Glitching, stuttering and freezing on a handful of MKV BR rips
GothsterC posted a topic in General/Windows
I have a problem that I just noticed recently on some files created from BRs using MakeMKV. I have thousands of BRs and rips, so it is strange that it just happens with some. Upon playing these files through Emby (same results on Fire TV, Android Tablet, Roku and the Web interface, but it does seem to work properly on my Android phone), the playback starts glitching especially in scenes with more movement. Sometimes it freezes up completely. I've done a lot of testing and it seems to happen to just a few files. It doesn't appear to be the network, as I've played this locally using Ethernet. I've tried reducing the bit rate and resolution and even when I take it down to the lowest 480p option, the glitching still happens. It also appears to be behaving differently from network issues which I had in the past. The file itself seems fine as I can play it using VLC without any issues. I am running an up-to-date Windows server and the latest Emby. I've attached the logs including the transcode logs which shows I tried different bitrates. One of the movies causing problems is Sorority Row. I did notice that the transcode log has a message: Invalid track number 7, but as far as I can tell there is no Track 7, unless it is referring to the JPEG attachment. Thanks for any insights. ffmpeg-transcode-0d4728f1-eba2-4820-9332-7e71f8bd5d29_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-4ee49617-70d7-4d40-9369-2a00c7b64324_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-36f15056-936e-460d-b29b-5d0e0a603025_1.txt embyserver (5).txt- 20 replies

Took me a while to figure this out. Hope this helps others. I moved from Finland to Spain. Network in my new place was not what I was used to. Most of my 4K media became unwatchable. Turns out that some years back I had manually adapted my network speed settings in emby and now that network nolonger had 10Gbit connectivity my larger files did not play well. If you are suffering from similar issues check emby APP settings. (Up right corner.)

emby not closing previous stream, 2 instances in ffmpeg, freezing
eeeeeesy posted a topic in Live TV
Live TV: emby for android tv not closing previous stream leading to 2 instances in ffmpeg is causing freezing playback and unnecessary streams playing in the background on my emby server for windows when usiing emby for android tv on regular android on the beelink gtking device. i created my own channels coming from my plex library linked to dizquetv which feeds to xteve, which feeds to emby all through ffmpeg. my channels are freezing because there are 2 instances of channels playing in ffmpeg coming to the same feed, so the previous channel is not getting killed properly. i know this because when i look in the plex dashboard i can see my previously playing show or movie is still playing even though i changed the channel. also when i close the stream i see in ffmpeg console that there is still a stream playing. so what the dev needs to do is in your play command you need to add the kill stream command just before the play stream command to ensure the previous stream gets killed before every new stream. ffmpeg-transcode-f18f0329-33d5-4afe-ad7a-d7f84484af59_1.txtffmpeg-transcode-57368ead-6ec6-4039-9e1e-6bf4946376d6_1.txtffmpeg-transcode-44dcade5-6513-41ef-9393-f78c6803e93b_1.txtffmpeg-transcode-711e791b-4af1-4b49-8dfc-1483ca892e3f_1.txtembyserver.txt- 119 replies

