  1. EDIT: Never mind, I figured it out I think. I put a bunch of videos of demo scene productions in a folder for testing Emby, and they were wrongly identified as movies. Can I remove all the metadata from them at once? Is it possible to only show filenames for the contents of a library for cases like this were the metadata is known to be almost certainly wrong? Thanks.

    People metadata

Although I'm using Emby on unRAID, this is likely a general question. Where is the data associated with people stored in Emby and not just the images?
  3. boxtor

    Actors incorrectly matched

I have automatic download of metadata and images turned off for the library. When I add an actor that consists of a single name such as "Daisy", it will automatically match it to a (wrong) full name. Sometimes it adds a IMDB or TMDB ID as well. I cannot unmatch the actor. It's automatically renamed and any item I had the actor assigned to has the link removed. I cannot add a new actor of the old unmatched name either. Most of the times I can't remove the IMDB or TMDB IDs either. I create new actors by adding the name to TV episodes or seasons. A blank actor is created as expected. However, it's not expected that it would be automatically matched to something. This is problematic since there is no way to go through the library and remove old actors. It would be nice if the metadata manager would also manage actors.
  4. boxtor

    Actor becomes unusable

If you manually enter an actor and inadvertently have leading white space (spaces or new lines, usually when manually copy and pasting a name), it will be added, but will not be linkable to a TV season or episode. However, if you add a corrected version without the white space, is disappears as well and is not usable. I've worked around it by adding additional text such as parenthesis, but that causes usability problems for me. "The Actor" becomes "The Actor (2)". I don't know if the original actor still exists. I have tried to delete the original actor poster from the file system, but that did not help. A similar problem happens when I rename an existing actor. If I change "The Actor (2" to "The Actor (2)".
  5. This occurs during a library scan for a TV show season. If there is an existing season.nfo (it's provided to Emby, Emby did not create it from scratch), Emby will not add missing elements. For example, if the season poster is present (image file is present), but not listed in the season.nfo, it will not be added and the poster will need to be added manually through the web interface. Also, if the seasonnumber element will not be added if it is not present. The season number needs to be added via the web interface as well. I would have expected that the library scan would have added missing elements to the season.nfo since 'Save artwork and metadata into media folders' is checked for the library.
  6. The Short Overview section used to exist in the metadata manager, however, after reading https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/44536-short-overview-section-missing-in-metadata-manager/ it appears that it has been removed as ' Emby does not make any use of this information, therefore it's being removed from the editor. In the future if we start using it, then it can return'. However, Kodi makes use of this information, so it impacts lots of people who use Emby-for-Kodi. The Short Overview used to contain the plot outline from imdb, and the 'overview' would give the longer description of the plot. This full Overview often contains spoilers as well. Now the full Overview is what we see for each film we add, which is really annoying. Please bring back Short Overview.
  7. New guy question. Everything seems to be working FreeNAS-11.0-U2 (e417d8aa5) and emby-3.2.26.0-amd64. But I don't understand what the Emby Dashboard info is telling me. When I selected the the folders for Emby I used a media folder I had made and the jail that the Emby plugin made. The storage folders show as /mnt/FNAS/Media/Movies which is a folder I made and /media/Movies which is in the emby_1 jail. However, when I look to see where the metadata is being stored using the Server Dashboard it shows /var/db/emby-server/root/default/Movies Now I cannot find that folder anywhere on the FreeNAS server. Everything is setup to the defaults. So is the server actually able to access the metadata with that designation? Is the data being saved? Or is this just pointing nowhere? Extra Question: I know I should do a different post. If the answer is long I will do so. Just let me know. If I need to reinstall FreeNAS can I get emby to reuse the jail that already exists or must I allow it to use a new jail.
  8. Hello I've just noticed that movies I am adding to my library are not downloading any metadata. I have the option checked to store the metadata with the media file itself but that option has actually not worked for a while (but metadata was still downloading). Recently my c: drive was completely full and I suspect that may have played a role in preventing any meta from downloading but I have cleared some space and now even if I scan for new files or manually refresh metadata nothing happens. I also chose another location for the cache but that did not seem to resolve it. I'm actually not sure where the metadata is stored on the computer. I would like to move it all to another drive to free up more space. I am not sure which files in AppData\Roaming would need to be moved though. I am running Emby server Version 3.2.26.0 on Windows 7 Pro x64. C:drive is a 240GB SSD that has less than a GB of free space currently. I am assuming that the caches and metadata are taking up all the space because no media is stored on this drive. Any thoughts on a fix for this? Thanks

