  1. I've just installed a fresh install of emby on my ubuntu server, previously was running as a plex server (i'm hoping to switch) My media is located on a nas drive externally and i have mounts setup using cifs, i can access the external media by doing cd /media/plex/shows cd /media/plex/movies Both of these mounts show up in plex but during the emby configuration wizard browsing to /media shows only /media/CDRom Is this a permissions issue maybe? If so what user / permissions should i grant to access these mounts? Thanks
  2. I have an Ubuntu server, libreelec media player and a windows media player. Data is stored on a synology NAS. libreelec (standalone KODI) doesn't allow me to setup a mount point identical to the Ubuntu server so I use the shared folder option in order to direct play from the Synology NAS using the mount point I define on the libreelec. All works fine. From time to time I also use an old windows box to preview movies before I play them on my main system using a copy of Kodi. There is no nfs mount point equivalent in Windows that looks like a linux mount point (afaik). The first time I tried the windows Kodi recently I realized that is was working. I checked the Emby dashboard and it indicated that playback was direct play. Which is how the emby addon is configured. ?How is this working? Obviously this isn't an emergency but knowing how it works may clarify my understanding. Thanks

Question about my local network settings

Hello I just recently as of yesterday became unable to access the web interface of my emby installation. It was on 3.4.1.0 when it happened so I updated to see if that would fix it but it is still inaccessible. When I try to connect to the local IP via 8096 or 8920 I get a blank page that says invalid host. Tried firefox, chrome, and ie. Both chrome and FF gave the invalid host but Internet explorer said error 400. I have tried clearing cookies and cache but no luck. when logging into the server it shows that the emby service is running and nmap shows both ports open. Unnecessary Transcoding H.264>H.264

Server knows that the device is eligible for direct play according to the logs but only gives transcode options anyway. server: custom build x86 hardware ubuntu 18.04 emby 3.4.1.0 athlon 5350 emby runs from behind a nginx proxy (if deemed necessary will post configurations) client: sony xperia z3 android 6.0.1 snapdragon 801 (hevc supported) same result for my samsung my s7 edge, transcode options are set to default. logs included but cut first post here thank you in advance Log server cut.txt log transcode cut.txt
  6. Hi. I'm new to Emby and I have everything up and going except for one thing; I would like to integrate it into my own domain as a sub-domain using Webmin/Virtualmin. I am running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS server with the latest version of Webmin/Virtualmin and a main plus 7 sub domains (including Emby). However, if I create a site using Webmin/Virtualmin it creates an Apache site and as a result is not functional with Emby. The site must be HTTPS and I have now configured the Emby server's SSL (using Let's Encrypt) but if I enter the sub-domain using HTTPS it defaults to my parent / holding domain which is simply that, a holding domain with no functionality except a simple "Offline" page. I can tell you the domain and sub-domain here but before that I want to make sure that it's OK to post private domain names in the forums. Is there a way to "move" the default installation into a pre-created structure which I use for my sites without messing things up or are there configuration files I need to change in order to accomplish this? I keep reading about nginx on here and also reverse proxies but I'm not sure if that's what I need to do or whether a simple move / reconfiguration would be adequate. Sorry if this sounds simple to some but to me in my current state and wisdom (currently on long term sick which unfortunately effects my mind and how I can or can't explain things) I'm finding it hard to comprehend how I can go about doing this. 10 years or so ago this would have been a doddle but these days I'm afraid not so well;.please be gentle with me. Thanks for taking the time to read and I hope someone can hold my hand and lead me up the correct path. Chris
  7. Preface: I haven't seen an upgrade of Emby pushed to my Ubuntu 16.04 server in some time, thought it was just taking awhile to push the packages to the OpenSUSE.org servers. I've found many threads referencing or explaining different ways people have switched from managed packages to several different methods of upgrading Emby, but I can't seem to find an original thread explaining what the situation is and why people are trying to migrate methods in all kinds of different ways. Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse here, but I can't seem to find any thread plainly epxlaining the situation and why/how I should be managing my server packages now. Thanks devs and community members.
  8. I'm running the emby server on my ubuntu 16.04 server. It has worked well a long time. I just did a "service emby-server restart" and I got a crash that looks like this ... $ service emby-server status ● emby-server.service - Emby Server is a personal media server with apps on just about every device. The report-a-problem guide doesn't help. What should I try next?

