    Issues swapping network.

My Emby app have issues dealing with swapping between my wifi and mobile network. the moment I change network the speed crawls to basically zero. I can successfully reproduce it on my phone 100% of the time. method of reproduction: 1: shut off wifi and restart the emby app. (make sure it's working as well) 2: turn on wifi 3: load a new page on emby. at this point the emby start loading content very slowly (60+ sec to load a movie page) 4: turn off wifi or restart the app and now the same movie page loads in an instant. This can be reproduced in the reverse order as well with the wifi activated and then turning it off. I have the latest android Emby app version and the latest Emby server version (3.4.1.0 on Ubuntu 16.04) I've got a Oneplus 3T with the latest updates. My wifi-router is a mesh network of 3 Deco m5 units. (with known internet loopback issues that's supposedly going to be fixed later this month)

    optional Network Path Question

Hello folks, Something that I have been wondering for a while now and have not been able to find a clear answer for is this... For setting up libraries, there is the folder and the optional netork path. As I am on a Mac, my folder is listed as /Volumes/Share/Movies With that in mind, should the optional network path be listed as //Server/Share/Movies or should it be \\Server\Share\Movies Currently my shares come from both Windows and Mac boxes, not that I think that makes any difference. Thanks! N

Emby isn't closing used network ports.

Hello guys, I guess I've found a nasty bug that can degrade overall Emby performance. Server: v3.0.5821 (latest stable) I accidentaly found that in some cases the ports that Emby use to allow clients connections aren`t closed as it should, after being used. Today by morning I was trying to access the WebClient interface... and it wouldn`t connect at all...at didn't returned any error, either. I confirmed that 8096 and 8920 were been listened by Emby, and both server and client were correctly connected to internal network. So... after some diagnose, I discovered that several connections were estabilished. I used the command netstat -anoe | grep ":8" in my server. While one TV was using the direct streaming, I couldn't confirm it was normal or not (strange, at most). When restarted the server, the open ports cleared, and I could connect again. Now, several hours later, with no TV or AndroidApp or Theater connected. I ran the same command and confirmed my worries: tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:8096 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 116 312514 off (0.00/0/0) tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:8920 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 116 312515 off (0.00/0/0) tcp 0 0 192.168.0.4:8096 192.168.0.101:60651 ESTABLISHED 116 316922 off (0.00/0/0) tcp 0 0 192.168.0.4:8096 192.168.0.4:53790 ESTABLISHED 116 379329 off (0.00/0/0) tcp 0 0 192.168.0.4:8096 192.168.0.107:36751 ESTABLISHED 116 307935 off (0.00/0/0) tcp 0 0 192.168.0.4:8096 192.168.0.101:43291 ESTABLISHED 116 350878 off (0.00/0/0) tcp 0 0 192.168.0.4:8096 192.168.0.107:36766 ESTABLISHED 116 312806 off (0.00/0/0) tcp 0 0 192.168.0.4:53790 192.168.0.4:8096 ESTABLISHED 116 378719 off (0.00/0/0) Not even IP .101 or .107 are online anymore since 12pm (4 hours agora). But their used ports are still opened and using O.S. resources. Can anyone reproduce this? Are server logs necessary? I'm not fond of distributing logs for every reason, as I'm paranoic about security. UPDATE: I noticed that every time I refresh the webgui (F5 in browser), it opens new ports and doesn`t closed the others, keeping the ESTABILISHED status working 4ever :-(((( UPDATE 2: After closing the browser, all connections get closed. Well... okay for now. But I forgot to tell one thing. IPs .101 and .107 above were respectively an Android Emby App and a Samsung Emby App.
