Hi, so I've been experiencing this whenever I'm playing a video using ASS subtitles that displays "graphics" on-screen in addition to dialogue subtitles. The Shield TV is a pretty powerful device, but could it be that it lacks the power to display subtitles in sync with playback? I've tried using the mobile apk and it's worse there. Could provide logs if needed.

Hi All, Somehow I've lost Subtitles options during playback. I cannot find options to use subtitles that are already downloaded, or to search for subtitles, using the Web client or my TV clients. During web playback, the "..." menu does not have a Subtitle option, nor does the gear menu, nor is there a CC option. It is as if the "subtitle" feature has been turned off. I've tried various library options, checked to make sure English is selected for download, tried storing subtitles with and not with media, rescanned, restarted Emby , etc. Emby version 4.6.7.0 Debian bullseye The log references the Open Subtitles plugin: embyserver.txt:2022-01-20 20:01:00.805 Info App: Loading OpenSubtitles, Version=1.0.28.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null from /var/lib/emby/plugins/OpenSubtitles.dll. Although I think this plugin is not required to use already downloaded subs. (FWIW, I reset my opensubtitles passwords and updated them accordingly in Emby). I do not see any logged errors trying to access subtitles. Any ideas? Thanks!

The ability to change audio/subtitle track for an entire show manually
Weevillo posted a topic in Feature Requests
Before you go ahead and label this a duplicate or suggest that the "set preferred language" option in settings pleases this request, I'm talking about a use-case for a feature such as this for scenarios where language-labeled subtitles doesn't benefit from the already existing preset in settings, i.e if you're watching a foreign media and there's a signs track in English because there's also a dub of the show. Having to change tracks every episode even though technically the correct language is selected but it's still not the right one gets quite tedious. What I'm suggesting is that you add the per-episode menu to the show/season details one more or less-. -
Hello, I'm making this post to request 3 features (mostly for mobile) 1. Set Language for Whole Season Currently, Emby allows users to set their preferred audio/subtitle languages which is very useful. However, many times, animes contain 2 English subtitle tracks. The 1st track is made to overlay Japanese signs & lyrics to complement the English dub, while the 2nd track is full subtitles (dialogue, signs, lyrics, etc). Emby has always chosen the first English subtitle track, as it technically complies with the user's preferences, but I would like a method to choose the specific English track and apply it on the whole season. It is very tedious to set the subtitles for every single episode. I usually use mkvpropedit.exe to change the defaults, but this is tedious as well. Thus, I propose a feature to change the subtitles for the whole season. Something I've observed while using mkvpropedit.exe is that sometimes the track names/ids differ each season. This means that setting the subtitles by series would not be very effective. 2a. Device Rotation (Upside-Down) I would greatly appreciate if upside-down device rotation could be disabled. I usually watch on my bed so holding my phone sideways is detected as upside-down. RPReplay_Final1641208628.mp4 2b. Device Rotation (Portrait Lock) I'd be cool if mobile users were given the option to lock their rotation (while browsing library). For phone users such as I, a portrait lock would be useful (without having to go in phone settings). Tablet users may prefer a landscape lock. Videos already implement a landscape locked Additional Info: Emby Server Version: 4.6.7.0 Emby Server OS: Linux Emby App Version: iOS 2.1.1 Phone: iPhone SE 2nd Generation Software Version: iOS 14.6

Android TV 2.0.48 but Playback thru VLC for Android TV because of HEVC
godbodian posted a topic in Android TV / Fire TV
Okay this is somewhat of two problems together but the initial problem, I've found a viable work around so I don't really care about it as much. First, I use VLC as an external player on my AndroidTV with Emby because the playback on HEVC formatted movies is very inconsistent. I don't know if it's on my end or what (it very well could be) but enabling VLC as an external player makes every video play with the same smoothness. (That's the first "issue". Second, in using the above workaround VLC, regardless of formatting, unless the subtitles are embedded within the video file itself, they are .sub formatted external file or a .srt file labeled properly as "forced", VLC will not see it nor will the subtitles play. In addition, what I believe is happening is Emby is transcoding with the forced subtitles into VLC because although forced allow them to play, it's at the sacrifice of functions like rewind, fast forward and/or any manner of skipping via VLC. With any other video all said features operate correctly. I would love not to have to use VLC and be completely within the app but if not the VLC as the player is perfectly fine and doesn't make that much of difference but with watching movies with alot of subtitles, it does throw off the experience significantly. Thanks for any help you can provide. Emby 4.7.0.17 embyserver.txt- 76 replies

Whenever the 'cover' aspect ratio is selected, the subtitles move along with the video frame as if hardcoded onto the video, but these subtitles aren't hardcoded, they are from a separate srt file. I've tested it on multiple video files too. This behaviour happens around 80% of the time (tested on same file). Sometimes it is fixed by force-restarting the app, but mostly it's not. The emby server version is 4.6.4.0. The app version is 3.2.12. Also, the subtitle drop shadow doesn't match the preview in settings (except uniform) and the background doesn't work.

