What about multi threaded scanning? I tried switching from plex, I have most of my media on a rclone mount and my library scan for let's say anime took 11 days to complete and watching logs it is only looking at one single file at a time, it will go from 0% to 90% in a few minutes but 91-100 takes over a week for me.. same scan using plex it's pulling 20+ files at once and the scan takes me about 2 days which is a huge difference.. is there any information on this or anything I can do differently?

Many settings did not import during a migration. The term Library in EMBY is confusing. I am referring to your main "System Library", with Multiple "User Libraries" Within. I have Multiple User TV Libraries. 1 being called "Completed Shows" that has many Series. Is there a way to "View Missing Episodes" On a User Library without looking at all TV Shows in All User libraries, or looking at each show individually? Reviewing the Metadata manager/Views/Missing Episodes, this will show you missing episodes for everything in all user libraries. When restoring library settings on a new computer all shows default to "File Order /Aired", where some need to be "File Order/DVD".

I am doing a fresh installation of Emby server and I don't understand why some library image folders are not generated. As example, Blu-Ray has not image but UHD 4K. Is there any way to force it or know why this happens? The installed server version is 4.8.5.0

And also comments over here: I admit I had left emby back in late 2019 - for that slow scan issue -- and then gave 4.8 a chance, but was no game changer. So here I'm in 2024, gone through some hoops to get Emby BETA 4.9.0.11 running on TrueNAS Core, but things are not flying. As of writing -- and I guess long before finished -- it's scanning 45min by now On the other hand I also just compiled Logitech Media Server(LMS) from ports. (for those who don't know, it's more a server/client system, with hardware endpoints like Squezebox Radios, not so much a "streaming to app" system) I only have on data source (_Music_HiRes) I use and its my CD collection, with many compilations of 2, 3,4 sometimes more discs and it's the same for Emby and LMS. The entire scan on LMS is done: It also has the Total Artists: 5,671 because of all those compilations. Actual Album Artists are 347 In a way I'm asking, if it is time to maybe add a different method to scan Librarys? One the user can simply select with "Just use my Tags and Images - no extra Metadata - Fast Scan/Less Metadata" Or, as Emby is what it is now, give an option "Don't collect Metadata for Artists in compilations - Fast Scan" (if this would help to scan faster) When you buy a compilation you get a cover and back you remember, not a booklet with 50+ pages for every Artist on that compilation AND that's just fine in my opinion! Hello, I just switched over from plex to emby because I got fed up with photo libraries. I thought to give emby a shot for photos only. I'm just performing an initial scan of my library (4500 videos, 72k photos). I noticed that emby is rather slow on this initial scan and it's mostly performing sequential video scan via ffmpeg. Is there any reason why this is not done in multiple parallel threads to speed up things? My server has 6 cores but is rather bored CPU-wise and also not exhausted I/O-wise. I believe it could handle 2-4 more parallel ffmpeg calls. kr

I believe that a lot of people like to put all the files witch related to TV shows in the same folder. Such as trailers or behind-the-scenes (about how to make the TV shows) documentary clips related to TV shows. Instead of just putting the TV show files into folders, this mode of storage could help to manage all the files related to the TV show. But I didn't want other files to be scanned into the media library as well, which would be a devastating blow to the visuals of the main page. So, can we just simply make a feature that excludes scanning of files in some specific folder path, or hide files in some specific folder from being scanned into the library? Just like the “TinyMediaManager” do while scanning the media library file. Thank you！！！

Hello fellow Emby Users, lately i encounter extreme loading times, when i open emby on web/mobile app/desktop app it takes 10 seconds easy to load all the preview. Same for searching or any click, it takes ages. Starting a video file sometimes can take up to 30-60 seconds. If i go into the Database Settings and vacuum the database on next start up and restart Emby, everything is blazing fast again as it should be. But pretty much as soon as i start a library scan it slows down pretty fast till it's not usable anymore. A library scan takes +18 hours in this state. The VM is installed on SSDs and runs Ubuntu 22.04 minimal version. I set up a new VM and installed Emby again but i run into the same issues. I am trying to troubleshoot this for a couple of weeks now but i sorta run out of ideas. For storage i use cloud storage mounted via rclone and image extraction off. The VM has 8GB ram and 8 cores of a i9-10850K CPU assigned which is plenty so there shouldn't be any bottleneck. I sadly can't tell when this issue starts if it came with a new Emby version or not since i've got this for a while and only occasionally bothered to check what could cause it, so i have it for a while. So, I've been just slowing chipping away at this PowerShell script I run every night to sync my server with some other drives and want to make an API request to scan the Emby library and call two other requests as well (Timelord Plugins). hello, i used to using emby for a year without problem, but recently 1 of my library cannot scans file after i adding a movie. i using rclone mount my 2 google teamdrive to system, and 2 teamdrive already add around 1 year. the 2 teamdrive i mount as below /mnt/mmcblk1p3/docker/emby/share1 teamdrive 1 /mnt/mmcblk1p3/docker/emby/share2 teamdrive 2 teamdrive 2 at emby have 2 different library same drive, the problem is 1 of library when i click scan library files, nothing is happen, while other 1 library is working as usual. both is same mount command from 1 drive. embyserver.txt

An option to label a library so that files in that library are played to end-of-file rather than up to the time-code captured in the most recent library scan would make the Live TV & DVR capability far more useful.