  4. Hi! I am running an emby server on a remote machine that is behind Cloudflare. Everything works fine until I try to cast to a chromecast device from my android app. The app connects to the chromecast, the chromecast says "ready to cast" but when I click play nothing happens. I went through the chromecast's logs and found that the it receives the LAN instead of the WAN address: 127.29.0.2 is the local address in the docker container and the address that is displayed as LAN address in the dashboard. I censored my ids with XXXXX, as I don't know if they could be somehow abused. Casting works fine when I use emby web with Google Chrome, so it seems to be a problem exclusive to the android app (I cannot try iOS). My remote address is configured correctly and shows as https://emby.domain.com:443 in the dashboard. Is there anything I could do? Does anyone have the same problem?
  5. I currently host my Emby server on my Netgear ReadyNAS 3204. It's a wonderful device, but when "live" transcoding is triggered, playback stutters and halts because it simply isn't designed for this task. It would be great if I could offload the transcoding job over the network to another machine that has a more powerful encoder/decoder/graphics card to process with. I know this can be done with other tools (like custom-configured Handbrake installs). Due to my network structure and accessibility firewall rules, moving the Emby install to another machine for this task would be extremely complicated, and I would prefer to keep it where the data libraries are stored for sheer performance reasons. I just so happen to have an always-on blackbox Windows-based encoding machine, linked to my ReadyNAS via speedy 10GbE, and it's a shame I can't leverage it's capabilities. Having this as a premiere feature would be totally fine. In fact, it would be a selling point. So either a using a common data share with a remote app/service (like this example with Handbrake), or built-in support for distributed rendering to send transcoding jobs out to a network service you create (maybe using the transcoding code in Emby packaged into a Windows service?) would be immensely helpful and I'm sure it would create more configuration possibilities for others.
  6. Hi, I'd love some help please with a frustrating playback issue that suddenly emerged on my Nvidia Shield running Emby for Kodi (native/direct paths). Native/direct sync works. Kodi very briefly shows "Working..." when I press play, then goes back to the menu, all within half a second. My quick and highly uneducated look at the log file showed some errors around demuxing, but I don't know if that's significant. Recent changes to server I imagine it's relevant to point out I've recently upgraded my OS X version on my server machine, and also tinkered with its static IP address (but I ended up returning the address to what it was before the issue) - see below for more details. I'm sorry, I realsie it would be very helpful to be clear when the behaviour started in relation to both of those changes, but I cannot be sure which of those was responsible. Native vs Dynamic The playback error only seems to happen in my preferred native/direct path configuration, so that's a pretty good hint that it's a path/network issue I guess (I'm no IT expert). If I go through the emby for kodi app and select folders with (dynamic) written next to them they work ok, but I'd love to get the snappier native playback working again. Issue on: The playback issue is only encountered on my Nvidia Shield P2897 box, which I use Emby for Kodi (4.0.5) add-on on Kodi 18.4 (native/direct paths setup). Unaffected - these stream fine When I run Emby on my Android phone (galaxy s10e) I can access and stream videos on the server fine via Emby and VLC on the phone, but I guess they use the dynamic playback mode as well. Server My Emby Server (4.2.1.0) is running on a late 2014 iMac, which I recently updated to OS X Catalina (10.15.1). I'm sorry I cannot be specific with times, but the Kodi issues started around this time, and I saw a post about clicking on and off the sharing on the mac to get things running again, and I've done that. As mentioned above, I also changed the IP address of the server for a brief period, as my phone was taking the same IP address, but I then moved my mac back to it's original IP when I worked out how to set a static IP for my phone to stop them clashing. The server's IP is now back to the same value it was when it worked, which is the same as that in the "Shared Network Folder" in the library, and I've done Emby for Kodi database resets and resyncs to be sure the Shield has the right IP paths, but to no avail. The log is available here - I'd value the interpretations of a skilled user (scroll to 2019-11-18 at 19:16 to 19:17).

