  1. Hey guys. Sorry if this has already been asked before but I have been looking and can not find anything with my current situation. I am finding major problems streaming my films to my friends using the remote connection. I have tested this over two of my friends houses and the same thing is happening for both of them. Emby starts fine and video loads but doesn’t play or if it does play it buffers all the time and very choppy. I have tried playing the video with auto resolution and gone all the way down to 720p and still the same thing I have also tried different types of file containers mp4. And mkv and also films in 4K format all the way down to sd 480p formats and still the same thing. I know it’s not a internet problem on my end not there’s as this is happening with everyone I share my account with. I pay for a monthly subscription so I have hardware acceleration enabled and running of a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card. all streams are playing in direct streaming/direct playing unless quality resolution settings have been forced lower. I have also noticed that when a video is transcoding the video playing on the other end will not play even though it has already been transcoded. I am currently out at the moment but I will attach system logs when I am back but any advice now would be brilliant
  2. Hello everyone, I'm a new emby user since a week or two. But there is a problem that keeps occuring. When a streamed a video to my chromecast it showed subtitles, but this was only the first day. Now when I try to stream the same movie (or other) it doesn't show any subtitles. When I pauze the video on mobile when it shows a subtitle and than stream it, it will show that sentence for a split second and nothing after. Context: - I run my emby server on a synology - I use opensubtitles as automatic source - self added subtitles are having the correct naming (showed at the ? in emby) - I have searched the forum but didn't come across some solution Thanks for helping.

ANSWERED Music Max BitRate Stream Limit

hey Guys, Would it be possible to set a max limit on the bitrate for streaming music as normally most music files are max of 320kbps i have mine at the studio max of 1715kbps on each music file. i know you have a limiter for streaming on video but would it be possible to have a separate one for music streaming also, so when your playing your music in the car you dont have to worry about it freezing every few seconds. could be something like music streaming limiter - remote access remote access limit for streaming 96kbps 128kbps 196kbps 256kbps 320kbps Custom setting _________
  4. Hi all, Let me start off by saying I am glad to be done with Plex and Emby feels MUCH more consistent if not a little quirky so I bought a lifetime preimer pass, love it. So I'm stoked to be using emby. I started using emby in a VM but noticed my disk ops were bottle-necking emby so I installed Emby on a dedicated machine with the following specs: Intel Core i7-4770K 16GB DDR3 Ram Drives: OS Drive 128GB SSD, DVR Drive 1TB 7200RPM HDD, Media Drive 3TB 7200RPM NAS HDD Operating System: Window 10 Pro Build 1909 Patched all the way up HD Home Run PRIME TV Tuner while up front everything will be on 1 3TB disk I will be going out later today to buy 2 more 3TB Disks so that each library can live on their own disk. My Questions concerns are these: Why is there a considerable lag when loading titles? It takes about 12 seconds for a movie to start playing after I choose play.Full disclosure I'm still copying over media to this server but I don't think that should be an issue. There are gaps in guide. I can see all the channels my HD Home Run is reporting but some channels have no guide info but will stream. I have read on the sub that putting in a 10-series GPU helps? Can anyone explain this or let me know where I can go to read more about this / enable? The android app doesnt seem to be working great. It always gives me the option to sign into connect even though I'm pretty sure I've already done that, It's laggy and I'm not sure if that's my server or the app, other issues I'm not able to articulate quite yet. does the community have any thoughts on my setup and how I can solve the 4 issues above? Thanks!

    TVE Support?

