  1. Hi All, I have mostly made posts moaning about how stuff doesn't work right/the way I want to, but I'm going to give back to the community today! For the TL;DR skip down a few paragraphs, just me venting my woes I go into how I got hardware acceleration to work when it wasn't and everything said it should have been on an Ubuntu LXC container I originally built a FreeNAS machine, on which I planned to store loads of stuff including media, and saw that it had media player plugins. I didn't think too much of it at the time (except I didn't want to use Plex because my experience with it showed that it wasted resources/was the 'dummy' version) so I specced out my server and I built it. I chose a Sky Lake/Kaby Lake cpu for a number of reasons, but one of them was the iGPU. I tried using an Emby plugin but that didn't work (now know it's a whole .NET issue with FreeBSD) and then tried a Docker container of Emby - worked fine, but no hardware acceleration. I wasn't sure why, but I knew I needed more power in the server for the transcoding and other stuff I was using it for so I got a Kaby Lake Xeon cpu, making sure to get one with an iGPU, and kept on plugging away. To cut to the chase: - found out I needed to pass /dev/dri to docker - found out I needed VAAPI to get use of the gpu, but FreeNAS did not support it so it would need to be in a VM and FreeNAS was going through lots of changes - looked around for a few other operating systems that could be used for my purposes, tried OMV - it didn't like ZFS - landed on Proxmox, perfect for my needs - can spin up debian/ubuntu LXC containers easy peasy while passing through whatever I want from the root OS & can make VMs for other OS'/things I want more secure - found out that my motherboard had the C232 chipset & I needed the C236 chipset to use the iGPU - Finally bought the right motherboard Honestly, you would think I had done absolutely no research! But a lot of this was new to me and I didn't realize what I would be using the machine for (didn't know how much use I could get out of Emby per se - I already had an HDHomeRun and Apple TVs...). So I swapped in the right motherboard (plus I got some more SATA ports - gonna be cloning my zpool later to a much larger one w/ more redundancy since I'm using the machine for work too now) and went about making sure that dev/dri and fb0 were passed through to the Emby LXC container. *****Skip to Here***** At this point I double checked that everything was being passed through to the container (eg lspci) & went through the Emby documentation (they state that it Emby should have all the drivers that it needs built in, e.g. their own FFmpeg build). However, when I would play a file that was a direct feed it played fine, but when I tried playing a 4K HVEC or 9/10Bit/VP9/VP10 whatever they actually decided to call that, the video would just load and never start. I went into the console and VAAPI was indeed installed and showed that it was able to decode/encode the appropriate files for my cpu. Checked the log - it looked like FFmpeg was doing it's thing and transcoding the file writing stuff to the temp folder and including a transcoding rate (e.g. at one point it said it was transcoding at 66.6 x frames ). I was about to post on the forum, but I really really really have been wanting to get this working. So I looked around and I found the following site, or rather series of files from the VAAPI sites: https://github.com/intel/media-driver The genesis before that link was basically that VA API needed some extra libraries/intel media SDK to operate depending on the OS/CPU. So that link is for an addition driver that has links to two other libraries that are needed first (libva & GmmLib) along with their dependencies/reqs to build them. Follow the links and cit clone those libraries over to a build directory, make them and install them. For less experienced people the GmmLib instructions are less clear: after git clone GmmLib, make a build directory for cmake & change into it you issue the cmake command with '-DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release', the site just shows you the possible options. I left out the -DARCH=64 bit because from what I saw on the internet others didn't use it, but you DO need to reference a cmake build file for the command. That is in the root folder of the build folder you made. so either add '..' at the end or '/wherever you git cloned to/gmmlib' to the end of the cmake command and it will run. Then you do the make -j8 command followed by the make install command. Once those two guys are added I git cloned the media-driver bit in, followed the instructions, restarted the container and honestly didn't expect anything to have changed. But hardware transcoding started working like a charm! I do NOT know if it was a combination of those libraries, if it was a dependency of libraries (or maybe just me having to reset the BMC a bunch of times b/c my fan control script was acting up, but I highly doubt that's what it was) but after the above everything worked. As a final note, I don't think this is a shortcoming of the Emby team. As far as I can tell people are using hardware transcoding via the VAAPI files Emby installs just fine. Maybe it had to do with the specifics of my case - Emby running in an LXC container, the LXC container running inside of Proxmox, the fact that because I have IPMI the BMC has it's own video device that are seen in the OS'. I'm just happy I got it to work (maybe can help the Emby team do some investigating) & hope this can help others save some time. Cheers!
  2. I installed emby in Ubuntu Bionic Beaver. Installation page for Live TV doesn't detect the usb tv tuner. Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-955Q I know it works because Kaffeine is running it fine. . . Anything you can suggest to get this device to run on the Media Server? -K

