executing, the video did start, but it was choppy, it kept buffering after three seconds of playback, which I suppose was playing OK before updating. Note that I obviously tried playing different files, with similar results. I have to note that I am using an app remotely, yes, connections both on the server and client side are an another variable in the process, but I highly doubt it could have such an impact, this wasn't happening before. I'll test it in a few days using local connection and post the result here. Attaching emby and ffmpeg logs (I replaced my IP with some text for safety reasons). Thanks for the help. --Edit: I've found some older logs from previous server version, the transcode flag was still set, but it wasn't transcoding the file but "StreamTranscode".   20. Hi Guys Just updated my emby server. Have now got a few problems with Emby/ ALexa/ Synology418 Problem 1 - Emby no longer recognises any of my artists -( all music named and tagged correctly and previously no problems) For example I ask play music by the Eagles the answer is "I could not find Eagles" - same for all artists. Problem 2 - Emby is given a command and then asks is there anything else and does not follow command. For example Emby play some music - silence for a few seconds then Emby asks "is there anything else" .Then shuts down. If you say yes - just repeats the question "is there anything else" in a loop Problem 3 - When asked to play an album - states the album and the artist( despite not being able to access by artist request) plays the first song and then stops. Problem 4 - Wont recognise a speaker until skill disabled and then re enabled Problem 5 - Reinstalled Emby server - Library very slow to access or search.....takes up to 10 mins to load library sometimes and then a search command can take just as long......(Good wifi, high speed internet, computer using windows 10 upto date and functioning normally) All software updated to latest versions. It was very difficult to find the Library path on reinstall as the old path would not connect. Other problems with connectivity - ie getting "cannot access your emby skill" or "server timed out try again' responses much more often........ has led me to cancel my Premiere subscription for the moment as Emby/ Alexa combination not useable. I cant seem to find the glitch /problem.

    Hi, I tried several times to update to latest update (WINDOWS), is successfully download the update, then it tells me to restart EMBY, I restart is shows me a message that sucessfully installed latest update, but in the corner of the APP still see the old version I restart again EMBY and again it tells me there is a new version to update.   22. So today I went through all of the menus looking for the bandwidth limit that I believe used to be in Advanced or may Transcoding. It now appears to have disappeared from one of the recent updates. Is it hidden in a new menu somewhere? The reason I ask is because I just upgraded from 50/50mbps internet to 1/1gbps and I want to adjust from the value that I previously had set.

Since joining Emby last December, I have spent a lot of time organizing my media libraries, including correcting any mis-'identify' linking, updating metadata, and even setting custom "sort as" information to organize my libraries. Then the previous media server updated versions came out, I installed the new server version, and to my dismay, all of that custom information and work was lost! as the server restarted and essentially ran what looked like a fresh scan and link process. So much work and time, gone in an instant. I suspect that there's a way for me to help ensure this doesn't happen again, before I install the latest update. I appreciate any guidance or tips to help ensure that I don't make this same mistake again. I did find the 'lock this metadata' near the bottom of the metadata screen for each individual piece of media - is that sufficient to select to preserve my inputs? Or is there more to be done.   24. I am completely devastated here. My Emby Server upgraded to v4 last night (something I have really been looking forward to). Now it seems like a majority of my locally created metadata (mainly for my extensive Music Video library) is completely gone!!?? The paths are pointing to the right location where the data was before and after the upgrade. I have tried to re-assign the paths again and then run several new library scans with no change. I have restarted the pc and the Emby Server several times. Now I am getting a slight panic attack that the YEARS of tagging all these videos with actors, composers and directors is forever gone! And since there is no Metadata supplier to talk of, it is not possible to quickly re-create. What can I possibly do?   25. Hi, Any of you that have read some of my posts (or maybe rants ) may have realized I'm not real happy with the Asustor updates coming from App. Central. But thanks to a fellow Asustor user lllrinzlerlll , he has let me know a way to keep your Asustor version up-to-date and not have to put up with the atrocious versions we are subjected to. Have heard that Admin Luke is trying to get Asustor to change the way they write the updates or maybe make them ourselves but til then this is the way a few of us are doing it. We are copying the Mono Linux version over what is installed on the NAS. - just go to - https://github.com/M...releases/latest , select Emby.Mono.zip release. When you unzip the Mono version, you will notice in step 5/6 that it's the same files and structure as what you already have. (Would strongly suggest you make a backup copy of this whole section from your NAS - FIRST - just in case it doesn't work or it goofs in some way. That way you can just copy it all back over the top of the original files/folders. Once you've done it once and worked, keep a copy of the last update, just in case the new one isn't liked, you can always just copy it back over the new files and keep using the previous version.) If you haven't already enabled SSH, then open Services, goto Terminal and enable the SSH service. Usually uses port 22. How to install - 1. On the NAS log into Emby and click shutdown, then in Asustor App Central disable Emby 2. Download Emby.Mono.zip to a PC and unpack the zip file to a folder 3. Download and install WinSCP to a PC 4. In WinSCP create an FTP connection with your NAS, you will need to know the IP address, a user and password and have FTP or SFTP enabled in the NAS under settings, FTP is normally port 21 and SFTP is normally port 22 (you will see port number in WinSCP when creating a connection, sometimes its autofilled) 5. In the WinSCP remote window navigate to volume1/@.plugins/AppCentral/mediabrowser/bin (if you cant see @.plugins then you need to enable view hidden files in WinSCP) 6. In the WinSCP local window navigate to where you have the Emby Server unpacked 7. You can highlight all local files and drag them across to the remote path 8. Once complete (for me it took around 10 seconds), you can disconnect your WinSCP session 9. Go back to Asustor App Central and re-enable Emby 10. Give it a minute and then log into Emby, you should be running the latest Linux version you downloaded from the Emby site The benefit of this is Asustor has no idea you have upgraded the system and thinks its running the latest version from the Asustor servers. As long as you don't upgrade Emby from App Central and do it this way every time you will be fine. You can update Emby whenever a new Linux version is available on the Emby site Doing it this way only upgrades the Emby version and doesn't touch the rest of your files (where your metadata is etc). However make sure your not overriding any folders etc where your settings are saved. ------------------------- If any of this is beyond your understanding or you are not comfortable with zip files, copying files via an FTP style program or getting your "hands dirty" in the files section of your NAS, then please don't do it, get someone who is comfortable doing it, and knows what they are doing. ------------------------ The instructions are a direct copy from an email lllrinzlerlll sent me and yes it does work, so thank you very much lllrinzlerlll for all your help.