My current workflow as below: Radarr seek for movie -> sabnzbd / qbittorrent download movie -> radarr renamed movie and move to my library -> emby scan and update My file structure of my library as below: /movies /movie tile(year) /movie title (year) Bluray-1080p Proper DTS x264 The trouble was emby library scanner can’t recognize the files downloaded with nzb, but good with files downloaded with torrent. Hi, I'm fighting with a really strange permission issue since one of the last server updates in folder /volume3/AUDIO/ALEX there are almost 300 sub folders (each a different artist) again with multiple subfolders (1 per album) e.g. /volume3/AUDIO/ALEX /THE DARKNESS /[2012] Hot Cakes - 01. Every Inch of You.mp3 - 02. Nothin's Gonna Stop Us.mp3 - etc. although everything was working fine before I can now only see 7 albums in my "ALEX" library - for all other folders I'm getting a System.IO.IOException: Permission denied error (see log below) I already tried to completely remove emby server and installed it from scratch - even tried with a different user name and gave read/write permission for user embysvr to folder AUDIO but that didn't work out either any idea why the library scan is only working for 7 random folders but not for the rest? I noticed a big issue after the update/conversion - and the fix regarding them. First - The library scans for my TV shows were not functioning correctly. Upon digging into the issue I found that the metadata scrapers in each of the libraries were changed from my preset defaults to something else. MyAnimeList keyboard_arrow_up Proxer keyboard_arrow_up AniSearch keyboard_arrow_up AniList keyboard_arrow_up AniDB These 5 were placed above tvdb, etc - causing the metadata to grab the closest match in the anime world. IE: Instead of grabbing "The Curse of Oak Island" , it was grabbing "The Curse of Kazuo Umezu" ... I had to go into my library for the tv shows, turn on advanced, and change the level or uncheck each of these in order for the system to recognize the proper television series. This would have became a complete nightmare had I caught it later.... The thing that tipped me off towards this issue was getting the newest episode and the Auto Organize - giving a 'null' error - when in fact the data was on the TvDb website. So it appears that the upgrade to 4.0 effected a total wipe and rebuild of chapter images. Wow. I'm about 5 hours into a library scan with no end in sight. Not complaining, per se, but I was curious from the technical side what changes necessitated this. I know you rebuilt transcoding from the ground up. What changed in chapter images, etc.?

Hi, guys I think I found memory leak in the PhotoProvider. During a full library scan it always came to this one photo and stopped working. Just filled up the whole memory of the virtual machine and got slower all the time till the whole emby server stopped working. Tried different emby server version. At last the current beta: Version 3.6.0.84 beta. The "resolution" was to remove the image. Now it went through and completed the library scan without errors. The problematic image is attached. Hey, During a library scan, Emby decided to freeze up. My steps were to restart the server, which I probably shouldn't have, and then that froze up. I closed out of all the windows and it won't boot up my dashboard. Any tips? Thanks. - Arly

Hi All, My Pi3 is crashing on Emby's movie or TV library scan. Emby is not able to finish the activity (usually freezes around 70%) and I even lose SHH connection. To restart I have to unplug Pi. All files are on a ext4 external HDD with it's own power supply. I have performed a long fsck and HDD/data seems OK. I'm running on Version 3.2.19.0 on a clean (new) OSMC install and have used the official instructions to install Emby https://emby.media/c...l-instructions/ . Hi Developers, Would it be possible to add more control over the scheduled library scan to add the following function: If using network storage send ping to server name, if reply start scan, if no reply do not start scan and retry ping in xx (user inputs value in seconds) time. The driver for this request is for those of us who have Network attached storage and while at work set the network attached storage to standy or off (using WOL commands when someone starts WMC to auto power on the NAS or I send a manual wol from my iPhone or WOL addin to WMC if on the lounge room main unit which WMC is always running) for power saving while not in use the scheduled scan may occur and then display all media as "Offline" and all media art is lost until next successful scan. The NAS may not be woken by WOL from starting a WMC session as there are times when WMC may not get used each day making scheduling difficult

Hey Folks - Decided to devote a machine to solely running Emby Server. Performed fresh install of Windows 10 Home and Emby 3.2.1.0 yesterday - and both the Guide update and Media Library Scans are insanely slow now. Both seem to reach 50% in expected/usual times, but slow to a snails pace from that point on. This same machine had been running other things along with Emby Server without issue before the rebuild. (Emby 3.2.0.0 was installed before I wiped out everything on C: with KillDisk.) I've attached a log and resource screenshot - machine is barely in use, but there is error after error in the Log. It looks like Emby can't connect to external websites, but internet access from this machine is fine (and Emby is set wide open in the Firewall). I don't usually look at the logs, so don't know if these errors are normal or not. I am unsure if this is truly an external issue (maybe my fresh install of everything went wonky), or if maybe there is an issue with 3.2.1.0 (since there have been scan issues with releases in the past). Anyone else having this issue or has advice on a resolution? Thanks!

Hello, I just reinstall my Win10 and reinstall Emby. I put my share located on a synolgy, scan the library, all is ok. I test a movie it play fine. So i decided like always to start Emby by Services in automatic mode. Then no library access anymore, i have administration interface but scanning library is broken, no browsing movie, no picture. I restart Emby with AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\System\MediaBrowser.ServerApplication.exe All is ok again.... So starting Emby with services broke library Access. Any idea ?
