Unable to play 4K DV AV1 files

I have an issue on both android apps the android TV app and normal android app. Both apps are able to play 4K AV1 and 4K Dolby Vision HEVC just fine, however when I go to play 4K Dolby Vision AV1 it just buffers forever. I also tested with other AV1 files like 4K HDR 10 AV1, all played fine, only DV AV1 failed to play I have also tested on other devices, and methods, 4K DV AV1 plays fine in browser and on my PC, it also plays fine on the android app on my phone, it only seems to become an issue when trying to play via an android app on the TV On the server dashboard Normal android App, nothing shows up, the request to play doesn't even seem to get to the server. AndroidTV app, the request to play gets to the server, the server shows it as playing, everything shows as direct play and the progress bar and everything is moving along like it would if it was being watched, however on the TV all you see is a buffering circle, the stats for nerds on the TV shows it as playing and as direct play, but there's nothing except for a buffering circle being displayed However the android TV app seems to have issues playing any 4K AV1 files while the emby for android app plays all except DV AV1 fine I have attached log files, I was trying to watch house of the dragon, season 1 episode 1. My TV supports both AV1 and Dolby Vision My servers GPU is an Intel Arc A40 pro and supports AV1 decoding and encoding. The issue only appears to be with Dolby vision AV1, there is no issues with Non DV AV1 files and no issues with DV HEVC files embyserver.txt

    Playback Freezes

Same issue I have. Can happen at any point in media playback. Latest was at 542 am in my logs today. You can ignore any log entries regarding a Sonarr Tagging Plugin. That’s a personal plugin development project I’m working on and installed it last night. This has been happening for at least 3 weeks without that plugin. I’ve tried deleting and refreshing all metadata since there were some entires about bad “People” paths from my move to docker last year (from Windows). I’ve deleted and reinstalled the clients but it happens on all of them. I’ve tried stopping any scheduled tasks, but this can happen mid day so decided that wasn’t it. Transcode and media metadata temp cache are all being done to ram now to speed up things. All emby configuration files exist on ssd cache. embyserver 4.txt

    Playback Freezes

Not a 100% the same situation, but maybe this will help you as well: I’ve fought this for a while and finally pinned it down to mostly EAC3 (DD+) 2.0. What happens: during heavy skipping/fast-forward, the picture and audio freeze and I have to hard-restart. Root cause (in my setup): with Auto detection, the Denon AVR sometimes treats DD+ as 5.1 instead of 2.0. That mismatch seems to trigger the lock-ups when seeking. Workaround that fixes it every time: Leave the Denon on Auto normally. When the content is EAC3 2.0, press the MOVIE button on the remote and select a Dolby mode (Not atmos or anything else). After forcing the correct mode, I can skip/seek as much as I want without freezes. Also: I’ve seen this with the Samsung TV’s native app and with a different receiver before the Denon, so I don’t think it’s strictly a Denon bug. The fix is to make sure the AVR is interpreting the signal correctly (2.0 in, 2.0 out) and not engaging upmixers/post-processing that confuse the stream. Double-check the AVR’s Info screen: it should show Input: DD+ 2.0 and Output: 2.0 when you’re on affected titles. PS: I used AI to help me write this.

    Playback Freezes

Hello. I’m experiencing playback freezes when using the Emby for Android (mobile) app on a TCL 55 C7K TV running Android 12 (not Android TV). When I try to fast forward or rewind videos (both HEVC and AVC), playback freezes — the picture stops, and the interface becomes unresponsive for several seconds. Sometimes I have to force close the app to restore functionality. The issue occurs consistently during Direct Play. In ViMu Player, seeking works smoothly without freezes. In the Emby for Android TV app, freezes also happen but much less frequently than in the regular Android version. Device: TCL 55 C7K Android version: 12. Emby for Android app: 3.5.12. Emby Server: 4.9.1.80. Subscription: Emby Premiere (Lifetime). Playback mode: Direct Play. Tested files: MKV AVC 1080p, MKV HEVC 1080p. Network: Local LAN, no proxy or VPN. Please check this bug. Thank you for your work and support!
  6. Hi As topic says, the sound get out of sync after pause ore change of episode. I would say twice a day, roughly. If we skip/rewind one click back, it's back to normal. The sync problem was around this times to day: 07:33 and 12:17. I'll upload both the Android log and server log But at approximately 13:34, something other also happened. Emby or the Shield stop sending picture, just sound. Screen got black but the sound was playing nicely. Is this something that is showing in the log? Thanks in advance emby_android_1761770872719.txt embyserver.txt