Have the Emby team considered adding in TVE (TV Everywhere) support? This is a feature where using a online streaming provider(Philo, Sling, YT TV, Hulu etc) or CATV provider login allows access to those network Live TV streams. (they connect and load the streams from the network sites, not the service provider). I have been using Channels DVR and they have this feature in Beta and it works well. Using my familys Xfinity Login, i can connect many channels to the server, watch, record them just as if they were coming from my local HDHDR tuner. They also support unlimited streams since they are web streams. I am soon to drop my CATV package to the minimum basic, (and probably cancel it once 1yr contract left is up) and only use my family share stream account they setup to watch the channels that support TVE, which is most of the ones i want. If the Emby team could look into adding in TVE as a Live TV source, that would really make Emby a good All in One media server solution.
  6. I have a .m3u8 file that looks something like this: #EXTM3U #EXT-X-VERSION:3 #EXT-X-STREAM-INF:BANDWIDTH=614000,AVERAGE-BANDWIDTH=564000,RESOLUTION=480x270,CODECS="avc1.77.30,mp4a.40.2" https://example.com/270/prog_index.m3u8 #EXT-X-STREAM-INF:BANDWIDTH=1118000,AVERAGE-BANDWIDTH=1028000,RESOLUTION=640x360,CODECS="avc1.77.30,mp4a.40.2" https://example.com/360/prog_index.m3u8 This is a valid streaming file and the servers are responding. The file works in VLC and using ffmpeg command line. However when trying to play the file in Emby it fails. 7. This guy (HackersGame) do a successfully test streaming with Emby on the Librem 5 Linux based phone Welcome to the Emby world and Linux https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnbqjNvpupI
  8. i've been testing emby for playback of 4k/UHD files. when I play and 4k movie, it stops playback and i get a "loading" every couple of minutes. from the server management gui I see the following: The media is compatible with the device regarding resolution and media type (H.264, AC3, etc.), but is in an incompatible file container (.mkv, .avi, .wmv, etc.). The video will be re-packaged on the fly before streaming it to the device. Is MKV really an incompatible container in emby? This would really be bad for me because most of my 4k media is in an MKV format that I can stream directly to the TV with another media server software. any suggestions that don't require conversion to another file container? Thanks

    Add Sonos Support

Hi All, Would it be possible to add Sonos streaming to the Android app? In my head it would work in the same way as the Chromecast streaming currently works. I've been looking at some public APIs for Sonos https://github.com/SoCo/SoCoand it seems you make a UPNP connection to the device and can then send the track to be played as a URL. This would allow people to play their music at any location that had a Sonos device, regardless of if the server was on the same network. Regards, Llygoden
  10. Hey guys, When I use the m3u tuner and play .ts streams they just stop after 20-30 secs. Is there a way to buffer the stream or fix it to play these type of streams? Kind Regards, Daniel
  11. I am wondering what is best for raw quality of the video streams, local files and live tv playback, among the available options to use Emby on PC. Theater (standalone software) uses MPV Theater (Win 10 Store app) uses WMP Web browser (Edge, FireFox, Chrome, Opera) uses http streaming? A long time ago, i was using the stand alone Theater software as it had Madvr, but that was discontinued I would think that a dedicated software app would be "better" than web streaming in browser. In my basic quick "tests", I have noticed that the Win 10 app UI seems to be a tad faster and smoother, but it sometimes has issues playing some file formats at times. It also will obey my Nvidia GPU settings, such as the Edge Enhancement (sharpening) and other color settings i can toggle in the Nvidia Control panel. The standalone MPV based Theater software, has some settings for Hardware Acceleration, and it playback seems smoother than W10 Store app, but, it doe snot obey Nvidia GPU settings, no matter what settings I set for HWacc etc. (i think i need to use DXVA for it to do that?) Web browser streams....i do not know much about how that works, just that it sees to vary with each browser. Some will force transcode, others will do direct. Edge seems to be the "best" for overall media playback compatibility, but that browser I find to be unstable in general. Playback in the other browser....all look the same to me. (For Live TV, i tend to use the stock HDHomeRun app, as the video seems to have a tad better clarity as it is a direct stream from the hardware tuner. I am not sure what player that app uses though...don't think it is MPV. If i had to guess, WMP. It is also much easier/faster to browse and switch channels via its guide sidebar during live playback to view what is on other channels, something Emby does not have.) Anyone want to comment on their experiences or preferences on how they use Emby on PC.
  12. It would be use to have time-based internet streaming bitrate limits per profile. We've had problems for years with the various ISP's that our family and friends use over-subscribing their networks during prime time. Between the hours of 6-9pm, users have to manually drop their stream rate to 1-2mb to be able to watch anything... (usually AT&T is the culprit). If we could set the time/stream rate from their profile it would be nice.
  13. I have Kodi Leia 18 and have installed addons and not a single one shows any content on both my MacBook and my Fire stick. I enabled unknown sources and have an VPN service, I've tried eeeverything..how do I fix this? Thanks(:
  14. I purchased Emby app for my Fire TV 2nd generation already. From yesterday, I only saw a green screen when I streamed x265 contents from my video server. I have done cleaning the cache, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but they did not work. However, the same videos can be streamed no problem with the Emby app for WebOS on my LG TV. Would anyone know how to fix it?

