Hey! Having the almost exact same problem. Win 11 Pro, Emby Windows App 2.219.2.0. Some music files simply do not start. And I have the same format on all my music files, flac. All encoded with the same software. Files play fine in other players. Also, no error message. Nothing happens at all when trying to start playing.

Since the last update or two I've been having issues with using Emby Windows app to play music. Background: I use emby on my work PC to play music while I'm working. Normally this consists of just picking a playlist and clicking the "shuffle" button for that playlist, then adjusting the emby player volume to a rather low volume. After that I leave it playing in the background (window open on an extra monitor, but not in focus). Occasionally I'll use the basic play/pause and skip buttons on my keyboard as needed, but I haven't noticed any correlation between this and the issues I'm having. Admittedly because I'm just using it for background music, I don't always notice right away, so I can't confidently say how many songs it gets through. But it is a very regular occurrence for me to realize my music is no longer playing, and when I check the emby app it either paused exactly at the beginning of a song, or the player has closed altogether (leaving my back on that playlist page). If it is just paused, I can get the next song to start by manually hitting play and it will work like nothing ever happened, but that solution is only temporary until the next pause or crash. Interestingly enough, I don't recall that I've ever had it happen when I manually skip a song, only when a song finishes and it goes to start the next one. On some rare occasions it does do the random pause in the middle of a song, but those are much more rare. The above issue seems to be limited to the Windows app, I don't experience this problem in the browser interface, android app, or roku app.

How to convert "imported" playlists into "native" emby playlists, that show up in "Add To Playlist" listing:
RLanger7228 posted a topic in General/Windows
When you try to add new items to playlists "imported" to Emby as m3u files, they do not show up in the "native" Emby playlists listing as options to add to. Apparently, only playlists actually created within Emby will allow you to add new material to them. "imported" playlists CAN be converted into "native" playlists by adding an "imported" playlist to a newly created playlist. Emby will add all the items from the "imported" playlist to the newly created "native" playlist, then the old "imported" playlist file can be deleted. The specific steps are outlined below: I navigated to HOME>MUSIC>PLAYLISTS, where all the "imported" & "native" playlists appear together (Master Listing). I selected one of the "imported" playlists, then clicked the ellipsis (...) to get to the "Add To Playlist" option. From the "Add to Playlist" screen, I created a new playlist. I had to repeat the navigation from home>music>playlists to get the new playlist to show up, but there it was! it had the same number of items & in the same order. The new PlayList also now shows up in the "Add To Playlist" listing! However, there are now 2 versions of the same playlist showing up in the Master Listing. I had added a custom description to the Metadata of the "imported" playlist. It was a simple matter to edit the "imported" playlist metadata, copy the description, edit the new "native" PlayList Metadata & paste the description, then Save. Since I couldn't delete the "imported" playlist from within Emby (separate question in another post), I went to File Station on my NAS & moved the PlayList.m3u file to a non-Emby-Indexed folder (effectively deleting it from Emby, while keeping a copy). I had to Re-Scan the music library to get Emby to recognize that it had been removed. When I went back to the Master Listing I saw that the "imported" version of the playlist was gone & the new "native" playlist remained, with the same content. I was concerned that deleting the original playlist would also remove the items from the new playlist, since the "source" was removed. However, apparently Emby imported the individual items from the original to the new playlist, so the new playlist remained intact when the original was deleted. Voila!- 10 replies

A sleeptimer function for audiobooks and music would be great (also for tv series, but thats a different thing). For audiobooks its actually quite essential to be able to set a timer to not have to struggle to find the point of falling asleep again the next day... Without that the audiobooks function seems quite useless to me atm. It's nothing else than just playing one long song atm. For music it would be a nice additonal feature too.

