I am running my MB server on a used PC. It's an AMD apu. I use an external Seagate hdd, Emby is on 1 ssd with paths to cache, metadata and transcoding on another. I mostly use a Roku premiere, Nvidia shield and my main PC as clients. As the title suggests my problem is with very long load times for channel changing, specifically with the Shield and Roku, the PC is fine. The Shield is the worst with load times easily between 10-15 seconds and sometimes reaching 17-20 seconds and bringing up a prompt asking about playback error. I choose Emby because live Tv seemed to actually work, as opposed to Plex which didn't. That leads me to believe it might be my set up. Is it my drives? My cpu? (AMD A10 7850k) My internet is fiber 500mbs download, 100 up. I've attached what I believe is a pertinent log. Thanks.

When installing the Roku Thumbnails plugin it says that you should exclude libraries if you do not want or need thumbnails for them in order to save time and space. However I can find no way to do that. It seems that all my video libraries will, eventually, get thumbnails generated. While I have plenty of space and I can wait the days it will take to get all my libraries done there are several that I would like to exclude if it is possible. For me I only want thumbnails for movies. My large TV show library does not need them and my library of very short home videos has no need either. If I could exclude those it would help tremendously in both time and space as those libraries represent almost 20 of my 30 tb library so I could save a lot if I could exclude some libraries but I cannot find a way to exclude libraries or folders. Any help is much appreciated.

Just me with some more (dumb) ?s I've been moving more and more to using Emby for recording my TV. in the past there was the option to convert to MKV ... That was removed, but the ability to convert the recordings to a MP4 was added. I just discovered this a couple days ago (and can't for the life of me find LUKEs post (post? blog? wiki?) on it. In any event I have some questions ... I am currently converting 49 recordings. When I go to server dashboard ... downloads & Sync and click on the 'recordings' item .. this is where I get confused. Scrolling down I see the 49 items. These items can have the following status: Queued, Converting, Downloaded, and I think one like "ready for transfer". Each item has a grey or green line under it. What is the significance of this? Converting it makes sense as the bar goes across while it's converting. but I also have Queued Grey line, Queued Green line, Downloaded Grey line, and Downloaded Green line. Finally what does the circled minus do? Thanks in advance

Noticed something as of late, when trying to play videos through Roku they will 'cycle' through as though they're going to play then it will immediately crash the Emby app and then go right back to the Roku homescreen. It's random, because sometimes it will play the movie that I was just watching and other times it will do this. Roku software version is 9.0.0 build 4084-24, and Emby has been uninstalled and reinstalled. Sometimes restarting of the Roku fixes the issue. Anyone else experience this? I can do a debug log and send it if need be just need to enable Emby debug on the Roku and pull from there.

My setup: Windows 10 pro Optiplex 990-mt with a i7-2600 3.4ghz processor and 8mb ram Bitdefender total security 2019 (if it matters) Hauppauge wintv-quad model 1609 WinTv 8.5 Roku streaming stick model 3800rw Installed WinTv as per forums (as admin... etc) and have zero problems running that program in windows. Installed the tuner in Emby and it located the tuners and installed with no problem. Generally in the web browser all channels play well. Installed the current Emby app (3.0128) in Roku. The app will only play a channel 1 to 3 times before I get a playback error. After that it will not play until I restart the server. Installed the Roku beta app & blue neon app and they do the same as above. I am to the point where I have a fresh install of Emby with original setting, no plugins and just the quad tuner installed in livetv. When I had a m3u tuner installed it had no problems and ran well. I have noticed in the dashboard when connected to the Roku that it will show the channel and info when playing and when I click the back button on the remote it will show "seen 1 minute ago" and it will play another channel. But... sometimes when I hit the back button on the remote it still shows the channel playing on the dashboard. When I go to another channel I get the error and the dashboard shows direct playing, but it does not show on the TV. I have tried changing the video quality (from auto) in the Roku app to various settings but didn't help. I have been struggling for a while to get this to work so any help would greatly be appreciated. Attached are the logs, plus I sent logs in roku app @ 3:16 user: Randy Thanks in advance

Seems the Roku thumbnails plugin always tries to create thumbnails for trailers during a scheduled task. Except it has nowhere to save these so simply discards them, wasting a bunch of time, and trailers are so short they shouldn't need thumbnails anyways.

I am Trying to play a 4k HDR sample at 60fps. emby keeps trying to transcode and it either fails to play or plays but not in HDR . when I look at the transcode log it shows reason for transcode is framerate? but it also shows max frame rate is 61 so I don't know why its transcoding. I have tried this with other resolutions in HDR at 60fps with the same result. what is causing this. doesn't matter if its emby or blue neon app with force direct play same result Russman log attached TV model: LC-65Q7370U Log.txt

I couldn't find anything in the forums on this topic, so hopefully this isn't covered somewhere that I missed. I'm currently running Emby beta for Roku, 3.0.131. I only have movies on my server. No music. Some of these are in collections. When I put a movie into a playlist that is also in a collection, the ENTIRE collection appears on the playlist. If I look at the playlist on the web version of Emby, only the movies I selected show up in the playlist; no collections. So it seems to work in the web version, but not in Roku. Is there a setting I'm missing or is this something that may get fixed in the future?

