Set Server to ONLY manual update, but installed latest version nevertheless
One2Go posted a topic in General/Windows
I unticked in the server settings the box to automatically update. The server was not used fort one month, started up the HTPC and version 3.2.24.0 loaded. Updated the Anti Virus software which required a restart. Now server version 3.2.27.0 loaded. I like to leave my present running version a bit longer until no further complications have been reported. How can I change the settings that this will not happen again. I thought I did everything correct so as to control the updates, what is needed in addition. O2G -
I'm going to be going away without internet access next month, so I thought I'd try out the sync feature on my Windows tablet (proper Windows 10, not RT) and get a few tv shows and movies synced to it in lower quality (to save space on the small 32gb MicroSD card) than I could get by just copying the files directly. Plus, I'd rather use an Emby GUI as an interface while watching media. I've tried both "Sync" and "Download" in the dashboard web app, Emby Theater, and Ember; all with the same problems: Titles seem to get stuck on either queued, or ready to transfer. I've removed and restarted them multiple times, to no avail. the few times I had a notification telling me something completed downloading, when I went offline on my tablet, the files either weren't there, or wouldn't play (black screen). I've tried setting the sync/download folders to my tablets internal storage, as well as an external MicroSD card (preferable, as I don't have much internal storage). Also, I'm a little confused as to the difference between "Sync" and "Download". Which would be preferable in my case, where I'd like to conserve disk space for offline viewing? I don't care which app I use, whether it's Emby Theater, or Ember; as long as I can get it working by next month. Let me know if there's any more information that might help. I've removed all of my sync jobs, so I can start from a clean slate; hopefully with some guidance. Thanks, Patrick

Hello everybody! Since a long time ago I wanted to share my server setup in this awesome forum, sorry for my english in advance . In my university residence some years ago everybody was constantly asking for external HDD's to share movies and tv shows, so one day I wondered what could I do to make this sharing simpler. After using Plex for several years I switched to Emby cause Plex added a 100 users limit share and we were +-120 users. I rented a SoYouStart Opteron Server with 6Tb of storage in order to make Emby accesible outside the residence's LAN. Everything was perfect but we were (all the users) paying 45€ a month for the server, in addition I hadn't control of the hardware and if I wanted to change something or add more disk space was impossible. So with the installation of 300/300 fiber in my house, I decided to setup a home server and migrate all the stuff from the cloud server to my home server. That way we'll only have to pay for the electricity and the initial hardware cost. So, went to amazon and started looking for a nice budget setup for my server, the key of the purchase was the energy saving. The home server specs are the following: - Intel i5-6600 Processor - Asus B150M-A Motherboard - 2x4Tb HGST Desktar NAS HDD's (installed in Software RAID 0), for storing the media files - Kingston SSDNow V300 120Gb for the OS and Emby metadata, etc. - 16 Gb DDR4 HyperX Fury Kingston RAM - Corsair