  1. I've always named my external subitles using the format of MovieName (Year).en.srt Rednoah of Filebot helped me to craft a very specific script for naming and suggested that I use .eng for the subtitles instead of .en. I have a powershell script that makes renaming the subtitles from .en to .eng a super easy operation, but I wonder if it matters to Emby which language extension is used??
  2. Hello everyone, I've a very annoying issue ony my premiere emby server where e.g. an episode of a show is being played back with subtitles. After about 2/3 the playback suddenly glitches for a moment, rewinds for 2, 3 seconds and the subtitles start from the beginning catching up to the current timestamp which takes a couple of minutes. This behavior is reproducible on multiple Android and Windows (Emby Client) devices. I can also reproduce this issue if i simply skip forward a couple of minutes in the timeline. Every time i do that, the subtitles start from the very beginning trying to catch up. So far i noticed this behavior on 2 different shows. I don't know what to troubleshoot at this point. Only thing i can think of is to create a new emby server in a container and try to reproduce this behavior their again. Anybody has any tips or input how to solve this issue? If i can collect any logs, record the behavior or anything else to help you help me troubleshoot this, let me know. Thank you
  3. Hi. I'm facing same issue. While "remember audio" works as expected and changes the audio of all episodes when you change it in one, "remember subtitles" option doesn't work at all. No matter what subtitle mode you set, subtitles are not propagated to other episodes. Do we have any update to this topic?
  4. Seems to work as expected for audio tracks, but it's completely broken for subtitle tracks. I can't get the subtitles to stick for other episodes under any scenario. Even if I reach the end of one episode with the desired track selected and let it auto play the next episode, it starts with no subtitles selected (or whatever the default would dictate).
  5. Hi, together. Since a while I wanted to report some - in my humble opinion - wrong subtitle choosing behaviour in the emby player, at least on web, android and firetv-app. Maybe it could even be a server issue - I'm not sure, where this behaviour ultimately comes from. Lets start with my understanding, what standard and forced subtitle flags mean (cause different understanding could cause trouble when discussing) and please feel free to correct me, if I'm wrong: When a subtitle track is flagged "standard" in a media file, in most cases it means that a player should automatically select this track to show/play on your screen while playing your media. If you'd imagine watching an film or an anime with foreign dubs, the subtitle in your preferred language should/could be flagged "standard, so that you never have to actively select it with additional interactions in your player. When a subtitle track is flagged "forced", in my humble opinion (and how its typically implemented on film BDs and DVDs and on some subbed animes) the subtitle should be played "additionally" to the currently selected subtitle track, either "off", "standard" or whichever track is actually selected to play/show. When a subtitle track isn't flagged at all, the subtitle track should not be selected by the video player at all and is only used by discretion of the user. Forced and Standard flag on a subtitle track CAN be mixed together. If deselected from the user, a video player should anyways show whatever is in this track. Mostly used for foreign signs in films and animes. Now to my point, why I'm making the distinctions: My Emby players, either on my phone or on my fireTV stick - but also the webplayer, so maybe its an server issue? - always choose forced flagged subtitle tracks over any "standard" track which completely disrupts any watch or binging session, because its saved for every file/episode, so just manually correcting it for an episode is no help, because the next one starts with the wrong subtitle all again. It's even worse, when you don't use the subtitle configuration on the emby server, but try to use the audio and subtitle track config in your files, so rewatching a series results in the same wrong subtitle selection. An example from an episode of an anime: Thats how my subtitle options look in relevant casesright after starting playback and how it looks on the mkv-metadata config of the specific file: For your help the translation: Aus = off Ja = yes Nein = no "Erzwungen" / "Anzeige erzwingen" = "forced", here in this case "S&S" stands for "Songs & Signs", cause its an anime Starting this file locally on my pc with "vlc" or "media player classic" or starting it with kodi as a backend works perfectly fine: The Dialog subtititle track gets choosed, which is the important point here and depending of the player capabilites the forced subtitles additionally show up. But playing it over emby or emby apps always results in playing the "signs and songs" subtitle track and forcing the user to interact with the player. Could you look into this topic for the future? Regarding my expectations here: It's not a huge issue when watching films, and since I'm mostly using Kodi on my FireTV stick, the issue arises not that often. But occasionally I watch my stoff when commuting, and in these occassions I regularly notice the wrongly choosed subtitles. Anyway I don't expect you to rush here. Check, if the actual implementation is how you intended it and if you think that point could be corrected, do it whenever it works out for you guys. Keep up the nice work. Kind regards from a happy Lifetime license user Roke PS: I tried to find any related topics, but didn't see any. Feel free to move the topic or close it, if the point was already adressed elsewhere.
