  1. Hello, As I try to play an AV1 video file from a portable windows server version of Emby that has both : Opus Stereo (french) + Opus 5.1 (english) audio files, the Opus 5.1 track doesn't plays on either Google Chrome or Emby for Windows (Store version). Even though it says both tracks are running "passthrough" I'm providing the logs. I was considering purchasing a lifetime licence for Emby when the "watch together" functionnality will be out, but ran in this Opus 5.1 issue, hope it's something on my end ! ffmpeg-directstream-51c08aed-c433-4a55-a1e9-7f5e49487cb1_1.txt
  2. Hi all, As the title suggests, I am trying to get the best compatibility out of the Apple TV app but having a few issues. Using the native tvOS player (MPV unchecked) 5.1 surround audio works great, with a wide variety of formats (AC3, AAC, Dolby, etc). I would be happy to use the native player all the time, but unfortunately this forces transcoding sometimes as it appears to have limited video codec compatibility. As a result, once in a while I switch on the MPV player in the client app settings in order to prevent transcoding, but none of my 5.1 audio works when I do. The server dashboard doesn’t suggest any transcoding or downmixing to stereo, is there anything I can do to fix 5.1 audio with the MPV player enabled? thanks, AK
  3. Hey, I have a Sonos Beam 5.1 setup & Nvidia shield. The Beam doesn't support AAC 5.1, so I need to use the 'transcode unsupported audio' option inside of the Emby App. However, I've noticed that this forces it to transcode on the server side, while other players like Kodi can easily transcode it on the fly on the client side. Is there a way to convert AAC 5.1 to AC3 5.1 on the client side of the Emby app instead? Would setting it to use an external player work?
  4. @LukeI hate to bother you and the developers but the new Emby update has seems to have flip the audio Channels around. I have several 5.1 audio movies and shows that have been affected by this. And form the look of it the tv app and mobile app doesn't have any way to change the audio settings or at least force it to stereo audio. Please fix this. Btw love the new update y'all are making so much progress it's amazing.
  5. HI Sorry if this has already been answered but I couldn't find it. I am playing HEVC with 5.1 files to A Fire stick. Only the rear audio channels are going to my telly. How to I force it to transcode to stereo? In http://localhost:8096/web/encodingsettings.html/Playback/Transcoding I dont see anything about audio except boost when downmixing. Or anywhere else. thanks remainz I am just coming to Emby because it can do HEVC on a home server. UG Typo in title sorry. edit wont let me fix the title
  6. If I use Handbrake "HQ 1080p30 Surround" to encode with default settings the first audio is Stereo and the 2nd Audio is AC3 Passthrough of a 5.1 audio track. Both these appear as options when I choose the resulting file served from emby server on my Sony Bravia Android TV app. Surround sound does *not* get sent to my receiver. When I repeat the encode process with Handbrake but this time delete the Stereo track so there is only one AC3 pass through. This is again correctly identified in the movie selection on the TV and the surround sound arrives at my decoder. ie when the App has no choice in sound tracks the hardware, tv, receiver etc. all get surround sound signals. It seems when there is a choice only the stereo is sent by the Emby app to my receiver. Now when I change the order in Handbrake, or remove the stereo so the 5.1 track is first and then add back in stereo as either the second track or move it up top to be the first track or even if i use ffmpeg and -map the order of the tracks no permutation (and I tried all of them) allows me to get 5.1 signals to my receiver - yet in all cases the app correctly identifies the number of tracks, the order and which is "default" and one of them is AC3 5.1. So for some reason selection of a 5.1 audio track in the TV app doesn't cause the App to send this to my receiver even though my TV, cabling and receiver are all able to receive and process 5.1 sound when I encode a file with *only* one AC3 5.1 pass through track. Am happy to send example files (I have a 40mb excerpt of X-Men), videos of what I'm doing, debug logs, you name it, whatever you need if I can help someone who can work this out and save me having to re-encode all my mp4s to remove the stereo track. For completeness. I am making no changes to either the cables or the TV or the App settings to get the 5.1 sound to work on the file that has only one track. The App doesn't seem to be able to correctly send 5.1 to my receiver when the video file has a choice of 5.1 and stereo tracks. I'm more than happy to repeat this and check all the usual stuff about TV audio settings etc. but I'm pretty sure this is something in the Emby App selection / processing / deciding what to do when there are more than 1 audio tracks in a file. I'm happy to run any diagnostics anyone cares to think of to get this working because I suspect from what I've read elsewhere a lot of people are struggling with this. Much thanks in advance. Identifying MKV Audio