    Playback Freezes

Im using the Google TV streamer. It seems to crash during ff & rew. Sometimes the app freezes, sometimes the streamer itself reboots. I'll try to find a log file and forward it.
  8. Hello, I should have made this post long ago, but these things have finally annoyed me to the point that I had to make it. I would like to preface that I haven't use the tvOS app yet, and I'm expecting it to behave in the same way as the android and android tv apps. Changes for Android, Android TV and tvOS: The play/pause media button / physical button shouldn't bring up the UI when I pause the video. This prevents me from seeing subtitles and content. If i wanted to bring up the UI i can just click the select button (the button that you use to navigate), or the arrow up or down button. The media player UI on Android has been changed for the worse compared to Android TV in this one regard: When you skip forward or backward, the whole UI shows up compared to just the seek bar. In my opinion either prevent it from showing up or change it back to how it used to look. In payback settings add a media player UI timeout setting, so that we can control the time it takes for the UI to disappear after the video starts playing/skipping, beginning from 0s. All of these changes can be added to payback settings. Windows and macOS: Using Space bar for play/pause shouldn't bring up the UI, similar to the above you can use the "enter/return" key or arrow keys if you wanted to see the UI. When skipping the ui shouldn't appear at all, since you have arrow keys and mouse to do that, and unlike with the Android, Android TV, tvOS you can't get rid of the UI by clicking the back button. Just like with the Android, Android TV and tvOS you can add all these changes in the playback settings. I'm expecting this to be changed quickly since most of these changes should be a one line of code, except of the seeker UI overhaul for skipping in the Android app.
  9. Before something stopped it from working, the highlighted metadata in the screenshot used to be displayed on my television whenever I navigated to content using Emby (client) on Android. Then, it suddenly stopped doing so and I don't recall changing any setting that would prevent it. Which setting do I check to make sure I've not accidentally disabled it? Thanks in advance, Bill

  11. embyserver.txti run a debian 12 server with version 4.8.11.0. my client is a Fire TV Cube (3. Gen); tried both apps "Emby" and "Emby for Fire TV", both had the same issue. i sent a report from "Emby for Fire TV" at 16:34 EDT. the logged in user was emby, the media played Shutter Island. playback was direct, no transcoding. connected via network-cable. media info and playback info attached. server-log attached (there might a "Fringe" playback happening in there aswell). i am not able to reproduce on chrome-web-player. (PC) i am not able to reproduce on Kodi EmbyCon 1.11.37. (Cube) during playback this evening i noticed a buildup of audio-desync over time (audio went faster than video, sound before motion). this was resolvable by either switching the audio tracks (dts-hd <-> ac-3; ac-3 is audio-description so i always "toggled") or skipping back and forth. (skipping introduced a new bug though; after a couple of seconds the video stopped, but audio not. after that i got a couple of frames running from time to time, then again video stopped playing, audio not). did an explicit "test-run" after i finished the movie; around the time of the sent-in report (~16:30 edt). this did not happen playing ac-3, only dts-hd got out of sync. im very sensitive when it comes to lip-audio-desync. i got around 10-15 minutes of playback until i noticed, after that the de-sync felt like growing faster. i cant put it in numbers, but i assume a few 100 ms at that point. "fixed" it and resumed watching. there were no error messages displayed. this is the first time this has happened to me. other medias played without these issues. dts-hd had some playback issues from time to time though. never with Kodi EmbyCon. embyserver.txt
  12. Hello Emby team, I am the developer of JellyWatch, an Android application designed to monitor and administer Jellyfin servers (for example: active sessions, users, tasks, etc.). Currently, JellyWatch only supports Jellyfin, but I would like to add the possibility to connect to and interact with Emby as well (e.g. viewing sessions, users, etc.). Before starting development, I would like to confirm whether such integration is allowed, in accordance with your terms of use, licenses, or available APIs. Here are some of my questions: Does Emby allow third-party (non-official) applications to access the server via the API for monitoring and management functions? Are there any legal or contractual restrictions (license, copyright, API terms of use) regarding the use of parts of the Emby API by unofficial client applications? If yes, what are the conditions to comply with (API key, attribution, brand usage, usage limits)? Is there any official Emby API documentation I should follow to ensure compliance? If the integration is permitted, are there any technical or version constraints (Emby server versions, API stability) I should keep in mind? I am fully committed to respecting any clauses, attributions, or rules you set, and I am open to collaborating with you to ensure the integration remains compliant. Thank you very much for your time and your feedback. Best regards, Max