    Video Streams Freezing

I was wondering if anyone could me with an issue I've been having for a little while. I seem to have issues with video streams freezing on playback. The client is still completely responsive but the only way to resume the video is to back out of it and resume. The server I'm using shouldn't have any issues with transcoding either because it's an eight core Xeon processor with hyper-threading. Any ideas? embyserver-63662889600.txt embyserver-63663045698.txt
  16. I like Emby enough that I bought a premiere license a while back but after discovering what I believe is a major security hole I'm rethinking using the server. Media streams do not require authentication. Steps to reproduce (using version 3.4.1.0): Note: this example is using a video but the problem persists for all content types. Log into Emby from your browser (in this example, Chrome). Open the developer tools -> Network tab. Filter the traffic by "stream.mov". Play any video and you should see a GET request show up. Copy the entire "stream.mov" URL. Fully clear your browser. Paste in the copied URL. Bam, video downloads without any type of authentication. Users can copy & paste this link, allowing unauthenticated sharing. Since it's a GET request anyone can sniff the requested URL, regardless of HTTP/S, and grab whatever you're watching. After NomadCF's reply & more research I found the rest of the URL is not accessible over HTTPS. So this concern is void.I can't be the first to notice this. Suggestions welcome; No I can't force all users through a VPN.
  17. Hi I'm a newcomer to Emby, having installed it yesterday, so I'm sure I must be doing something a bit dumb: I'm sure someone will see immediately what I'm doing wrong, but I've scoured Google and the forums with no luck... 1. My setup I have a Synology DS918+, running Emby 3.4.1.0-1. I have an Emby Premiere subscription. I've pointed Emby to my media folders, which contain a mixture of MKVs, AVIs, and MP4s, as well as movies in .iso or .dvdmedia (Mac) format. 2. My issue The movies with the .iso files appear in my library fine when I look at them from an app (iOS) or a browser (Safari or Chrome on MacOS), and when I click play I (usually) get a 'loading' ring for a little while, and then the screen fades to black as if to play (and I get a small logo with the film's name in the top left) all as expected. However, I get no video or sound, even though I get the progress bar moving. The stats all seem to say sensible things (type of audio, resolution, bit rate, time left to play etc.). This is all when connected to my local network (I haven't tried streaming remotely yet) and the issue is the same irrespective of whether I'm using my laptop (MacOS) or my iPhone. Strangely, if I select the 'download' option from the Emby library screen, the film will download on my laptop as an MP4, which then plays fine locally (using VLC, for example). 3. Movies in .avi. .mkv or .mp4 files all play fine. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance Andrew
  18. I have couple of users who are outside my network but still can access my server via vpn. I set a bitrate in the playback settings of 1mbit. "An optional per-stream bitrate limit for all out of network devices. This is useful to prevent devices from requesting a higher bitrate than your internet connection can handle. This may result in increased CPU load on your server in order to transcode videos on the fly to a lower bitrate." But it doesn't look like it's working. I want to limit anything outside of my network to 1mbit and force transcoding. Here is my setup: There is NO access from WAN. Server side: 192.168.1.0/24 <-- SITE TO SITE VPN --> 192.168.10.0/24 Remote site It seems when the users access server from 192.168.10.0/24 emby just direct plays content there is no limit. the files that are being played are huge (1080p/ 4k etc... ) so that saturates my upstream immediately. Plex solves this by a setting that you can set "Networks that belong to local net" and anything that's outside that range is considered remote and limits are enforced. Is there a way to implement this?
  19. Hello community. I have the following problem with my Emby Server, I have loaded an m3u list with IPTV channels, the list works fine as I tried it on VLC without any problem, but when playing the channels via web or using the app for android or windows, the playback stops and then closes on all devices. Do I need to do something extra on the emby server or, what is the problem? I post the logs. Log2.txt Log1.txt