    Chromecast

Hey, all -- I have just a few videos that won't consistently Chromecast. Messing with rate settings and such hasn't helped. I'm running ArchLinux with Emby Server 4.3.1.0 -- I've tried a bunch of different client devices, including an Android phone, Arch laptop, and Windows. The client doesn't seem to matter. What's fun is that it's specifically Chromecast with these files. They'll play back fine in the Android app and web player, and most of my files Chromecast just fine. I've attached the Emby log statements from one attempt, and here's the file metadata. testcase.log metadata.txt

    ANSWERED Grouping results in duplicates

Hi all, I'm attempting to use Emby's "Grouping" feature to combine two versions of a video into a single listing. However, when I do this I instead am left with two listings, each showing the two versions (see attached screenshots). I've tried rescanning the library, but that hasn't helped. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Emby post-processing dvr script for linux

I thought I'd post my emby post-processing dvr script. Tested and working on Debian Linux 8.9 Files processed end up being named *originalvideoname*.ts.mkv so i can search by that and make sure recordings have no issues. After I look at them, I manually rename to just .mkv. I do not have automatically convert recordings checked or the two preserve boxes checked under live tv --> settings. Script flow: see if lockfile exists. if so wait 60 sec create lockfile commerical scan and commerical cutting ccextractor to pull out closed captions and convert to srt file Encode to h264 using ffmpeg and combine in srt file from previous step Trim off first 60 sec from recording (due to iptv delay you get a minute from previous show. I have recordings set to last 1 min longer in emby record. The shows using my OTA tuners start early by 1 min to compensate) Remove srt/extra files Overwrite original ts recording delete lockfile Depends on: comskip, comcut (comchap optional), ccextractor, ffmpeg I eventually want to fool around with a nvidia gtx 1050 and see how nevnc with hevc/h265 works on the ffmpeg encoding line. Software h265 encoding on very fast saves an additional 30-40% space on same setting as h264 on medium but my encoding framerate goes from 420fps (14x) to 69fps (2.3x) on dual Xeon e5-2670s. The picture looks pretty much identical when i look at them side by side post.sh emby script #!/bin/csh set path = ($path /usr/local/bin) set lockFile = '/tmp/dvrProcessing.lock' set origFile = "$1" set tmpFile = "$1.tmp" set tmpEncode = "$1.mkv" set tmpEncode2 = "$1.2.mkv" set tmpSrt = "$1.srt" set dvrPostLog = '/path/to/embydvr/dvrProcessing.log' set dvrLockLog = '/path/to/embydvr/dvrLock.log' #Wait if post processing is already running while ( -f $lockFile ) echo "'$lockFile' exists, sleeping processing of '$origFile'" | tee $dvrLockLog sleep 60 end #Create lock file to prevent other post-processing from running simultaneously echo "Creating lock file for processing '$origFile'" | tee -a $dvrPostLog touch $lockFile #Mark and cut commercials echo "cut from '$origFile'" | tee -a $dvrPostLog /path/to/embydvr/comchap/comcut --lockfile=/tmp/comchap.lock --comskip-ini=/path/to/embydvr/comskip.ini "$origFile" #Pull CC from file to SRT file echo "Pulling Closed captions from '$origFile' to SRT file" | tee -a $dvrPostLog ccextractor "$origFile" -o "$tmpSrt" #Encode file to H.264 with mkv container using ffmpeg and mux in CC srt echo "Re-encoding '$origFile' to MKV file while adding cc data" | tee -a $dvrPostLog /usr/bin/ffmpeg -i "$origFile" -i "$tmpSrt" -map 0 -map 1 -acodec copy -scodec copy -c:v libx264 -preset medium -crf 23 -profile:v high -level 4.1 -deinterlace "$tmpEncode" #Trim off first minute echo "Remove first 60 sec of file" | tee -a $dvrPostLog /usr/bin/ffmpeg -ss 00:01:00 -i "$tmpEncode" -vcodec copy -acodec copy -scodec copy "$tmpEncode2" #Remove SRT file echo "Remove SRT file" | tee -a $dvrPostLog rm -f "$tmpSrt" #Remove tmpEncode file echo "Remove tmpEncode file" | tee -a $dvrPostLog rm -f "$tmpEncode" #Rename transcoded file to temp file in case no subtitles echo "Rename 2nd transcoded file to tmp file" | tee -a $dvrPostLog mv -f "$tmpEncode2" "$tmpFile" #Overwrite original ts file with the transcoded file echo "Removing '$origFile'" | tee -a $dvrPostLog mv -f "$tmpFile" "$origFile" #Rename .ts file to .ts.mkv echo "Renaming '$origFile' to .mkv" | tee -a $dvrPostLog mv -f "$origFile" "$1.mkv" #Remove lock file echo "Done processing '$origFile' removing lock" | tee -a $dvrPostLog rm $lockFile exit 0