Hi, All the video freezes every 30-40 seconds for a couple of seconds and then continue. I got 50mbps connection. Tried even the lowest quality, also tried on both my LG Smart TV (65SM9010PLA) and my Laptop, all the same. Emby server is installed on a remote Ubuntu 18 server with 1 cpu and 2GB of ram. I checked the resource usage, it does not even pass 10%. Server is fast enough, download/upload up to 700mbps with no issue. My ping to the server: C:\Users\me>ping xxx.xxx.145.229 -t Pinging xxx.xxx.145.229 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from xxx.xxx.145.229: bytes=32 time=78ms TTL=49 Reply from xxx.xxx.145.229: bytes=32 time=76ms TTL=49 Reply from xxx.xxx.145.229: bytes=32 time=75ms TTL=49 Reply from xxx.xxx.145.229: bytes=32 time=75ms TTL=49 Reply from xxx.xxx.145.229: bytes=32 time=75ms TTL=49 Reply from xxx.xxx.145.229: bytes=32 time=75ms TTL=49 Reply from xxx.xxx.145.229: bytes=32 time=76ms TTL=49 Reply from xxx.xxx.145.229: bytes=32 time=75ms TTL=49 Reply from xxx.xxx.145.229: bytes=32 time=75ms TTL=49 Reply from xxx.xxx.145.229: bytes=32 time=76ms TTL=49 Reply from xxx.xxx.145.229: bytes=32 time=75ms TTL=49 Reply from xxx.xxx.145.229: bytes=32 time=75ms TTL=49 Reply from xxx.xxx.145.229: bytes=32 time=76ms TTL=49 Reply from xxx.xxx.145.229: bytes=32 time=77ms TTL=49 Ping statistics for xxx.xxx.145.229: Packets: Sent = 14, Received = 14, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 75ms, Maximum = 78ms, Average = 75ms With transcoding enabled, I see "Media bitrate exceeds limit." error. Recently my Emby server (version 4.2.1.0) has been pausing and reloading some but not all video episodes in my library. I use roku, a homerun hd device for live tv and a secondary roku (older) in another room. The videos pause the loading message comes up after a few moments. I have switched rokus, replaced router and even the mobile apps do same thing. The live tv via emby freezes but the other roku apps are fine, no problems I did donwgrade one version to 4.2.0.40 but same issues. I am new to Emby, and I am having a reoccurring issue where my playback of a show (nightly local news) is pixilating and freezing. This has happened 2 nights in a row at nearly the same time during the recording. It is still currently recording while I am watching, and I have not gotten to live yet (35 minute show and freezing around 20 minutes). This also has happened at least 3 times in the week and half I have been using Emby (switched from Plex due to problems they have not fixed to playback during recording that has been going on for months). I have had a few successful playbacks during recording, but the wife gets quite frustrated when we cannot get through the news, hopefully you can feel my pain. We are using FireTv. However, I just tried to play last nights recording on my computer and it freezes in the same place. I am pasting a snippet of the log below, the errors just keep going. Could I have a setting wrong, or??? I am not even sure what to try. I can't really seem to find a definitive guide on configuring my system. Which is a Synology DS918+ and is up to date, I have tons of storage (only using 10%), but I have not added any m.2 cache to the system (it is stock other than expanded hd space). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated (I have searched and can't find any topics that seem to relate, so I hope it is something I can adjust on my end to fix it). My transcoding settings are basically the defaults, except I have change the thread count from Auto to 2. here is the log snippet: [segment @ 0x17fb3c0] Opening So I switched from Plex a while back as I prefer the way Emby handles my media and the plugins. But no matter what setting I pick I can not get stable playback of anything remotely. My internet connection is 400mbps/40mbps so that shouldn't be the problem. When playing from within the network with the windows server I have no issues and can play back anything in full quality. But when streaming it will only play for anywhere from a couple seconds to maybe a minute before it pauses, then continues. The pauses may be a second or 2 or may be 10 or so seconds. Regardless of how low I turn the settings it will not play without pausing. For music it is the same. It doesn't mater if I set it to 2mbps, 320kbps or auto. It is the same result. I want to continue paying to support the project but it has basically been unusable for me since I got it. I should note that chrome playback on my phone is maybe a little bit better than the app, but it still does the same thing. My phone is an LG V20.

Hello all, Has anyone else run into issues with playback when off your local network? I have had users reporting this recently (I believe only since updating to server v4.x) and have not had any luck in resolving it, I have tried adjusting the transcoding options, and even turning it off. I have also had the users try using much lower quality settings on their end. It all made no difference. Users are trying to playback files using various methods and it is always them same. While on my LAN, everything runs smooth as butter though. Would love to get some help trying to troubleshoot this. Thanks! N

