  1. As i just lost my entire typescript -- Emby server is quite often sluggish and unresponsive. May show libraries on the home page of the web app, but nothing else. If it shows the libraries, it will show nothing inside them more often than not. Lots of time with the spinner. Similar issues with the Roku, iOS, and Android apps. I've very occasionally been able to watch or listen to things, but even when I can get into a library and get it to display items, the library is usually incomplete. Artist sorts in music return either endless spinner, or very partial results. As I recently added two libraries, I'm loathe to execute a restart (it's grindingly slowly towards 100% on those two.) If I can get a response on the web app or the iOS or Android app, I can sometimes cast to the Roku app on the TV. embyserver.txt embyserver-63671356800.txt
  2. So, in the next few months, my wife and I have decided to purchase a new PC to base our media server out of, but I do have a few questions about server migration, backup, and a few other things. 1.) Will my Emby Premiere Key work on this new server, on a new machine, or do I have to purchase a new subscription? 2.) What does the backup plugin backup? Metadata? <--Working on doing everything manually through .nfo files and individual image files to make it easier for maintenance. 3.) How complex will this migration be? (i.e. Will I have to re-configure all User-based information such as Collections, log ins, profile pictures? Or will all of this be erased?) 4.) Where should I route this back up to? How much storage would it take up (on average, if anyone knows)? Just curious as to if a simple 16gb USB will be enough (probably.) Anyways, if anyone can answer these questions, this would be awesome! Thanks.

    OSS Contributions

Hi. I'm a Plex refugee who is looking to contribute to an OSS media server platform so that instead of waiting for features I feel are important, I can be a bit more proactive. Is Emby Open Source? I see there is a GitHub repository (https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby) with GPL licensing. It doesn't seem to have recent contributions, however. I'd be interested in contributing to the Server, and the Android mobile and TV apps. Thanks!
  5. Ever since the last couple updates my server is crashing every 5-10 minutes. I deleted all plugins, but I think it may be something else. I attached the logs... Help improving server performance

I have been running an emby server for about 2 years now. Love the platform and am an emby premier subscriber. I am looking to improve the performance of my emby interface have it be web or app. Currently my emby will have random hangs with a spinning loading circle when just loading content or using the search function has a good couple of seconds before it begins to populate anything. I currently run a workstation with 2 xeon e5 2660, 128gb ddr3 ecc all on a gigabit network with FiOS gigabit 940/880mbps internet connection. I have multiple hard drives installed all minimum 7200rpm. (Users at a given time range from 1-6, the amount of users using does not seem to have an effect as to weather or not I experience the slow hangs) My current emby server runs on a windows server 2008 virtual machine on VMware workstation with 16gb of ram and 16 processing threads dedicated to the VM on a dedicated 7200rpm spinning disk with one of my 5 gigabit nics dedicated specifically to the VM and nothing else. (I have a 120gb SSD installed not in use that I was considering using as a cache drive but am posting here to see if that's the best use). As for my storage I have 2 Netgear readynas raid 5 arrays setup content storage on a network share mapped to the emby server and their gigabit nics are bonded for 2 gigabit total throughout (have tried unbonding and testing performance to see if it caused the hangs and it does not). I also recently purchased an hdhomerun prime and set it up for live TV through emby. I noticed the tv guide and channel population and selecting the channels is very slow even on good connections. (hdhomerun is also connected via gigabit) tried having tuner transcoding on and off, doesn't seem to make a different in speed. My networking equipment are some Netgear unmaneged gigabit gs switched leading into a ubiquiti unifi 8 port managed switch and a unifi usg firewall as my main router/firewall. Given my current setup, is there something that could be configured wrong or that I could improve to increase the performance of my server ? (I apologize for any typos. Typed this up on my phone)

    Question about my SSL cert

Hello all, A friend of mine reached out to me the other day to let me know that they could no longer connect to my emby server. It had been running fine, so I was puzzled. When I went and looked at the settings, it turns out that the server no longer appears to be running over HTTPS, only on HTTP. I don't even see any option for HTTPS other than under Expert->Advanced where I can set the external HTTPS port. I am currently on the 3.5 beta. Everything works fine right now on HTTP, but I would much prefer to be running over HTTPS again. Anyone have any thought or suggestions? Thanks! N

    Server stürtzt unregelmäßig ab

  9. Hi, I am new to emby but I have a question / feature request. I have 2 emby server a) home nas company nas Is there a way of mapping the both together, so that I don't have to switch all time the server and that I have kind of a global search on both servers? Or how do you resolve this? Please tell me that this feature exists, and how to use thanks in advance
  10. Hey, During a library scan, Emby decided to freeze up. My steps were to restart the server, which I probably shouldn't have, and then that froze up. I closed out of all the windows and it won't boot up my dashboard. Any tips? Thanks. - Arly