Thinking of changing OS to MAC

So I have been thinking for awhile of changing my Servers OS to MAC. This is mostly due to the intrusive updates that are forced on us Windows10 Users and the bloatware that is constantly being reinstalled by these forced updates. Like xbox gamebar, etc and several others. I did figure out that by using Shell i can remove a lot of these programs I dont want or use but whenever their is an update these programs are forced back onto my PC using Data, which is expensive nowadays, and disc space which I like to keep clear for my needs not Microsofts attempt to get me to use programs I have ZERO interest in. EDGE is a huge irrigation as well. I remove it and it comes right back. Its as if Microsoft somehow knows I just shelled the hell out of their bloatware and they want it back on ASAP. Im beginning to think Windows OS is more or less spyware now as the years go by. I used to love Microsoft. But that has all changed and it wasnt a sudden distaste either. To to put insult to injury they pin that crap to my Desktop as to say, HEY BUDDY! Heres your internet browser you need to use! Serious BS. Also the new GET HELP for Windows10 infuriates me and I like the old troubleshooter. But it is either gone or buried in the OS some place. Also I find it funny that on the Microsoft help sites you have all these people saying that the majority of these programs cant be removed and are hard coded into the OS and they have to be there for it to work. This is an obvious plow to get people to keep programs on their PC that Microsoft gets paid to put on them. Really they are just trying to discourage people with misinformation. I read about a registry hack that can stop the updates but that was a couple of years ago someone had posted that and if I was terrible company like Microsoft Id patch that out as soon possible because, darn it your gonna get force fed the updates whether you want them or not. I hate companies like this. The only option is to postpone updates for a a week at which time they will force update you. I have read that MAC does not do this to its users. If so thats wonderful. Some of the best news Ive read all day. My server is a big part of my life and I use it constantly so the fewer issues I have obviously the better. Im just sick of Microsoft and need some good advice. Other considerations are of course just going to Linux Mint or something similar. I run KALI on my Chromebook so I am familiar with the struggles of changing an OS and how difficult it can be. Course Chromebook is a bit extreme considering the length at which you have to go to to get the darn OS on a system that doesnt like you doing that sort of thing and fights you the whole way lol. I do enjoy UNIX based OS though as Im an old IDX/IBM/DOS guy. I dont use the PC for gaming, I have another one for that, or anything else really. Mostly I just keep it running just for the server. So an OS that is light on the resource consumption is something I thought about a lot. Microsoft is not like this especially when the Antimalware crap decides to bog down the PC even though I already have a dedicated antivirus and dont need or want their default crap. All this said i would very much like to hear from the community about their thoughts and experiences with MAC OS as I worry about any compatibility issues from switching I might have. Cheers
  7. I recently set up Emby on my PC running Linux so that my mom could easily watch stuff on her Chromecast, and it worked great. I use both Windows and Linux (specifically Pop Os) and today I booted up Windows and configured Emby there too. Everything seemed to be working fine until my mom told me she was unable to get Emby working on her Chromecast (stuck on "Ready to Cast"), which seemed weird because I tried it on mine and worked perfectly. After trying several times, restarting, opening ports, etc., I just decided to try booting the server on Linux, and her Chromecast works now! The only problem is that mine doesn't anymore, so it seems like once a Chromecast connects to an Emby server, if you switch to a different OS and run another server it will refuse to play files. Hope I can get this fixed because it'd be very frustrating if I have to switch to a different OS every time someone wants to use the server.

