When playing a movie in some browsers (mainly Chrome) if res/bitrate menu is pulled up and the account is set to absolutely no transcoding the movie will stall or crash if the bitrate/resolution is changed. Initially it will show "Direct Play" but once change "Direct Play option disappears. The next picture will show that "Direct Play" disappears once it has initially changed to anothe Bitrate/Res. Granted sometime depending on browser you are able select a bitrate/res higher then the file and it will go back to "Direct Play" but lots of times it will just crash until transcoding is turn on and changed during playback. Proposed solution: Simply add an option under "Users>Profiles" called "Direct Play Only" which will disable the menu to change bitrate/res and should disable/ grey out the following option under "User/Profile" when enabled: 1. Media Playback > "Allow Audio Playback that Requires Transcoding" and "Allow Video Playback that Requires Transcoding" 2. I am suddenly getting Playback error: There was an error processing the request. whenever i try to lay back most Live TV channels (a few SD channels stream fine). Error also appears when ever I try to stream other media files that have worked fine before. Everything was working fine late last night, then I took an hour or so break and came back and am having thirs issues ever since. I have 3 Android phones (1 is MM and the other 2 LP). All 3 phones have the same version of the app and all now show error. Stream on PC via Chrome still works fine. I have restart the phones, Emby server and the PC the server is installed upon. Hi there, I have a problem with the Emby app for Android: In our flat we have two servers (one is mine, the other is my roommate's). My roommate's server (Win 2012 R2) hosts the movie library while I use mine for testing purposes. I also installed Emby Server on my machine to test streaming to my chromecast device which works perfectly. Unfortunately, chromecast streaming does not work with the other server. I can log in and play stuff on my phone, but as soon as I establish the connection to chromecast ("Ready to cast") nothing is happening when I press the play button. We also use a HTPC with Kodi and the Emby plugin (Emby Theater as well) to watch movies from the server and it is also working fine. The server uses port 80 for http local and 443 for https local. We also set the port settings to default, but no change so far. Same applies to firewall settings, we disabled it entirely, but no luck. Any ideas? I am running out of things I can try Help is much appreciated!

Recently I have had massive issues with emby, all my devices are having issues. Fire tv is the worst. Everything is playing back in extremely low quality, low bitrate and the resolution must be around 240p. Everything else just refuses. Chromecast plays 1 minute properly then gives up, emby theatre for windows just refuses and the html5 player in chrome is the only one that will work. Any ideas.

I've been testing the Sync option as a way to create android friendly versions of my 1080-MKV files instead of transcoding and I have some questions. 1. I installed the folder sync plugin and added a local directory as the target. The media was converted to an mp4 file but never moved from the AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\sync\uuid\ folder that was created. Should this have happened automatically? 2. Is there a way to monitor which movies have been synced? 3. Is there a way to clean up syncd movies to remove old ones? 4. Even when I had sync a movie to an mp4 file and then tried to play it back via the web client the server logs showed it still used the mkv one, is this the correct action? Thanks Brian

Hello. Movie playback does not start from the beginning and transport commands (skip forward, skip backwards) often do not work. For example, I can start movie playback and it may start ~10 minutes into the movie. If I try to skip backwards (to beginning) it will only go back to where the movie originally started (10 minutes in). Also, clicking on the movie progress bar (not sure what it is called) to adjust where I want to move to in the movie playback seems goofy. Does not appear to work or does not indicate actual position in the movie. Can not seem to get this figured out and not seeing similar issues when I search the forum. I have used Media Browser with Windows Media Center Edition for years and it has been great. Moved to Emby Theater and became supporter... My library consists of VOBs (all ripped using DVDFab Main Movie feature). This library method worked great for Media Browser but have been unable to get proper playback with Emby Theater. So I have a problem I am trying to figure out. Some files. All seem to be mkv files have an issue where the video never playes even remotly as clear as the original file. Even if Im playing it on the same machine the server is running on. Its not all mkv files just some shows do this. Im not sure how to fix it. An example where the streaming works fine it the show Game of thrones. I ripped and converted my blueray disk of the series into MKV Files. These play absolutely perfectly in 1080p. I would say they even look better than the original blueray disk. But lots of shows such as the show Arrow which I happen to have in MKV format do not play clear at all. I have an Emby server setup on my Ubuntu 16.04 (Xenial) machine. The machine is a Lenovo B560 and has decent specs. I have an extensive music library which is fully indexed by Emby (~1500 albums). When I click on an album to play it, all the songs will be put in the queue and Emby will play the first song fine. However, after that, it will refuse to automatically play the next one, despite it being 'Up next'. If I look at the queue, it will show the first song as playing, even though it is long finished. When I eventually give in and press the button to play the next song, it does so fine. This is annoying, as it means I am unable to play more than one song when I am driving, and it's frustrating enough in the house. So what is the reason for this strange behaviour? Is it a misconfiguration issue? If not, how can I fix it?

