Emby Live TV development Direct Playback is not really Direct it Remuxes / Trans Remuxes
C0nw0nk posted a topic in Live TV
Hello all, The person who could answer this best would be Luke i think as one of the lead developers but others are welcome. But in a nut shell the title says it all. So when using Emby server for Live TV. For example you could use the M3U plugin. The URL feed when using direct playback that you would expect the Emby Media player to be using is https://domain-name/path-ts-file-1.ts https://domain-name/path-ts-file-2.ts https://domain-name/path-ts-file-3.ts But it does not use the above. It seems the Emby server remuxes the above urls instead of passing them directly to the media player. So when you view the logs you see your emby server :8096 port and the stream url. This would not be a problem but certain streams freeze as a result of this action and thus the best solution is to just pass the stream untouched directly to the media player. I have been looking into the m3u plugins source code with jet brains dot peek (de-compiler) that i would happily modify the plugin so it passes the stream directly without remuxing. But this is not where the url gets molded and thus if someone could point me where to save me time would be great or better yet if it is a planned feature for direct playback for live tv to be what it says and really direct play not "direct remuxing" it seems to be misleading. Thanks keep up the awesome project looking forward to help with this.- 10 replies

Hello, I get this error when starting an IPTV stream. "Playback Error Exception of type 'MediaBrowser.Common.Extensions.ResourceNotFoundException' was thrown." This issue is intermittent. Occasionally, about every 5-10 attempts, it is successful, and the stream plays. Additionally, playing the m3u stream URL from VLC player works every time so I feel the issue is on my side. I have added agent and referrer http headers with no change. Server logs attached with debug mode. You will see the last entry in the log is successful playback after repeated failure. No changes made. I did notice the my m3u URL in the log has some invisible characters added to it when pasted into notepad++. Not sure if this is relevant or just a logging thing. I am moving from a Windows Server to Linux. Tried the backup and restore, but after restoring to Linux, the system just kept giving me weird problems. For example, it would keep telling me that library folders were invalid when I was changing them to the unix format. Got fed up with it all and decided to skip the restore process. Well, that certainly cleared up any problems I was having. Now, I just need to get select data from the old server and manually copy it to the new one--LiveTV Channel guide and my Recordings. Thankfully, all of the media is on a separate NAS and totally available. So... Looking at the windows box, I believe I need to pull some files from the Program Data folder: C:\Users\LocalUser\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata, and put them into the unix program data folder: /var/packages/emby/var. Which files exactly do I need to copy for Recordings and LiveTV channels? I am also betting that I may need to edit the data to use Linux paths as opposed to Windows. Thanks!

Hello Is it possible in livetv to assign a m3u to one or more users? I have two IPTV subscriptions with two streams each. I would like it to be shared between the 4 accounts in the house. How can I do this? Thanks

Would really like to have a separate “Subtitle Mode” for LiveTV vs Library items. I typically only watch live tv for sports, which captions often are more of a hinderance than a help. I’m certain i’m not alone in this. Ideally would have “always” for library items and “No subtitles” for live tv on my profile. I have seen this very topic discussed in other areas of the forum but couldn’t find a feature request for it.

Enhancing XMLTV with TMDB Data: Specifying Posters and Backdrops
SalimRahmani posted a topic in Live TV
Hello Emby Community, I am currently working on enhancing my XMLTV file with data from The Movie Database (TMDB) to improve the visual experience in Emby. I have a few questions regarding how Emby handles images specified in the XMLTV guide data: 1. Posters and Backdrops: Is there a way to specify both poster and backdrop images within the XMLTV file so that they are properly displayed in Emby? If so, what tags or attributes should I use to differentiate between the two types of images? 2. Icon Tag: Currently, I am using the <icon> tag to include images. Could you please clarify what the <icon> tag corresponds to in Emby? Is it used as a poster, thumbnail, or something else? 3. Resolution and Aspect Ratio: What are the recommended resolution and aspect ratio for images included in the XMLTV file to ensure they display correctly and look good in Emby’s interface? I appreciate any guidance or examples you can provide to help me enhance my XMLTV file with the appropriate image data. Thank you! -
Are there any changes to having Brazilian EPG available on Emby? If not, any way the Emby team could share what is the application they use for the EPG? I am trying to use Epg. Best but it does not show images, some channels, and logos properly.

Hello, I am not usually one to ask questions however; I seem to be having an issue here that I can't wrap my head around. For the live recordings/DVR, they never seem to complete. After the recording, anything from say 2 minutes up to 15 or 20 is usually saved, rarely the whole entire recording that I schedule. Funny thing is I have sat here and looked at the dashboard and watched where it showed when they stopped, but it also showed that some complete as well but yet when I go to play them back, they are only 2 minutes to 15 or 20 in length and part is missing. What am I missing here? I have the recordings scheduled to start 1 min before and 1 min after, pretty cut and dry with that. Is there maybe some kind of conversion setting that I have turned on or something that needs to get turned off?

remote (outside of LAN) playback of live TV results in PLayback Error
jordy posted a topic in Live TV
Hi, I'm away from home atm, and trying to watch LiveTV. All I get is this: Playback Error: No compatible streams are currently available. Please try again later or contact your system administrator for details. Should I be able to watch it remotely? I'm in an position where TV reception is very poor - signal is blocked by trees etc, but I have good Mobile phone reception. EDIT: I can playback everything else (TVEpisodes and Movies etc) just fine so data stream is good. Any Ideas? Thanks Paul -
My Roku TV had an update and using my fire stick I lost both Emby and live TV. How can I reinstall live TV?

