This is a strange question for me to ask considering that I work with enterprise servers everyday although they are almost always exclusively RHEL or Windows based (you wouldn't believe how many times I typed "yum install" rather than "apt-get"). In any case, I was sort of forced to abandon native Windows version of Emby Server for Ubuntu Server 15.10 with Emby Server installed due to issues with Emby not staying bound to the specified ports in Windows. What I am trying to figure out is what, if anything, do I need to do to make sure that Emby can natively transcode H.265/HEVC and other content when a device doesn't natively support it which is a rarity. Is there any particular codec packages for Ubuntu Server (and I do mean the server version; I don't need the GUI overhead) to get everything working within VMWare Workstation 12 or is everything packaged up in a neat little bow?

Not entirely sure where this is best placed, so I'll start here. I have Emby Server up and running on a Raspberry Pi 2 (YEAH!!!). The Raspberry Pi is reading a drive on a HOME SERVER that contains all my media. Seems to be working great. Then I have a HTPC running in my theater with Emby for WMC running and looking at the RPi. The library comes up fine, and all the artwork displays beautifully. But when I select a movie, and hit PLAY, nothing happens. It acts like it wants to start, I get a progress bar showing length of movie and the thumbnail, but nothing ever plays. I get no error or anything, just a blank dark screen. The movies play fine in straight WMC without using EMBY, so I'm not sure where it's falling apart. Any ideas welcome! And if this should be in a different area, let me know. Thank You Sean

Python script & Application for updating the server as a service
L.Fino posted a topic in General/Windows
Hii all Because the update process for the emby server (while it's running as a service) can be a bit annoying, so i made an application with a python script. It works no matter where it's located. You just have to unzip the *.zip file in the attachement. After that, in the unzipped folder run the "emby_update_v2.exe" as administrator. The application can be used with diffrent commandline arguments: /beta - Start normal with updating beta server, while its running as a service /dev - Start normal with updating dev server, while its running as a service /download - Start with downloading the regular version first /beta_download - Start with downloading the beta version first /dev_download - Start with downloading the dev version first /taskkill - Start with killing the process instead of stopping the service /debug - Start into the Debug Mode for debugging the functions. >> without an argument - start normal with updating the regular server, while its running as a service PLEASE NOTE: - The application normaly starts with the ability to stop the service at very first - If you know the service IS NOT running, start the application with one of the three 'download' arguments - If you have the Beta server service running, simply add the /beta argument in the commandline - If you have the Dev server service running, simply add the /dev argument in the commandline - If you have any kind of trouble, start the application with the /debug argument to try and/or debug functions Updater.zip -
Hey Guys, Currently experiencing an issue whereby access to my library items have disappeared since rebuilding an EMC client. The Emby Server remained intact, no changes made to network, IP addressing etc. The WebUI dashboard menu is blank where my library once was. All the config is still present in the library config page (albeit missing folder images). I rebuilt 'Documentaries' and 'Stand-Up' to see if that made a difference. Currently, the only way to access media is via MBPlus plugin (which was manually installed), otherwise I get the 'No items' in EMC. Everything is still there, I just have no way of accessing it directly via the menu's. Looking into the client logs, I can see some: (400) Bad Request (500) Internal Server Error Current Server version = 3.0.5801.0 Current EMC version = 3.0.292.0 Logs: Server here Client with no plugins here Client with only MBPlus here Apologies if posted in the wrong section, wasn't sure if Server or EMC issue.

I have problems with metadata for episodes on a couple of shows. Its mostly shows that has a name that is ambiguous with another show or for some other reason got miss matched. I have fixed the metadata for the "root" show but episodes are still identified as if it belongs to whatever the "root" show was identified as before i corrected it. Examples of shows that dont identify episodes correctly are The Flash, Scandal and Homeland. The flash and scandal was first miss matched because I don't use year in my folder names so that was to be expected (My current way of getting the episodes doesn't support that), cant remember what happend to homeland but it was some weird match for that one. Anyway I have fixed those shows via the "Identify" option in emby-web but the episodes are still not getting the correct metadata i have tried to remove all *.nfo files but after a new scan its still the same "wrong" info in them. I'll include some screen-shot of The Flash 2014 where the episodes for season 1 are matched as episodes from The Flash 1990? Is there a way to make the episodes metadata correct?