    Local Network on Kubernetes

Hi guys, So I've seen that quite a few are already running Emby in a Kubernetes Cluster. My setup currently looks like this: - One Kubernetes Node (I'm using K8s because I'm familiar with it and I like writing deployment-manifests :-) ) - A standard router from my ISP, doing port-forwards on HTTP & HTTPS - MetalLB assigning virtual IPs for loadbalancers (L2) - Nginx Ingress using a LoadBalancer, so it gets a virtual IP. uses Service with `externalTrafficPolicy: local`. - Emby using an Ingress-Resource, HTTPS, letsencrypt certificates. My issue though is that it seems like Emby considers everything to be the "local" network. From skimming through the logs: 2019-11-05 19:40:11.692 Info HttpServer: HTTP GET http://<mydomain>:8096/emby/Users/<key>. UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15) AppleWebKit/605.1.15 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/13.0.2 Safari/605.1.15 2019-11-05 19:40:11.695 Info HttpServer: HTTP Response 200 to 127.0.0.1. Time: 3ms. http://<mydomain>:8096/emby/Users/<key> A few things: My Emby instance is not reachable under http://<mydomain>:8096, but rather on https://<mydomain>:443 (through the Ingress). It seems like Emby responds to the request to localhost?? This would explain why Emby considers everything to be local network. Anybody an idea why? Or what did you guys set to actually pass through the Source IP? Like mentioned before, I'm already using `externalTrafficPolicy: Local` for the nginx-ingress service. Also, for reference, the deployment yaml: apiVersion: app/v1 kind: Deployment metadata: name: emby-server labels: app: emby spec: replicas: 1 selector: matchLabels: app: emby template: metadata: labels: run: emby-server app: emby spec: containers: - name: emby-server image: emby/embyserver:latest env: - name: "UID" value: "1030" # emby user - name: "GID" value: "1111" # share group ports: - containerPort: 8096 name: emby-http volumeMounts: - mountPath: /config name: emby-config - mountPath: /mnt/media name: emby-media volumes: - name: emby-media hostPath: type: Directory path: /media - name: emby-config hostPath: type: DirectoryOrCreate path: /mnt/cluster/emby Total noob with emby, deployed it a couple of days ago. Any help would be appreciated.

    Upload Limitations

Hi guys, here is my current scenario. Is there a bottleneck or is this realistic. I pay for a Gigabit speed internet through Bell (Canada). I have their home hub 3000 modem/router in bridge mode to my Netgear R7000. From any computer on my network I can get (according to speedtest) a maximum of 600-700 Mbps down and 300-400 Mbps up at any given time. All LAN ports are gigabit, NICs are gigabit and cables are cat 5e. With all limitations in uploading removed in Emby, the max upload speed from Emby peaks around 200 mbps. For testing, Remote friend is downloading 8 movies at a time, each transfer is maxing out at 16-24 mbps. If we do less transfers they will be faster but there is still a hard limit. Where is that limitation coming from? Computer is an older i7, plenty of memory, ssd.
  9. I have a strange request, and I understand if I do not get a response here. For my PC (running windows 10) setup at home, I use Emby for my at home use, and Plex as my remote access server. Last night the town I live in had a power outage, and when I was able to get my PC back on, everything worked fine, except for Plex. It crashes every time I try to start it, it will show in the tray for a second and then disappear. The only difference in the way I have the 2 setup is I have port forwarding enabled for Plex. I have tried everything I can think of to troubleshoot and solve the problem, such as: -uninstall and reinstall -roll back the version -restart my modem/router -uninstall my antivirus and reinstall without anivirus -disable my firewall -disable port forwarding -uninstall any unused programs -use resource monitor to see if anything is running on the same port -made sure my pc was up to date I have tried everything I can think of and nothing has fixed the problem. I have posted to the Plex forums and haven't received a single response, I never do on their forums. But I've always received help when I've come to these forums, and I was hoping maybe, someone could at least look at my log file (it seems to be the only log file updating whenever I try to start plex) and maybe give me any idea of what the problem is. I understand if I don't get a response or anything here, but I was out of ideas and frustrated with no help coming from the Plex forums. I just want to get my setup running the way it was yesterday before the power went out. Thanks, Nick Plex Media Server.log
  10. Hi, In FreeBSD a lot of people use the concept of jails and they are not necessarily setup to be able to use layer 2 broadcast packets or anything a like. Most jail setups only allow for layer 3 communication with LAN clients through routing of packets. I'm wondering where does Emby use layer 2 for? Device discovery? Does it use layer 2 for anything around google home integration? Anything else I might be misisng? Thanks