    Nothing want to start

Hi ! So this night with no reason, my emby server decided to not transcode movies and all of stuff on it. Here is my log file : https://paste2.org/9cFkEk0p
  9. I wanted to share my fail2ban configuration for people that want to protect against a brute force attack. Fail2ban is a piece of software that will monitor log files for a authentication failures then ban the source ip address after so many attempts to protect against a brute force attack. I searched around for an tutorial or how to on how to implement this for emby and came up short, so I decided to give it a try and got it to work without much trouble at all. I wouldn't consider myself an expert and this is my first how to I have every written so if I made a mistake or I'm wrong let me know, and use my instructions at your own risk. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK THIS PROBABLY WILL NOT WORK IF YOU ARE USING EMBY CONNECT I'm not using emby connect because I think it has some security problems listed here https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/80497-log-out-security-hole/ You need to install fail2ban For my setup with ubuntu 18.10 I used, (should be the same for debian but I haven't tested) sudo apt install fail2ban To get fail2ban working with emby there are two parts, filter and jail, they both have their directories (jail.d) (filter.d) in /etc/fail2ban/ cpeng@g5500:~$ cd /etc/fail2ban/ cpeng@g5500:/etc/fail2ban$ ls action.d fail2ban.conf fail2ban.d filter.d jail.conf jail.d paths-arch.conf paths-common.conf paths-debian.conf paths-opensuse.conf The jail controls what happens with an authentication error and the filter tells how to read the log to find the error. Create a filter: cpeng@g5500:/etc/fail2ban$ sudo nano filter.d/emby.conf /etc/fail2ban/filter.d/emby.conf # Fail2Ban for emby # # [Definition] failregex = AUTH-ERROR: <HOST> - Invalid user or password entered ignoreregex = EDIT: New failregex proposed (below) by @@nayr to catch 401 errors and attempts to find valid user names [Definition] failregex = AUTH-ERROR: <HOST> - Invalid user HTTP Response 401 to <HOST>. The failregex tells what the log line will have in it that designates a fail and "<HOST>" designated the actual ip address. That error looked like this: 2019-12-24 11:12:00.326 Warn HttpServer: AUTH-ERROR: 10.9.162.31 - Invalid user or password entered. So I assumed that AUTH-ERROR will be unique to login errors which is why I started the filter with that. Next you have to create the jail in cpeng@g5500:/etc/fail2ban$ sudo nano jail.d/emby.local /etc/fail2ban/jail.d/emby.local [emby] enabled = true filter = emby logpath = /var/lib/emby/logs/embyserver.txt port = 80,443 I use a reverse proxy that uses ports 80,443, but if you aren't doing that then you want to block the default ports 8096,8920 The logpath may vary from distribution, you can find yours in your dashboard under paths. There are other options that you can add, my default ban time was 10 minutes and max number of retries was 5 which is default which seemed fine to me. The last thing you need to do is reload fail2ban so it re reads the files. sudo systemctl reload fail2ban Then test by entering the wrong password into emby and confirm that it blocks you. Check out the fail2ban.log at /var/log/fail2ban.log tail /var/log/fail2ban.log For testing this command might also come in handy: sudo fail2ban-client unban --all Hope this is helpful. P.S. I recently switched from plex to emby for the dvr service and so far I have been very impressed and happy with how it works. I got tired of all the bugs with plex, that would never get fixed, instead we got new "features" and new interfaces. The icing on the cake is how responsiveness the developers are on these forums.

    One Piece naming, Help!!!

