LIVE TV RECORDINGS DO NOT COMPLETE

Hello, I am not usually one to ask questions however; I seem to be having an issue here that I can't wrap my head around. For the live recordings/DVR, they never seem to complete. After the recording, anything from say 2 minutes up to 15 or 20 is usually saved, rarely the whole entire recording that I schedule. Funny thing is I have sat here and looked at the dashboard and watched where it showed when they stopped, but it also showed that some complete as well but yet when I go to play them back, they are only 2 minutes to 15 or 20 in length and part is missing. What am I missing here? I have the recordings scheduled to start 1 min before and 1 min after, pretty cut and dry with that. Is there maybe some kind of conversion setting that I have turned on or something that needs to get turned off?
  2. I have been using the Emby DVR for a few months and have been pretty happy with the results recording and watching general TV programs. Recently the Rugby World Cup started showing on TV here in New Zealand and these recordings are significantly longer than the usual programs I had been recording. Watching the first game for NZ in the competition (on my Android Smart TV client) it played fine until about 40 minutes into the game (about 1:40 into the recording) when it started pixelating and glitching for 5-10 seconds. It then came right for a few minutes and then glitched again and repeated randomly throughout the rest of the game. I wasn't sure whether the glitching was in the play-back or the recording so, the following day, I opened the recorded file in VLC and tried playing it. It glitched again in the same places suggesting to me that the issue seemed to be in the recording. I had previously been using Mediaportal for recording TV and, as I had two HD Homeruns, I had allocated one to Mediaportal and one to Emby while I was testing Emby out. For the second game a week later, I recorded the game on both Emby and Mediaportal. Again, part way through the recording the Emby recording started glitching. I swapped over to Mediaportal and it had recorded the game absolutely fine, from the same signal source. Again, I subsequently checked and the issue was in the recording, not just the playback. For a recent game, I swapped the HD Homeruns over between Emby and Mediaportal to see if the problem followed the HD Homerun or the server. Again, Emby glitched and Mediaportal played/recorded it fine, suggesting that the issue was on the Emby side rather than the signal side. My Emby server is a 12 month old Core i5 with 8GB RAM and two SSDs, one for the OS and one for Recording, running Windows 10 Home. It is connected to a Gigabit LAN, along with the HD Homeruns (and the lower spec'ed Mediaportal server). It is running Emby version 4.2.1.0 with no other 'server' processes running on it. I have attached logs for the most recent recording which are rather large but the instructions for posting did say not to strip them out so.... :-) The program being recorded started at 7:00pm on Sat 26th Oct 2019 with a 3 minute pre-buffer so 6:57pm approx start time. I started watching around 8:40pm and fast forwarded through bits of the pre-game show until I got close to kick-off when I started getting pixelation again. Just before 9:00pm (kick-off) I stopped watching on Emby and swapped across to Mediaportal and watched the game there with no issues. I have also included 2 screenshots taken off the Emby recording a few minutes apart showing the sort of pixelation I am talking about. They are being played in Emby Theatre in a different PC a few days later and show the timestamp in the recording where some of the issues occur. VLC also glitches in the same places. I have recently noticed some pixelation on other longer shows (over 1 hour) but not as badly. Shorter shows seem to be OK??? I have really been enjoying my Emby experience and being able to watch all our media from the Smart TV with the one remote has been a big plus on the WAF side so it would be great if someone could help me sort out this last little glitch! :-) Many thanks in advance. PS. NZ Free to Air TV is H.264 encoded. The HD Homeruns are 'HDHomerun Dual's Model : HDHR3-DT. embyserver-63707731197.txt ffmpeg-remux-6d613bba-6221-493a-ab71-8894d0aafacf_1.txt ffmpeg-remux-1793ff98-0ed1-44d7-baf8-965328f3b33a_1.txt
  3. They are set to record at least a couple hours. Before you say bad stream (hdhomerun), note that the ones that cut off early always cut off at 47 minutes! So far, about 7 of them. This is very disappointing as I can't watch them anywhere else I can find. It's the main reason I use emby, for dvr. Attached is the log file, look around 5am, canada vs australia. why!?? One pattern I see is all the bad ones (47 mins) start at 5am, so, around 5:48am something happens. Does hdhomerun do something at 5:48am cst perhaps? embyserver-63826418098.txt
  4. When attempting to modify a series recording, the loading circle is there indefinitely and "Channels", "Air days", and typically "Air time" never populate with the current values.
  5. I'm sure there are scripts or maybe an add-on someone can point me to in the meantime? Has it ever been considered to put in a feature to transcode recordings as they are recording? For example if I record a 1HR HD program, recordings can get upwards of 6GB. If I could set a bitrate to have my server transcode the recording on the fly to say 1080p 5mbps? To keep file sizes down and reduce time spent cleaning up libraries

    Question About Recording Shows

I Think I've discovered an 3 issue in regards to TV shows, and I'd like some input on how to resolve. (This happens on both Emby and PLEX). I can't record half hour long shows, they cut off after 5-10 minutes of recording. I can only program recording if show is an hour or longer. Is there a work-around? Shows do not record with Season and Episode number. Is there a work-around? Commercials are not automatically taken out. Is there another plugin I can use?

