    Subtitles always playing

Every time I watch anything on the Roku that has subtitles with it, it always plays the subs even though they aren't forced and I have to manually go and turn it off. I don't think this is the expected behavior. Is there any way to disable subs unless they are forced?
  2. Hi, I have noticed that for the movies that are multi-part (from several discs), the subtitles are downloaded only for the 1st part of the movie. The 2nd part is ignored. Example of contents of directory: <movie name> - Part 1 - 1080p 3D-FTAB.eng.srt <movie name> - Part 1 - 1080p 3D-FTAB.fre.srt <movie name> - Part 1 - 1080p 3D-FTAB.jpn.srt <movie name> - Part 1 - 1080p 3D-FTAB.mkv <movie name> - Part 1 - 1080p 3D-FTAB.nfo <movie name> - Part 2 - 1080p 3D-FTAB.mkv This also applies if the files are named this way: <movie name> - 1080p 3D-FTAB - Part1.eng.srt <movie name> - 1080p 3D-FTAB - Part1.fre.srt <movie name> - 1080p 3D-FTAB - Part1.jpn.srt <movie name> - 1080p 3D-FTAB - Part1.mkv <movie name> - 1080p 3D-FTAB - Part1.nfo <movie name> - 1080p 3D-FTAB - Part2.mkv The multiple parts are correctly recognized by the emby server. In this particular case, the subtitles for part 1 extend over the 2 parts. However as expected the subtitles are only displayed when playing the 1st part, and not with the 2nd one. So I guess this particular situation has not been taken into account into the plugin design. I understand it is not obvious since when the movie is in 2 or more parts: - the plugin has to check if there are corresponding subtitles for each part (with the right number and duration of each part) - alternatively, when the only subtitles available are all in 1 file : the plugin must fetch the right file (taking account the several parts as a whole for the duration, naming etc.), and the player must also take this into account (use the 1st part subtitle file with adequate time offsets for each other part) ==> taking all this into account, is there an automatic workaround or a way to correct the plugin and/or player behavior ? Thanks & regards, D