    Mass-Select Content

Hey, Organizing items into specific collections w/o plug-ins. I have been able to mass-select before, just have no idea how I got there. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. - Arly
  12. Hi, I missed a movie on TV recently, and it's likely to be re-run at some point. However, I can "only" search for keywords in current tv guide. It could be cool if I could create a "wish list", which Emby scanned for when updating guide info. Then there could be a push message, pop-up, email, icon, or other way of notifying the user that a keyword on his/her search list has come up. Thanks - Jennice
  13. My Emby server is setup on an UNRAID server with the Emby created docker. It constantly loses the thumbnail images in the Next Up category. I can re-add them and in a day they are gone. It would appear these are not saved with the media on the server as are other images? What do I need to do to correct this issue, it has become quite annoying Thanks... Will
  14. I have an old show encoded in XVID inside AVI containers. When I DirectPlay them on a device that supports AVI/XVID, they play fine, but if transcoding kicks in then the video turns into a garbled pixelated mess with tons of macroblocking. The audio sounds fine. This happens on all devices when transcoding. 15. Hello All. I currently have a Emby Server on Windows 10. I have it pretty much how I want. I use Storage Spaces with a handful of drives. I want to dual boot my PC with Fedora or Linux Mint and also set up my Server on it as well. This server will have its own drive but it will have the same data as the other. The perfect situation is that no matter which system I boot into, Emby is running fine in the background. I have just downloaded an add-on app to save my server settings. I have a copy of those settings on my new drive. So, I am needing some help on how to migrate these settings from a Windows 10 install to either a fedora/Linux Mint install. Is there a guide, link, or walk through that will show me what to do? The hardest part about setting up a new server is getting everything just right. I would like to make that not as difficult, especially adding the users again. Thanks!

    International Viewing.

Hey, So, context to my situation, I am in the process of immigrating to Canada via USA. I have set a server up at a location in the United States (this unit will move to Canada within six months from now) & want to view my content from Canada through my Xbox One. Is it possible to access a server located in the USA from Canada?
  17. Hi, I am a new user (came from Plex). Just got an Apple TV and downloaded the app on the Apple TV and on my Mac. The server is on a hard-drive connected to my Mac. I am trying to access the server through Emby from my Apple TV and it is showing the screen Welcome to Emby. Inserted photo. I went through the Enter server Address. ( I tested it on another computer PC - worked just fine). And it does not even show an error screen just loops back to the same "welcome to Emby". I have checked my LAN setting on the Apple TV and reset them, nothing is working. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Holly
  18. Bug: Image Fetcher settings are not saved if other edits have been made and not saved first. Workaround is to manage the Image Fetchers BEFORE making any other changes Severity: Important/High OS/Apps Effected: Server (via Web) OS/Apps Effected relates to hardware that I have access too. If it doesn't state other OSes, it's not that it doesn't exist, rather it's that I don't have the hardware to check for it.
  19. One of the remote users on my server has been reporting freezing and stuttering quite often despite waiting for the transcode to reach 100%. It has happen across several different movies. It will play fine for some time but after 10-30 minutes the movie will freeze and it will never stutter and freeze from that point on. The movie is always 100% transcoded before playback begins and both of our speeds are quite sufficient for streaming and we experience no problems on any other sites. Were mainly using the web interface and google chrome for the remote user to play movies but have tried using embycon for kodi and experienced the same problem but much worse (froze every 2 minutes). I've tried enabling and disabling hardware acceleration as well as limiting the bitrate. In the past we've had success using 1080p 5mbps and waiting 30-45 minutes before playback. Now with the same settings were experiencing way more problems. Not quite sure what more i can try.
  20. Hey all, I haven't used emby since this time last year, was curious how the development on using the nvidia shield as a server has been. A few question I have are: When a new server update come out is it pushed to the android platform as well? How well does hardware acceleration work? How is overall performance people have experience while using the shield as their server? Thank you for the replies!
  21. Hi, I've been using Emby for at least month on a temporary server and now consider buying premiere sub, there are some movie collections though that I configured myself, creating custom images, thumbs, description, etc. Will those images and descriptions carry over (if I have premiere sub) when I install Emby server on a dedicated linux server (using the same hdd, but obviously different os) and do backup and restore? OCD kinda kicks in and I really like how I organize my files. Thank you.
  22. I like listening to my music through my roku/emby setup. However, I don't need to know how the artist is while listening. I was wondering if there is some way to set up a virtualization like on windows media player? I can wait and my roku will go to it's screen saver, but I would like to make a choice. Or even display the lyrics on screen, all of my music files have the lyrics embedded.

    what is "Download & Sync"?

I installed the latest beta and it may be a coincidence but emby has been filling a sync folder with 10GB of something. This folder is on my root disk which is not meant to hold data and is only 32GB. I looked through the server management pages and could not find anywhere to set this folder's location. I saw a management section called Download and Sync. It had one strange entry with thousands of something. I deleted that entry and hopefully my problem will go away. What does Download and Sync mean? I do all my downloading myself and put the downloads in my media folders.
  24. I'm running the emby server on my ubuntu 16.04 server. It has worked well a long time. I just did a "service emby-server restart" and I got a crash that looks like this ... $ service emby-server status ● emby-server.service - Emby Server is a personal media server with apps on just about every device. The report-a-problem guide doesn't help. What should I try next?

    Emby Server 3.4

Hello, I noticed that this release did not appeared on the RPM Repo.