Does it matter on what PC in the network the EMBY server is?
flexy123 posted a topic in General/Windows
Common sense says that a "server" is usually the PC that is also directly connected to storage, for the fastest access to media etc. Situation: I have EMBY server on an ancient PC (haven't had time to upgrade this yet), running Win 7, so it runs EMBY and for playing media I use Emby for Kodi on this and other computers on the network. (The ancient PC is connected to my TV). Now I have one unused laptop that has better hardware (i5, 4GB etc.). If I move the EMBY server to the laptop, in how-far does it affect speed/delivery of content? All the content is "directly played" on various clients in the network with UNC network paths set-up. Say, one movie comes from //PC1/Movies/Movie1.mkv If I understand this right, this "direct play" means than ANY client has direct access to the file on the network much as if the client would play the file directly over the network. According to this logic it should not matter even if I move EMBY to a laptop, even if the laptop would only be wirelessly and slower connected to the network - since it wouldn't ultimately affect how media is delivered to whatever client? Am I correct there? The only "downside" here would be when EMBY is cataloging its database it would be a little slower since now EMBY (on the laptop) would have to access some storage media over the network, eg. as opposed to on the old computer where the HDs are directly connected? (For those who think why not use the newer laptop as EMBY server *and* KODI for playing on my TV, the laptop's GPU is worse than the one in the ancient PC.) My idea is to use the ancient PC as KODI playback machine only and (see above) move EMBY to another computer on the network to free up some resources. Any thoughts? Thanks -
Hi, I can't stop praising the Emby community for the excellent work they are doing. THe more I use Emby the more I like it. I'm hoping that through my testing and feedback i can contribute that little to the community. I have a problem which is think is a missing functionality rather than an issue itself. The problem occurs both with my Android app and with the web client. Basically, I set an access schedule for my son so that he doesn't watch movie when he is suppose to be sleeping. All fine to this point. THen, when i log on with the son's account and I am trying to do this outside the planned access schedule, I don't get any error message "You are not allowed to use Emby outside these hours ....". In the webclient it just keeps looping to the login window while the android app just hangs and keeps you waiting while nothing happens. In some instances, the Android app crashed and every other time i had to kill it. Surely this is because the server is not passing the right message to the app, something like "dear server, please let me in" and the server doesn't reply "oh, sorry you can't" so the app keeps waiting for an answer? Would this seems a correct interpretation. The logs are clearly recording what is happening (see below). Wouldn't it be sensible to get the server to post a reply to the app trying to access so that the person doesn't wait to infinity for something to happen? Carlos

Version 3.0.5482.4 I removed devices from my server on version 4000, and no devices would get re-populated in the list. I see the devices listed in the security area with an api key. I just dont see them repopulating in the devices area of the server, which limits me to not being able to assign users to certain devices. Is there any server file I could delete to get the devices to start filling in again.

I just installed Emby on a fresh copy of Ubuntu 12.04, did the wizard and everything. But i can't add any folders to the media library. I've tired different folders in the system, even a remote samba share but it still errors. 5715,Error,,Error getting response from http://server
glacket posted a topic in Windows Media Center
Hi, I am pulling my hair out trying to get emby to even work any more. It was working fairly well until the past couple of updates then everything just fell apart. I have the memory leak that others have mentioned with emby tv. when I try to launch emby most of the time it will just clock for several minutes. if, and that's a big if I get into emby, tv shows and movies load very slowly. I select tv shows for example usually it will be a blank screen and tv shows don't show up, same thing with moves. and it takes about 30 seconds to 1 minute or more to load. when I select a show I have to sit another minute or more. most of the time I get a wait or close dialog box and no matter what I choose, I have to wait and just end up ending task. this all happened within the last few updates. as new versions came out it gradually got worse and worse. the only pattern I notice on all my media center logs is 5715,Error,,Error getting response from http://server which to me would indicate hardware issue, but I checked everything and nothing is wrong. I/o speed for the array is strong, the server never goes to sleep and neither do the harddrives. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the server and clients serveral times. no changes. Any ideas? I am really at a loss at this point. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! MBClassic-9112015683b39771f2342aca11262ea757f80c4.log -
Hi, i'm trying to get the playon plugin to work and noted in other threads that the IP should be set to 127.0.0.1 in the settings of the plugin. I've tried that but, from what can understand there is no response to port 54479 on localhost. Is that the port on which the playon plugin is listening? I've attached the log of the relevant sections. CHeers Antonio

I have been hosting an Emby server for me and my friends to use and all has been going well except for that my college blocks most ports, I changed the public Emby port to 80 (just to test, I don't know if it would have worked) and can no longer connect to my server, when I try to connect I'm just showed "This web page is not available" followed by "ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED". I have tried connecting through my public and local addresses as well as trying the default 8096 ports as well as 80 which I had changed it to with no luck. I have also tried re-installing the server but can still not connect, when I try to connect it shows the Emby icon on the tab so something must be working but I have no idea what to do from here. If I could just get it back to how it was before on 8096 I would be happy. Thanks in advance, Alfie

I have both Media Browser channels in the Roku Channel Store and another older one I got 2 years ago from private channels. My server always connected to all of them before the server updates last week. Channels are version 1.78, 1.84 & the official ch. I cant get Media Browser to connect to my server since last update. I became a supporter and it links my account, but says unable to connect to server on my Roku. Wont play in Netgear anymore either. That one says Media Browser (Offline). Still plays in my browser. Please help. Would it still play in browser if I pasted the activation key wrong? Also my Roku doesn't show up in the selected play to devise area.