The audio player in the iOS app is very buggy, with many visual issues and QoL issues which make listening to music an unpleasurable experience Device: iPhone 15 Pro Max OS : iOS 18.1 Beta 2 Emby server/app version: latest as of post Below is a video of my experience with the audio player in the emby app, issues visualised are: Flickering boxes behind UI elements, Low quality backdrop image (my suggestion would be a lot of blur here) low quality playing animation on current track in queue page UI not taking up full screen space, empty area above album art, could accommodate larger player controls if album art is moved up Other issues I’ve faced: Some playback issues with slow LTE speeds, which could be solved with better caching/pre-downloading Losing song progress when disconnected Thanks for reading ScreenRecording_08-17-2024 13-52-35_1.mov

As the Android TV app is being deprecated in favor of the Android app, I've been trying to determine if my favorite features are or will be supported. One of the features in the Android TV app which I have come to really like is when playing music after 1 minute of no user input, the currently playing song's album art is displayed with the song info (i.e. title, artist, and album) underneath and artist art rotating background. The clock is in the upper right, timer/total song time in the lower left, and the playlist position (current #/total) in the lower right. When the user selects "next" (by simply hitting the remote's right arrow button) the next song begins with the same display configuration. Simple, elegant, and yet useful. This is not the playlist view which contains many more options. As far as I can tell, this (exact) display feature does not appear to be available in the Android app. The Android app seems to have something similar (i.e. playlist toggle). Yet it's different because all of the player options (e.g. previous, pause, stop, next, mix, repeat, settings) remain visible, the app's background (e.g. "Blue Radiance") leaks through and washes out the artist art, and the remote's right arrow button doesn't advance to the next song. Is there a way for the Android app to currently match the Android TV app music player display feature(s)? Would these (hiding player options and right arrow advancing the playlist) be new feature requests? Would the background and artist art clash be considered an "issue" to be fixed?

Adding music to Emby, it is particularly difficult to organise Albums/Artist. It would be incredibly helpful if multi-select Albums/Artists adds the ability to bulk edit metadata like tags, artist name, album name and cover art.

Hallo an Alle!

How can Emby "integrate" or gain "access" to imported PlayList.m3u files?
RLanger7228 posted a topic in General/Windows
I migrated my iTunes music over to Emby. Maintaining the same folder/sub-folder structure made importing the playlists I created in iTunes relatively easy: I only had to change the ROOT of the file path to match the NAS. The imported playlists show up in my playlist listing and work as expected when playing music. (see link @ end of this post for steps) I received a large chunk of new music files from an old friend. His music collection also contained many playlist.m3u files that I would not necessarily like to include in MY playlist listing. However, when I tried to delete the unwanted playlists from within emby, Emby told me that access to the file path was denied (see screenshots). I was able to go to FileStation on my NAS & delete the m3u file outside Emby, but I couldn't delete it within Emby. Frustrating & tedious. Another issue I discovered when trying to add some of the new music to some of the playlists I had imported from my iTunes was that the imported playlists do NOT show up in the listing when I select a song (navigating through the FOLDERS option) and try to Add To Playlist. None of the imported playlists sho up in that listing. It only shows the playlists that I actually created within Emby, not ANY of the imported playlists. Is there a way to get the imported playlists included in the Add To Playlist listing? Is there a way to allow Emby to delete an imported playlist? Alternatively, might there be a way to "import" an imported playlist into a "native Emby" playlist? Steps to import playlists from Apple Music to Emby: -
Recently I have been having an issue when trying to start playback on a Sonos device from one of my playlists (other playlists work fine). I select the Sonos device to Play On, navigate to the playlist, then click either play or shuffle. If I have the Sonos app open, I see that an item from the playlist has been selected on the Sonos device, but it doesn't begin playing it. Emby doesn't show the playback controls for the Sonos either. If I click on the play button in the Sonos app, it begins playing fine, so it's not having trouble accessing the media, and I can use the skip button to go to the next item in the playlist. In the Emby log it shows an error. I have attached the relevant portion of the log. Again...other playlists work fine; Sonos begins playing and the playback controls appear in Emby. It's just the one playlist giving me trouble. Any help would be appreciated. Emby Server Log.txt