Hi, I hope somebody can help me out here. I have been pulling my hair this week setting up tvheadend. With so little useable online documentation I finally figured out how tvheadend works. I use online EPG portal to generate a list of EPG's I often watch and serve it up to Emby using the tvheadend plugin. All guide data was imported correctly, EXCEPT for one channel. Emby just does not show any EPG info for this particular channel. I did everything: rebooted Emby server, removed and reinstalled the plugin, rebooted tvheadend, finding and changing to another epg guide for this particular channel. Nothing helps. In tvheadend, the channel is showing up with epg: But in Emby Live TV: I don't know why this is happening to this channel. I turned on debug in Emby server but all I got is this line: I really don't know any more what else I can do, except ask for help here in this forum. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction to solve this problem. Thanks in advance!

When attempting to modify a series recording, the loading circle is there indefinitely and "Channels", "Air days", and typically "Air time" never populate with the current values.

1. tvg-logo in the m3u, does it just always map to "Logo (Dark Version)"? 2. how can the rest of the artwork be defined, presumably in the xmltv, for automapping like it does with the emby guide data ?

Live TV - TVheadend plugin - Why so simple, basic setup dont work in e
Mdaloha77 posted a topic in Live TV
Hello, I just tryied setup a Live TV functionality in emby and results are very! dissapointing. I run TVheadend at home network, so I install tvheadend plugin v. 1.5.2.0. from emby repository. Then I fill up http address and login information. TVheadend server registered emby as client (visible in tvheadend debug log) and allowed it to connect. But that was all unfortunatelly. No channels, no epg info. It just do not work. What did I expect? That so mature project as emby surely is, will have such a basic things managed better. For example, on my android 10 phone I did download app named TVHClient which is nearly 10 years old and when I put same login info into it as for emby...it just simply work from start. It downloads EPG info from TVheadend server and offer direct stream for to play. That was exactly what I was expecting from Live TV functionality. I do understand that there is more solutions for live tv functionality around, but TVheadend is a TOP project for live TV streaming and so there should by a TOP support for its functionalities in emby. Thx. -
When I try to watch a UHD HDR channel. The picture freezes every 3-5 seconds. But it's not the channel, if I watch the channel directly via VLC it works without problems. Does anyone else have this problem?

I need to be able to block live tv channels based on tag. This doesn’t appear to work. The user is still able to see and view the channel despite the channel being tagged appropriately and the parental control on the user being defined with a block by tag.

I have Emby Web 4.7.11.0 installed on a Synology 64bit NAS running DSM 7. The time zone on the server is set to match my location. UTC+10 embyserver.txt My TV Guide time indicators appear to indicate a UTC time zone. All channel guide information is incorrect. It appears that no adjustment to the correct time zone is happening. I was under the impression that Emby will adjust the information based upon the time zone of the host operating system. Is that not the case?

After streaming Live TV, if one starts streaming a "regular" piece of media without closing and reopening the app first, pressing play/pause on the Roku remote will cause the Emby app to restart streaming the Live TV channel rather than pausing the existing regular stream. It is required to press up on the remote then manually select the UI pause/play button to workaround this. Restarting the Emby app seems to clear its "association" with Live TV and the remote's physical pause/play button will pause/play a regular stream if Live TV hasn't been touched during that instance. If this is a known issue, is an ETA on a fix known? It's rather annoying because of muscle memory from basically every other streaming app. Using a Roku Ultra 2020 or 2021, official remote.

Over the past year Emby has begun to be a really good app for all my entertainment needs but there’s one feature I would love to see and that is a ease of use when it comes to swapping channels. On my Apple TV I have an app from my local TV provider where we easy can toggle between channels. To explain better I’ve attached a little videoclip with the feature they have on their app. FullSizeRender.MOV

Hello, Emby default recordings folder is `/var/lib/emby/data/livetv/recordings`. I want to change it to my mounted USB HDD `/mnt/Seagate/recordings`. I add permissions to default user 777 but when I choose that folder in livetv settings it's gone after I change site or tab in Emby and it record still in default folder. Regards.

It would be great to be able to configure channel groups in LiveTV, which can be selected in the guide view (maybe as tabs) so that we can more quickly navigate to preferred channels using the d-pad. Perhaps start with Favorites by default, but be able to add custom groups (similar to collections) which we can add channels to (Network, Premium, Basic Cable, Kids, News etc.).

Hi There, Accept my apologies I know this topic is posted already, but the solutions did not apply for me. I am having issue with channel logos loading. the source type for the EPG I am using is XmlTV, the EPG and M3U List I have is annually paid from IPTVSpring. if I manually go into each channel and edit image and then post the image link it will appear there after the task is run manually or automatically. (See my screenshot attached). additional info may need. * My Emby server runs on Windows OS. * I have lifetime Emby subscription * I have removed the EPG and reloaded. * I have backed up and removed all metadata for Live channels.

Hello, just discovered this program and it seems really awesome in general - I'm now trying to see if it fits my requirements, but I've hit an issue with playing a Livestream via LiveTV m3u tuner. The source livestream runs in 720p and VLC plays it back at the correct resolution, however the emby player only reports a playback resolution of Auto - 480p (visually it seems even worse than 480p). I've included the ffmpeg-transcode log of one of my attempts. I've tried to find settings in the server that pertain to my issue but couldn't find anything (most of the encoding settings seem to be recording-related). Would be very thankful for your help, I'd love to get this working and finally have a solution that actually works. ffmpeg-transcode-b8905aaa-dbdb-4962-b790-bb24b9148b88.txt