  6. Same deal for me, except it's not all shows. Here's a short log from one that doesn't work. Some stuff redacted. embyserver.txt
  7. Hi Team, I'm currently using the latest build of the Android Universal app (the version that works on Android TV). I've tested playback of the same file on Emby Web, and everything works fine there. However, I came across a thread mentioning issues with SRT and ASS subtitles on the Universal app. Is this a known issue with the current version? Edit: I converted a SRT subtitle file to an ASS subtitle file using Aegisub, and it seems to work on Universal? Thanks in advance!
  8. Not sure if something changed recently, so I'm posting this to see if others are having the same problem. My primary devices are Firestick and ShieldTV and Chrome browser AppleTV OS 18.2 Emby for AppleTV 1.9.2 (1) Video file used to test, Silo S01E01 WEB-DL with subrip subtitles (also used The Day of the Jackal, especially important, as there are foreign language parts that need forced english subtitles) Initiating play, playback quality set to Auto, file direct plays instantly, subtitles appear, skipping forward and backward is instant. During playback, if I force playback quality setting low enough that it needs to transcode, (1080p - 5Mbps), the video freezes, the video card disappears from the emby dashboard, after several seconds (10+), the video card appears in the emby dashboard, shows that it’s transcoding but no subtitles appear. The same video file testing playback, subtitles appear on Emby for Android and Emby for AndroidTV on phones, Firestick and ShieldTV and Chrome browser, regardless of direct play or transcoding with QuickSync. Attached logs, created a user for testing named “appletv” Testing was happening just before 10:06PM ET. embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-cadc7b32-ed81-49aa-ba52-9d6a0c763251_1.txt
  9. Hello There, When i want to look at a movie with subrip subtitles in it, the webos app can't find a good stream, when i put it to no subtitles movie will start normal. If i put subrip subtitle on during the movie de movie just won't continue, The other app in the webos store called "Screenplay" will play the movie without any problem. I know it is not a server problem because on all devices it works fabulous, only the webos app has this problem. When i download a subtitle and load it, there is no problem, the problem only exists when the subtitle is packed in the movie. (*.mkv file)
  10. Hello, This is most certainly a very annoying bug. Emby client (Android TV) on Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 is skipping lines from srt file while Emby for Android on Shield and Emby for Android on an Android phone is not doing that. Maybe this will help you in debug: In additional tests, Plex client on Shield is having the same bug! Haven't find the time to test Jellyfin but why 2 different media servers' clients having the same bug on the same place. (Skipped lines from srt files are at the same place for both clients) From the attached subtitle. 87 is missing from video screen: There lots of missing lines on screen from subtitle file from now on. It begins with this line. Sharing screenshot from Android client and AndroidTV client: Jujutsu. Kaisen. S01E01. 1080p. WEB-DL. x265. 10Bit. 2CH. HEVC-sLaX.srt
  11. I have a video file with multiple commentary tracks and subtitles, all of which have descriptive titles that appear in Emby as expected (for instance, a commentary audio track with a title like "Commentary from Director Ron Howard and Producer Brian Grazer"). When I load this file in Handbrake, these descriptive titles also appear as the track names for each of the appropriate audio and subtitle tracks. When I convert this file using Handbrake and then add the newly generated file to my Emby library, none of the descriptive titles appear (to be clear, all of the audio and subtitle tracks ARE present, they just don't have any descriptive titles). The audio and subtitle tracks survive the conversion process, and if I open the converted file in Handbrake, I do see the track titles that I expect. I don't necessarily think that this is an issue related to Emby, I was just curious if anyone else had run into this issue in the past and knew of a solution.

