I tried 3 different users on two different rokus and i don't get the Halloween theme. Checked the user accounts and the enable holiday themes is ticked. And it does work for said accounts via Android and XBOX? Theme stays as settings... dark on dark. Just curious.....

Hello, I just downloaded the Emby media server after long term issues with Plex. The sever is up and running on my host PC but I cannot access it from a Roku or Samsung Smart TV I tried the Emby smart comment and when I use the link, it takes me to the screen that says add server. It's not showing the server I have running. I enabled port 8096 in the firewall. I tried connecting to the remote server with no access. I tried to see my local host IP but when I go to dashboard it doesn't show, only the remote. I really want this to work, any ideas?

I'm putting this here instead of the Roku section, because I don't want this to be taken as a request for support. (It's really just a rant with a question mark.) The question is why does everything in my library look worse on a Roku than on any other device? I'm talking about direct play here - no transcoding involved. I should say I haven't tested the high-end Rokus. I think the most expensive one I've seen is the Roku Premiere. By "worse" I mean not as detailed, generally dull looking, and it's especially bad in dark scenes - the blockiness is truly depressing. It's as if the Rokus are designed to take the incoming video and re-encode it, badly. That's crazy, right? I must be wrong. There's no reason to take a perfectly good file and re-do the whole thing. Just play it. Just play the dang file. Here I am taking the time to ensure I have the best quality media, and Roku is like Forget all that! We'll just make all new video on the spot! ?????? Maybe that's not what's happening, but it sure looks like it. Am I crazy?

When displaying Scheduled Recordings all the display items are one day out. For example recordings scheduled for today are displayed as Tomorrow. This only happens when using Roku it does not occur using Android or Windows 10. Also when using Roku even though the playback skip forward setting is 30 seconds the video only skips forward 10 seconds. Again this only happens when using Roku. Is anyone else affected?

Basically if I’m watching a show on Roku or my iPhone and turn the computer that the server is running on, will the videos still play (including the next episodes)?

Hello, Recently I've been noticing while playing back live TV from my hdhomerun and hdhomerun prime that while playback is happening it occasionally freezes on a frame and keeps playing audio; it just gets stuck on a frame and resumes playing audio. If I pause/play the frame remains frozen - if I fast forward then hit play it'll sometimes recover where it will pick up just before the frozen frame was encountered, but it seems like the time bar is all wrong with where it's at in the stream.... I've encountered this while watching live TV as well with recorded TV and I do have a captured stream where I can reliably hit the frozen frame issue I'm describing. I've tried the alternative transcoding option that's available while playing the stream, but it still freezes... This is a bit tricky to diagnose since it seems like some bad frames are getting to the Roku and it's causing it to freeze on the bad frame. If I play the same recording on the web client I don't get the issue happening either... I'm hoping there can be a fix for this since it seems to be happening more frequently as time grinds on. If there's something more I can try to provide with this I'll try to help, but as of right now I'm not sure what would be valuable information to provide...

Is there any equivalent to Plex's force subtitle transcoding > always in Emby? I like how the subs are bigger and has shadow when i burn them in roku, but in Emby they look kind of difficult to read, I am attaching 2 pictures so you can see the difference. One image is from Emby one is from Plex , same file, just burn in set to always. So is there anyway I can achieve sub like picture 2 on picture 1? Thanks.

This issue has just started popping up for me and I have since just ignored it as it is an inconvenience only. This only occurs on the first run of a new video file and on the 2nd attempt it plays just fine. According to the stats there is no transcoding occurring for the media files this is occurring on. My Nvidia shield, the server and an additional client, plays everything just fine and so I'm sure this is a Roku specific issue. Anybody have any ideas off the top of their head and what logs do we need to look at to determine the cause? Thanks in advance.

I have noticed that my regular video content unpauses after 60 seconds. This happens on both the streaming stick and premiere +. Any ideas? thanks, René

It would be nice if the Emby roku app had an screesaver of the movies you have on the library.

So I'm pretty much brand new to the media server thing, and hoping someone can jump start my feeble knowledge on the subject. I've got a netgear R6350, so I can't install the emby server side app on it, but it is capable of running NAS via USB. I'm looking to run emby client side from Roku TVs/boxes. Can I set up the server manually (via IP and port) or do you have to have both the client and server side communicating?