I have ripped some 5.1 audio albums to create MKV files. The files play back correctly. However, I see no way to use Identify to find the album. Even though I have the AudioDB plug-in, only MovieDB, IMDB, etc, are searched. That means that when I am searching for Chicago II (the album by Chicago), it matches to a wresting movie NXT Takeover: Chicago II! Is there a way to tell Emby to search for audio matches and not movie matches? If not, how can I manually update the metadata for audio and not a movie?

    Dolby 5.1 Sound

I have a TCL P8S Android Tv and not able to get 5.1 out unless I use an external player; what could be the problem. Sound is set as Auto.
  9. I've noticed that both my Chromecast v2 and Ultra are happy to direct play multi-channel audio encoded using either Dolby Digital (AC3) or Dolby Digital Plus (EAC3). Anything else (Dolby True HD, Atmos, DTS, DTS-MA, DTS-X) gets transcoded to Dolby Digital at 384 kbit/s. I'm very impressed with the way Emby handles this - it's even smart enough to transcode EAC3 to AC3 when I turn off the AV receiver (and it's just the TV doing the audio decoding). I'm less impressed that it needs to do this at all for the Chromecast Ultra: why do Google think it's OK to market it as 4K HRD capable and yet only support these two codecs? It's particularly bad when DTS gets transcoded to AC3 (one lossy early 90s format to another). Dolby claim that DD+ is up to twice as efficient as old DD and Netflix are now streaming in DD+ at 640 kbit/s ("the point at which additional quality is imperceivable"). I decided to experiment using Emby's version of ffmpeg on my Synology NAS (a DS918+ running a Celeron J3455). DTS to AC3 at 384k vs. DTS to EAC3 at 640k. I had to set avoid_negative_ts to its default value of "auto" for the EAC3 transcode - Chromecast won't direct play EAC3 streams with negative timestamps. I was concerned that the EAC3 conversion might require more CPU time, but if anything it's faster. The conversion logs are attached. I won't claim to have the best equipment or ears (MP3 at 320k is fine by me), but I can hear the difference. The Mad Men opening theme (test file I used) sounds better to me in the EAC3 version, particularly the cymbals. What do the Emby developers think about transcoding to EAC3 at 640k when it's supported by the playback device? An easy win for better audio quality, or just another wild idea from a clueless audiophile? AC3_transcode.txt EAC3_transcode.txt
  10. Years ago I used the Shark007 codecs and would configure AC3 filter to convert all my AAC 5.1 audio tracks to AC3 5.1. These days I'm using LAV filters (like most people here I expect) and I hadn't really considered what was happening with my older videos that have AAC multi-channel audio track (all my new stuff is DD or DTS). So, it appears that it just gets output as 2 channel PCM - does anyone know how to configure the LAV Audio Decoder to enable 5.1 PCM? Or do I have to resort to AC3 filter again?