    Default subtitle selection

I hope that the default subtitle will no longer be none, but an existing subtitle.
  13. Would really like to have a separate “Subtitle Mode” for LiveTV vs Library items. I typically only watch live tv for sports, which captions often are more of a hinderance than a help. I’m certain i’m not alone in this. Ideally would have “always” for library items and “No subtitles” for live tv on my profile. I have seen this very topic discussed in other areas of the forum but couldn’t find a feature request for it.
  14. I am from Germany. English audio is not preferred but a little bit possible, for subtitles english is great. If I have foreign Audio (e.g. Japanese), I would like to use german, or if not available, english subs. Therefore I select subtitle options like this: If I do, one Series (German Audio, German forced subs) works perfect. But Bartender does not. It has Japanese Audio and German as well as English subs, but it selects neither: If I remove "English" from the preferred Sub languages, it correctly selects German. I would like to select both because I also have series with english subs only. Is there any Option to fix this?
  15. I have subtitles turned on for different shows I watch if necessary. An example is 3 Body Problem has a lot of subtitles in it. At least in the episodes I've watched. When I play it on my phone I can see them fine and switch to other subtitle options all showing as expected. If I cast to my Chromecast no subtitles appear on screen for any title that I happen to be watching. I turned on logs but not sure if it needs more time to populated because nothing is there including the folder within android that the website recommends checking. Happy to provide screenshots of necessary but at this point in time I can only show screenshots of proofs that they show on my phone and a picture of my TV to show they aren't there but I assumed that wasn't great for narrowing down the issue.
  16. The subtitles play fine with the android app with direct play, but the web player fails with: I've tried multiple files, all with .ass subtitles and embedded fonts and all fail. This is with "Allow subtitle extraction on the fly" unchecked. That option allows the video to play but it does not even display generic srt-type subs, it just plays without subtitles. ffmpeg-transcode-7310c3f5-6549-4467-ae69-4de36eb64160_1.txt embyserver.txt
  17. This is an FYI kind of post because I spent some time scratching my head before I figured it out... I use subtitles all the time in the form of external .SRT files and have never had any problems with them working. I just added Generation Kill to my library, ran Subtitle Edit in batch mode to strip out the HI stuff and it all looked good locally through MPC-HC. I copied it over to my Emby server to watch and found that it wasn't showing the subtitles. Emby knew all about the subtitles, they just weren't playing. To make a long story of troubleshooting shorter, I used Subtitle Edit in Batch Mode to "Fix Common Errors" and whatever that did, now the subtitles all worked without any issues. [For multiple Subtitles] Subtitle Edit: Tools > Batch Convert > Check FIX COMMON ERRORS [For a single subtitle] Subtitle Edit: Tools > FIX COMMON ERRORS The screen capture shows the batch settings that I use for every subtitle now. I hope that this helps someone, because it gave me an unwanted something to do for an hour.
  18. Hi ! I use my own videos which have SRT sidecars. I want the search engine to take into account the text in these SRT files, is that something emby could do ? For instance if I type the word "sleep", it will show any video which has the occurrence "sleep" in its subtitle file, better yet, when I click on the video, it takes me to the exact location of this occurrence. Is that implemented or supported by any plugin ? Thanks in advance !