    Multiple dockers issue

On the latest versions (3.6+), whenever I have more than one instance of emby running in docker, none of them work properly. The web ui doesn't respond, often takes too long to load and is generally unusable. It's almost like something is interfering between the different instances. As soon as I stop all dockers but one, it works flawlessly. I've made sure that every instance uses a different location for config and different ports. EDIT: I noticed that connect.txt in the data folder has the same value for both docker instances. Note that both docker containers are newly created and I haven't reused any data from one or the other. Could that explain the problem?
  12. I wanted to have my EMBY server show up on a different address to the QNAP server. I went into the server settings and put an address in to override. That address did not show up, however I cannot access emby at the old address either! No other new addresses have shown in DHCP so I am pretty sure I did not just type it wrong, something else is happening. How can I reset this field to zero so the default address is restored? I cannot see where the files are installed or anything else within the OS in the filemanager. I think I'd have to find a way to access using a console to achieve this.

    Error getting network interfaces

Hello, I have emby running on my home NAS and Plex running on my seedbox (Ubuntu Server 16.04). Just bought the lifetime premier and consolidating. Upon installation, I get the same error as these unresolved threads: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/61317-server-is-crashing-in-few-minutes/ https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/45035-systemnetsocketssocketexception-address-already-in-use/ I was getting an additional error related to DLNA conflicts, but it stopped after I shut off DLNA on plex. If I don't have this resolved, emby will not be worth the lifetime pass and I will be looking for a refund (I will most likely get the plex pass instead and install plex on my NAS). Thank you! -mcfloyd
  14. Years ago I remember installing something that allowed me to share my pci tuner to other PC's on my network. For the life of me, I can't find anything that will do this. I could just by a network tuner, but I'm trying to avoid spending any money atm If anyone knows how to do this, please let me know. Thank you!
  15. Hello experts, I'm a KODI user, with Emby for KODI addon installed (LibreELEC / KODI 17). I have an external usb disk, which isn't always plugged, plus it's on a remote computer (another room). If this usb disk is plugged on the remote computer, a script mounts it in LibreELEC as a network cifs share (if unplugged, it's unmounted). But, it seems Emby doesn't detect the changes : - it doesn't appear automatically in library sources if i try to add a new folder (seems normal). - if i try to restart Emby (i did a "systemctl restart service.emby.service"), I notice Emby restarts itself, then i see the mountpoint's path created, but without any subfolders from the share. Folders are accessible in LibreELEC after the mount. How can Emby detect changes in mount points ? Thanks for your assistance. Regards,

    SMB instead of HTTP

so here's my setup: Media Server: shitty computer that runs sonarr, transmission etc. and the HDDs storing all the media are here. SMB server is here! My Main computer: running the emby server Rpi3 with Kodi: uses the emby for kodi add-on. obviously connects to the emby server at 192.168.1.X (emby server IP). No playback issues. But if i try to use smb. it tells me it can't connect to smb://192.168.1.X/path_to_file. Well that's obvious, my main computer doesn't have an SMB server. so in the network settings i add for the ip 192.168.1.Y (media server ip) and the network creds. but when i go to play a video, i get the same error saying "can't connect to smb://192.168.1.X/path_to_file". So i guess my question is: What is the correct way to smb to a different server than the emby server? Or, is that even possible? thanks
  17. After updating EMBY Server to 3.0.8100, I keep losing the connection to WDTV Live after 20-30 seconds. WD initially 'sees' the server, connects successfully and displays the media folders. When I select a movie (or TV show), it plays for a short time (10 seconds or so) & then loses the connection. In fact, even if I just browse through the available movies without actually starting one - the server connection drops & I have to reconnect. I'm running Window 7 home premium (x64), Intel i7-3770K, 16Gb memory. I've tried 3 different firmware versions on the WDTV (and rebooting, powering it off, etc.) - all have the same issue. When I run EMBY Home Theatre on my laptop it works fine with no issues so that rules out a server installation or router problem. I've also checked the firewall logs and even disabled it completely to make sure that the WDTV unit was not being blocked in any way. There are no relevant Windows event logs during the test periods. In short, I've run out of ideas as to what is causing this problem & am hoping that one of you will be able to point me in the right direction. I've attached a serve log covering one of the tests (movie played for about 10-15 seconds before crapping out). I restarted the server before running the test. server-63612044763.txt Thanks - I appreciate any help or suggestions
  18. Hello, I installed Emby server on my Raspberry PI 3 recently (Docker official method). It was a little difficult (linux noob inside ) but now all seems to be OK. But, i'm now trying to add a library, but there's a problem as i can't find any folder or share hosted / mounted on the RPi : (as you can see there's nothing but default paths) (network choice empty too) : How Emby detects disks and network shares ? Here is what i have and would want to choose : 1 usb hdd (ext4) + 1 network share (cifs) : If it must be set in Docker, how can i do it (and would it be kept if Emby image is updated ?) Thanks a lot for your assistance. Best regards,

