  1. I have my media library on my desktop and on a Debian Linux server it is currently around 16.7 TB I periodically sync from the desktop to the server with rsync -avut -o -g --chown emby:emby --no-perms --progress --no-compress -e "SSH STUFF & FILE PATHS & OTHER OPTIONS". I have been doing this for years as a backup solution i.e if one fails the other is still there and knock on wood, haven't lost anything YET. I recently installed Emby on said server few weeks ago and today went to sync my media files ,I am NOW in the middle of a 14TB restore to the server . It is partially/mostly my fault because I have --delete-before as part of my rsync options ( I think that is what happened to so much of the data , massive delete from rsync ) My question: I notice Emby does a lot of ffmpeg and ffprobe stuff when the media library changes , is all that stuff Emby is doing passive reads or are the files physically being written to in some manner i.e writing metadata or moving atoms etc. that would trigger an update from rsync ? Changing the access/creation time or file size would do it no matter how little it actually changes . Music for sure was totally wiped out and most of the video library as well . There is nothing else on the server that would touch those files. Probably needless to say I changed the delete before option in rsync so I do not get a repeat (had it in there because disk space was low) but I do need to know if Emby is physically writing to my files instead of just passively reading them for the library updates/scans. If it matter all files are music.mp3 and video.mp4 One other reason I ask is MS media center/player did that, it would basically scan your system and re-write everything with the meta data it wanted right or wrong .mp3 was the worst . I hate to look back and remember how many times I had to redo my music collection until I figured that out. There are other media apps out there that do the same thing and usually without telling you they are messing with your files . Hopefully Emby is not one of them !