@speechless Since Roku supports mpeg2 decodings, I having playback issue with 1080i content at high bitrate (>17mbps). The playback breaks up, pixalized, etc. forcing the server to transcode it to h264 solves this issue. i know that it's not an emby issue, since I have the exact same behavior when trying it with the orange brand competitor (On the preview channel, they now support direct play on mpeg2 content). I'm just wondering if you can pass this issue along to Roku? In Canada, the broadcasters don't have any sub channel, only the primary channel and they use all the ATSC 1.0 bandwith available in a 6 MHz width channel. So all my local ota channels are between 18 and 19 mbps. All those channels have the playback issue. I also received the major USA broadcasts from Vermont. The biterate of those broadcasts are lower. For example, CBS is around 13mbps. I don't have issue with CBS and the other USA channels. Thank you

I've been having a problem lately with emby crashing on a Raspberry Pi on DietPi. It ran almost without fault for the last year or so. After an upgrade from 3.3x to 3.5.2, it began crashing within minutes of starting it. So, I wiped the system and started over completely with a new install of DietPi and Emby as well. I'm not totally sure what's causing it, but I've been trying to run the Roku "create thumbnails" scheduled task, and it invariably crashes, even if I don't access the system in any other way. I've attached a copy of the log file, and the linux error status is also posted below. I recently installed the Emby server on my Windows 7 PC and have set up a Music library under which I have placed my audio book folders (all MP3 Audio files within their own folders). I use a Roku 2 to access Emby via the app from the Roku store. I can access and play the audio via the Roku, but when I do press play the background flickers between black, a rainbow color, and transitions between some combination of the two. All media on the screen appears and disappears, including but not limited to: buttons for Play and Stop, all images, and the entire Now Playing section at the bottom. When I back out of the Music library the images at my Home Screen continue to appear and disappear, and the background continues its psychedelic dance. My Windows 7 doesn't have this problem. Is this a known bug or did I set up my audio books incorrectly?

Sorry if this is already asked/answered, but my search didn't find it... In both Emby and Emby beta apps for the TCL Roku TV, I don't have a way of turning captions off and on at the movie or show play screen. Before I went to my profile settings and turned them off entirely, they would default to being turned ON, and I couldn't do anything about it. This isn't true of any other version of Emby I've tried (Chrome, Android). Thanks, Jim

Hi, considering Emby over Plex (long time subscriber) mainly because of the Plex UI changes. I will start a subscription shortly, but am using the free version right now. I have the Roku thumbnails generating right now which was question #1 My other major question: ---DVR functionality on Roku, can I set recordings from the Roku, and is it done from a grid type guide or something else? I've been looking for screenshots, can't find any. If anyone has any links to videos/screenshots, etc of the DVR functionality running and being setup on a Roku, it is much appreciated. Thanks.

I recently downloaded Emby (love the software) and its great. Works just like I expected to stream mkv anime files. Everything worked perfectly for about a week and then not so much. All of my media players, Roku, Opera (on computer), Firefox (on computer), Chrome (on computer), and my DLNA Smart Tv does not work. Specifically whenever I try to play a file on the Roku (the roku 3) it tries to transcode then just hangs (the green bar loading bar disappears). I cannot access the DLNA via my Smart Tv. Whenver I try to play via any of my browsers I get the "no compatible streams" message for every one (pictures attached). The only device I own that seems to work is my Galaxy Note 5 through the Emby app. It works perfectly through there. As I test I converted an anime file (one specifically is 10bit down to 8bit) and that works no problem. But it still makes no sense because the other files worked just fine when I first installed Emby. Basically, I need to figure out if I need to convert all my files or if there is another issue on the server I am not aware of. Not sure if I gave enough information but I also attached the logs for server and transcode. Hopefully this helps. I'm probably just missing something obvious here, but is there a way to change the channel on live TV while watching live TV? Right now, if I want to watch a different channel, I have to go back to the Emby for Roku app and sort through the channel list to find what I'm looking for. Is there a way to just "surf" through the channels without tuning out and tuning back in?