When playing a video on my iPhone with lots of and/or heavily stylized subtitles, the video + subtitles would lag for a while (but audio still plays). This occurs even when I download the episode. The video runs perfectly fine through VLC (via UPnP) or when I disable the subtitles in Emby. Is there any way to fix this? I've attached an example video + server logs (no ffmpeg) embyserver.txt 04:48:35.777 Extra Info: IPhone SE 2nd Gen iOS 14.6 Emby App 2.0.8 Emby Server 4.6.4.0 slow_subtitles.mp4

Hello! How should I configure server or something other for remembering selected audio/subtitles track? What do I mean: In user 'Playback' settings I checked 'Remember audio track selection' In user 'Subtitles' settings I checked 'Remember subtitles track selection' (preferred subtitles language = English; subtitles mode = 'No subtitles' (I experimented with all available subtitles modes, but nothing helps)) I go to a movie then select audio I need, subtitles I need, then go to home screen and go back to this movie again. And my chooses did not saved (all states look like as I did nothing) At playback time (I start movie playing and select while playback) change these settings does not saved also. Besides, I detect another playback problem: if I trying to change subtitles while movie playing - subtitles does not changed, also if I set it to 'None'. And if I choose subtitles before start playing then Emby for reasons I don't know select 1-st track only (I select 2-nd track but playing 1-st). Is it my wrong or server error?

first ones the video themes. It seems that it plays the actual video instead of playing it in the background example:- Screen_Recording_20210412-033132_Emby.mp4 next ones the subtitles. For some reason, when you initially start a video, the subtitles tend to look very oddly generated but a quick restart of the app fixes it examples initially starting a video (the opening/intro subtitles gets jumbled up too) after a quick restart of the app This ones again with the subtitles. Sometimes, the complex styled subtitles tend to glitch out and never show up (the dialogues do show up after this specific opening) example Screen Recording 20210412-035313 Emby-1.mp4 sample video https://mega.nz/file/wkAwBJSQ#9XZtCTDzdnsxnC0baqmBHfMnn7jVV3ya7wBvNsYyQJY (skip by 10 seconds) I ran all the videos listed above in galaxy s10

Transcoding HEVC with subtitles have some problem, while transcoding HEVC without subtitles are normal.
yukinon244 posted a topic in Web App
Hello, i have a big problem with some movies on my library. this happen for some HEVC mkv videos. in most cases, I can see movies correctly, even if it also transcodes, yet without any problems. for other case, with the subtitile, the movie frequently shows the fanart picture, but from dashboard I can see my cpu has no pressure on transcoding and it has already transcoded for a few seconds more. But after few seconds, it suddenly turn to the fanart picture (just like the loading page) and then show that "No compatible streams are currently available". If I turn off the subtitle, the movies transcodes correctly without problem. One point to note is that when there are no subtitles, it can be transcoded without any problem even if transcoding is required. But when it has to transcode with subtitles, the problem occured. By the way, the problem only occured on the emby website which it must transcode on the server, while on windows client it can be played normally and show the subtitles correctly because it transcodes in native. for example, I recorded the screen to show this complicated situation. https://1drv.ms/v/s!AlY_WtrxBUtlgp9BlwI0cdCRPMe8dg?e=a6dZJp the file are all in .mkv+HEVC format and the ass subtitle. if i disable subtitle, the film transcodes and plays correctly. If there isn't enough infomation, please tell me what I should do to provide it for you. what is the cause of this problem? how can i solve? thank you very much! -

Is there a way (programm, script etc.) to batch check and convert if neccessary the format of my subtitles to avoid transcoding? The thing is that for my 10k+ episodes I have external subtitles, all saved as .srt files BUT in some cases they are MicroDVD {2215}{2291}text or .mpl subtitles [171][210]text just with .srt extension so they cannot be played and are not displayed with i.e. Android TV app. How can I batch convert them without checking one after the other?

Hi, How I can disable adding country code subtitle filename? So instead of MovieName.pl.srt Emby will download MovieName.srt file?