    Music and ID3 Tags

Hello and thank you to all the developers and contributors in this community. Can anyone explain to me what exactly is read from MP3 ID3 tags and when? It seems that neither the artist nor album nor song information is taken from the actual MP3 file, but the folder structure only. This can be problematic if you have any kind of slight variation in folder structure as I do. It seems that Emby is also not pulling the .jpg artwork that is embedded in the file either. This is leaving me with all kinds of "albums" that are empty, have no artist, and no artwork even though files are all tagged appropriately including Album Artists. I do not want to rearrange my folders because that would mess up any other applications/libraries that are referencing those files (such as iTunes). So why aren't ALL metadata values read from ID3 tags FIRST and then use folder structure as a fallback, and then find missing metadata (artist image, bio, etc) from scrapers? Is there any plan to implement this in the near future? This has been an ongoing frustration of mine. Thanks in advance for your help.
  3. The attached image shows what happens when I try to play anything from my mp3 music library using Emby on my AppleTV. The files are being hosted from the Emby server on my iMac. I have tested this music library on my windows 10 machine, as well as on my iPad and my android phone; and that same library works fine on these.
  4. First, EMBY is the best Media Server ever, it's worth every cent I paid for the Premier license! I loved the introduction of the Composer tab for music media. I'm a classical music lover and I have more than 20,000 titles over more than 1,000 albums. Browsing through the composer tab for classical music is way more effective and direct than for album artists or artists as you may have literally thousands of these (they may include not only composers but also performers, orchetras, etc...) Unfortunately the browsing through Composers loses all its potential as in the Composer detail page you can see only the songs for that composer. They may be thousands (like for Beethoven) making the great idea of adding the Composer tab not that useful. Just adding the section "Albums" and "Appears on" like for the user journey with the "Artists" and "Album Artists", will empower the Composer tab. It will probably be not a big change and is a quick win. I hope you could add it in one of the future version. Thanks Gerry Artist Detail Page (with 'Albums' and 'Appears On') Composer Detail Page (without 'Albums' and 'Appears On')
  5. I've just re-organised my music library from this structure: -Music --%Artist% - Album name ------%discnumber%%tracknumber% - %atrist% - %title% ------%discnumber%%tracknumber% - %atrist% - %title% --%Artist% - Album name2 ------%discnumber%%tracknumber% - %atrist% - %title% ------%discnumber%%tracknumber% - %atrist% - %title% To this structure: Music --artist1 ----album1 ------%discnumber%%tracknumber% - %atrist% - %title% ------%discnumber%%tracknumber% - %atrist% - %title% ------%discnumber%%tracknumber% - %atrist% - %title% ----album2 ------%discnumber%%tracknumber% - %atrist% - %title% ------%discnumber%%tracknumber% - %atrist% - %title% ------%discnumber%%tracknumber% - %atrist% - %title% --artist2 ----album1 ------%discnumber%%tracknumber% - %atrist% - %title% ------%discnumber%%tracknumber% - %atrist% - %title% ------%discnumber%%tracknumber% - %atrist% - %title% --Various artists ----album ------%discnumber%%tracknumber% - %atrist% - %title% ------%discnumber%%tracknumber% - %atrist% - %title% ------%discnumber%%tracknumber% - %atrist% - %title% ----album2 ------%discnumber%%tracknumber% - %atrist% - %title% ------%discnumber%%tracknumber% - %atrist% - %title% ------%discnumber%%tracknumber% - %atrist% - %title% etc. in the process i've also renamed, and retagged the mp3's and made sure they are all consistent, however emby seems to be having an issue with some of the artists, lets start with various artists for example, I'f i remove the id3tag albumartist, then emby shows the album as being made by a random artist with a song on that album. If the album artist tag is set to "Various Artists" emby shows it as various, and i end up with two artists, "various", and "various artists" All id3tags are present and correct, with, as far as i can see, nothing giving this information. The artist "various" has been removed from the metadata folder, and all metadata is stored with the files. I've also cleaned the database using this guide. I've attached a few screenshots to try and explain the issue a little better.
  6. Emby is not properly reading all ARTIST tags for MP3 files. FLAC files are okay, seems to be only MP3 files. Not sure what causes this, but I tag MP3 and FLAC files the same in mp3tag and MusicBee, with an ARTIST tag for each artist on the track: Title: Believe ft. Big KRIT (DatPiff Exclusive) Album: Before The Box Album Artist: David Banner Artist: David Banner Artist: Big K.R.I.T. When FLAC files are tagged this way with multiple artists, the artist tag is treated as a list and all artist are recognized individually. However, it seems like Emby can only read the first ARTIST tag from MP3 files. This means that any featured artists do not get indexed, and any MP3s they are tagged on will NOT show up on under the "appears on" section for the artist page. Here are the tags viewed in Mp3tag:
  7. Hi, Quite new to Emby - and Loving it! One main issue I have - and this has been sort of touched on elsewhere in the forums. I have a large collection of MP3 files (94k) and I have painstakingly gone through each file and added the correct artwork/cover/label. I've added everything to Emby - took a couple of days but hardly surprising. Now, when I play these, either on my server pc or in Android app, I am noty seeing the correct cover art (in some cases it simply does not appear. It's important to note that my files are not stored in Album folders and therefore to not have a seperate Album Art picture in the folder. Each cover is embedded in the file using MP3 taggers and/or JRiver Media center. Most other players that I use do use the correct cover art. Is there anything I can do to either ensure the correct artwork is associated with the correct files or force Emby to look in the file for artwork? Yours in anticipation, Gary

    AudioBooks

It´would be cool if MediaBrowser (i don´t now it´s a Server side think or a Plug-In thing) could Play Audiobooks "seperatly" If i set a folder only for Audiobooks, i only can choise "music" as "Collection type"... but if i like to hear music. MediaBrowser use the Audibook files to play as "music" It´s not so funny if you hear David Guetta and the next "Song" is a Part of Dieter Nuhr Audiobook ;-) I hope anyone understand what i try to explain...
  10. When playing a multi-disc album and the 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) disc has a different image (in the file), the image of the first disc is still shown when playing. All files are tagged correctly and in the same folder so these show up as multidisc albums on the server. Can this be fixed, please?
  11. Коллеги, подскажите, можно ли проиграть потоковое mp3? Пробовал поток оформлять как *.strm но emby такие потоки не проигрывает. Я вижу только написать плюгин сторонник который будет проигрывать такие потоки или есть другие варианты?
  13. I have more than 2000 songs in mp3 and flac format and the emby apps I use (android for smartphone android TV and windows 10) doesn't show the albums, genres and tracks. is there something wrong with emby server? Is there any workaround for this issue? Has this issue been addressed by emby developers?