    Subtitles not shown on resume

Hey, with the switch to the intermediate "emby-loading.mp4" video, I started seeing subtitle issues when resuming playback - I can switch between them, but they're not shown. I've seen a handful of similar topics, but none treated about playback resume, which is the only breaking case for me. Please find attached the plugin debug log. 4. Hi, I've put my subtitles on the same folder where the content is in and I made sure of the format that it's supposed to be in (Aaaaa.eng.srt, I think) and I've restarted and scanned my emby server several times, and I still get no external subtitles. What should I do? Also, is there any specific format for Episode and Season external subtitles or can I name the subtitles however I want, just as long as the language is formatted perfectly (Aaaaa.ara.S01E01.srt)?
  5. I really like using Emby to manage my movie and TV libraries, and to provide remote access to them. When I'm home, for various reasons, I use Kodi as my player, rather than one of the Emby apps. I use the Emby for Kodi add-on, the Embuary skin, and configure them for native/direct play over nfs to my nas. I have both Emby and Kodi configured to store subtitles alongside the video files. Emby is configured to download external srt subtitles from opensubtitles.org for movies and episodes that have neither external subtitles already, nor subtitles encoded into the video file itself. I only need/use English subtitles. All of that works beautifully most of the time. When doing direct-play in Kodi, it will use the embedded subtitle found in the video container file, or the external *.eng.srt file downloaded and saved by Emby. When I notice that subtitles are out-of-sync with the video, one of the nice ways I can solve that within Kodi is to use their mechanism for picking and downloading a new srt subtitle file from opensubtitles.org. I pick a file that I think will more closely match the video file I have, download it, and continue to play the video to test the new subtitles. It usually only takes one or two tries to find a subtitle file that is perfectly synchronized. However, Emby saves subtitle files as *.eng.srt and Kodi saves them as *.en.srt. So, after choosing and downloading an in-sync subtitle file in Kodi, I now have two subtitle files on disk--one that is in sync with the video (named *.en.srt) and one that is out-of-sync with the video (named *.eng.srt). Although Kodi saves the file using the 'en' tag, it seems to also recognize files that use the 'eng' language tag in their names. It seems to prefer the *.en.srt file if available, either because that's the naming standard it uses when it saves, or because that file is newer, I'm not sure which. I'm not sure how Emby decides which file to use as the English subtitle file when streaming, but if it picks the same one it saved, it will be the out-of-sync one. All of this would be solved though, if Emby and Kodi both used the same language tag standard. Kodi seems to be using either ISO 639-1, or the IANA Language Subtag Registry. I'm not sure which because both of those use 'en' as the code for English. Emby, on the other hand, seems to be using ISO 639-2. There are quite a few different standards for language tags. See the tags I've given this topic for some of them. The only guidance I could find when searching for preferred standards for this type of use came from W3C in this document: https://www.w3.org/International/questions/qa-lang-2or3 Their recommendation is to use the IANA Language Subtag Registry instead of ISO 639-1 or ISO 639-2. If that's the case, then I think Kodi is correct to us 'en' instead of 'eng'. Thanks so much for any help with this. I hope that Emby and Kodi can get on the same page for which language tags to use when naming srt files.
  6. I've a problem with misaligned/scaled subtitles (vobsub) with some of my media. I attached a screenshot showing that the subtitles burnt in during transcoding are not centered. It looks like the scaling of the subtitles is a bit off. This might cause the misalignment. I figured out, that the issue only come up when I crop letterboxed media to get the actual or intended aspect ratio of my media files while rendering. I also tested if anamorphic rendering has any influence to this problem, but the issue seems to be not affected by this, Emby is handling this (mostly) with no issues. A external player like VLC is handling this correctly. I'm on Emby 3.5.2.0 running in a Docker container. But the issue is not related to this specific version of Emby. I'm pretty sure this issue come up with a Emby update a while ago, but I cannot reproduce with which version this issue came up anymore. Additionally I'm using the Web App with Firefox 62. External subtitles ANSI