    ANSWERED Performance issues

I have a server consisting of the following hardware: Asrock N68C-GS FX AMD fx 4800 8 GB of Dual Channel DDR3 1600 RAM A generic usb 3.0 drive as boot drive A seagate barracuda 3TB HDD for media storage Ubuntu server 16.04.3 as OS playback on Chrome on a windows 10 pc When playing videos, the playback seems to drop very often and buffering seems to take forever. However when looking in the dashboard I often see that the server is either direct streaming or transcoding at over 60 frames per second. I also notice that when playing media firstly the process takes up around 60 to 70% of the cpu, at which point the playback is fine. However after some time the process disappears, and the playback stop, it then takes about a good 5 minutes for a new process to start streaming the media again. I have tried reinstalling emby-server as well has tried multiple versions of ffmpeg, however nothing seems to work. I hope someone else can spot the issue and bring me the sweet joy of smooth video playback GeneralLog.txt transcodingLOG.txt
  21. My music collection consists of uncompressed flac files. Before I move head with Emby I need to know if I play a flac file to the mobile app over tower using my data will the file be transcoded to an mp3 file, and downgraded so I do not kill my data? I looked in the settings of the app, and I do not see a setting to set Music Quality to tell it to stream at a certain bit rate. I see it for movies, but not for music. Also, I seen someone mention about the app cashing the music file while listening to the app, I see the web client already does this, it would be great if the app did this as well. iBroadcast does this, it will cache the song while playing, and then cache the next song after it, its a really nice feature to implement if possible?

    IPTV plugin. Streaming list

    Very poor streaming quality

I'm getting very bad streaming quality from Emby in scenes that feature a lot of movement and individual objects. I have the transcoding setting set to highest quality (except for CRF which is 1 instead of 0, else nothing plays). My server's CPU usage is <5%, so that's not throttling the transcoding. The quality only drops during fast scenes or scenes with a lot of detail, and the drop is significant enough to disrupt pretty much any movie or TV show. Movies with lots of on-screen details are nearly unwatchable. How can I correct this? 24. So, i've set up Emby, and it seems to work fine over the internet. I can play to my tv, and i can access it as a server. Now, i just can't seem to figure out a way to acess it without the intternet? Is this possible? I have an old modem/router connected to my desktop. NO internet. I'd like my tv to be able to log into the WLAN and to be able to access and stream my files from there. Quick question: Does anybody else find that they can't navigate their media via their tv remotes? forward/back/pause?

    Streaming over HTTP safe?

Hello guys! I'm new to Emby but I like the program very much! I have one little problem, can't get the HTTPS function to work: the server doesn't generate a SSL certificate. But that is not my question today. Because my HTTPS is not working, I no stream via HTTP to locations outside my home network. Normally I don't stream a lot, but now, because of the holidays I do stream a lot. My question, is it safe to stream over HTTP. Because everyone can watch what I'm streaming would I not be marked for piracy or something? Because I'm up-and-downloading files that are protected by copyright. thanks in advance, kind regards, Ronnie van der Woude