  19. I've downloaded the latest and set up the Emby Server (Docker) environment and I've been thoroughly enjoying this wonderful application so far. I was using muxed MKVs with embedded subs (PGS) and it all worked perfectly. Direct play in 4K and Software Transcoding worked fine, both displayed the embedded subs perfectly well. I'll use Oppenheimer here as an example. (Subs here are located slightly to the left of the frame, that's due to the subs included and not a fault on Emby's part.) Of course when I confirmed all worked well, I had to try out Hardware encoding for more powerful conversion and the possibility for friends and family to access my repository remotely. Now I noticed multiple "shortcomings" that came with this: - A noticable green hue (compare the two images), alltough this might the fault of wrongly transcoded DV HDR filter (doing research on that) - When using the embedded subs (preferable due to perfect audio timing), I notice that when HARDWARE trancoding specifically, the subs seem to get misplaced, seemingly in the 1920x1080 quadrant of a 4k frame... but that is indeed very strange behaviour. Both transcode logs are included, aptly named. I will add that while both are pretty big downfalls, mostly the subtitle problem is actually dealbreaking as most of my users will need subtitles. I tried to download SRT subtitles as a substitution, that resulted in the following on the Web Client: The green hue remains, but the SRT subs are correctly displayed in the Web Client, Huzzah! I test on the Windows Theather app: Nothing... And the hue persists also here. When I try to get the PGS subs to work in here after a 4k > 1080p transcode just like in web player, they seems to shift to the wrong place. Of this last two screenshots there's also a ffmpeg log included, aptly named. I will admit that I've searched on this topic for quite a bit allready and nothing seems to resolve the subtitles missing or being misplaced. Is this a known issue? Has this been seen before? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! 20. Hi, so i have some kind of a stuttering issue. Each time a subtitle appears on screen the playback doesnt rly stutter but it glitches as if it was resizing the resolution for a fraction of a second, the issue only occurs on one of my screens and also if i put the playback in fullscreen on that one screen. If i put the playback on the other screen theres not a single issue. I rly dont understand whats causing this damn issue since everything works just fine on my other screen.. Both screens have the same resolution of 1920x1080, the "bugged" one is 144hz and the "good" one is 75hz I installed drivers for the "bugged" screen but nothing changed same when i downgraded the refresh rate of that screen to 75hz wich didnt solve the problem, i dont rly know what to test now so if someone have any idea of what may be going on i'd be very gratefull !
  21. I recently installed Emby Server (Version 4.8.3.0) via Docker and added some test files to my TV Show library. I also added some subtitles for different languages: 'Foundation (2021) - S01E01 - The Emperor’s Peace [WEBDL-1080p][EAC3 Atmos 5.1][h264]-ggez.de.srt' 'Foundation (2021) - S01E01 - The Emperor’s Peace [WEBDL-1080p][EAC3 Atmos 5.1][h264]-ggez.en.srt' 'Foundation (2021) - S01E01 - The Emperor’s Peace [WEBDL-1080p][EAC3 Atmos 5.1][h264]-ggez.es.srt' 'Foundation (2021) - S01E01 - The Emperor’s Peace [WEBDL-1080p][EAC3 Atmos 5.1][h264]-ggez.mkv' When looking at that episode's media info, the subtitles are being displayed as available (see attachment 01.png). When looking for them in the web player, they aren't listed, though (see 02.png). I rescanned my library several times, to no avail. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong?

  23. Hello here, this is my setup and it does not work : 3.8 on Android TV Nvidia shield. When I download and play a "next episode" it takes default values regardless the very same subtitle exists.
  24. @LukeFound in Beta, and reproduced in Stable 4.8.1.0 Now that OpenSubtitles have SDH indicators in search results: the expectation was that when downloaded they would be named accordingly so that "Hearing Impaired" info was retained. However, files are downloaded and are missing the appropriate ".en.sdh.srt" Was able to reproduce with different media, same result. Log attached is for the above example. embyserver.txt
  25. Hey @Luke Sorry to necro a really old post but I'm actually having the the same issue again with the latest few versions of OpenSubtitles. It seems the search is completely ignoring episode information/metadata and only searching based on the file name. Most of my library is organized as \Show name (2000)\Season 1\S01E01.mkv and for any of these files I get zero results on subtitle searches. Movies, and the odd TV show that does have at least the episode name in the title seem to search fine. Any thoughts?