Hello, I am having an issue with the Theater desktop app. For most hd content I try to play, it stutters at first and sometimes smooths out but usually stutters intermittently. I can see its direct playing from the server. I play the same content through firefox and get no stuttering. I really love the desktop app but have issues playing hd content. For the client I'm running Emby Theater 3.0.5 Windows 10 HP Desktop with 6 GB system ram AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual core 4400+ AMD Radeon R9 270x 2GB graphics card And the server is Ubuntu 16.04 running emby 3.5.3.0 AMD FX 8350 8-Core with 24 GB system ram AMD Radeon R9 270x 2GB graphics card Both connected to 1Gb Ethernet LAN I can access the files directly through samba shares that are setup on the server. I have also tried to play some 4k content but it stutters even worse. The only difference is that it doesn't play any better through the browser. As far as the 4k is concerned what is the bottleneck, is my hardware just not good enough? Thanks for any and all advice. RemuxLog1.txt RemuxLog2.txt RemuxLog3.txt ServerLog1.txt RemuxLog_4k_1.txt

Hi, I have both iphones and iPads and Emby seems to not really like any of them. If I play any media, it stutters if I put the quality above 1Mbps. Setting to auto does the same thing. I have other android phones, tablets, Nvidia Shield and no problems elsewhere, just the iOS app. I've tried both the internal server IP and my external domain name and that doesn't make any difference either. Doesn't matter if content is SD MP4 or HD, or even 4K, all does the same thing. Anyone have anything else I can try, or a setting somewhere I need to change? Thanks.

Client reporting freezing and stutter's even with full transcode
ButtoxDany posted a topic in General/Windows
One of the remote users on my server has been reporting freezing and stuttering quite often despite waiting for the transcode to reach 100%. It has happen across several different movies. It will play fine for some time but after 10-30 minutes the movie will freeze and it will never stutter and freeze from that point on. The movie is always 100% transcoded before playback begins and both of our speeds are quite sufficient for streaming and we experience no problems on any other sites. Were mainly using the web interface and google chrome for the remote user to play movies but have tried using embycon for kodi and experienced the same problem but much worse (froze every 2 minutes). I've tried enabling and disabling hardware acceleration as well as limiting the bitrate. In the past we've had success using 1080p 5mbps and waiting 30-45 minutes before playback. Now with the same settings were experiencing way more problems. Not quite sure what more i can try.- 63 replies

Hey Guys, Just wanted to report what I have been seeing over the last couple of days. Occasionally Xbox One Theater will freeze during playback. The only way to fix it is to back out and hit resume. Also at some points when you back out the app becomes very slow and unresponsive when trying to scroll through the library. I have attached a server log. Thanks guys! Log.txt

Hi all. So I've posted about this before, and didn't really receive support at that time unfortunately. Now that various versions have been released (which I've updated at various times), and I've tried a variety of things with the hardware (it's a VM). Nothing has fixed this issue, so I'm coming to the forums again for support. In case the title is unclear, playback of absolutely anything I watch in Emby will freeze at random times, and coincides with the service restarts that occur in the logs below. I'm including a code snippet with logs from before, during, and after a freeze that just happened today. Trailer plugin no longer plays trailers (loads forever)
skurvy_pirate posted a topic in General/Windows
In the last couple days trailers stopped working for me. They don't play before movies (cinema mode) and when I go directly to the trailers plugin and try playing something, it just displays the loading icon forever. I didn't see anything that jumped out in the logs. I have tried reinstalling the plugin and it hasn't made any difference. Any ideas what could be going on? -
I have been having a problem that seems to have started with the latest server version. I am not sure when I first noticed it so I am not 100% sure if the server version has anything to do with it. Long story short if I restart my server it will complete a scan with no problems (usually within 1 minute or less). Then after a bit of time with the server up it will conduct a scan and get stuck, usually at 49.9% every time. I have put my pastebin debug log link in here and this is shortly after a server restart. It started the library scan but around 1600 on the log it froze at 97.5%. Does anyone see anything in the log that could point me in the right direction. Thank you for any help you can provide. http://pastebin.com/pKCCevZg