I am done with naming One Piece Episodes. Previously i watched Naruto and Naruto Shippuden without any headache (Thanks to this forum post - Naruto file naming) I have downloaded total of 837 episodes. Initially, it was named 'One Piece - 001 to One Piece - 837'. After library scan, both "Absolute" and "Aired" order, i get this annoying problem. This never happened with Naruto or Naruto Shippuden , episodes named S01E001. I tried naming 'One Piece - S01EXXX, One Piece - S020EXXX' etc. Moreover, i tried 'One Piece - S01EXXX to One Piece S01E837'. Yet i face this annoying problem. Device used: RPi4 & Jetson Tx2 The problem: Why their is a Specials??? Please help me,

  12. Hi, I’m moving my Emby install due to install issues with my distro. When I moved Emby to the current distro, instead of pulling the metadata from the saved NFO files and the images also saved within the media itself, it pulled from online - even when there wasn’t any data and overwrote a bunch of data that I had worked really hard to get right. Now I have to start all over fixing those erasing days of work that I have to redo now. Is there a way to get Emby to pull from the saved NFO and images first - and only download if I’m missing metadata so that it doesn’t overwrite the good data that’s been saved? Thanks so much for any info or assistance!
  13. Emby log attached, I can find and match all the items in the library but inside them there is no season . Playlists - need help understanding

Hello, We use playlists a lot for video files. In fact, it’s the primary reasons we moved over from Plex, because Emby has so many more options for dealing with playlists. However, in using it, I’ve learned that there is an oddity with the way that Emby deals with playlists. When Emby makes a playlist, if more than one version of a file exists, Emby chooses a non-specific or random version of the title that you add to the playlist. The user has no idea which version it chooses or why. It won’t always choose the highest or lowest resolution, or the mkv or HEVC. There’s no apparent rhyme or reason. So, if you have more than one file and make any changes to those files (delete the low res version for instance, leaving the other files intact or rename a hard drive - adding the new location while the first still exists to be sure everything matches up), even though those files are still there under the media title, it wrecks or even deletes the playlist automatically. I find this strange. So, I cannot specify if I want Emby to use the higher def version of a file. It just uses what it wants. However, if that file disappears, instead of just using/playing the alternate file that’s still available for that show or movie title, instead Emby deletes the playlist altogether. Also, for instance, I recently had to move the location of the files on my media drives. I had the files added to my TV Libarary from both drives simultaneously and all the files were pointed to the same titles. However, when I removed the original drive, all my playlists were deleted - even though all the titles were still there, the files were still there, and nothing has changed. I nevertheless lost all my Playlists - once again because they are based on files not titles. What’s more confusing is just now knowing what files it’s choosing to use as the basis for the playlist. This means I have even less control because I have no idea what Emby is using. Is this a bug or was it designed that way for some reason? I’ve not come across playlists behaving like this before. I like Emby better than Plex, which is why it’s our primary media server now but just as a contrast, regardless of the files and drives that one adds to Plex, the playlists don’t change because they are based on the media title, not the specific files attached to those titles. So, if the files for any given title are changed behind the scenes, it doesn’t wipe out the playlist. I’m wondering why Emby, too, isn’t making the playlists based on the titles themselves, not the files. This would allow the files relating to any given title to change while still keeping the playlist intact, if it based upon the title (letting Emby simply look to play whatever files are available for that title). I’d love to hear more about this and perhaps why Emby behaves this way. It’s puzzling, especially as we don’t have any option to choose which files it’s adding to the playlist (for instance the lower or high res, if there are more than one). Any thoughts you could share would be brilliant. Thanks so much in advance!