Series CX430 PSU The system is running under Ubuntu 16.04 after trying to do it under Debian 8.5, but the system due to the recent processor and the Linux Kernel in Debian 8.5 (I suppose) wasn't very stable with Emby. In order to do the migration transparently for the users I downloaded all my library (1300 SD Movies, 500 1080p 5Mbps Movies and 130 SD TV Shows) from the cloud server to my 8Tb /home partition in RAID 0, after this I installed and configured Emby and letting it scan the library and download all the metadata (notice that I didn't back up the library from the cloud server, just the users and their play status). With this completed, I configured my TP-Link wr1043nd router with OpenWRT installed to forward the necessary ports to the server, and setted up a dynamic DNS with NOIP as my ISP IP is dynamic. Everything almost ready, users backed up in the cloud server and restored in the home server I switch my Domain to point to my home ddns instead of the cloud server and watch the users loging in. Everything was fine and nobody noticed the change (correction, somebody had dns issues but after erasing history and cookies in their browser the problem was solved). The average number of users connected at the same time is 5-10, with 20-30 in peak hours (siesta time 3-4pm, after dinner 11pm, before luch 1-2pm, you know spanish regime ), almost everybody uses the server through the Web interface (some tablets or chromecast but it's 5-10% of the users) so what I do to deal with transcoding, or better said, how do I do to AVOID transcoding without losing quality. It's very simple, the solution was to convert all the media to h264/AAC/mp4 with a daily script which executes ffmpeg at 2am, looks for .avi or .mkv files and converts them to h264/AAC/mp4. The script is veeeery veeery simple (i'm not a scripting or programming boss) and this is the conversions it does: (quality/video_codec/audio_codec/file_extension) Input --> Process --> Output ------------------------------------ - Movies and episodes in sd/mpeg/mp3-AC3/avi: sd/mpeg/mp3/avi --> x264 CRF 20, audio_bitrate aac 128kbps, web_optimized --> sd/h264/aac/mp4 -Movies in sd/h264/DTS-AC3/mkv sd/h264/DTS-AC3/mkv --> video stream copy, audio_bitrate aac 128kbps, web_optimized --> sd/h264/aac/mp4 -Movies in hd/h264/DTS-AC3/mkv with video bitrate around 5mbps hd/h264/DTS-AC3/mkv --> video stream copy, audio_bitrate aac 192kbps, web_optimized --> hd/h264/aac/mp4 For movies with bitrate over 5mbps I use another script to do a 2-pass conversion cause it takes time for each file. In addition the scripts removes all subtitles and conserves only one audio track in spanish. The question now is, why I do this? Well mainly because all my users don't care about DTS, surround or having a 20mbps full hd bluray. The only thing they want is that the movie plays well, fast, and good quality if possible, so this is a way of optimizing resources and disk space. The SSD gives an amazing speed charging the menus and all the web frontend I really recommend it, the server is now running perfectly and growing little by little. Oh! important, I have one directory for SD movies and another for HD movies, and for TV shows the structure is like this --> /home/shows/show_name/season/episodexx.avi Hope you like it! and if you have questions I'll be pleased to answer them. (converting script attached and modified for understanding, the script is named wololo , if you played Age of Empires you should know why ). wololo.txt