    Cannot connect on Roku

I cannot connect on Roku it says cannot find server, it wont even give me a pin # what can I do to connect? I'm at the first page when starting Emby and cannot get past there.
  20. There is wrong local network address in the Dashboard, the local address is the the same as the public ip-address. I've attached a screenshot. I would like to have an option to explicitly specify network interfaces to whom Emby should bind. As well as ability to completely disable binding to unnecessary interfaces.
  21. I believe this started when Emby for Fire TV updated in early February. When direct streaming from the server, even when the video's bitrate is low (4000 kbps right now for example), the server is maxing out my network usage according to task manager (using close to 100 Mbps) and causing the video to stutter on the Fire TV. It'll play for a couple seconds, pause for a second, play a couple more seconds, etc.

    Network Shares not found

Emby is not seeing the network shares, when I go to add media it shows the local drives and networking (networking is blank) but if I try to use IP or network name the info is blank, I can access the shares from windows. Details: So I had emby setup and working for about a month or 2, all the media added and accessible, went and finally paid for the lifetime subscription and went to go log in and so some test, when I couldn't see any media, Started troubleshooting, found out that if I tried to add new media or modify the existing, that emby could not see the network essentially. Tried adding drive as mapped networking drive, ensured I could see the network shares, checked permissions for username ( which has full writes to the drives) checked networking settings across the board. I even went as far as to completely wipe it and re-install fresh, and tried it on a different pc and the pc that has the data, still cant see the network path. I work in IT tier2/tier3 so I know my way around and how to troubleshoot, but this issue has me perplexed. Error is "There was an error adding the media path. Please ensure the path is valid and the Emby Server process has access to that location." when adding media to the library.
  23. I apologize a head of time, there have been Window's patches, unRAID version changes, and Emby updates, system restarts so I don't know when these errors started occuring. My movies and music are setup on a separate unRAID server and the shares are setup so that Public can see them. The only users setup on the server are root, test, and mymovies user. I'm running Emby 3.1.2, installed as my main user, on a Windows 10 Home box that is patched at currently levels. Emby is normally setup to run as a service, with it setup to logon as "local system". I've got it setup on a Delayed Start and it seems like only recently I've had problems. I don't have the logs of when the problem started. What I currently see happening is that when the service starts the Library Monitor isn't able to find or see the network path 2017-01-01 10:11:12.1244 Error LibraryMonitor: Error watching path: \\cascade\Movies *** Error Report *** Version: 3.1.2.0 Command line: C:\Users\Josh\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server\System\MediaBrowser.ServerApplication.exe -service Operating system: Microsoft Windows NT 6.2.9200.0 64-Bit OS: True 64-Bit Process: True Processor count: 4 Program data path: C:\Users\Josh\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server Application directory: C:\Users\Josh\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server\System System.ArgumentException: The directory name \\cascade\Movies is invalid. at System.IO.FileSystemWatcher..ctor(String path, String filter) at Emby.Server.Core.IO.LibraryMonitor.<>c__DisplayClass38_0.<StartWatchingPath>b__0() System.ArgumentException at System.IO.FileSystemWatcher..ctor(String path, String filter) at Emby.Server.Core.IO.LibraryMonitor.<>c__DisplayClass38_0.<StartWatchingPath>b__0() When I stop the service, and just run the server from the desktop, it is able to see the directory. 017-01-01 10:24:28.6962 Info LibraryMonitor: Unable to add directory watcher for \\cascade\Movies. 24. Hi, I have my server for Emby running locally on a Fedora 23 machine, ports forwarded and local networking is fine. I can reach the server website from my external IP address from outside my network and everything loads. I have set up the transcoding/streaming bit rate to be low enough to test streaming despite internet quality.. However I cannot access the media outside of my network. Going through the Kodi Logs (on an external network) its apparent that the Kodi installation isn't looking for the media on my server at a different location however its currently looking at "/mnt/data/Videos/.." on the Kodi machine, whilst the actual data is at a location such as 192.192.192.192:/mnt/data/Videos/.. Would i utilise path substitution here? or would that interfere with the transcoding and streaming performance? If i do use PS, how would i go about setting that up? ( i considered FTP or NFS.. but then security question is raised as I'm unsure how you'd have a login for either with the Emby for Kodi add-on). Regards, Jeremy