  11. Hello everyone, i'm trying to get my Tv sony + receiver connected by optical cable to get 5.1/7.1 audio (DTS, DD, etc). the problem is that in any configuration (view the video settings next) the output from my TV to my Receiver is only PCM 2.0, but if i play the same video by DLNA or direct HDD connection i get the 7.1 dolby digital or true HD sound with no problems. in emby app i have the sound mode setting to AUTO (not downmix to stereo). the video info next: log attached in the post. thankks for you help. 12. Hi All I previously had emby server and emby(WMC) running on win 7 machine all worked fine , PC was getting old (10yr +) so i have changed to a new I7 win10 computer with good graphics SSD drives etc etc, I installed emby server and am using emby theatre with my media , all is ok, all videos are playing ok and dts in films is fine over the optical pass through to my AMP. However I have a large 5.1/DTS collection which sounds great when played through the surround sound and worked perfectly with the old set up but the new plays the 5.1/DTS files too fast, peter Gabriel sledgehammer plays back like he is part chipmunk. Is this a known issue , or is there something I can do to correct this. on the old setup I had Sharky installed that handled all the decoding.
  13. I've found an unusual issue. I typically name my H.264 files as .M4V. Using that extension, with a stock multi-track movie (2 chan HE-AAC as the first track and AC3 5.1 as the second), it will default to the stereo track, and only Direct Stream the 5.1 track. If I rename the file to a .MP4 extension, it does DirectPlay without issue and auto-selects the 5.1 track without issue. The info indicates it is doing Direct Stream with M4V due to the container. I've used M4V on many many servers, with this audio setup and none had an issue with the container/codec setup. I'm not sure if this is by design, or a bug. The only other issue is a movie filename with periods in it like "The Man From U.N.C.L.E (2016)". I end up with "The Man From WTF". Worth a laugh to be sure, but not expected. Can I force it to leave my filenames alone and not rename them? I really dislike when a server does this without asking. So far so good otherwsie! Great server. Thanks!
  14. I just got a new Sony BRAVIA (55 inch X90F - KD-55X9000F) yesterday and want to use the Emby app on it instead of the old HTPC running WMC and Emby Classic. The TV is running Android TV 7.0 and the Emby Server is currently version 3.5.3.0 on a Windows Server 2012 R2 machine. The audio system is an old Panasonic one with support for Dolby Digital and DTS and is connected via the optical out from the TV. The HTPC was connected to this system via optical out as well. Videos open fine from the Emby app on the new TV, but all audio is only being passed to the sound system as stereo instead of 5.1 as expected. Opening the same videos via the DLNA server from the TV has the audio pass to the audio system correctly as Dolby or DTS. Playing UHD Blu-rays from my Sony UBP-X700 passes the audio as expected as well. Most of my Blu-ray rips have been encoded as HEVC/H.265 with DTS-HD MA as MKVs, while DVD rips are the same with Dolby Digital or DTS audio. I have also tested using H.264 encoded videos. A log file from playing my rip of Avatar is attached. Any help with getting the digital audio working would be appreciated. ffmpeg-transcode-cc814e6f-523b-4cc3-b874-0d6e62ecf044.txt