Hi everyone, Currently using Version 3.2.26.0 (had to revert back from Beta's that were doing weird stuff with rendering the dashboard) Not sure if anyone else has had this by Emby seem to no longer be interested in reading my MetaBrowser .xml files that are in my Movie and TV directories, I reckon one of the last Beta's may have had a funny turn but I have some content that was all fine before but now no longer have any details and because they are not on IMDB etc... there's no online content to pick up. Is Emby no longer reading xml's by design? Do I need to switch to .nfo's or do I need to take some drastic action with the database? Any help muchly appreciated. Andy.

Hi All, My system SSD failed on me so I have had to re install everything. I tried to use configuration backup but that is having issues so I completely removed Emby, created the Emby-Server folder in appdata/roaming and did it the old fashioned way by just copying the latest backup, but this hasn't restored anything, no users, no playlists, no libraries etc. All of my shares are exactly the same name. Any help? Windows 10 Latest beta Emby release

I am a new Emby user ... I have been using Next PVR with Kodi for almost a year now, but I was looking for something a bit more reliable and "wife" approved. My particular interest is for PVR use, and I have 3 Silicon Dust HDHomerun tuners I use. I have a Prime that is connected to Comcast, and for OTA I have the Connect and the Extend, a total of 4 OTA and 3 Cable tuners. I tested Plex for about 3 weeks, but I wasn't all that impressed with their PVR features, since it is only in beta for now. So I started looking at Emby. Reviews were very good, so I decided to give it a try. I installed an Emby Server on a machine that has Windows 7 Professional, Intel Core i5 3.2Ghz, 4GB memory and a 1TB hard drive. Setup was pretty easy. I played with it for a couple of days and was so impressed that I signed up for Emby Premier so I could test the DVR and live TV. I added my tuners and used Schedules Direct (I already have an account with them for my Next PVR server) for my program listings. I played with the live tv on several devices, including Android tables, Android TV boxes and and Apple iPad. I also scheduled some recordings, both one time and series. Everything worked very well. So I stopped all my recordings on my Next PVR server and transfered them over to Emby. Everything looked to be going great! I had finally found the perfect PVR/Media Server! However, this weekend it all fell apart. I'm an avid Nascar fan, so I had set up a recording for the race this past Sunday. I also began watching the race live on my main TV, being broadcast on my local OTA station. My main TV has an Android TV box hooked up to it, so I used the Emby app to tune to my local station. The Emby app launches MX player to play the channel. All went well for about 30 minutes. Then the picture froze. Hmmm. Cheap Android box, I thought. So I rebooted it and went back into the Emby app, but it couldn't communicate with the server. So I go over to the server and it's SUPER SLOW, and the hard drive light is solid green. I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and after about a minute the task manager was up and I see the Emby server is using almost 3.7GB! So the hard drive light being on was poor Windows trying to swap in virtual memory to take up the slack, which slowed the machine down to a crawl. So I rebooted the server. Back to normal. Server is using around 330MB. Restart the recording, restart the live TV. Same thing happens in about 20 minutes. Rebooted and tried it again. Same thing. Gave up and watched the race on my TV's tuner. So today I stick another 4GB of ram in the server, for a total of 8GB. That should make Emby happy, I thought. So I ran a test. I opened up a live TV channel (OTA, HD, 1080p) on my Android TV box. I looked at the memory usage of the server and it's around 350MB. So far so good. After a while I see the server's memory usage is going up. WAY UP. I watched it over a period of time, and after an hour the server usage was 7.5GB!! What is going on????? So I shut down the stream and watched the server's memory usage and it went down to 7.4GB and that's it. Of course, the server is dead slow right now. I assume the only way to get the memory usage back down is to reboot the Emby server. So, should I consider this normal???? What the heck is Emby doing with all that memory during a live stream? The CPU use during the stream is only about 4%, so the machine is not being strained at all. I certainly hope this is a bug, because if it isn't then Emby as a PVR is a bust, for me at least. I can't figure out why a live stream would cause the Emby server to require so much internal memory. Is it attempting to buffer the stream internally? I guess I was spoiled with Next PVR, it barely uses 150MB during it's operation. Using the current version of Emby (3.2.26.0). Thanks, Chuck

Hi! It will be nice if we could see the nomber of the episod (ex: S01E02) with or instead of the episod name in the device activities. What do you think!?

Server - Premiere Task for active recordings convert in dashboard
BAS posted a topic in Feature Requests
@@Luke Hello. Besides the live tv area to find active recordings as an admin mostly on my server I would really like it if the active recordings would be displayed while they are happening. Letting the admin know what tuners are in use easily by Emby, This situation is two fold if your a premiere user, as I take advantage of the awesome convert to stream friendly format feature. Not only would this alert me if the tuners are in use, but that also ffmpeg processes are currently running to convert these recordings. I'm in the dashboard a lot, so I prefer I could see these type things when I'm there. If I missed a post, I apologize, I did try to search. Thanks for your input.- 4 replies

After updating EMBY Server to 3.0.8100, I keep losing the connection to WDTV Live after 20-30 seconds. WD initially 'sees' the server, connects successfully and displays the media folders. When I select a movie (or TV show), it plays for a short time (10 seconds or so) & then loses the connection. In fact, even if I just browse through the available movies without actually starting one - the server connection drops & I have to reconnect. I'm running Window 7 home premium (x64), Intel i7-3770K, 16Gb memory. I've tried 3 different firmware versions on the WDTV (and rebooting, powering it off, etc.) - all have the same issue. When I run EMBY Home Theatre on my laptop it works fine with no issues so that rules out a server installation or router problem. I've also checked the firewall logs and even disabled it completely to make sure that the WDTV unit was not being blocked in any way. There are no relevant Windows event logs during the test periods. In short, I've run out of ideas as to what is causing this problem & am hoping that one of you will be able to point me in the right direction. I've attached a serve log covering one of the tests (movie played for about 10-15 seconds before crapping out). I restarted the server before running the test. server-63612044763.txt Thanks - I appreciate any help or suggestions