Hi I have Emby server installed in a Fedora 32 Box running fine, and accessible from other android devices across my network; However, trying to access from Roku Emby application, I keep receiving the message "Unable to Connet - We are unable to connect to that media browser server. I'm getting this issue again where certain movies either won't play or stop after a certain amount of time. Only now everything I own is brand new (My computer is the oldest since I did a complete upgrade of everything in it last July) TV: Roku TV, TCL model 65R625, software version 9.2.2, build 6118-88 Receiver: Dennon model AVRS750H, DTS HD Master/ DTS:X / DTS Neural:X / DTS Virtual:X / Dolby TrueHD / Dolby Atmos / Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization / Dolby Surround / Multichannel Stereo Emby Roku App Beta version 4.0, build 0 Computer: Windows 10 version 1909 build 18363.778 AMD Ryzen 5 3400G processor Gigabyte B450 AORUS M motherboard Realtek® ALC892 codec High Definition Audio 2/4/5.1/7.1-channel Support for S/PDIF Out I'm quite certain that this is an audio issue because when it started happening again, I went back to the original advice given to me of changing the Roku audio setting to anything that didn't say DTS. And it worked, sort of. I was hoping that with all new hardware that this problem wouldn't come up again but it did. When I say "sort of", I mean sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes switching to Dolby Digital gets it to play, and sometimes it doesn't. Problem: transcoding a movie with 6-channel audio on a 2-channel (stereo) it TV causes the playback to loop, play a bit, then loop, then play a bit, then loop. This only starts to happen after an hour or so of the movie's playtime. If I fast forward a movie to an hour and ten minutes, the looping will happen. If I fast forward to the ten minute mark, or play ten minutes from the start, the looping will not happen. It only happens when I'm far into the movie. i've seen it happen with multiple movies after the hour (or so) mark. Server Platform: Raspberry PI 4 Server Version: Emby 4.3, and 4.4 beta. (I never saw this happen on 4.1... not sure about 4.2) Affected Apps: Emby on TCL TV with Roku Software, Roku Stick, old Roku box. Unaffected: Emby app on Samsung Galaxy, Emby played through a browser on a few laptops I've tried. I'm guessing transcoding is not happening so those are unaffected. I did not notice this happening until recently after I upgraded emby to 4.3 (from 4.1 or 4.2... sorry I don't recall the version I was using) and upgraded the hardware to a Raspberry PI 4 from a 3. I tried upgrading from 4.3 to the 4.4 beta, but the problem persists. I've tried adjusting transcoding settings, a variety of ways, including turning on and off hardware transcoding. Nothing seems to make any difference. The frequency of the looping happens roughly every few seconds at the max, and a high volume of ffmpeg-remux logfiles get generated. I've uploaded the server logfile, and several of the ffmpeg-remux log files (there are around 20 per minute generated sometimes) embyserver.txt ffmpeg-remux-1227e031-e60a-498d-bb6a-2a0dd5c5c08b_1.txt ffmpeg-remux-bf700119-a27c-4a9c-9a75-0bb32017e6cd_1.txt ffmpeg-remux-c82537e4-2b42-45fc-b58a-dc9439cac80b_1.txt hardware_detection-63713319499.txt

Playing Blu-Ray Rips Off External HDD In EMBY App On TCL Roku 4K HDR TV
dn_angel000 posted a topic in MacOS
So I recently bought a Late 2018 Mac Mini off eBay that I just turned into a media server using Emby and I set things up (i.e. Server Settings, Media Directory Paths, Media Libraries, etc) for the TV Shows and Movies as well as Anime and Anime Movies all on separate 2TB External Drives and my Movies (Blu-Ray) that I'm using MakeMKV to rip them is set to a WD 5TB External HDD. So when I set the directory for these movies to the 5TB Drive and play these movies on my TCL Roku 4K HDR TV in the EMBY TV App I get a "Retrieving" loading come up and it "retrieves" multiple time eventually giving back an error and this happens with multiple movies when I try to play them. So what's up? Media Server Specs: Mac Mini Late 2018 3.6GHz Quad Core i3 8GB RAM (64GB upgrade yet to be installed) EMBY Server v4.4.2.0 (In Safari) EMBY App v3.0 build 212 (TCL Roku TV) Any other details you need that aren't listed just ask.- 2 replies

After updating Emby to 4.4.0.40 I am able to stream fine from the web but when accessing content from Roku I am having issues with really slow loading and once it loads after a few min it starts loading again. So far from my observations It appears to be more of an issue when watching content that needs to be transcoded. Any Suggestions? --Loads fast and has no issue on ios but I noticed that it is direct streaming

This is a capture of the home screen on the browser version of Emby. This simple little addition is all I wish the Roku app had. I really dislike having to: Going into a Library (eg. "Movies" or "TV Shows"), Selecting "All Movies/Shows" at the top, Pressing the Star * key on the Roku remote to access Options. On the right, a popout menu will appear, Under "Filter" check the box labeled "Favorites." Such a hassle! Seems like every other version of Emby app has this top Favorites toggle at the top except Roku. Please add it developers!