I have been using the finamp app for jellyfin and I think emby needs to create its own or even clone this as jellyfin comes from emby's code so should not be too hard I believe. The reason I am writing this is because emby needs a separate music app which me and others have been requesting for a long time and even though finamp is not complete it has been great for daily use compared to the full emby and jellyfin apps. Thanks

I'd like to put in a request for a server-side Equalizer. It would incredible useful if it were applied on a User basis - Ex. I could set up multiple User profiles, point them at their corresponding libraries, and switch between users for the EQ I wanted to apply to the output. I prefer a Parametric EQ if possible. The reason being is, that many people use EQ correct frequency response errors for both Room and Speakers and the precision of a Parametric is essential for proper tuning. I'm aware that this will probably require transcoding on the server in order to apply it. However, that particular task isn't CPU intensive and Emby already does transcoding on occasion anyway. Kind regards, Bill

Hi everyone. I've been a long time subsonic user and I'm considering switching over to emby. I've got my server set up and I've been using for a few days. I wanted to test it out before I spring for premiere. I'm running into some issues and have some questions I'm hoping more seasoned users can answer. 1.) it seems as though the queue is not maintained after the app is closed. If I leave it pause too long and it closes in the background, my play queue is gone. I am using the free version so maybe that's a function of premiere? 2.) it seems like song files are deleted immediately after playing the song. Is there a way to have it keep a certain amount? On Subsonic You can set the cache limit and it will keep that many songs. So you always have some available for offline listening. I see that with premier access you can manually download songs. But is that the only way to have them available offline? 3.) Is there no way to customize the context menus? There's a lot of options that I could do without and it would really clean it up. Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks!

I think this would be a nice feature to have. Maybe something similar to how windows media player handles this and the admin user can edit just by clicking on stars next to song. This would be easier and faster than having to go into metadata and change for every song you want to rate. This can be useful for smart playlists. If ten stars is too much then use five and have half a star counts as 1.

Today I thought how nice it would be if I could start playing music on one device (e.g. computer #1), and then when I move around (like to computer #2, or somewhere where I only have my phone), I pause on the 1st device and then resume the now playing queue on the other device. But it appears one device has no awareness of what was playing on another device. Any chance of adding such a feature or option? I don't know how common of a use case this would be, but I've never been one to do much with music in Emby, and this kind of feature would probably make a big difference in choosing Emby for listening to my music.

Hello together, i want to switch from plex to emby, bought a life time premiere pass to make sure not to miss anything. Now i want to import my directories. I added emby user to the old plex directories on the synology level. So far so good. I am able to import all files. But, right now, i really have problems with my ripped audio books and cds. In all imported directories i added cover.jpg files. But somehow, especially with audiobooks, the images are not detected or at least not shown in my library. For showing audiobooks i open my audiobook library and switch to the books panel. Here i dont see any images. On the other hand: if i switch to the folder/diretory tab, there i see the directories with images. Here are some examples: Also in the music libs there are some pictures not detected or shown. Here its only 10%, Audiobooks are 95%. I tried to play with the settings of the lib, but actually i dont know with setting is the best. I assume, usually images in the directories should be taken first, only if there is no image it tries to look up in the internet? Is it a problem if the albums are not detected? But again, i would assume, it would take local pictures first. Additionally it seems like the feature for saving images in the media folder doesnt work. I tried to upload images in the emby gui but the uploaded images didnt show up in the local media folder of the album. I read the naming convention stuff, i waited until the scan was complete (no green bar anywhere anymore). Maybe someone is able to help here?