Good day, I really enjoy emby server. Thanks for such a great application. I upgraded to 3.0.5972 under ubuntu 14.04 LTS and now my mkv files do not stream. Emby is responding with an error message when trying to stream the file. I have attached a complete log with debugging(dlna included) turned on. The error message in question occurred at 17:22.25. It seems that the videoStreamer does not like the Embed on the end of the http url. An mkv file with no embedded subtitles streams fine. I can recreate the error if I paste the url into a web browser(opera, iexplore). If I remove the Embed from the url the file loads fine. Attached is the xml output of the error message after I paste the url into opera. Here are the steps completed to try to reslove: Clean install of emby-server complete with file and db purge - same issue I have rebuilt the server with a clean ubuntu 14.04LTS foundation re-install emby - same issue Also, it seems that emby is not scanning the video files for chapter thumbnails - I could not see any error message in the log regarding that. I was testing a test movie file, and the web client crashes at around 32 minutes of play back. It doesn't matter if I skip through the video or watch it to the point, the video crashes. I've attached my three logs relating to playback, and it seems that FFmpeg is throwing an exception somewhere. Any tips? A little bit of extra information, it crashes in the web player AND on Chromecast. For whatever reason, lately I've been having issues with playback in ET. I'll start to watch a TV show, and after about 1 second of playback it just stops playing, and then skips to the next episode. Just now I had ET skip through 4 episodes in a row like this; each time playing the first second of the episode and skipping to the next one, until eventually an episode (now 5 episodes ahead of the one I intended to watch) plays normally. I've tested these episodes in Windows Media Player (Or whatever it's called in Windows 10 now, I just upgraded to Win10 not long ago), and they all play just fine. They're all in .MKV format. If there's any more information I can provide that could help, please let me know and I'll try me best.

Hello, Trying out Emby on my Mac (OS X Lion 10.7.5, 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) so see if better than on my ubuntu server with a slower CPU than this. Look around 8:33am today on the log file. Using web browser on the same mac. I have also tried a couple days ago on my iOS device as well as android tv with the same errors in the log. I can playback the same files through VLC fine. I had installed ffmpeg separately as I thought that may have been the issue looking through similar issues on this forum. Same errors on the log on playback before and after the ffmpeg install. I am just another user converting from Plex, seems like a trend here. From what I have seen so far I am very impressed. My environment unraid 6.1.8 server with the official docker running. It is launched with this command: docker run -d --name="EmbyServer" --net="host" -e APP_UID="99" -e APP_GID="100" -e TZ="America/New_York" -p 8096:8096/tcp -v "/mnt/user/config/emby":"/config":rw -v "/mnt/user/Video/":"/mnt":rw emby/embyserver All seems to be going good accept I cannot playback video over https port 8920 on a Mac running OS 10.11.3 and Safari browser version 9.0.3. Any video I play just gives a video playback error. When connected to the host with http and port 8096 all is well and I can play back video just fine. This seems specific to the Safari browser with https. I can play back video in Chrome on Mac with https just fine, or on Windows. This is not a deal breaker for me but I just wanted to provide my feedback/log in case others have noticed this. I took a glance through the thread here and did not see a post. Keep up the great work and I am glad I have made the switch. Hello, the spouse has had no luck with the app on her iPad, even after getting a new one earlier this week. The MKV files are transcoded and stream just fine (i.e., the playback is not choppy, even at 20 MB/sec), but then the stream randomly stops. I reduced the transcode rate from "automatic" to 4 MP/sec and it worked for two episodes of her (current) favourite show, but then hasn't worked since. Shows can stop streaming after 4 minutes or as long as 40, but she is unable to get through longer episodes without stopping (the little busy indicator comes on). Trying to resume results in nothing happening, and starting from scratch sometimes works and sometimes starts two streams playing simultaneously (for audio, the screen remains blank), one at the stopping point, and one from the beginning. The server doing the transcoding is under light load and has the power to handle conversion in realtime, as far as I know. I see the transcoding bar below the playback bar as always running about 5-10% ahead, so that doesn't seem to be an issue. Anyone else experiencing this? Thanks.