Greetings, I'm running Ubuntu 16.04.01 with the latest updates as of now. Outside of normal system upgrades, I've not done anything that might cause this issue. It was working fine yesterday, but not today after a reboot. 10. Hello everyone! I'm new to Linux, so please forgive me if I've made a stupid mistake - but I'm having an awful time getting the latest versions of Emby to install on Ubuntu 17.10 Artful. Here is what happened: I had Emby running on 16.04 LTS, and attempted to perform an upgrade, and it went south. I didn't pay much attention to the error, and purged the installation, and started from scratch. That failed as well. I then started with a fresh 17.10 image on the same hardware. I received an error (I'll give details in a bit). I re-installed 16.04, and ran into the same error. Now I'm on different hardware, running into the same error. 1. Download X64 package from emby.media/downloads 2. Launch terminal 3. cd /home/emby/Downloads 3. sudo su 4. dpkg -i emby-server-deb_3.3.1.0_amd64.deb Note: Below is actually from when I attempted to install Beta - but the results are the same. High CPU Usage when idle on 3.0.7200.0

Hi all, Is anyone else experiencing unusually high CPU usage on 3.0.7200? It started on 3.0.71 but has not gone away since. It is extremely high even when nothing is going on, no users accessing the system, no scheduled tasks running, and no hung processes or transcodings found using 'ps aux |grep emby'. Here is a screenshot of htop: As you can see from the log, no activity is being logged. The only entries are me viewing the web interface. Anyone got any ideas? I have tested this with Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Opera and they all give the same result (Firefox and Edge show the poster and loading icon). Everything works fine when connecting directly to emby (emby.mydomain.com:8904). Any help would be much appreciated.

    Emby Location / Logo

Hi, I'm new in this forum and have a little question. Yesterday I installed emby on my Ubuntu Server 16.04. Now I want to know where the files are located on my Ubuntu Server. I did not change any locations or something. I was looking for the emby logo and read something about "/emby-server/system\dashboard-ui\css\images" but I could not find this file (emby-server) on my Linux. So maybe you could help me Regards erixschueler
  17. Hello guys, After running Plex for a long time, I decided to switch to an opensource alternative, given all the new anti-privacy measures taken by Plex. I'm having a problem however: I did a fresh install of Emby 3.2.34.0 in a LXC container running Ubuntu 16.04, the server is not powerful enough to transcode high quality stuff, but this is not necessary. However, even when I do a DirectPlay, the CPU is utilised at 100% in the FFMPEG process, even though transcoding is disabled for the user requesting the stream, the stream play just fine, but it is strange to see this process running when no transcoding is present. Plex used only a few % of the CPU when Direct Playing or remuxing. Very strange. This problem looks similar to a problem people had a few weeks ago when using Emby with live recordings. Is there someone who can help me? Kind regards, Ronnie FFMPEG LOG.txt
  18. I found a number of other threads with similar symptoms but not quite the same hardware; The closest being https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/45550-transcoding-performance-vs-that-other-server/ I have a no-name i7 mini PC ("Intel® Core i7-7500U CPU @ 2.70GHz") running Ubuntu 17.04 Recently installed Emby (release) next to Plex and paid for Premiere because it seems like a right thing to do. Anyway trying hardware transcode with the default ffpmeg fails: [AVHWDeviceContext @ 0x50d4520] No VA display found for device: /dev/dri/renderD128. [vaapi @ 0x312f1e0] Failed to create a VAAPI device But using the system shipped one (/usr/bin/ffmpeg) works OK, in ubuntu 17.04 is claims: ffmpeg version 3.2.4-1build2 Copyright (c) 2000-2017 the FFmpeg developers built with gcc 6.3.0 (Ubuntu 6.3.0-8ubuntu1) 20170221 Hardware transcoding works, CPU usage is reasonable (70-80% of one core) but playback stutters - play 10 seconds, stop 5, play 10 seconds, stop etc. Not sure what this means (yet), but the only noticeable errors in the log are: [h264 @ 0xc6763beea0] Hardware accelerated decoding with frame threading is known to be unstable and its use is discouraged. Input stream #0:0 frame changed from size:1920x1080 fmt:yuv420p to size:1920x1080 fmt:vaapi_vld Unrepairable overflow! I've changed the CRF to 19 (from 23) with no difference, I've set the temporary path to a local scratch SSD with lots of space, turned off throttling. No effect. I have yet to try one of the custom ffmpeg builds, but looking at the log it's not the conversion performance that's the problem: frame=10024 fps= 67 q=-0.0 size=N/A time=00:06:58.34 bitrate=N/A speed=2.81x frame=10047 fps= 67 q=-0.0 size=N/A time=00:06:59.30 bitrate=N/A speed= 2.8x frame=10073 fps= 67 q=-0.0 size=N/A time=00:07:00.39 bitrate=N/A speed= 2.8x On the other hand, looking a bit more manually I *think* the stop/start is every time the m3u8 file is updated but "tail -f" doesn't work on that file for some reason, so it's hard to visually sync the changes to the display - just lots of repeated "ls -l" I also tried the beta but with the .net install it seemed to not quite work so I hurriedly backed out deciding that a pre-release of a new system is not quite the right thing to do just now. Any immediate suggestions and/or which logs would be useful? Peter