I'm trying to play back 10 bit hevc content to a number of devices. I have tried using the web app on my phone and laptop. A raspberry pi 2 with the Kodi app. The same app on my phone and the server where Emby is installed. All content not transcoded plays perfectly well via the addon option in the kodi app or via direct play. I never have any quality issues or buffering problems. Whenever I try and transcode the videos they play for just over a minute and then stop. There is no quality problems or buffering during this time. In task manager on the server ffmpeg starts with playback and then goes to 0% just before the video freezes as if it thinks it has finished. I have tried toggling throttling, quality settings, thread settings and hardware acceleration but all have the same result. I have also tried updating to the beta server but to no avail. Does anyone have any advice? server log.txt ffmpeg log.txt

Still Experiencing Occasional Freezing And Stuttering: Xbox One
Scott310 posted a topic in Ember for Emby
Hey Guys, Emby theater for xbox one is still freezing during video playback. Its random but happens at least once or twice while watching a movie. Its hard to keep selling it to my family who get frustrated every time it freezes and I have to back out and resume from last positions which usually fixes it. I will provide any logs or pics you need even a sample file of a known movie to freeze up. Please, I just want Emby for Xbox one to work.... Is anyone else having this issue?- 13 replies

I was testing a test movie file, and the web client crashes at around 32 minutes of play back. It doesn't matter if I skip through the video or watch it to the point, the video crashes. I've attached my three logs relating to playback, and it seems that FFmpeg is throwing an exception somewhere. Any tips? A little bit of extra information, it crashes in the web player AND on Chromecast. I've tried the video straight in VLC (just the video file, not DLNA) and it plays the section just fine. remux-c8cb89d2-a6f3-44a7-9364-73b75a9e4e70.txt remux-c990a73f-5972-4ea5-9633-76da4e1bc127.txt server-63598778350.txt

Just ditched Comcast boxes to move over to HDHR to stream and record with, here is my setup: Lenovo tower with AMD-A10-6700 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 3.70GHz, 8GB RAM, 1TB HD, PNY - NVIDIA GeForce GT 740 2GB DDR3 PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card My media (movies, tv, music videos, etc) stream off a NAS - WD MyCloud EX2100 - (1GB RAM, 2 4TB HD's) Everything runs through an LG-Ericsson SMC-EZ1024DT EZ Switch, connected to an ARRIS SURFboard SBG6900-AC My Cable comes in through 2 HDHomerun Prime tuners, which I am running directly through Emby (no WMC for me). Internet/cable comes in through one line direct, split to four through a Snapfish Coax Bi-Directional Amplifier. (Taking a minute to catch my breath....) Ok, so the issue I am having is the cable plays direct from the HDHR on XBOne, but there is no program guide interface. I have multiple chromecasts to stream to, as well, throughout the house, but no luck there, either. HD wont even start when launching to chromecast. When I play through Emby over XBOne or PC or Android, it plays for about 5-10 minutes, then the screen freezes, volume stops and it will not recover itself. I have to exit out and restart over again. Repeatedly. I thought with my video card upgrade, my processor speed, etc, that it would be enough to handle any transcoding issues. I have fiddled with the bitrate on my devices, to no avail, and am really starting to get frustrated at this point, as we turned our cable boxes in and dont have them to fall back on anymore. When it does stream, I am not experiencing processor usage over 60-70%. Any suggestions? I have attached my last few transcoding logs. Thanks in advance.