    Series Recording Problem

Why do I get this? Search a show and set it to only record new episodes and it finds none, then later I will discover there is a new airing on which shows it’s not going to record, but the green icon stating new is showing? I get this with many series recordings. I also get silly things such as these too.

Emby post-processing dvr script for linux

I thought I'd post my emby post-processing dvr script. Tested and working on Debian Linux 8.9 Files processed end up being named *originalvideoname*.ts.mkv so i can search by that and make sure recordings have no issues. After I look at them, I manually rename to just .mkv. I do not have automatically convert recordings checked or the two preserve boxes checked under live tv --> settings. Script flow: see if lockfile exists. if so wait 60 sec create lockfile commerical scan and commerical cutting ccextractor to pull out closed captions and convert to srt file Encode to h264 using ffmpeg and combine in srt file from previous step Trim off first 60 sec from recording (due to iptv delay you get a minute from previous show. I have recordings set to last 1 min longer in emby record. The shows using my OTA tuners start early by 1 min to compensate) Remove srt/extra files Overwrite original ts recording delete lockfile Depends on: comskip, comcut (comchap optional), ccextractor, ffmpeg I eventually want to fool around with a nvidia gtx 1050 and see how nevnc with hevc/h265 works on the ffmpeg encoding line. Software h265 encoding on very fast saves an additional 30-40% space on same setting as h264 on medium but my encoding framerate goes from 420fps (14x) to 69fps (2.3x) on dual Xeon e5-2670s. The picture looks pretty much identical when i look at them side by side post.sh emby script #!/bin/csh set path = ($path /usr/local/bin) set lockFile = '/tmp/dvrProcessing.lock' set origFile = "$1" set tmpFile = "$1.tmp" set tmpEncode = "$1.mkv" set tmpEncode2 = "$1.2.mkv" set tmpSrt = "$1.srt" set dvrPostLog = '/path/to/embydvr/dvrProcessing.log' set dvrLockLog = '/path/to/embydvr/dvrLock.log' #Wait if post processing is already running while ( -f $lockFile ) echo "'$lockFile' exists, sleeping processing of '$origFile'" | tee $dvrLockLog sleep 60 end #Create lock file to prevent other post-processing from running simultaneously echo "Creating lock file for processing '$origFile'" | tee -a $dvrPostLog touch $lockFile #Mark and cut commercials echo "cut from '$origFile'" | tee -a $dvrPostLog /path/to/embydvr/comchap/comcut --lockfile=/tmp/comchap.lock --comskip-ini=/path/to/embydvr/comskip.ini "$origFile" #Pull CC from file to SRT file echo "Pulling Closed captions from '$origFile' to SRT file" | tee -a $dvrPostLog ccextractor "$origFile" -o "$tmpSrt" #Encode file to H.264 with mkv container using ffmpeg and mux in CC srt echo "Re-encoding '$origFile' to MKV file while adding cc data" | tee -a $dvrPostLog /usr/bin/ffmpeg -i "$origFile" -i "$tmpSrt" -map 0 -map 1 -acodec copy -scodec copy -c:v libx264 -preset medium -crf 23 -profile:v high -level 4.1 -deinterlace "$tmpEncode" #Trim off first minute echo "Remove first 60 sec of file" | tee -a $dvrPostLog /usr/bin/ffmpeg -ss 00:01:00 -i "$tmpEncode" -vcodec copy -acodec copy -scodec copy "$tmpEncode2" #Remove SRT file echo "Remove SRT file" | tee -a $dvrPostLog rm -f "$tmpSrt" #Remove tmpEncode file echo "Remove tmpEncode file" | tee -a $dvrPostLog rm -f "$tmpEncode" #Rename transcoded file to temp file in case no subtitles echo "Rename 2nd transcoded file to tmp file" | tee -a $dvrPostLog mv -f "$tmpEncode2" "$tmpFile" #Overwrite original ts file with the transcoded file echo "Removing '$origFile'" | tee -a $dvrPostLog mv -f "$tmpFile" "$origFile" #Rename .ts file to .ts.mkv echo "Renaming '$origFile' to .mkv" | tee -a $dvrPostLog mv -f "$origFile" "$1.mkv" #Remove lock file echo "Done processing '$origFile' removing lock" | tee -a $dvrPostLog rm $lockFile exit 0
  9. I am also having this exact issue and this is extremely frustrating. The stream will hang randomly (it could be 5, 15 or 30 mins) but if it doesn't, it will ultimately crash at around 4 hours of continuous playing. The transcoding log gives zero information as it only hangs there until I quit the frozen stream and then it logs "user quit"... The emby server log has the errors as mentionned by the first posts in this thread. In exemple : 2022-07-31 09:47:41.193 Info HttpClient: Http response 404 from http://host6/x_path4_x/x_path21_x after 175ms. HeadersServer=nginx, Date=Sun, 31 Jul 2022 13:47:41 GMT, Connection=close, Access-Control-Allow-Origin=* The most frustrating part is if and when I use VLC to watch/decode the M3U link, the stream works flawlessly and will keep going for days. There must be something you guys can do about it..?