Artist name differing artist folder name results in two artists listed
elektrokokke posted a topic in General/Windows
Hi! First of all, Emby has been a very nice experience for me so far. Never regretted purchasing premium. I have, however, one small problem which is sometimes bothering me. I though I'd try and ask, maybe there is a fix. I am using Emby for music exclusively. My folder structure is artist/album/track. However, special characters in artist names and album name I replace with underscores for their folder name, including spaces. For example: "...And you will know us" results in a folder name "_And_you_will_know_us". As a result, i have two artists in the artists list, one for the correct artist name which is in the tracks' metadata, and one for the folder name (shown in all uppercase). The folder name artist is showing the correct artist art, but the artist with the metadata tag name is not. Also, in the metadata tag name artist (i.e., the one with the correct name) does not have any albums associated, instead all albums are listed only under the "appears on" list (I use it in German, where it is called "Erscheint auf"). I would really like to see only the correct artist name, and have the albums and artwork associated correctly, and I want to avoid having to change the artist metadata to conform to valid folder names. Is there a way to achieve that? What I find strange is that for albums, this problem does not occur, despite me using the same name to folder mapping. Thanks for any help on this! -
When navigating from Album Artist / Artist / Composer detail pages to Tag pages, using the Tags links in the About section near the bottom of the pages, the subsequent Tag pages do NOT show all the relevant tags. I first found this by trying to associate an Album Artist with a Composer, by using a common tag for the two items. I’ve since tried this with several different item combinations, with various tag names, and still get the same results. Here’s a wider test example, showing the extent of the problem, with every item type I can think of tagged with “Test Tag”. With Emby 4.8.8.0, when navigating: Tags Menu tab>Tag: the relevant Album / Album Artist / Artist / Collection / Composer / Folder / Playlist / Song tagged items are all shown Search>Tags>Tag: the relevant Album / Album Artist / Artist / Collection / Composer / Folder / Playlist / Song tagged items are all shown Album detail page>Tag: the relevant Album / Album Artist / Artist / Collection / Composer / Folder / Playlist / Song tagged items are all shown Song detail page>Tag: the relevant Album / Album Artist / Artist / Collection / Composer / Folder / Playlist / Song tagged items are all shown Album Artist detail page>Tag: only the Album Artist / Artist items are shown Artist detail page>Tag: only the Album Artist / Artist items are shown Composer detail page>Tag: only the Album Artist / Artist items are shown This first picture shows the expected complete results Tag page. This second picture shows the limited partial results Tag page. Digging a bit deeper, it seems that the two views are different pages: http://localhost:8096/web/index.html#!/list/list.html?tagId=569744&serverId=437bcbdb674e44df85900dde5a8e73ba http://localhost:8096/web/index.html#!/list/list.html?tagId=569744&serverId=437bcbdb674e44df85900dde5a8e73ba&type=MusicArtist They also have different Sort By, Filters and Settings options available from the Menu. Hopefully this has been explained well enough. Why are the Tag results pages designed to be different, depending upon the preceding starting page? Is this an error that can be fixed please or perhaps I am doing something wrong with my tagging? With the limited results navigating, it means that Tags cannot be used effectively to set up quick easy cross-referencing between Album Artists / Artists / Composers. At a minimum, the limited results Tag pages should also include Composers. Thanks!

Hi, I've been going through my flac collection and cleaning up the incorrect metadata directly in the files. I ended up adding missing genres to a lot of the files. After doing this I then copied all my music across to my server and rescanned the library, but none of the newly added genres are shown. I also noticed that in cases where I had changed the genre, the old genre is still displayed for those albums and the new one is ignored. I have the genre display limit set to five, so it shouldn't have any problems displaying multiple genres for each album. Any idea where I might be going wrong? Is there a simple way to get Emby to refresh the genres from the tags embedded in the flac files? Thanks, Dylan