    New and confused

It seems I have complicated my life but my intention was to keep things simple... What is the best setup for my needs? Background: For years, I've had movies stored on a network share and have been using Serviio Pro (DLNA) for standalone Blu-ray players that do not play all video formats. Serviio also does a fairly decent job of streaming over the Internet via it's built-in web portal. I occasionally utilize this functionality when I'm away. Next, I added a WDTV device because the standalones sometimes freeze and have problems with fast forward and reverse. The WDTV device plays videos directly from the network share and was working great up till the last couple of firmware updates. The stupid device periodically looses track of the network share and cannot find it again unless I reboot my PC's and/or server, depending on which one is designated as the master browser. This is a known issue that will probably never be resolved. Anyway, I replaced the WDTV with an Android TV box because of that issue. I'm loving the Android box (MeMoBOX MX MAX) but it has complicated matters. For example: I can no longer use a single universal remote to control the TV, standalone and streaming box. Now I have to have two separate remotes. I had to purchase a separate air mouse remote with a keyboard to utilize the features of the Android box. I could not find an all-in-one that has air mouse, keyboard and that can be programmed to control the standalone and TV. This one (MX3) comes close and it works very, very well. I just hope it holds up. The Android box came with Kodi so now there's a great deal more menus and more steps involved to navigate to and play videos. More menus and options = confused wife. I don't know what is the most efficient way to set things up. My questions and dilemma: I want robustness and simplicity. I do not want to have a complicated setup that requires administration of redundant services or multiple libraries. I want the flexibility of being able to access a single library from the LAN or WAN and be able to select whether I want to watch a transcoded movie or a direct stream. I do not want to transcode everything. Only when needed. Money is tight so I don't want to purchase Emby Premiere Lifetime unless it's needed or very beneficial. It's just not clear to me if I need Kodi on all PC's, Kodi with Emby add-on, Emby Server, Emby Premiere or Emby at all because Kodi does scraping too. Do I need Kodi on any device or PC to play movies if I install Emby server? If so, does each PC maintain it's own library? In a nutshell, why would I need Emby Premiere? Is Emby Theater a replacement for Kodi on Windows? How does it differ from Kodi? Does it automatically transcode the video or is transcoding a selectable option? If I install Emby Server, do I have to pay for the Android app on each device? If so, is it a one time purchase and does that give me the same functionality as if I purchased Premiere? Do I have to pay a fee for each phone or does the one fee cover all phones on the same google account? I'm most confused about why I need Emby since Kodi scrapes. It appears to me that each product has a different purpose but there is some functionality overlap.