    Separate user recodrings

How do I make it so that each user has their own DVR TV Recordings folder/library. I have a separate user setup for my mother to use via Roku in tv in living room, want to give her ability to record shows...however, in my testing, it appears that their is only one global Recording path/folder. So any thing ever user set to record, shows up in that single folder/library, for all to see. I need to have her recordings separate from my own....I don't to see all her soaps...nor do I want her(or any other user) to see my recordings.

    DVR Recordings Truncated

I am having the exact same issue. All the supposedly one-hour shows are being recorded for only 1-3 minutes. Yikes, is there a setting I'm missing. (That batch of 12 screenshots is exactly what I am experiencing!)

    DVR Recordings Truncated

Hi, I'm new to Emby and recently purchased a lifetime Emby Premiere subscription. I could use some help with a DVR problem I'm experiencing. Emby DVR recordings of 60 minute programs are being stopped/terminated/interrupted after about one minute of recording. The recorded files are viewable with no problem. This is happening with all recordings on any channel, whether recordings are scheduled or started mid-program. I'm using an HD Home Run Extend as the source tuner and Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 for the server. Default recording path is on an external 14TB drive attached directly to the shield. I do have other Tv Show libraries on that drive that Emby accesses without a problem. I also have a different media server on my mac that records fine to a drive attached to that mac using the same two channel tuner. I thought maybe both servers were trying to access the tuner at the same time but that isn't happening. Thoughts? Thank you in advance, for any aid is appreciated.

    DVR Recordings Truncated

Experiencing the same problem. Scheduled recordings stopping after 2, 6, 16, 45 minutes. Some cases, like BBC news, which is set to record all episodes including repeats, show up in the schedule, but doesn't record all episodes.

    Multi-User DVR...

So, I know Emby already has some multi-user settings and such, but one that would be useful to me is in the arena of recordings. I have multiple people who record shows in the house and for the most part, I don't care to see their recordings and they don't care to see mine. I would like to see an option to have recordings be user aware. For example... User one records "The Big Bang Theory" User two records "The Cool Kids" Users one and two both record "New Amsterdam" User One would see "The Big Bang Theory" and "New Amsterdam", but not "The Cool Kids". User Two would see "The Cool Kids" and "New Amsterdam", but not "The Big Bang Theory". "New Amsterdam" would only be recorded once using one tuner as the system would recognize them as the same. Now, User One watches "New Amsterdam" and then deletes it. They would no longer see it, but the file would remain on disk and would remain in User Two's list of recorded shows. User Two watches it, then deletes it. Now it is gone from both users recorded show lists, and because there are no references to the file on disk, it is now deleted as well. I'm sure this adds complexity to managing recordings and conflicts, but I think it would be useful.
  15. My guide is almost empty. I'm posting a different question about that. I'm watching the show live but I can't figure out how to start recording. Also, in general how do i do a manual recording? Edit: Oops wrong forum, should I re-post this somewhere else?
  16. I have few questions about running emby server on android tv. 1. Does the DVR feature available? 2. I see that emby server has a smb client integrated. If the DVR feature is available, can you record to a network drive like plex on the nvidia shield does? 3. Channel Master just released a new Android TV certified box (Stream+) that has 2 internal ATSC 1.0 tuners. From my understanding, the system sees those tuners as USB tuners. Does emby server supports USB tuner and if so, could it use those internal tuners on this specific box? 4. I know that hardware acceleration transcoding is not yet available. Is there any other limitation? Thank you.
  17. Hello, Whenever I try to use Auto-organize to organize recorded TV episodes, Auto-organize fails to move the episodes and the log file shows a message that the episode cannot be sorted because it is already part of an Emby library. This is true, but it is because Emby automatically adds the Recorded TV folder as an Emby library. Hence, I have to remove the Recorded TV folder from my libraries, and then Auto-organize will sort and move the recorded episodes as expected. But then Emby adds the Recorded TV folder back as a library item and Auto-organize fails again. This has been an issue for me for quite some time, but I finally decided to ask about it. I feel like I must be missing something. Have I missed an option to avoid adding the Recorded TV folder as a library? Have I missed some other setting that fixes this issue? Are other users having this same issue? If so, how do you avoid this issue as it makes Auto-organize much less useful? I can see the benefits of having the Recorded TV folder as a library, but then it seems like Auto-organize should ignore that folder when looking through the libraries for a match for the TV show.