Music Album/Track/Artist - Local Image Importer (not embeded images)
mickle026 posted a topic in Plugins
This is currently for testing purposes only - use at your own risk Use on a test library before even attempting to use on your main server. Plugin For Albums in their own folders ! Emby doesnt seem to be able to do this correctly , every track gets the first ones scanned embedded image. Unless i am doing it wrong. ?? But doing it this way it makes absolutely no difference what the embeded images are or what emby does or doesnt do, you are in control. Use it with realtime scanning then you dont have to mess with embys metadata editor, only to loose all the settings if i have to redo anything. You can drop an artist image in the folder or a track Image (I use singles cover images for the tracks- i like them that way) and it just adds it when RTM picks up a change, or a refresh metadata happens. So the EXAMPLE album cover is the 1977 one but the track covers are all different Its a local Metadata Reader , so it scans the local directory when any metadata refresh happens or library scan happens. Set settings in Library Edit screen. It doesnt use embeded images, it looks for an image with the same name as the track name I dont think I ever publically posted it before??? - probably because I never officially finished it! I cannot remember but I think they can be in subfolders too. Anyway it scans the local directories for song track covers, album covers and artist images. - nothing embeded! (supports jpg/gif/png/bmp/webp/tiff) Album covers will be Poster.jpg Cover.jpg Front.jpg folder.jpg 1.jpg 0.jpg f.jpg filename-front.jpg filename-poster.jpg R-xxxxxxxxxxxx.jpg // this one is for directly downloaded discogs R- filename images Artists are the same but name can be hyponated, underscored etc, probably can be in a sub folder. Rod Stewart.jpg Rod-Stewart.jpg Rod_Stewart.jpg Song Tracks Must be the same as the mp3 filename, but with a different extension Album cover backdrops are also supported by the plugin *-backdrop*.jpg *-background*.jpg *-landscape*.jpg *-fanart*.jpg backdrop*.jpg background*.jpg landscape*.jpg fanart*.jpg As it assigns the local image, beware that if you remove the image in emby it will probably remove the image from the drive (I cannot exactly remember if it does or not). I know it just returns a result to emby, so it probably depends on your settings within emby. if you are on windows and want to extract your embeded album art you can create a batch file and use ffmpeg (copy them both to the album directory and run it) Batch file contents - for jpg extract from mp3s for %%f in (*.mp3) do ffmpeg.exe -i "%%f" -an -vcodec copy "%%~nf.jpg" Anyway you are welcome to try it (as always with my plugins - try at your own risk) If you do try it, create a test library first becuase I have not tested the Album backdrops work correctly! - they should... Still to do... whenever I can be bothered. Make a config screen so you can dissable the logging - sorry its just on for now! LocalAlbumCoverImporter.zip Fixed Artist Import Throwing Errors into Emby Main log, and now only scans the current directory (test code was looking in all directories that the artist existed on tracks) LocalAlbumCoverImporter-12.09.2024.zip -
Emby server/client - ReplayGain or R128 volume normalization support for music
Espen JQ posted a topic in Feature Requests
@@Luke stated in a previous post (https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/49933-replaygain-music-support/) adding support for this could easily be done for at least the theater client seeing as the player used already supports replaygain. I'm making this feature request in hopes that this support is added, as I have no dev experience myself- 32 replies

I like listening to my music through my roku/emby setup. However, I don't need to know how the artist is while listening. I was wondering if there is some way to set up a virtualization like on windows media player? I can wait and my roku will go to it's screen saver, but I would like to make a choice. Or even display the lyrics on screen, all of my music files have the lyrics embedded.

Hello, I hope you are doing well. Sorry to bother you... I'm having an issue with my music, as you can see. I added a music album, and everything seems normal in my files, but Emby detects a duplicate for each track. They all work, and I don't understand what's going on. I am also providing my settings. Thank you very much in advance, and I wish you a wonderful day and a great start to the week !

When I play a song or a playlist the app hangs when I go into the now playing/play queue screen. If multiple songs are in the queue the app will play about 3-4 songs before it crashes and playback ceases. I am able to play media from my Android TV and web browser without any issues. Please let me know if you need additional details. Thank you! (I love Emby) ---- Server Version: Version 4.9.0.26 beta (Premiere) App Version: 3.4.11 Phone: Pixel 6 Pro Android Version: 14