I am running MediaBrowser Server (Version 3.0.5238.39498) on a Windows 8.1 box. I also use HTML, Roku, Windows and Android app as clients. My problem is external srt subtitles support and I think it relates to the server because the problem is the same to all client apps. My language is Portuguese and therefore we use accented characters like "á" or "ã" or even "ç". When external subtitles are shown, some lines are just not displayed. This has always been this way on all Server versions and on all client apps. I usually circumvent this problem by embedding the subtitles on the MKV and then they are always displayed accordingly. Today I tested one subtitle again just to see the missing lines. Then I noticed all lines displayed had no accented characters. And I got an idea. I opened the SRT file on notepad and saved it as a UTF-8 file. Then tested again and all subtitles were displayed accordingly. So my conclusion is the problem relates only to accented subtitles on ANSI SRT files. This is, though, a huge problem as I currently have over 1500 titles most of them with external ANSI SRT subtitles. Also most of subtitles I get are on ANSI files. Is there any way to tackle this issue? Any configuration? Do you think this could be addressed on a future MediaBrowser version? Attached is a SRT file containing Brazilian Portuguese text which can be used on a test. TheWolfofWallStreet2013.zip Thanks in advance and congratulations for the groundbreaking product.
  8. Would it be possible to add subliminal support? I would use nzbget but sonarr doesn't move subtitles, so I am forced to use the plex addon. I am trying to move away from plex. http://subliminal.readthedocs.org/en/latest/ Plex addon - https://github.com/bramwalet/Subliminal.bundle Plex forum post - https://forums.plex.tv/index.php/topic/96350-release-subliminal-subtitles-addic7ed-podnapisi-opensubtitles/ This would be much appreciated!
  9. Hello, Hebrew subtitles are not displayed correctly in my emby server either in the web player or in the LG TV app. the problem is essentially the same as was previously reported here for iOS: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/3137 (probably an issue with left-to-right languages in general) for example this is a text from a hebrew srt file: 23 00:04:57,124 --> 00:05:00,999 ?מה קורה .אני לא שומע אתכם this is a screenshot from the emby player - note the misplaced punctuation: this is a screenshot from VLC player where the same subtitle file is displayed correctly: can this be fixed ?
  10. Hello, A few months ago i've opened an issue regarding the punctuation problem in iOS & tvOS for the Hebrew languages, you can see the issue here: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/3137 In the last Beta version i saw that this issue is partialy resolved, now the punctuation appears in the correct way, but sometimes there is a '-' in the end of the line instead of a dot, see photo for example: But when i play the video in the Chrome browser on my Mac i have the punctuation problem, see photo for example: Here is the Subtitles file: Escape Plan 2 Hades 2018 - Bluray-1080p-LEGi0N.heb.forced.srt.zip Here is Emby Server log file: Server_Logs.zip Thanks, Idan
  11. Hi, Just replaced a plex installation with emby and it's all working but subtitle download. Every time i get "no search results". Went to opensubtitles and searched with the filename that I'm trying (Birdman.2014.1080p.BluRay.x264.YIFY.mp4) and got results. Tried on linux/firefox and android app, no search results on any of them. Didn't found any related error on logs (see attachment), only a "Error Dlna: Error creating PlayTo device" recurring error, but I don't think it's related. Any hints? thanks in advance Oton emby.log
  12. Just noticed something that I hadn't paid attention to before. On other devices, the "more" option on a movie gives a bunch of options that are missing on the FireTV, "Edit subtitles" being one of them. It's pretty handy to be able to download subtitles from the app. As it stands now, I need to open the app on my phone and download the subtitles from there. Is this a bug or is it supposed to be this way, is it just me, or is it a bug? Thanks!
  13. Hi forum! Emby's organization has been great. Unfortunately I've been hitting the "no compatible streams" error when trying to play some content. Length and bitrate of the content doesn't seem to affect it, I can't figure out why some files hit this error and others don't. When I select "play" from the web interface, the system goes to the loading screen, the loading animation runs for about two minutes, then I get an error indicating there are no compatible streams. On Roku the video loads for a long time and then does not play, or sometimes plays for a few seconds then hangs for another minute. It looks like these files are forcing transcoding. I've been using a slightly modified version of handbrake's settings for Roku with web optimization enabled. If there are better handbrake settings to avoid retranscoding, let me know. (Looks like TranscodeReasons=SubtitleCodecNotSupported is added in the encoding file -- are my embedded subtitles causing the issue? Is it better practice to keep subs as separate files in the library?) Thanks for your time and a great app, (Log.txt is the server log, log2-4.txt are transcoding logs that all happened around the same time.) Log.txt Log2.txt Log3.txt Log4.txt

    Subtitles causing transcoding

I just discovered Emby App on my new LG B8 TV. So, I downloaded 4.0.1.0 Emby Server and installed the pkg on my OMV Debian server (4.17) running on HP Micro server N40L (low perf CPU). Very easy. Added a handful of movies to a test library (again easy to do). Emby app on the TV shows the added movies. When I select one movie, I can see the default audio (TrueHD) and default subtitle English SRT (embedded in the .mkv). When I play it, I noticed that the Emby server dashboard is showing "Direct streaming" but also transcoding and the server load is around 36%. No subtitles are displayed. I re-rip the movie and make the subtitle an external SRT file and call it ?????.eng.default.srt. Then select it in the Emby App, it plays the movie with the subtitles and importantly, there's no transcoding taking place. The question is, why is the server (or the App) asking for transcoding to be done for embedded subtitles ?