    Emby Misbehaving

Hello, I’m having a few issues with Emby. I’ve worked hard on my current install making all the images and metadata correct. I have all data and images being saved into the media folders. Everything was pretty much setup when suddenly, all my movies had no images showing at all (oddly descriptions/metadata is fine, it’s only the images that seem to be the problem. I can’t figure out what’s wrong and can’t seem to sort this out without overwriting all the custom metadata, too. The images are in fact, in the folders (I checked) but Emby isn’t actually pulling/viewing them from within the folders. This happened suddenly, with no warning and no changes made. Secondly, many of the actors/other cast/crew are not showing up correctly. Where an image should be, there’s an empty placeholder. This time rather than being all of the actors/cast/crew, it’s just a random few. When I do a force refresh and let it replace images, it will fix it but I cannot seem to do this on a larger scale - I’m having to refresh one person at a time, over and over and over again. Second piece, I’m also in the process of moving my Emby install to a new distro (I’m having too many problems with my current distro). Everything is pretty much installed (though I had a terrible time being able to have the server actually show up). Now that I have, I noticed that Emby isn’t pulling the data from my local folders. In fact, in many cases, it’s overwriting all the data I worked so hard to get right. I followed the instructions (installed Emby, setup a new server, added my Emby Premiere, installed the Emby Backup plugin, grabbed the previous backup and used it on the new Emby Server). However, I can’t figure out why it’s pulling data from the internet first and actually wrecking a ton of work that I’ve done on fixing many of the titles. Emby is doing this by overwriting the images and even metadata that is stored in the media folders. It’s like it’s ignoring that data and I don’t know why. Worse than ignoring it, it’s overwriting it so that all the days of work that I’ve done, I’ve completely lost. Any help would be really appreciated. I’d love to not only fix these problems but understand why it’s actually doing them. Thanks so much in advance!a @cayars

    Poster image issues

Hi, I’ve been trying to clean up my Emby install/media since I moved it to a different distro. I’m trying to get my images all the way I want them. I’ve noticed a lot of them are quite small (around 400x550ish). When I click on the search icon to find another image, then I click on the image, I’m having something strange. Used, to, Emby would just use the new image and the image chosen would be whatever size it is in the search option (often 1000x1500). However, now, even though the images are actually 1000x1500, when I choose the, Emby is somehow reducing their resolution to the 400x550 (ish) size. I can’t seem to get it to just use the image size as is. What could be causing this? Is it a bug, an issue with my install, something else? Any info would be brilliant! Thanks in advance. EDIT: The actual dimensions Emby is using for most of the poster right now is 400x578. It’s never done that before, especially since it’s not the size that these images are in the databases that it’s pulling from.
  18. Hello, I recently moved over my Emby install from Linux Mint over to an OpenSUSE Tumbleweed install. A lot of it went fairly smoothly but playlists are not one of them. There are a lot of my playlists showing up, many have duplicates - about half with the correct photo half with no photo. When I click on any of them playlists, none of them show any files actually in the playlist so it can’t play anything. Moreover, when I go to TV shows or movies to add items into the empty playlists, when I click on add to playlist and it should bring up all the existing playlist options, there is absolutely nothing there. I’ve freshly added one playlist to see how that worked and now that single playlist is the only one showing up as available to add files to. When I visit the playlist library however, it shows I have 254 existing playlists (again, with no files in any of them). Any help would be brilliant. Did I miss moving some data over? Will I have to start fresh on the playlists? If so, is there any way to delete the playlists more quickly? One by one deleting and recreating will take forever with 254 to deal with. Thanks so much in advance!
  19. Hi, I’m trying to setup Emby on my Intel NUC. I’m new to OpenSUSE Tumbleweed (though not to Linux) and I’m struggling to get this sorted out. I’ve had Emby running on Mint for sometime now. Goal: to setup & use Emby (Emby software apps is already installed and running) Hurdle: give Emby access to the media files (stored on external HDDs) I have external hard drives formatted as exFAT and NTFS (I’m working on switching them all over to exFAT but not there yet). I currently have my primary username set as the owner of the drives and the group is set to “users” (of which my user was the only member). I used YaST to create a new group called mediaservers and I added Emby, and my user to this group. I thought that way, I could give the Emby access to the media files but not necessarily to any/everything else that my user group could access, if other things were owned by the group “users”. I attempted to change the owner/user group of the HDD partitions to my newly created group, but it’s not working. On one drive, it appeared to work (when I changed it as my own user, not root - I didn’t get any error messages and it appeared to finish the job) but on other drives, I keep getting error messages saying that I don’t have the privileges to change some of the files. When I check the owner/group of those files, it’s showing that it’s owned by my normal user and group - so I don’t understand why I don’t have the privileges to change this or even what’s different about these files because the owner and group appear to be the same as all the other files on the drives. However, even the drive that appeared to work doesn’t actually “save” the new group - it switches right back to the original “Users” group. I even tried to change the group as root. One the drive that appeared to work previously but didn’t “save”, I ended up with the same outcome and got the same error (not enough privileges) on the drive that had that error. Basically, exact same outcome when changing these as root as when changing as my standard user. So, I decided to take a different approach, desperate for something to work and instead of switching everything over to a new group, I added the Emby group to my primary “Users” group that everything already belongs to. I’ve checked ls -l in the terminal to view all the drives and all users/groups/other are correct and all have full rwx status. But, I still have no ability for Emby to even see the media/HDDs. I also used the terminal to look at the groups and see if the Emby group was added to my user group. It was successfully added, as it should have been, but still have no access. I even granted one of the drives network access hoping I might be able to give Emby network access (I know, it’s not elegant or hardly even rational but I’m freaking desperate and nothing that I’ve done that should work, from what I can tell, is actually being successful). On a separate note, I currently have the drives mounted to the default location for external drives in oST/YaST (run/media/user/partition name). I looked into editing /etc/fstab and started by using YaST to do so (as was suggested by some other OpenSUSE users). However, when use YaST to do this, nothing actually changes in the fstab file (I’ve viewed it before/after to check and didn’t leave it opened while doing the edits in YaST to be sure that it was writable). Still no changes. Also, rebooting makes no difference on any of this either. Please know, I’ve searched, I’ve read man pages and blog posts, and wikis etc. I’m just lost & so frustrated. I’m not usually this inept at figuring stuff out. But it’s not even making sense to me now why it’s not working. I’ve added the right groups to the group and the drives are owned by this group that has full access. So, I’m wondering if it’s because of how the disks are are mounted - though admittedly, that doesn’t make much sense either. I’m just desperate. I’ve spent several days on this now and I can’t figure it out. I don’t want to go back to Mint/Ubuntu and the like. But I don’t know why I’m having so many issues and why YaST doesn’t actually seem to be making any of the changes I’m trying to make. It’s the same with the user/group changes. It’s almost like I wasn’t using sudo in YaST but it definitely asked for my password. Please let me know what other info/data you need. Please help. I’m not unwilling to put in the work. I just don’t even know what that work should be at this point since these things that I thought should be successful aren’t. Thanks so much in advance. Sorry for the wall of text. I just wanted to accurately cover what I’ve tried, what I’m attempting to do, and what hasn’t worked.