    Repository not available

Hi guys, One thing I have noticed quite frequently is that the repository for emby seems to be missing/not available quite a lot. I notice this whenever I run an "apt update". Currently I am running Ubuntu 16.04 as my server. My sources file is: deb http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/emby/xUbuntu_16.04/ / It works sometimes, but seems to be down quite a bit. Going to the actual site the xUbuntu links or folders do not seem to exist atm. As you can see from this screen shot.. nothing there. Is this a known issue? And are there alternative mirrors I can use? Thanks Talung

    Server Freeze During Offline Sync

Good Morning, I am experiencing an issue where overnight, the Emby Server goes unresponsive. I can no longer putty into the server & Emby is no longer accessible. At the terminal itself, the keyboard & mouse are unresponsive as well. The machine has to be turned off & back on again to come back up. The Emby Server is hosted on Ubuntu Server OS. We experienced a similar issue due to plugins when we first cut over to Emby Server, which was resolved by removing all the plug ins. The common denominator now, is that this only appears to occur when I add a large queue of Movies & TV Shows for offline sync. When we travel, it is not uncommon before a long flight, for us to add movies/tv shows for offline sync to a Fire HD 8 tablet with a 200 gb sd card. Absent adding a large queue, this issue does not occur. The Emby Server itself has "local" useable storage & also has access to storage on a local network file server. Content is stored & pulled from both, depending on what it is. Any thoughts on how to resolve this or what my be occurring? Best- Darren Last Log Before Unresponsive, server-63641808000.txt

Hi, I just did a clean install of emby (Version 3.2.26.0) on a brand new Ubuntu 17.04 (GNU/Linux 4.10.0-30-generic x86_64) host, restored my database and everything appears to be working flawlessly. Failure setting up Emby (my first time) I have a hard drive in my 'server' that contains all my media. It is formatted as NTFS. I have it mounted from the fstab. listing of files/directories show as ... -rwxr-xr-x 1 bric bric 110914782 Jun 16 21:11 Finding Dory-trailer.mov drwxr-xr-x 1 bric bric 4096 Jul 30 15:09 Home Video I added emby to the group owning the files on that drive. So the groups command returns: emby: emby bric When I try to add the media library (in the web interface) either with /path/to/mounted/drive/Movies or //192.168.0.10/Movies or //MyServer/Movies I get this error: More info needed? Suggestions about what to try next?

Crash on startup with Ubuntu 17.04

About 20 minutes ago noticed that emby-server is not running, restarting the server makes it appear "active" using service status, but it crashes immediately after that. I've been running Emby on Zesty (4.10.0-20-generic x86_64) for about 3 weeks now, had no issues before, so I'm not sure what caused this. sudo service emby-server status shows this Б≈▐ emby-server.service - Emby Media Server Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/emby-server.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled) Active: inactive (dead) since Tue 2017-05-16 21:30:34 MSK; 9min ago Process: 10617 ExecStopPost=/usr/bin/emby-server clear (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) Process: 10571 ExecStart=/usr/bin/emby-server start (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) Main PID: 10571 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) п╪п╟п╧ 16 21:30:31 HTPC systemd[1]: Started Emby Media Server. п╪п╟п╧ 16 21:30:31 HTPC su[10571]: Successful su for emby by root п╪п╟п╧ 16 21:30:31 HTPC su[10571]: + ??? root:emby п╪п╟п╧ 16 21:30:31 HTPC su[10571]: pam_unix(su:session): session opened for user emby by (uid=0) I attached the log from /var/lib/emby-server/logs.