    Metadata Savers Option

Emby no longer reads metadata from a xml file? Only nfo files can be used now? This has changed sometime in the last month I think. If you go to Server Manager > Library > Metadata and locate Metadata Savers option, only nfo is available now? This is no good, where did the xml option go? The main reason I choose to go with xml is Media Center Master creates the metadata in xml. I like that because I can manipulate the synopsis for example: "Former cop Brian O'Conner is called upon to bust a dangerous criminal and he recruits the help of a former Miami street racer who has a chance to redeem himself. Parental Rating Summary: MPAA Rating: PG-13 Sex & Nudity: 12 Violence & Gore: 25 Profanity: 1 mouthed and 1 muffled F-word, 2 obscene hand gestures, 3 sexual terms, 38 scatological terms, 24 anatomical terms, 30 mild obscenities, 1 religious profanity, 1 religious exclamation Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking: 1 Frightening/Intense Scenes: 2" as opposed to the overlong: "Florida street racer Tej (Ludacris) is looking for a driver and calls Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) to a race. Brian is an ex-cop who has the hottest car now. He races against Suki (Devon Aoki), Orange Julius (Amaury Nolasco) and Slap Jack (Michael Ealy) and wins. The police arrive and give chase, capturing Brian. Agent Markham (James Remar) and... ON AND ON AND ON FILLING UP MY SCREEN" Can this be fixed or put back the way it used to be please? Please allow xml metadata files to be read or allow us to choose the type of synopsis is displayed.
  10. Sorry i know this has been answered before. I searched the forums and found users with the same problem, but i dont know if i should bring back an old post or make a new one. Same problem: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/43502-emby-generating-artistnfo-on-emby-servermetadataartists-instead-of-artist-folder-and-not-fetching-artist-bio/ Artists/albuns added some time ago are good, every .nfo is in the correct folder and everything is ok for these in the metadata manager and music catalog. For recent added artists emby generates an artist.nfo under \Emby-Server\metadata\artists and the genre tag is missing when i check in the metadata manager. This is anoying specially when browsing a genre, these newly added artist wont show up. The option 'Save artwork and metadata into media folders' is ticked. When i move the .nfo manually to the artist folder seems to work, the artists pop under the genre in the music catalog. Im using version 3.2.17.0 Thanks in advance
  11. I'd really like to see an option to use the modification time stamp over the creation time stamp, when evaluating the date added. At lease for music files. See also this discussions: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/39666-latest-media-sort/page-1 https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/26485-file-created-date-vs-file-modified-date/
  12. i setup Emby with defaults, and according to the Wiki, to store metadata on the (fast SSD) applications drive, not the RAID media drive. (This is also general consensus I've seen at AVS.) “Installation · MediaBrowser/Wiki Wiki · GitHub” https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Installation But I've seen recommendations here to store metadata and artwork in the media folders. What's the current thinking? If it's better to store with the media folders, can this be made the installation default? And the Wiki updated accordingly? And a handy new feature would be to migrate metadata and art to media folders if the server setting is changed. This would accommodate those of us wanting to move to the newly recommended setup (assuming it is).
  13. When I add new content to my music library and scan, it seems album fanart (cdart.png and sometimes folder.jpg) gets downloaded instantly, as it shows up in the corresponding album library folder with no additional action on my part. Artist fanart does not seem to work the same way, as nothing is downloaded to the user-set metadata folder after the library scan. However, once I go into the web player and select an artist, all relevant artwork is downloaded to the metadata folder. Usually I see the banner, folder, and logo pop up right away, and then the extrafanart folder gradually fills up with images (I set the limit pretty high, so this part often takes a while). Is my best bet to just select each artist in the web player one by one, and wait for all images to download, after my full library completes scanning? Or is there some setting to initiate the artist fanart downloads automatically?