    Some mp3 files won't play

I just installed Emby server (Version 3.2.70.0) on my raspberry pi 3 (which run with Fedora 27), and Android client. Everything seems to work fine, but only some mp3 files don't play on Android's client although they work fine via the web app (I use Firefox 58 on my laptop and mobile to play music) When I am trying to open these files from Android client I got this message: Playback Error, no compatible streams are currently available... My Android Device is Samsung Galaxy S8 which run with Android 7. Audio Transcoding as MP3

This is more of a general question than an issue report Is there any specific factors/thresholds that would cause audio to transcode to mp3? Most of my media is direct mkv copies of physical discs with the original audio tracks in tact - The only changes i've made is setting the CRF factor of the x264 encoder to a lower value and setting de-interlacing to "bop & weave" , for testing Update - Added logs ffmpeg transcode - 10-13-2017 (1252pm).txt ffmpeg transcode - 10-13-2017 (1254pm).txt ffmpeg transcode - 10-13-2017 (1258pm).txt
  16. Hi, I'm trying to tidy up my audio files but I am having issues trying to understand how to clean things up. As an example, I had "ABBA" and "abba" as an artist showing up or "The Eagles" and "Eagles". So I used and id tag editor to change all mp3 artists to "ABBA" and "The Eagles". However, in the web app, I still see both artists appear when I sort by artist. When you go to the metadata editor, you only have "ABBA" and the "The Eagles". How do you clean things up and get Emby to show "ABBA" consistently? Thanks
  17. Hello! I wasn't sure where to put this topic, so I put it here in the general discussion (: I am not sure if this is a bug or perhaps a feature. My server version is Version 3.0.8500.0. In short, if a film, per se, has both an MP3 theme and an MP4 backdrop, the MP3 theme does not play when using a client which (perhaps?) doesn't support playing the backdrop when the film is selected. It seems that this is not the ideal behavior, because indeed if Android and web (for instance) don't do MP4 backdrops, they would at least play the MP3 theme if one exists. I haven't checked the server logs yet - they may or may not have any insight into this behavior. Any thoughts?
  18. My emby has stopped playing audio from movies that have a MP3 Codec. I am running the latest version of emby and trying to play it from the online web app. I have tried playing the file on a windows 10.1 Chrome browser and a macbook chrome browser. In both situations the audio didn't play but the video did.

  20. Hi, really happy with how the new Emby Theater worked flawlessly when I first installed it. It looks fantastic. I have a premium licence. Movies and all my music played fine, but yesterday I ran into problems playing my flac and mp3 files which are in separate folders. Just getting the spinning circle when I click on a song and nothing happens. I deleted my music library and re-installed it but its still not working. I've got Windows 7 64 bit. Do you have any idea why this might be? I've attached my emby theater log. theater-63591942346.txt

    Artist vs Album Artist

Is there a way to get the Android TV app to use the ARTIST tag for browsing instead of the ALBUM ARTIST tag? This is a feature that works remarkably well on the web app, and on the Android phone/tablet apps. For some reason however, I am not able to get the Android TV app to allow browsing by the artist tag. I understand that for many casual listeners out there this may seem like a trivial matter, but for music buffs (or in my case....music junkies), the difference between using an artist tag vs album artist tag can be pretty huge; especially, if you listen to genres of music where collaborations are a way of life. Please forgive me if this matter has already been brought up elsewhere (I tried a search but couldn't find it). Right now I have a "test" server that I'm using to work out the kinks and learn the system before setting up the final deal. Thanks in advance if there's someone out there that can point in the right direction!

  23. Hi, I've just recently run into a problem with MB Theater - I'm not able to play any of my audio files e.g. flac or mp3. I originally set up foobar to play these and it has been working fine for months. Now when I try and play a song I get the error message: "There was an error processing the request". I've tried re-installing MB Theater but I keep getting the same problem even when I configure MPC or VLC to play them. Pulling my hair out now. These files play fine in MB Classic through foobar. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Server version is Version 3.0.5366.22005 MB Theater version is 3.0.5370.26895 I've uploaded the log filetheater-63546502043.txt

    MP3 vs FLAC

Hello anybody I have quite a large MP3 collection (majority 320kbps) and have avoided FLAC, and converted it to mp3. My question is am I missing something? Is anyone out there a devout flac audiophile that can put me straight on the subject. And how do I use it with Emby?