    DVR/Live TV Subtitles?

Got my Emby server connected to a HDHomeRun Connect Duo and it's happily recording all the things. However, subtitles are not available when playing back my DVR recordings. If I play the .ts files in VLC, it will detect and show the embedded subtitles. VLC actually picks up 4 different sets of subtitles, but only the first one does anything. I know I can configure OpenSubtitles and have it download the subtitles. Or, I could set MCEBuddy to extract them to a .srt file. Though both of these options seem unnecessary since the subtitles are embedded in the .ts files. Am I doing something wrong here, or has this functionality not been added yet? I found some previous posts asking about Live TV subtitles as well. Is there any status update on that? That's a feature I would really love to see. Thanks for the support and this great software.

    Play to End of File

An option to label a library so that files in that library are played to end-of-file rather than up to the time-code captured in the most recent library scan would make the Live TV & DVR capability far more useful.
  20. Tablo would be a great Plugin for Emby. Tablo capabilities (I'm no shill) Tablo is a whole home quad station tuner DVR for cord cutters. It has (in Beta) the ability to remove advertisements from "recorded" content. It allows you to watch and record up to 4 HD channels at the same time. Tablo is a network-connected DVR that streams live and recorded content over the air HD TV from your antenna through the Tablo to Roku, Android, IOS, Amazon, Microsoft & Web Browsers... High-definition transcoding provides the best picture quality while optimizing storage and Wi-Fi bandwidth usage. Connect up to 8 TB that can be added externally through USB ports and\or Internal Sata interface for SSD. RJ45 10/100/1000, wireless 2.4 & 5 -Ghz. The wireless feature allowed me to put the antenna in the attic, it detected almost 80 Channels with a $20 antenna! I would be grateful if a plugin for this was coded.

    DVR - Recordings Folder Issue

Greetings. Recently noticed that recording Live TV was no longer functioning. I changed the file path from a network name to a mapped drive name, and it started working again, same folder as before just different path. However. Now I have 2 recording folders on the home screen. One has a random file in it that cannot be deleted, and the other contains all the new recordings. As the admin, I am the only account who can see both folders. All users who have access to this feature can only see the now useless original folder. I have reset the DVR path to blank and saved, manually deleted all folders, rebooted server. This results in the loss of the functioning folder, but the now useless original folder remains and can't be removed. Thoughts?

Record failing at random times/closed connection

I have having recording failures. Sometimes its 40 min, sometimes 15min. The server reports stream server closed connection. and it retries, but gets 403 error. and quits after 435ms. 23. Does anyone know the cause or a fix for this ugly line on the left side of the screen that i always have with my Emby IPTV? The line is only there when using IPTV and is not present when using just OTA channels. Also line is present when IPTV is recorded too. Ive had the line for like a year, all the time, never goes away, im learning to simply ignore it but i want to fix this now. But this ugly Line is baked right in. So line is visible even when opening the .ts files that Emby's DVR record in VLC player or any other. How do i get rid of this line? Emby is served from windows 10, latest emby build.

    Recording of IPTV VOD

I am a complete newbie at this so I would very much appreciate some guidance. I have an interest in recording IPTV, specifically their VOD channels. My reasoning behind this is that I live in South Africa and my international internet connection speed is limited during peak viewing times, hence the desire to record during the off-peak period so I can watch in the evenings. I have installed the Emby server and client and have a suitable M3U file list and have configured LiveTV. The problem I am having is how do I record as I don’t have any EPG. Are I correct in assuming that I must have an EPG to record? If so, is it sensible to take the M3U file list and create an artificial XMLTV file and effectively fake an EPG? I am not averse to writing some code to parse the M3U. Just trying to understand what is the best approach, and whether there are any 3rd party tools to assist. Guidance would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
  25. Hello, I have been using Emby for several years and absolutely love the platform. One thing that I believe would be a nice feature would be to allow users to record to different library's. Thanks for your attention, John