    Android auto issue

I hope the moderator will move this post to a more suitable topic if I have posted in the wrong place. I have the Emby server for Mac installed on my Mac Mini at home and access my server remotely on all my devices with great success. I also have used Apple Play in my car, but just switched to Android Auto when I got a new Android phone. Everything works fine for accessing music on my new Galaxy Flip 7, but when connected to Android Auto, if I had been using Emby on the last session, the music auto starts on the exact song I was listening to when I last turned off the car. This is normal, and that is the way I have Android Auto set up to resume. The weird glitch is that when the car is restarted and I hear the music playing through Emby, it initially sounds like I am listening to music over a telephone line and broadcasted over a shortwave radio. The bandwidth is very constricted. I am still trying to narrow down the circumstances when this issue replicates. It seems to go away, over time, i.e. after a few minutes when I switch to another app and come back, or even browse to a different song in Emby. It only begins on startup when Emby was playing during the last listening session. If the restart occurs with a different app in use during the last session, playback which automatically starts when the car does is normal. The restrictive bandwidth is only temporary and only when resuming through Emby. I have not been able to replicate this behavior when simply listening directly through the Android phone. All is normal. This seems to be an Android Auto only issue. I use an adapter to give me wireless Android Auto but this issue was also present in an older adapter as well, using a different Android phone. I am going to try switching back to wired Android Auto to find out if the problem is also present in a wired connection. I suspect it won't be and that this glitch is then isolated to the wireless adapter. Before trying to trace this issue down, I would be interested to know if others have experienced anything like it before.
  14. I have a local only server, and my android device reconnects daily to the same network, but syncing does not start automatically and watched states are not synced with the server, except on random occasions that I don't quite understand. I have to navigate into the server settings from the android device and manually start the Convert media and Transfer media tasks, which 'works' but only if the Android client sent the watched states to the server. I know about the two locations to manage downloads on android: The lower middle Downloads button on the home screen that lets you navigate into TV or Movies and play them The gear icon next to a Downloads row on the home screen which lets you see conversion progress and manage downloads I have used Plex Downloads for a long time and it worked great but their recent Android overhaul completely broke the basic functionality (automatically downloading N episodes, and refreshing on reconnect). Emby Downloads playback is overall a better experience except for this syncing issue. So, in short, there is a problem with the Emby Android app syncing watched states for Downloaded episodes. If the server gets that sync data, that episode is deleted locally, and the next unwatched episode is Converted and Downloaded when scheduled. I have not found any scheduled task which activates syncing watched statuses from Android > Server. To get Emby Downloads to work I have to: Reconnect to the servers network after watching episodes elsewhere Connect back to the server in the app using the saved IP config Manually mark each episode that was watched on Android as a watched episode on the Server Manually delete the downloaded watched episodes on Android Manually trigger the Conversion task through server settings Server Version 4.8.11.0 Android Version: 3.4.67 Other info if it matters: I have the android client go into airplane mode every night I am not using Emby Connect so direct IP connection and no communications with the server while away from the servers LAN The success rate of syncing watched status with the server is roughly 20% (2-3 out of every 8-10 watched episodes sync watch states)
  15. I did a quick search and didn't see any requests like this, so hopefully this is not a duplicate. The situation that lead to this request was primarily relating to podcasts, but I'm sure there are other situations and use cases for this functionality. Background: I started a new podcast a friend recommended, said podcast is actually a video podcast rather than audio. It seems to work fine and all, but when I go to listen on my mobile device (Android phone) using the Emby app, because it's a video I'm locked into playing it as a video. If I lock my screen it stops the playback, if I minimize the app to go to another app it only stays playing if I keep it in the picture in picture mode with the video still on screen somewhere. For the first situation I can use the lock controls button and just leave my screen running to drain down my battery, but for the second situation it's kinda obnoxious to have that PiP window up. Request Version 1 (in my mind this is more ideal): Enable a playback option (maybe under quality) to force it to an audio only stream through transcoding. Would have the added benefit of saving data usage on the mobile device as well. Request Version 2 (more basic, probably easier to achieve?): Enable a setting or something to where videos can keep playing on the mobile app even if the screen is locked or the app is minimized to the background.