Hello. Some time ago a new update for Emby Android App appeared on Play Store and there was mention (changelog) of a new internal player library being used (ExoPlayer?). From that version forward (tested all updates released after) I am unable to see subtitles on an external screen. I have Samsung Galaxy S10e with USB-C->HDMI cable and I am using it occasionally for watching movies on an external screen (TV/monitor) using Emby App. I am using this "method" for a few years, never had any issue, subtitles were shown on the external screen as expected. But currently, I see a movie on an external screen and subtitles on phones display, which is useless. When setting "use external player" in Emby App and using, for example, VLC, everything is fine with video and subtitles on external screen, but that is a rather ugly workaround with its own issues. I have downgraded to pre-ExoPlayer version of Emby App for now and everything is working well again, but I don't want to be stuck on the old version forever. Could this use-case be fixed, please? I can provide any further information or testing if necessary. Thanks

External subtitles naming convention for Hearing-impaired/CC/SDH
morpheus65535 posted a topic in General/Windows
This post is probably intended mainly for @Luke but I will appreciate comment/upvote or anything else that would benefit the discussion I'm the dev behind Bazarr and currently having discussion with the devs teams of major media servers/players (eg: Plex, Jellyfin) and I would like to bring Emby to the discussion table to get all the major teams to adopt a mutual standard regarding those subtitles. So, would it be possible in Emby to interpret correctly the language name for subtitles filename that would look like this? Film.en.hi.srt Film.en.cc.srt Film.en.sdh.srt They should be detected as English subtitles and it would be nice to see a custom tag to make the user aware of the hi/cc/sdh content. Thanks for joining the discussion. I hope will reach a consensus for that standard! -
From browser Bangla subtitle working fine, but in Emby android app it's not working. I think this is Bangla font issue from Emby Android app. How can i solve it? I added two screenshots from Browser and Emby Android so that anyone can understand the problem. Thanks in advance.

Feature Request Permit subtitle backgrounds for better visibility. It would be good to allow subtitle backgrounds with variable opacity so that the sub text can overlay any existing text. There might be issues where the subtitle is in the same color as the background that might cause viewing issues. I understand that you can change the text color, but this is inconvenient to change the subtitle color to avoid the issue. Let's say I'm watching a video with white hardsubs, and it conflicts with my external subs. Having sub backgrounds would permit a more enjoyable viewing experience and prevent the need to change the color. Example Netflix has a subtitle appearance that permits subtitle backgrounds.

Hi guys, Season 1 local subs played ok, some out of sync. Was able to search more using the native downloader. All sub options ok. The other seasons are missing local subs. Strangely I can't locate a single one using the downloader. So I downloaded my own. I have restarted the server and scanned library as well as restarting the app. Subtitles obviously enabled in settings. But I have no options in the settings cog from player. There's no sub drop down like there usually is at the playing media screen. And the newly added subs aren't automatically playing. Images attached. Your help is appreciated.

Is it possible to have more control over how the subtitle appears? Stuff like border size, drop shadow size, custom color, etc? Thanks.

Hello, I have been having an issue with subtitles for certain films when streaming to an older Chromecast and am having a hard time pinning down the cause of this, so was wondering if anybody else is having this issue. While I have found various posts about this issue in the recent past, I have not found anything to explain and/or resolve the issue. Details: This occurs while streaming from Windows or Linux machine, so I do not think it is a problem that is related to the install or the OS. The subtitles do show when playing through a browser, on an Android phone, or streaming to a Roku streaming stick, so it seems to be a "Chromecast-only" issue. When streaming to the Chromecast, the subtitles will momentarily appear when the video is started, but disappear after about 0.5 seconds. This problem "seems" independent of file type/format (although I doubt this is the case). I am currently running Emby Server 4.4.3.0 (Win10/Linux Mint 19.3). I think have tried almost every combination of configuration adjustments over the past two weeks in order to resolve this, but so far have had no success. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Update 1 (21.09.2020): I installed Jellyfin last night and it has no issues showing subtitles when streaming to the Chromecast, so this seems to be an Emby issue.

Hi guys, Loving the work you’ve done. Is there any update on the discussion around the subtitle delay setting? My subs are fine, they play correctly in VLC locally. But when I cast to my tv, all subs play ahead of audio by 4 or 5 seconds. If anyone has any input that’d be appreciated too. But yeah keen to hear what’s happening with the prospect of subtitle delay settings. Thanks.

I have a file that displays Subtitles ONLY on the Emby Server/Player on my Windows 10 computer. The Subtitles will NOT show up when playing the video on VLC, Quicktime, an Emby client app, or using my Mackbook Pro as a server. Why will the Subtitles only display on the Emby Server/Player, and NOT on anything else?

Bello, I've noticed in the latest beta update that subs that used to be the perfect size and "styling" now looks smaller and different in terms of font, and the text is so small that its basically unusable, I've tested this with several shows with ASS subtitles and have compared the beta and non beta apps and there definitely is a big difference, if required I can upload some example screenshots showing the difference in font.