    Nvidia HW transcoding not working

Hi everyone! I am using Emby since years now and I am overall very satisfied with it. I recently wanted to step up the game so I purchased a GTX 1650 to do some HW transcoding (I was using software transcoding). So I did that, I followed all the guide I could find on how to install the Nvidia-driver than afterward the docket integration. Because yes my server was on Docker. I could not get it to work, i had a lot of errors in the transcode logs, and under Emby --> Transcode --> Advanced - I had no options there to check. So I found out that HW transcoding on docker was not really supported so I installed the standalone app with dpkg (the last version). What was my suprise when I finished the configuration (I started fresh on a empty folder) that I still had no options for transcoding with my Nvidia card. When I check the hardware detection log, the errors showing there are exactly the same as the one I was getting with the docket instance. The graphic card is working correctly, it displays the terminal when I plug it to my screen (since it's a server, there is no GUI and I am using the onboard VGA by default). So whenever I run nvidia-smi I can see the version of the driver installed, my card is showing there as well and everything seems fine. Here is a summary of what I tried so far : -restarted the server numerous time. -re-installed the drivers numerous times and from multiple sources, so either from the non free depot, from the Nvidia website or from their depot. -re-installed fresh Emby. -used the test docker on the nvidia-smi GitHub, and it was successful, so maybe it can be because the driver and CUDA version installed on my computer are too old for Emby? -verified that the user who is running Emby is part of the video and render group. -tried the beta version of Emby via both the docker and the standalone version, exact same behavior. Thank you in advance for your help everyone! hardware_detection-63728027283.txt nvidia-smi.txt