    Downloads on Android not deleting

Hi all, When I delete a file on the Emby Android app, it seems to delete from the app but when I inspected storage on settings it still showed the downloads as on my device (confirmed via DiskUsage app) and I have to clear data for Emby in order to actually delete them. Has anyone else experienced this / know how to fix this? Thanks!

  19. Hi Team, I'm currently using the latest build of the Android Universal app (the version that works on Android TV). I've tested playback of the same file on Emby Web, and everything works fine there. However, I came across a thread mentioning issues with SRT and ASS subtitles on the Universal app. Is this a known issue with the current version? Edit: I converted a SRT subtitle file to an ASS subtitle file using Aegisub, and it seems to work on Universal? Thanks in advance!
  20. As the Android TV app is being deprecated in favor of the Android app, I've been trying to determine if my favorite features are or will be supported. One of the features in the Android TV app which I have come to really like is when playing music after 1 minute of no user input, the currently playing song's album art is displayed with the song info (i.e. title, artist, and album) underneath and artist art rotating background. The clock is in the upper right, timer/total song time in the lower left, and the playlist position (current #/total) in the lower right. When the user selects "next" (by simply hitting the remote's right arrow button) the next song begins with the same display configuration. Simple, elegant, and yet useful. This is not the playlist view which contains many more options. As far as I can tell, this (exact) display feature does not appear to be available in the Android app. The Android app seems to have something similar (i.e. playlist toggle). Yet it's different because all of the player options (e.g. previous, pause, stop, next, mix, repeat, settings) remain visible, the app's background (e.g. "Blue Radiance") leaks through and washes out the artist art, and the remote's right arrow button doesn't advance to the next song. Is there a way for the Android app to currently match the Android TV app music player display feature(s)? Would these (hiding player options and right arrow advancing the playlist) be new feature requests? Would the background and artist art clash be considered an "issue" to be fixed?
  21. Watching AV1 videos on Emby applications (Android and MacOS) without server encoding (Direct Play) is really bad. Playing AV1 videos works really smooth in browsers on the same devices (Samsung Galaxy S20 and MacBook Pro with i7-8850H).
  22. perhaps this already exists and I haven't found it? There is an Android app that allows one to WiFi remote control iTunes/Music, locally. It's called Retune. If one is running iTunes as their music "server" locally on a Mac, you can remote control within the WiFi range. It is fairly simple in that allows previous/next song, mute and volume control, within iTunes. It allows you to see the library, history and up next. Since Apple f'kd up iTunes with the "update" to Music, many have dropped it. I only use Emby for music playback. Since iTunes/Music is part of the OS and Emby is a 3rd party, perhaps this isn't possible? But it sure would be handy when playing music on the home system to have a Android remote with these features. IE: dinner in and hard rock comes on and I'd like to skip to the next tune without getting up to go to the server Mac.

Not casting from mobile to TV.

Hi Guys, Emby Server: Windows Laptop Emby Client: Android Mobile TV: Chromecast Ultra Connection: Wired & Wireless - I'm not even going to pretend to know the network setup. It's not mine and it's beyond my understanding. The server laptop is hardwired to a router. I connect via the mobile client through WiFi and cast to a Chromecast device on TV. It has been working perfectly since I moved in here, 6 ish months. Last night the hardwired laptop started having connectivity issues. Mobile device could not access server, found laptop had no connectivity. This has been resolved. As of now I can connect to the server and access my library on my mobile device. I can playback on my mobile device, as well as the local machine. However casting from the mobile device to TV shows the Emby splash screen on the TV, and thats it. No media backdrops display upon selecting a movie. And attempting to play a movie while casting is unsuccessful. TV screen just shows a spinning circle. And no media controls appear on the mobile device. Thanks in advance for your assistance. Logs attached. embyserver.txt embyserver-63872899890.txt hardware_detection-63872899904.txt
  24. When will there be a new update for the server version? There have been no new updates for several months and the same applies to the Android version. And will there be native support for Zidoo, especially Z9X Pro, at some point? So that you can use the emby player instead of the external Zidoo player. P.S. I am an emby Premiere user and would like to see more progress in further development.
  25. What are some cool but underrated Android Features on Android that most people don’t know about? those little things that make life easier but don’t get talked about much. I feel like there’s so much hidden stuff in Android that we miss out on.