I configured the Server to search for subtitles in my language (Dutch, Flemish). This is working fine, but Emby adds the ".dut" to the srt-file. According to ISO 3166 and ISO 639-1 the more general option should be ".nl". I have the rest of my media configured with the ".nl" addition. To avoid discussions, I propose to make subtitle addition configurable. So I can set it to "nl" manually. This way everybody can be happy.

I am migrating my server from 1 computer to another. I installed the Server Configuration Backup plugin and made a backup that included everything, including user data. When I restored from the backup, I see the backup did contain this info and the checkboxes were selected when I restored from the backup. But when I view my collections, both from the web interface, and from the android app, the play state was not synched. Did I do something incorrect, or is there another step somewhere?

Auto organize by television episode title instead of season/episode #'s
computerprep posted a topic in Feature Requests
Could we please see an option to auto-organize television based on cross-referencing the episode's title if present in the filename instead of relying solely on the season/episode number? I can't tell you how many times I some of my toddler's television shows get mixed up in the season/episode information. Right now, I'm handling those manually, sorting them through a folder that's not being watched by Emby's auto-organize feature. I've seen another feature request for the option to add multiple watch folders to the auto-organize tool... this would be a perfect merger with that feature. A secondary watch folder could be designated as the "watch by episode title" folder instead of season/episode. If not functioning that way, a check box to enable/disable the capability would let Emby organize based on episode title if present. If filename does not have title present, then season/episode # information will be the fall back for organization.-

Hi, one of the features that I found useful in Plex was that it populated the art work atuomatically when you included home videos. I don't seem to have worked out whether Emby can do th esame. Is it the case? Cheers Antonio

Hi, I mostly stream from a server (internet) to my desktop computer only using the webinterface. When I go to the remote I only see one device "My device". When I open the remote on my mobile I also see only one device "My device" which refers to my mobile(?). How cool would it be if Emby adds all the browser-sessions to the device list and we can use our mobiles to control them (skip, pause, etc)? Or am I missing something and this is already possible? I'm new to Emby. With kind regards phooka IGNORE! I had a problem with the websocket connections.

Version 3.0.5768.1 Just noticed today that after adding several movies, the images were not being downloaded. The backdrop was, but nothing else was, and these were all movies with plenty of images to choose from for every category. I was able to manually pick all of the images, they were just not automatically downloaded like usual. server-63580679438.txt

Auto-Organize by show air date(Daily Show, Colbert Report)
woznicbh posted a topic in General/Windows
Is there any way to have the auto organize feature in the case that there is no Season number and episode number use the aired date to bring back the metadata and rename it with the proper season/episode and move it correctly? I record NBC Nightly News, The Daily Show, and The Colbert Report. I am able to copy them to their respective Show folders and view them from the client but I have no metadata or information with any of them when viewed in the clients. IIn the name of the file there is just the air date and in the case of Colbert and Daily show who the guest was. Examples: NBC Nightly News-2014-05-25.mp4 The Colbert Report-2014-05-01 Saul Williams.mp4 The Daily Show-2014-05-01 David Spade.mp4 Thanks,- 5 replies

Hi there, Here are the current specs of my server and desktop PCs: Server * NSK2480 Case * 2 x 4GB RAM (4GB being used as RAMDisk) * 60GB Sandisk Ultra SSD * MSI H61MA-E35 Mobo * i3-2105 * 2 x 2TB Samsung Spinpoint F4 * Antec 400w High Current Gamer PSU * 2 x TV Tuners - HVR-2200 and NOVA-HD-S2 Destkop * Xigmatek Midgard Tower * 2 x 4GB RAM and 2 x 2GB RAM * 60GB Crucial M4 SSD * Asus M4A785TD-M EVO * AMD Athlon IIx2 240e * 2 x 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 * Antec 380w Earthwatts PSU (taken from the NSK2480 above) Over the weekend my desktop PC died - the motherboard seems to have had it and I am going to chuck it and the CPU away. My dilemma is whether to buy a new motherboard and CPU for the desktop or whether to put the Server motherboard/CPU/RAM in the desktop tower and buy a replacement motherboard/CPU for the Server. What would you guys do? My instinct is to build a new server as: 1. 12GB of RAM would be better utilised in my server 2. Perhaps there are more efficient CPUs that are better suited to a server Any tips would be much appreciated.

Is it me or did I miss something. With the newest stable release version 3.0.5781.0 I don't have a security tab anymore. Is this correct?