Hi, I could not seem to find any other posts so forgive me if I am making a repetitive post. But one of the features I love about the web GUI and the Mobile apps is the ability to go to the "Songs" option under music to play a shuffle of all my tracks, currently on the Roku app I do not see this as an option. I know I can create a playlist, but would much prefer to have the same functionality on the Roku app that I have on the mobile and tablet apps.

Hello I'm using the app for Roku right now, have not tried my Apple TV yet so this is all relevant to Roku only. The features that are needed are as follows: Favorite a channel in the guide direct tune to a channel if you move too fast through the guide it freezes and you have to back out of the app entirely, there needs to be a 'refresh' More sorting options, sometimes i want to sort by name of program since i know what i'm looking for just don't know the channel, likewise need more sorting options overall Please let me know if i just simply overlooked a feature and posted it above. Thanks.

Earlier today my Emby updated: ---- Emby Server on Emby Server has been updated to 4.3.0.26 11/23/2019, 8:24:28 am ---- Since then the sorting on my Roku has gone messed. I normally have things sorted by alpha, but now it seems to just randomly sort (Doesn't match by date, by added, by anything I can tell. Just...random.) If I change the sorting to something else, then back to alpha it's fine. This is still problematic for 2 reasons: 1 - I can't sort the main screen, so my various folders are in random order now with no way to fix it. ((Edit: Number 1 has been resolved. You can change sorting from the Emby user panel. Thanks!)) 2 - Having to change the sorting hundreds of different sub-folders is a bit much. - Is there a global setting I can use to change the default sort order pushed to apps? - If not, is this a bug that might be fixed soon? - If not...help? Short of removing and re-adding all my libraries and praying, I can't think of any other way to fix. Thank you.

When I try to send a message to a device it works for laptop/PC devices using the website but it does not work for a Smart TV (Roku). I've literally stood in front of the TV and from my phone sent a message to the Smart TV client and it did not come up on the screen while a movie was playing. This send message to device feature does work on Android Emby App (smart phone) and laptop/PC using the website. I am not certain if it works for Apple Emby App however as I do not have any Apple devices.

Remotely connecting to a PC's Emby server without disabling the VPN.
Whippix posted a topic in General/Windows
The PC that I have set up an Emby server on uses Mullvad VPN often, but not always. My goal is to be able to watch the server's media files through other devices, no matter if the VPN is active or inactive. When the VPN is active, the connection fails. When the VPN is inactive, the connection succeeds. Mullvad allows port fowarding, and I've read a few guides on that, as well as the Connectivity Wiki for Emby but am still having trouble, either because I don't quite understand how it works or because the guides weren't specific enough for my issue. So far, I have only tried to connect through a Fire Stick and it works only when the VPN is inactive. If the VPN is on, entering either the LAN and WAN address still gives a connection error. Emby Connect has connected my user account to the server, but the server still does not show on the app after entering the pin. I appreciate any suggestions that you can give. -
Roku TV Latest Roku Emby channel Linuxserver.io Docker container Forwarded both HTTP and HTTPS ports in my WAN facing router Checked these ports externally and both are allowing traffic Emby detects my Emby server without any issue. I click Connect and the app sits for a few seconds attempting to connect. Connection eventually times out with an error stating just that. I then can remove the server and manually input the IP address of the Emby server. It connects fine without any issue. Why can I manually connect but not automatically through Emby Connect?

Hi, To begin, I must say that I am very impressed with Emby so far. I have been a Plex user for years, and just got tired of the lack of flexibility when it comes to music collections. I stumbled on Emby, and it does exactly what it should do. It gives you a simple way to access large libraries of music without making any assumptions about how you have it organized, or forcing you to completely rearrange it. My collection of music is all MP3s, and is organized by genre. I like to have playlists for each genre and listen to them randomly. Emby handles that in spades. It works flawlessly in the web interface and on the Roku. I have run into a small issue that I'm hoping you can easily fix. This happens on both the web interface and Roku 3 (Emby shows it as SG 3.0.193). On the web interface when I'm viewing playlists and select "Instant Mix" option, nothing happens. On the Roku when I open a music playlist, then select the "Instant Mix" button, it pops a "Playback error". This happens on all 5 of my playlists. My workaround is to use Shuffle for now, which is perfectly fine when on the web interface. It just takes a few more steps on the Roku since I have to play the playlist first, then shuffle it. I am running the latest release of Emby Server (4.3.0.30) on Windows Server 2019. Let me know if you need anything else. Dan.

Got my login issues fixed now for the most part and can play on the rokus, but i am having an issue with the sound not being synced up with the video. No matter what audio setting I change, which includes sound levelling to off and PCM versus autodetect. The sound is always behind on Roku, but the same video is synced up just find on my iphone or a browser or WMC. Thoughts?