    TV show identify/metadata trouble

I have trying to add a folder (set as media type TV) containing a TV series to Emby library, but am having some trouble getting it to identify the series and its episodes and pulling the meta data. I have done a few other series and the "Identify" feature worked fine, however, that option is not showing up when i add this folder. The episodes will only show under the " Latest" tab and does not populate any of the shows info or structure like it has with other series. When i go in to metadata manager and select the folder level, the External IDs section has no options to add anything. Each ep file does heve those fields open, and i paste the IMDB and/or TVdb ids int ot them, but nothing else changes? Am i doing something wrong? IMDB id: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3793630/ TVdb: http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=282756&lid=7
  15. Hello everyone. I'm running the latest Emby Server (3.1.5.0) on a Windows 10 tower, and everything has been working great for a long time, but I am now seeing a familiar issue with the Metadata Manager. The "Short Overview" section is gone. I can add, delete, or edit the "Overview" section just fine, but there is no "Short Overview" section at all. I have a screen shot attached, FYI. I tried to "edit info" on several movies through the library, but the same issue was there as well. I've re-scanned the library, cleaned the db, restarted the server, even re-booted the computer, but the section remains AWOL. I have seen this before after a new release, but it usually goes away after the next patch release. Any thoughts?
  16. Hi guys, I've got an issue with my meta data. I've added a load of new TV shows and it is not pulling the images or making the screen grabs. The last time it happened it was an extension in chrome blocking the images from loading on the External ID's but I've checked them for all the TV shows i'm having issues with and they are all there. Take the screenshot I've attached for example it's done them for a couple but not all of them, some TV shows it's not done any for. Please help, I've also attached the LOG file in case anyone needs it to determine what is going wrong. Log.txt
  17. When one has Emby configured to store data in NFO files adjacent to their associated videos, and you then designate certain metadata fields to be "Locked" a XML field of <lockedfields> is added to the NFO file, containing a "|" delimited list of the metadata fields to be locked from editing. In my prior experiments I found that if I added this field to an existing NFO file (ie, one that Emby has already added data to) then Emby would read the NFO and lock the corresponding fields. I mistakenly thought then that I could add this XML field to my externally generated NFO files as part of my migration from a different media management system (my custom-built one). My hope was that Emby would take in the data from my NFO, and then subsequently lock the appropriate fields from further editing. However, <lockedfields> is being completely ignored on import, resulting in no fields being locked (though the other data, such as Tags, is correctly imported). The following is an example of the NFO file data that I'm generating: <movie><sorttitle>Voice Behind the Mouse</sorttitle><plot>Leonard Maltin interviews Wayne Allwine and Russi Taylor, the voice of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. They talk about the characteristics of Mickey and Minnie that they see in themselves. They compare how Mickey's voice changed over the years, even within Walt Disney's run of doing the voice. Allwine and Taylor consider how Walt would probably embrace new technologies of today. Allwine does most of the talking, sharing anecdotes and touching on a wide array of other subjects related to Disney animation. Taylor, his real life wife, recalls how she prepared for her Minnie audition. The feature includes some clips of "Runaway Brain", older shorts, "House of Mouse", and even the costumed Mickey Mouse at Disney's parks, as well. It's a great supplement - both very informative and entertaining.</plot><lockedfields>Overview|Tags</lockedfields><tag>Shorts</tag><tag>Disney</tag><tag>Mickey Mouse</tag><tag/></movie> http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0408316/ Please pardon the formatting -- it seemed best to present it exactly as I'm generating it from my other program. Thanks! PS - If this is something you might like to see implemented, be sure to "Like" this top/first post (as well as any subsequent posts in this thread that highlight particular aspects of what you are interested in) -- "Liking" the top/first post helps the Devs to know how much interest there is in a given Feature Request.