Navigation: Roku App > Music > <pick an album> I noticed this a bit back (e.g. on the previous release app), and hadn't dug deeper until recently because I thought it may have been something odd in my tags. But, I finally looked and I'm not certain what's going on. The track order of tracks on an album in the Roku app (both release and beta) is out of order. I have validated the following: My MP3s are in the folder structure and named <Artist>/<Album>/<track#> - track title.mp3 My MP3s have tags for track, among the other metadata Emby Web produces the track listing in the correct order If I take a random album (Newsies), Roku is displaying the tracks in this order: 7, 13, 14, 8, 5, 10, 15 <etc>. Another random album (Clay Walker / Rumor Has It), Roku is displaying tracks in this order: 6, 2, 8, 5, 1, 3, 10, 7, 4, 9. It IS enumerating the tracks in the Roku display (just not correct track number next to the title). The sort order in Roku doesn't appear to be track order (with or without leading 0s), title, length, or any other metadata available that I can ascertain. Hello, looking to get my home network figured out and then have it reachable externally. I thought I hit all the points - guess not. My setup: My install of Linux Mint. My fstab has been modified to mount at boot another drive so Emby sees it at startup and that part works. Going to http://localhost:8096/web/index.html#!/home.htmlshows the Emby homepage with my media. Problem is I cannot access outside of the box. I have samba installed too for file sharing and here is the section relating to the shared files [Movies] comment = Emby Movies path = /home/toast/Videos/Movies browsable = yes guest ok = yes I have also setup port forwarding as well. Emby TCP 8096 8096 192.168.0.13 N/A Edit x However as http://www.canyouseeme.org/ states my port is not open and cannot see me. The devices I am sharing to are a Roku 3 and my phone, neither of which are making connections when on my home network.

Hello, I'm having difficulty authenticating via LDAP through the Roku client. I am able to authenticate through the web browser, and I am 100% sure that I am entering the correct password. Attached is my embyserver.txt. I noticed that when attempting to authenticate through the Roku a post request to https://connect.emby.media/service/user/authenticate is logged. Emby Version 3.5.3.0 Roku Version 3.0.111 Roku Express+ Both Emby + OpenLDAP are running inside of docker containers. Please help me debug this! Not sure how long my parents will go without entertainment! Thanks embyserver.txt

Bug: Movies temporarily vanish if playback starts from chapters
SmplyUnprdctble posted a topic in Roku
I found a weird (very minor) bug in the Roku app. Currently using 3.0.111 (which appears to be the same as the beta -- was happening in the previous live app as well). Using it on a TCL Roku TV and a Roku Streaming Stick. If I perform the following: Movies >> All Movies >> (any movie) Scroll down to chapters and start playing at any chapter After playback starts, hit back to go back to the movie summary screen Hit back again to the All Movies list, and the movie you were just in is gone from the list. Backing out to the Movies screen and back in to All Movies restores it, so I'd call this a mild cosmetic bug. And, the best I can tell, you have to start at a specific chapter for it to vanish. I've started from the beginning and chosen a resume and no vanishing. So, this probably only affects weird people like me who want to open movies at certain spots (what can I say? I've learned where my favorite songs are in musicals) I can also cause multiple movies to vanish from the list by repeating it with multiple titles. And, if you scroll enough titles to pull another 150 chunk from the server, oddities happen in the area where the overlap should have happened. I think these are just side effects of the root bug. I didn't try this with TV shows. Mostly because they're a couple levels deeper in navigation. I'd call it semi-cosmetic and very low priority (because you have to perform weird steps), but wanted to bring it to your attention in the unlikely event it could cause something else to not be happy. -
Great application and work, having an issue on my newest Roku Streaming Stick Details: Emby Server - On Linux (ubuntu) version : 3.5.2.0 Emby Roku App - version 3.0 build 91 Roku Device: 3800x version: 8.1.0 build 4145-55 On loading Emby the screen flashes white on and off repeatedly. I have created a gif of what this looks like.

I was watching a show on Emby and 2 episodes in a row the episodes stopped with about a minute and a half left and I got a box that said "Video Error" and underneath that it only says "ignored" and then under that it just has the "ok" button for me to press. I tested the same episodes in the emby browser on my computer and they worked just fine, it appears to just be the Roku app. I'm not sure what the issue is and have never had it happen until today. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nick

What information is Apple TV and Roku collecting when using Emby app?
schnappi posted a topic in Non-Emby General Discussion
Is anyone familiar with exactly what information AppleTV and Roku are collecting while using the Emby apps? Are they collecting information about watched media or more broadly just that the app is being used? Maybe somewhere in between (Bitrates, ect.)? Actually more concerned about Roku and than Apple. The Roku general privacy policy (read both of them) is extremely broad while Apple actually is more specific about what is collected and what is done with collected information. The issue is that nothing in either policy refers or references information collected from the usage of individual apps on each platform. -
I added about 3000 music files to Emby recently. I previously only used Emby for videos. I have gone through some of my songs and indicated some were favorites. I did this from my computer. However, when I go on the Roku app, I can't get to my favorites to play them. When I first open my music library, I see "Favorites" as a header, but it quickly disappears and I can't see how to get it back. Also, is there no way to shuffle or mix my entire library? From what I can tell, I can shuffle play within an artist or album, but not using the whole library. Maybe I'm missing something. I'm using the latest beta version of the app. Thanks.

Is there a limit to the number of items that will appear/play in a Playlist? On four different devices and in both the stable and beta Emby apps, my playlists appear to be limited to 20 items.