Live TV Linux (ARM64) M3U fails

Hi All, this is my first post, I joined to post a bug, I tried searching but could not find this error, nor in-fact, could I find a reference on how to post bugs, so here it is. EDIT: now I created an account I can now see "How to Report a Problem", odd I could not find this as a normal user. Emby 4.5.0.12 (beta) on an odroid C2, works fantastically streaming full HD direct play to my LG tv, it has replaced my Kodi NUC, bought lifetime premiere, and I have not looked back; except m3u. I add a m3u url for a set of free-legal stations, and it does not work. I tried the exact same m3u url on a separate install on my Mac, and it worked first time, all the channels appeared and could play - latest mac version i could find was 4.4.2. I downgraded the odroid to the same version to check if it was a beta problem, but no, same issue. Sorry if this is the wrong spot! 22. Hi guys, I'm trying to add a series, Chernobyl. Create the folder as follows. TV> Chernobyl 2019. Inside there are the files, example: Chernobyl.S01E01.mkv In the emby I created the type "Serie", I added the path, all right, but when I go to watch, don't download any given goal, the folder is empty, no episode appears. They only appear if I change from "Serie" to "EPISODES: Follow print.

    Emby Server requires write access

Alright so recently I had a crash because my OS SSD filled up. I run a 60gb SSD (which ive been meaning to upgrade) and I have always had emby store metadata and pictures and such within the media file locations. I also offload the transcoding temp location because at any given day its floating ~15-20gb of usage. I noticed the drive had 16gb of transcoding files for some reason. Reviewing my settings I tried to set my transcoding temp location and it throws the below error: "Emby Server requires write access to this folder. Please ensure write access and try again." System specs: Supermicro X8DTL 2x Intel Xeon E5645 24gb DDR3 ECC Reg mem 4x 6TB seagate Iron Wolf 60gb SSD Arch 5.6.6-arch1-1 Emby 4.4.2.0 I run a pretty simple drive setup, with all the drives mounted in /storage/ with their SD$ name as the mount point: Emby owns the storage directory, and all of the subsequent mount points and drives. I usually run a chmod 777 -R * and a chown emby:emby -R * I have always done this since the olden days of media browser (og user woot woot!) as I've found it prevents any issues with emby downloading metadata and subtitles etc / drwxrwxrwx+ 11 emby emby 4096 Sep 6 2019 storage /storage/ drwxrwxrwx+ 11 emby emby 4096 Sep 6 2019 . drwxr-xr-x 20 root root 4096 Jan 25 15:53 .. drwxrwxrwx 7 emby emby 4096 Apr 12 08:28 sda drwxrwxrwx 4 emby emby 4096 Mar 21 13:46 sdb drwxrwxrwx+ 2 emby emby 4096 Feb 19 2019 sdc drwxrwxrwx 6 emby emby 4096 May 23 13:57 sdd drwxrwxrwx+ 2 emby emby 4096 Feb 19 2019 sde drwxrwxrwx 4 emby emby 4096 Jun 7 2019 sdf drwxrwxrwx+ 2 emby emby 4096 Feb 19 2019 sdg drwxrwxrwx+ 2 emby emby 4096 Feb 19 2019 sdh drwxrwxrwx+ 3 emby emby 4096 May 1 2019 sdi /storage/sda/ drwxrwxrwx 7 emby emby 4096 Apr 12 08:28 . drwxrwxrwx+ 11 emby emby 4096 Sep 6 2019 .. drwxrwxrwx 1131 emby emby 192512 May 11 07:31 Movies drwxrwxrwx 147 emby emby 12288 Mar 15 18:42 TV drwxrwxrwx 3 emby emby 4096 Apr 19 03:00 backups drwxrwxrwx 2 emby emby 4096 Apr 12 08:28 metadata drwxrwxrwx 2 emby emby 6045696 Apr 22 07:24 transcoding-temp It appears that new metadata is not saving to media folders despite the checked options (see screenshot) Also a screenshot of the error has been added. It doesnt seem to matter where I set the storage to, if it be one of the 6tb drives or even a local directory, although it will let me put the transcoding temp as the folder above the default location (/var/lib/private/emby/transcoding-temp) Also I dont think there is an issue with the ACL for storage getfacl storage/ # file: storage/ # owner: emby # group: emby user::rwx group::rwx #effective:r-x group:emby:rwx #effective:r-x mask::r-x other::r-x default:user::rwx default:group::rwx default:group:emby:rwx default:mask::rwx default:other::rwx I'm sure if I got drunk and gave it a good 2 or 3 hours I could figure it out but I have zero free time right now.