I've noticed that recently Emby has started to crash if I'm selecting somewhat rapidly between movies in my library. I'm running Emby on Ubuntu Server 16.04 FYI - ASUS mobo w/ i7-6700k Edit: From looking at other posts, it looks like mono sometimes affects stuff like this, but it looks like I'm running 4.6.2.7 which is not a version that folks have said causes problems. Checking the mono-project website I see 4.6.2.16 is released though, so my next step will be trying to update that. $ mono --version Mono JIT compiler version 4.6.2 (Stable 4.6.2.7/08fd525 Mon Nov 28 20:49:26 UTC 2016)

Out of Space - Need a New Server and Looking for Build Ideas
WhiteGuyTranslating posted a topic in Hardware
So, 6 years later, I need a new server. I am officially out of space. I've lost 2 HDD's, almost corrupted an array, and reformatted my OS twice (mainly due to jumping on the SSD bandwagon a little too early and, I suspect, a little too cheaply. My family's collection of 161 BluRay's, 830+ DVD's, and 44 TV series (that include long runners like Cheers, Frasier, and The Simpsons) has pushed me to the 13TB mark and the max of my current set up. I have been with Emby as one very loyal member, but as inept as they come when technology is concerned. Like a good drug though, I can't stay away. I admit - I thoroughly enjoyed having a better than NetFlix experience before there was NetFlix. The jealousy of my dinner guests was a delicious aperitif to an evening of fine dining as we watched our favorite flicks. I am, now, at a crossroads. I see the bevy of technology in front of my and I salivate over the prospects. What server should I use and what hardware to accompany it? A back story of my hardware: 1 x LSI MegaRAID SATA/SAS 8708EM2 3Gb/s PCI-Express w/ 256MB onboard memory RAID Controller Card, Kit 1 x AMD Phenom II X2 550 Callisto Dual-Core 3.1 GHz Socket AM3 80W HDX550WFGMBOX Desktop Processor 8 x Hitachi GST Deskstar 7K2000 HDS722020ALA330 (0F10311) 2TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive ... I have more parts to the machine, obviously, but I feel these are the main players and give anyone who has build a rig themselves a good idea of what I have to work with. The thing is, I am really not interested in keeping any of it. Here's my thought: I've gotten more use out of these parts that, except for the hard drives, were all bought 6 years ago. I've never kept a computer fully intact for more than 3 years in my life. And the system still performs admirably. I am torn at the possibility of going to a NAS set up or staying with my tried and true set up of Windows. The lynch pin for my Windows set up is the LSI raid card. It COULD save me if my motherboard dies, as I would just have to transfer the card to another server, with discs attached, and I am up and running again. That said, I wonder if there are better options out there. See, when I started with Emby, transcoding wasn't really a thing. Now that streaming is built in with Emby, I am noticing FFMpeg chewing up my resources like no tomorrow. My poor 6 year old processor is struggling and, for the first time ever, I actually get stuttering in movies when I play two at the same time. I figure I have two options: just migrate to a beefier, modern processor with more than two cores or try to trace down the issue. Again, not good with the computers but I can open a wallet like a damn savant. Since I am also running out of storage, this seems to be where I am stuck. Getting back to the meat of my thread (long), I am looking for build ideas from those of you in the community. I am hoping that one or two of you have similar usage patterns to me and I might be able to copy your system, if it works great for you. For instance, my server resides in my office with my work/play computer. I can open the well ventilated cabinet, pop out the disc tray, load a movie, and remote desktop into it (it's running Win7 Ultimate). I can watch from the upstairs or downstairs TV via Window 7 Media Center, with emby for MC installed. I also enjoy live TV via a HDHomeRun Prime, for cable. I have a couple wireless devices but everything else is hard wired on a commercial grade network (it was my big splurge when we moved into our first home a few years ago). Also, I picked up a Roku 2, and I am pleasant surprised with it's performance, for such a little and inexpensive thing (by comparison to the two computers running Win 7 MC). I've also used an Xbox 360 in the past but it sounds like a weed eater being tossed into a wood chipper during a wild weekend at Sturgis - all the while on fire. So, what are your thoughts? I am sitting on 13TB of data, money is not really a concern but I don't necessarily want to throw it away. Let's face it, Netflix and other streaming services are out there so I can't get too ridiculous.- 11 replies