    Audio Crackle

Hi there, Seem to be getting a strange audio crackle in 5.1 files when using the internal player. Rolling back to a version that uses LibVlc fixes the issue, so perhaps LibMpv related? Works fine on my OnePlus 3 - Custom Oreo 8.1 Horrible to listen to on my Z3 Tablet Compact - Custom Oreo 8.1 (rolling back to 2.9.76 makes it usable) Fairly new to Emby so no idea what I would need to provide to debug! Any help appreciated!

    Issues with 5.1 Sound

I just recently starting seeing an issue on my Fire Sticks after the FireOS 5.0.5 release where videos with 5.1 audio are not playing the center channel at all. It's quite strange, I hear the surrounding sounds, but most all vocals are gone. This doesnt happen with 2.1 channel videos. I have tried reinstalling the server and factory resetting my Fire Sticks, but the issue is still happening on both, on two different TVs.

    Audio Passthrough doesn't work properly

Hello, so first here is my configuration : Emby 3.0.8300.0 myKodi 17 Krypton Beta 3 Emby for Kodi Beta 1.0.5 All that on a QNAP 253A to HDMI amp. I understand that my problem maybe comes from the Beta combo Kodi 17 x Emby for Kodi but maybe it's something else I'm missing. First of all I started by installing Kodi 17 without Emby, with my library on the same server and everything was working perfectly with audio passthrough enabled, the 5.1 sounds was working well either in AC3, DTS or AAC5.1 (I installed the last beta Kodi version because I have a lot of film in H265 and it's the only one that supports it perfectly for the moment). And so I decided to centralize all my library through Emby to manage it more easily from my laptop. I've installed the last version of Emby on my QNAP server who works nicely, and the last beta Emby for Kodi add-on finally (cause it's the only one that works on Kodi 17). I didn't have any issue to sync everything, all my films appear great in Kodi. I configured the playback in the Emby add-on options in native path and with no transcode option activated. And there my problem comes: I can play all the video really fine (H.264, H.265) with the audio passthrough in AAC 2.0 but when I play a AAC 5.1 file the back speakers have the same sound coming from the front speakers. And when I try to play AC3 or DTS file it's worst and no sound comes out at all. I tried to deactivate the audio passthrough and the sound is back but with no proper decoding of the 5.1 obviously. I don't know what to do, I only know that the problem comes from the sync with the Emby library because it was working well before I decided to use the Emby add-on, when I had my files directly linked to Kodi. Anyone can help me ? Thanks so much!
  18. Hi Everyone, I'm using Emby for a longer while now, but I got one new and one older (longer existing) problem (bot in WMC with Windows 10): Just a short overview of my config / systems: I got a HTPC with an i5 6400 with 8GB of RAM running Windows 10 and the media center installed. This is connected via HDMI to a Pioneer VSX-830 surround receiver (with 5.1 speakers), which is connected to a 65" LED TV - also with HDMI. My media is stored on a dedicated server - running Windows Server 2012 R2 with a i5 3550 and 32GB of RAM with all my media in a 5x3TB RAID6 volume. Emby is installed in newest version on both server and HTPC. Both are connected via Gbit network. On both system I have installed Shark007's codecs in newest version and set the Audio setting to HDMI (the upper of the 3 options - these are: HDMI, SPDIF, Analog). I do not use transcoding on the server to the HTPC. 1. (The new problem) The sound played from Emby is only played in stereo - no matter what the sound-track of the source is. I mostly got MKV files from which most of them are in 720p, some in 1080p - most with either DolbyDigital or DTS. This is very anoying. When I watch TV from WMC, the output is equal with the input - so TV-shows with stereo will play in stereo and stuff in DD will be played with DD. Also when I open some movies in VLC on the HTPC, the output is exactly as it should be. So what can I do to watch my movies with apropriate sound? 2. (The older problem) When I watch any movie with EMBY on the HTPC, the fast forward / rewind / skipping forward etc. is not usable. Any button-press just doesn't initate any action. I use a second display to show TV-station names etc, on this it only says "stream". In the past (with the old local version of the Media-Browser) all of this has not been a problem. It doesn't change if I use the old or the new-style player. How can I fix this? Resuming also doens't always work.. Thanks in advance and best regards, Matthias
  19. I read in the App Status thread that the Amazon platform will generate transcoding from DTS to DD. But that thread says nothing about this specific feature for the Google platform. Does this occur for Android TVs? My surround sound is part of my Blu ray player that does not natively support DTS, only DD. Occasional I've had to change my app settings to downmix to stereo even though I have 5.1 capabilities... because of DTS.
  20. I am totally loving the new Emby Theater accessible through the Xbox One browser. There are a lot of 1080p videos in my collection that are in WMV format. video: Windows Media Video 9 audio: Windows Media Audio 9 Professional - 640 kbps, 48 kHz, 5.1 channel 24 bit The video plays very well but it seems as if it is losing the 5.1 audio and transcoding it to just mono or something because it is only being played through my center speaker and no audio is coming from my surround speakers or subwoofer which almost makes the video unwatchable due to how bad it sounds. When I play through DLNA or do "cast to device" from my windows 10 PC it plays the audio in 5.1 without any problems. I'm also a paying Emby Premiere member and I love the Emby Theater interface and everything about it on my Xbox One but I can't use it to watch these videos with what it is doing to the audio so I have to continue streaming them to my Xbox One the way I was before via DLNA or casting it from my PC. Is there anything I can do or that can be done in a future update that won't mess up the audio like it is? Thank you. (I'm sure it will be even better once the Xbox One has universal app support and it can have its own native Emby app.)