Version: 3.0.5271.29451 Think this might be my first post - so thank you to all of the developers and testers for such an excellent platform. It has served us well for many years already and keeps getting better! Since the last update I have been experiencing a range of new, unexplained, behaviour with both the client and server (x64 Windows 8.1) counterparts. (This is the client / Classic Forum so will skim over the server first - ) The server functions fine once installed, but I had serious difficulty with the latest installer. It refused to complete the installation sitting at ~95% for a few minutes then appearing to be installed. However, the service would not start. I also starting to receive virus warnings from Symantec, which I have read elsewhere. Ignoring this threat, "uninstalling" and then manually deleting all traces of Media Browser I was then able to install (fresh). It may simply be the Symantec detection that was causing all issues. Classic - we have started to experience a number of different issues since the 3.0.5271.29451 (and/or since new interface if I missed any updates), as below: Remote Freezing - having played a video, upon trying to navigate the menu it appeared that Media Browser had crashed. This occurred multiple times. One time using Task Manager I noticed that MB was actually responding to the mouse (accidentally running the mouse across the screen). These freezes continue - any remote control input seems to be ignored. Can be resolved by exiting Media Browser Classic and relaunching it (though, this is difficult with a remote!) - so it isn't a crash within 8MC itself. ('Standard' MCE remote, USB RF - EMPREX Brand). I have now disabled the new interface (due to issues below) - so will confirm if this remote locking appears to be restricted to the new interface or across Media Browser completely. Other "Freezes" - again, since update media browser has started to freeze for a number of seconds before starting to respond again. Cannot reproduce reliably - ad-hoc occurrence. Normal function does return, freezes for different periods of time. New Interface - No Seek / Preview / Time Left incorrect - on the new interface the time left (I presume - right hand side) never matches the length of the video I have launched. At first I assumed it may be for the current chapter - however, when watching a children's programme with my daughter, noticed it reported a longer length than the video could be - so guess this is not related to chapters. Also unable to seek reliably - sometimes it does respond to advance/seek on the remote, but then no changes occur. A few times (mouse/keyboard/remote) it seems to only respond to presses after quite a long delay (3-20 seconds). The seek bar also does not respond. Although we like the look of the new interface, due to the above - and also, importantly some built-in MCE functionality e.g. zoom, reported elsewhere - we are not able to adopt it due to the above issues. Hopefully the above may be helpful - will try to report back any updates to above. Thanks again!

So, just recently my PC has started to annoy me. I rebuilt it not too long ago, new everything except hard drives/case. And now im getting this annoying freezing/stutter issue. For example if I watch a movie in MBT it will randomly freeze up the video and the audio will repeat (like a music CD would do when its scratched), the odd thing is it will stay like that until I push play and it will resume just fine then do the same thing later. What gets me though is it does it in Kodi, MBT and even netflix via firefox (metro app works fine). I honeslty have no idea what it is, I assumed the video card/PSU but it never once does it in a game under load. Only watching a movie/show across multiple different apps. Sometimes it won't do it for a day or two, sometimes every 2 minutes it will. Restarting usually fixes it for a while(sometimes). Intel i5 4690k, MSI GTX 960, Corsair HX750, Windows 8.1. Anyone ever have an issue like this? I can live with it, it's just annoying.

My husband installed MB3 server for me and set everything up... it all worked great! Then he got a real server computer and put MB3 on that it worked great until that computer died. He put the old computer back up as our movie server and since then have nothing but issues! movies freeze while watching it on the app. He streams to chromcast and it freezes. My daughter and myself have had it freeze or pause several times during playing a movie. And at one time it showed up on my Xbox 360 and now I don't see the movies any more making it un-usable for MB3. Sometimes even though the server is up and running our web browsers and apps say its not up. And these issues are for everything... apps, linkpc.net and localhost Can someone help me figure out what is wrong. If I need to give more information I can. Things I do .... MB3 is up to date according to program. Version 3.0.5340.21263 We have the apps for both iOS and Android He uses linkpc.net for out of local connection. Is there something in the settings? Is it the computer itself? is it linkpc.net but other address caused the same issues. Help! He won't fix it. It's up to me to fix it. I love media brower and don't want to learn a new system for my movies!

During playback almost 100% of the time, Mediabrowser freezes and really just locks up either my phone or tablet to the point where I have to shut the device off and restart. I'll start the movie and everything will be fine. Then maybe I'll try to go and try and pause it and then I get a black screen and the entire device is not functional. Its gotten to the point that I just don't use the app anymore so I was hoping someone could help. I see by the reviews from the android play store that I am not the only one has this issue. Both my devices are Android 4.4.2. One is the a Galaxy S4 and the other is Nexus 7 (2013). Any help would be appreciated.