Hello everybody, After updating to the latest iPhone version, I am receiving the below error (within and outside my network as well) when I try to play any mp4 movie that contains an 5.1 AAC audio. To give you an idea of my setup, I have converted all my movies to mp4 h264 and aac 5.1 so I can use the direct play feature with no problem. When I access my movies within the Samsung app on my TV, everything is working ok but from the iPhone it only allows me to playback aac 2.0 audio channel videos. Previously I was able of course to stream 5.1 in my iPhone without a problem. Naturally I am not going to add to every single film I have an additional 2 channel aac, as I prefer 5.1 cause of my home theatre system. I just need to be able to play them from my iphone as well (even though it won't be a real 5.1 through the phone, but that doesn't bother me). Strange thing is that my nexus tablet works fine with aac 5.1 audio so there must be something wrong with the iPhone app. Also to mention, I have the "allow video playback that requires transcoding" UNSELECTED as I had it before and that is why I have converted everything to mp4 and aac to begin with (meaning avoid transcoding as much as possible). Again, I had no issue previously and it still works with my android tablet so I can only thing that this is the iPhone's app bug. When I ticked back the transcoding option just to see what happens, I have encountered the "transcoding continues on server" issue from another thread below: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/28678-transcoding-contines-on-server-after-you-stop-video-on-ios/ so I really don't want to use that feature in any case if possible. Hi there, Don't know if you are already aware of this bug, but I just realized that Emby for Kodi 1.1.62 announces a wrong data content for the onNotification python method (http://mirrors.xbmc.org/docs/python-docs/stable/xbmc.html#Monitor-onNotification). When starting a playback via the Emby WebUI on Kodi, it gives something like {"item":{"title":"Tenth Avenue Freeze‐Out","type":"movie"},"player":{"playerid":1,"speed":1}} for the "data" field, although a song is being played. "movie" is clearly wrong here. IDK if this comes from Emby, the addon, or Kodi itself, I could provide more information if required.

Hi, Running latest Emby stable on two different servers, one running CentOS 7 (64-bit) with Mono 4.2.1 and the other running Windows 8.1 (64bit) I found that LiveTV playback using the webclient on Firefox 43.0.4 on Linux works against the server running on Windows but doesn't work against the server running on Linux. The exact problem is that in FF the player is loading but the screen is black, no video. On the other hand when streaming from the Windows server, playback works fine. I will attach both servers logs to the thread later. If there is any other details you want me to cover just let me know. Thanks.

Hi, I installed this a few hours ago on my MacBook Pro and Roku 1. The Roku 1 connects to and sees all the media in my folder, even creating thumbnails from the media. But once I press Play, the blue "retrieving" bar gets just under half way across and freezes. It stays like that for a minute or two, then returns to the previous screen. A transcode log is created, but no transcodes are created in the "transcoding-temp" folder. I've tried AVIs, MOVs & MP4s using an h264 or MP4 codec. Please note that if there's a preferred codec / wrapper combo that would make streaming easier or more efficient, please let me know as I would have no problem transcoding my files as needed to accommodate the process. Hello Emby, big fan here and I've been using Emby for a few months now. I've been having a small issue. I have a supporter membership so I would assume that my users would not have to also pay for it correct? Because it seems like I'm having issues with a new user I added maybe a day ago. I have added them to my server via email confirmation link and I was able to log in on my device to ensure playback was working but when they try to sign in on their device it comes up with the please unlock this app message. Is the only way to get that to disappear to have them sign in through my wifi? Because he lives a town over and I would rather him avoid the drive. Sorry if it is a dumb question, I just haven't quite been caught up to date with everything on the app yet. Thanks in advance guys!

I recently installed the Enby app for roku. I can connect to the server, see all of my folders, series, episodes etc. but when I click on an episode or movie to play, it shows a progress bar to indicate that it is loading/buffering and stops halfway through and then reverts to the previous page. Any help would be appreciated.

Well the title sort of says it all.. Are iso rips with iso mounting and external player loading in Emby Configurator for WMC still the best way to do it? In the past I was using MB2.6.X with this set up to play back via TMT5 for WMC. Then my HTPC failed on me and I am just now finally getting everything put back together. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Complete newbee here. Just installed Emby on Mac OS X (10.7.5). Set it all up (I think) and added movies. Using an Android phone to ensure things are working correctly, downloaded the emby app. videos thumbnails and details show up but every time I play them, the green Emby logo spins then gives me a "Playback Error". There was a error processing the request. The videos are .m4v codec.

Hi all i seem to have a issue with playback with emby. in the webgui . after around 2-4min it just stopes. and if i stop the move/tv show to go back agian and try same happens. Also pause or play dont respond ether to try restart it when that happens.. Also i do not see any specialy high cpu or ram use when it happens ether. and the same video files works fine playing/streaming in plex or other players.