Hi I could do with some help on this as I'm confused. Installed Open Media Vault version 3 on my NAS, then installed the docker plugin and downloaded the Emby image and set up some shares to the media library. Emby starts fine, can scrap the media and the UI is super responsive however it won't play anything - tried via the web app / dlna and xbox one app - which is confusing as I've had all the working before and I believe I've set things up the same way and everything worked fine. Attached the docker and server logs. The server is using MergeFS with all libraries owned by root / user and set to 777, Docker is in Host mode with the /config folder sitting on a SSD again controlled by a OMV Share. I'm controlling the docker image via the OMV plugin UI Not sure what i'm missing. Hope some can shed some light on what I'm doing / have done wrong. Kentish DockerLog.txt EmbyServerLog.txt

Hey - apologies if this comes across as a noob post or whatever, I've recently been introduced to Emby and I am absolutely amazed with it, it's absolutely fantastic, so good that I've decided to host my own Emby server. I'm looking at spending anywhere from £300-500 (although this can be pushed up slightly if need be) for my build. I've considered these things currently: Mac Mini (16GB Ram, i5 Processor, 240GB SSD) HPe Proliant ML10 Gen9 HPE ProLiant Gen8 G1610T 819185-421 (4GB RAM) MicroServer Storage won't be a problem as I'll have a 8TB NAS to start with. My requirements so far are: Steam to 3 devices in the same household. (Will most likely be 3 at the max, but maybe potential for 4-5) Be able to stream remotely to 1-2 people (If I'm at my girlfriends house or travelling for work) Do either of the 3 I've posted look like they could do what I require? Or do any of you kind folk know a better build that will give me more bang for my buck? I'm not opposed to building the server myself out of parts, just trying to get some knowledge here. Many thanks

Hi, I've tried to follow all the guides out there to add a certificate to my Emby server, unfortunately without success. Today I'm running my Emby server on Ubuntu 17.04. I own my own domain but I already use the main domain for another server that I has as a webserver. So I would like to have a sub-domain for my Emby, so I have created an address that looks like this: emby.domain.com I have managed to use free certificates on my web server via Certbot, but when I try to do the same way on my Emby server with my sub-domain I get some authentication error message. So I would really appreciate if someone would give me some really good instructions on how to install a certificate on my Emby-server. Have tried this already: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/44757-setting-up-ssl-for-emby-wip/

As the title suggests, I have been unable to restore my server settings from the same computer (had to do a system wipe). I used to the backup plugin and kept it safe on a separate drive. But after I reinstalled Windows 10 and installed emby server v3.2.19.2 beta and installed the plugin again. Found the save states, I click on the only save state and it says "This restore operation will overwrite key system files and user information." so I click yes. Then nothing happens, it just shows the plugin page. I have tried the same process using Edge, Chrome and Firefox and they all do the same thing. I have attached a log of when I tried to restore. My specs are AMD A10-5700 APU 8gb Ram Geforce GTX 760 Windows 10 Pro

When I invite someone to my server and they link their emby connect account the password from their emby connect isn't the same as the one on the server. In fact, if they set no password on the server ANYONE can log into their account without any password and access all media on the server! Is this expected behavior? Seems completely insane to me! Why do I have to set passwords for users who already have passwords for their emby connect accounts? Is there a way to disable login without access to their emby connect account?

I was wondering if anyone can help me with this issue. My Emby server will be working flawlessly and then for no apparent reason the server just shuts down. I have been experiencing this for the past 4 days. Any help would do. I am attaching some of my log files as well and see if that can clarify anything. I get alot of this too...