    LAN User Subtitles

I created a LAN User for my nvidia shield. I am unable to disable my subtitles on the Nvidia Shield when anything plays. I go into playback on my Nvidia Shield Emby app, and says to go to the web based app. I am not able to log into the my LAN user from my computer to get the web based app.... Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
  16. As the title says, the android app isn't playing subtitles on synced content. Subtitles work on non-synced stuff, and I went to where the file itself is stored and the file has the embedded subtitle track in it, and it works in a different media player. It also shows up as an option in the subtitle selection menu, but they just don't show up when selected.
  17. I have some tv shows that I previous recorded, and it has subtitles burned within the video. So my question is: Is there any way to tell Emby those specific files have subtitles? At the moment Emby dont think there is any subtitles
  18. Hi there, I'm new to Emby, switching over from Plex, and I run in a little problem. 1. As soon as I try to play a file with embedded ass / ssa subtitles, either on the web app or on my shield, it triggers a transcode. 2. Ok, assuming that the format isn't supported a transcode is ok, but why isn't the hw engine used? My CPU consuming runs up to 100% and this shouldn't occur while using hw transcode. (I checked the hw transcoding engine to VA API and added the emby user to the video group.) 3. As i tried to swich the audio language, from english to japanese, on this file on my shield it endures a lot of time to swich over and then something strange happend. When i paused the stream the video goes in paus mode, the japanese audio stream goes on hold but suddenly i can hear the english audio stream without a picture. The only way to stop it was to kill the emby app on the shield and to kill the server on my synology cause it still runs at 100% CPU. 4. Is it possible to preset the wished audio and subtitle stream on the shield app? So, sry, if i screwed it up but i am little bit confused now. Oh, by the way, if I started this topic in the wrong subforum feel free to relocate. Thx.
  19. Hi, I've been using Emby for a while on Shield TV and it works fine. Now I have got a LG TV and noticed a lot of issues. Most (maybe all) 4K videos need transcoding when using subtitles on the LG TV (something that doesn't happen in the Shield TV with the same videos and subtitles, I confirmed it). Knowing this I removed the subtitles from the MKV file and dowloaded a SRT subtitle file. Well, that works without transcoding in Emby for LG TV but it doesn't pay attention to line breaks within a subtitle entry, so the result is a mess. Tried the same Movie and SRT file again in Emby for the Shield TV (Android) and the line breaks work fine. I have seen a lot of people complaining about the transcoding in LG TV for these subtitled videos, but no real answers. All in all, it works just fine on Shield TV, so it's clearly an issue with the LG TV port. Any possibility of a bug fix?
  20. I would very much appreciate a way to quickly get an overview of which subtitles each movie/episode has! My problem is that that I often add a movie/episode before any localized subs are available. English subs are mostly available very early after a release. Maybe the subs-languages could be displayed in the the list view so that one could see at a glance which localized subs are missing? I tried automatic downloading of subs, but unfortunatly they are often out of sync! So I prefer to select them manually.
  21. Hi! Please, can you help me! I upgrade Emby server to 3.2.7 (Windows) yesterday morning. And after upgrade every subtitles have broken letters (czech letters as ě,š,č...). In version 3.2.5 and older everythink was ok. Please help me! About 8k files on my server arent working right at the moment Thank you very much
  22. It would be great to allow specific users to download subtitles.

    Search Within Subtitles

It would be great to find that one episode, of say, "Seinfeld" or "Black-ish" where someone told a particular joke or said a particular line. Being able to search for a movie or episode using the contents of subtitles would be super useful. Bonus points if those results can link you directly to the referenced time code!
  24. Whenever I go into, for example, Game of Thrones and put to edit subtitles and simply click search, it finds lots of exact matches for my language (portuguese) and I simply click in download and it works. However, if I run the subtitle downloader task (or let it run every 15 minutes) it does nothing to the subtitles. I must always download by hand.
  25. I noticed Emby Server is not recognizing the 'Forced' flag for internal subtitles in a MP4 container. Here is an example, you can see from Subler that Track 5 is subtitles and they are checked as 'Forced'. However in Emby Server it is showing the subtitles as "No" for Forced.