    AAC 5.1 issue

Hello everybody, After updating to the latest iPhone version, I am receiving the below error (within and outside my network as well) when I try to play any mp4 movie that contains an 5.1 AAC audio. To give you an idea of my setup, I have converted all my movies to mp4 h264 and aac 5.1 so I can use the direct play feature with no problem. When I access my movies within the Samsung app on my TV, everything is working ok but from the iPhone it only allows me to playback aac 2.0 audio channel videos. Previously I was able of course to stream 5.1 in my iPhone without a problem. Naturally I am not going to add to every single film I have an additional 2 channel aac, as I prefer 5.1 cause of my home theatre system. I just need to be able to play them from my iphone as well (even though it won't be a real 5.1 through the phone, but that doesn't bother me). Strange thing is that my nexus tablet works fine with aac 5.1 audio so there must be something wrong with the iPhone app. Also to mention, I have the "allow video playback that requires transcoding" UNSELECTED as I had it before and that is why I have converted everything to mp4 and aac to begin with (meaning avoid transcoding as much as possible). Again, I had no issue previously and it still works with my android tablet so I can only thing that this is the iPhone's app bug. When I ticked back the transcoding option just to see what happens, I have encountered the "transcoding continues on server" issue from another thread below: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/28678-transcoding-contines-on-server-after-you-stop-video-on-ios/ so I really don't want to use that feature in any case if possible. Is there something I can do, to manually fix my 5.1 audio issue or I need to wait for another update? Sorry for the long message. Thanks in advance, George
  22. I can get 5.1 from my Fire TV via Kodi and Netflix, but all I've been able to get from the Emby app is stereo. I see posts indicating it is possible, but I can find any settings in the app or on the server side.
  23. Hello all, I was looking for some responses from anyone with some hands on experience that can provide feedback for their 3D and 5.1 solutions/setups. I currently have an i3 Windows 8.1 machine running the Emby Server and the Client on the same machine in my living room. It works great and I love the experience. (both in WMC and the Emby Theater app) But now, I am looking to add a Benq W1070 projector and a client in another room and want it to be able to do Full 3D (not half SBS) and 5.1 audio (HD audio is probably not going to happen). I have been doing some research over in the Kodi forums (http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=221407) and trying to figure out which client and hardware is best for my needs. Is anyone here playing Full 3D content using the Emby server, if so what is your setup, which emby app do you use, etc.? The Raspberry Pi 2 with Kodi appears to be good but the HiMedia Q5 has an Optical Audio Out. I haven't started purchasing components yet and I really don't want to waste money buying the wrong thing. TL;DR - What is your Full 3D with 5.1 audio hardware solution for playback? Which Emby Client/App do you use and what is your setup and does it run smoothly?
  24. I have been using WD/Roku boxes in the past and am looking to a long term solution. I have 2 1080p displays w/HDMI. 1 has a soundbar and 1 is just builtin speakers (which ). I use emby, netflix, pandora amazon and youtube (more or less in that order). My intial impulse is to grab 2 Intel NUC's and load them with ubuntu w/kodi for my 2 displays- but I have never done this kind of build. I am partial to open source - and OpenELEC didn't seem as robust as kodi. So I have some rather amateurish questions: What is the kind of low end solution to streaming 5.1 audio? I am looking at Home Theatres in a box, specifically Onkyo because I was told their build quality is worth it. I read somewhere that computers often convert audio to 2 streams before pushing it over HDMI. The whole point is I want 5.1 is to get that spatial aspect - so that would completely defeat the point. I have never built an HTPC, can i consolidate remotes? How do you consolidate remotes when you have IR and RF remotes. I prefer RF or wireless but don't have enough knowledge of IR/RF blasters/recievers and how they interact with both hardware and software. Please excuse my ignorance! thanks!

5.1 Audio on Roku not working

Hi Guys-- Longtime MB user but Forum Newbie here. I've been using MB for a while now and noticed recently that I can't seem to get 5.1 audio on my Roku 3 anymore. Before, all I had to do was to change the "Max Quality" settings under Transcoding under "Playback in the Emby server settings. In the Roku app, I had the bitrate set to 30mbps (HD). I've still got it set to 30mbps HD (the highest setting) but I still only see 2 channels coming through my receiver. Also, in the "Transcoding" settings under 'Playback", I've also still got that set to "Max Quality". I'm not using DLNA on purpose since when I stream to my PS3, it works, but, the picture is really dark. It looks way better on the Roku. Also, I don't have a DLNA profile for the Roku anyway. I looked at the logs, and on the top line of the transcode log, I see "MaxAudioChannels=2". I am certain this is the culprit, but I cannot for the life of me find where to change it. I've searched the forum for this and I didn't see anything that seemed to be related to my issue. I'm on Emby Version: 3.3.5588.1 on a Win8,1 Pro machine. I have a Gigabit connection to the Roku via my router (ASUS RT-AC68U with Merlin firmware). I have port 8096 mapped to my server in the Port Forwarding settings as well. Attached are the server and transcode logs. I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but if you can point me to where I can change the audio channel setting, I'd welcome your advice! transcode-c78c2822-3078-4f14-a89c-4a8f8189107d.txt server-63565573684.txt