  18. EDIT: Initial title: "BUG: metadata date wrong if imdb release date is 1/1/nnnn" Changing due to bug applying to all movies, the date is a day out for all of them. Original Post. -------------- I've just noticed with a couple of films, old ones, that emby gets the year and date wrong is themoviedb's entry lists the release date as the 1st of January of that year, showing the 31st of December the year before instead. I'm guessing the exact release date wasn't known perhaps, for the old film, so 1/1 is entered... What i see (e.g. a 1977 movie): TheMovieDB's website lists Release Date (for an example) as 1977 Emby's page for the movie shows 1976 [wrong] Emby's metadata page shows Release Date as 31/12/1976 [wrong] Emby's metadata page shows Year as 1977 [correct] If i delete the metadata Release Date and refresh the movie in emby, then: Emby's page for the movie shows 1977 [correct] Emby's metadata page shows Release Date as 31/12/1976 [wrong] Emby's metadata page shows Year as 1977 [correct] So the refresh makes the movie look correct, unless you actually look at the metadata/info page. Is this some weird timezone error??? Tmdb's release date entry was for Israel, i'm in Indonesia... It's the only thing i can think off... but it shouldn't cause this, should it??? ... Strange.
  19. I have been using Emby/MB on FreeBSD for several years without any issues, but after upgrading to 3.2.4 it crashes every time I enter itemdetails.html for a new movie or TV show. When the process crashes, the primary cover image turns into a "broken image" icon on the client (using Google Chrome), whereas the rest of the images (season covers etc.) simply remain empty. After restarting Emby and reloading the page, all the images are there. It was working fine in 3.1.2. I skipped a couple of versions and went directly to 3.2.4, so I'm not sure which version introduced the issue. The mono process silently dies, and even with debug logging activated, nothing interesting seems to get written to the log file (server-X.txt): 2017-02-26 19:17:56.9407 Info HttpServer: HTTP GET http://moviebox:8096/emby/Users/44ce6b51025040a9990b93886f430537/Items/a2418600ad112d4aca7bb734166c02ef. 20. Somewhat related to the Bulk Edit of Metadata feature request ( https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/42975-bulk-edit-metadata/ ), I'd love to be able to specify a different Metadata Provider on a per-metadata basis. My desire for this comes from learning of the tradeoffs between the two main providers, OMDB and TMDB, as talked about in this thread ( https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/43818-three-genre-limit/&do=findComment&comment=409723 ), which indicates that OMDB tends to have user-preferred Ratings data, while TMDB tends to provide more Genres (OMDB apparently just provides the first 3). So, it would be nifty if I could set my default Metadata Provider as OMDB, but override that to be TMDB for something Genres (or any other piece of metadata). Then I'd get the best of both worlds. Edit: Wanted to clarify that upon further investigation it seems it isn't clear cut which provider lists more Genres. OMDB seems to cap it a 3, but that doesn't guarantee that other providers will actually have more Genres listed. I still think this Feature Request has merit (as the Genre thing was just an example), but wanted to clarify my misinformation from above. PS - If this is something you might like to see implemented, be sure to "Like" this top/first post (as well as any subsequent posts in this thread that highlight particular aspects of what you are interested in) -- "Liking" the top/first post helps the Devs to know how much interest there is in a given Feature Request.

    Collections metadata

I have an issue where certain movies are not adding to a collection as movies but as other items. I have tried removing these collections and letting the server scan them in again but they scan back in the same. Some movies even have TheMovieDB Collection Id but still have the same issue. I have attached the collection xml file for one of the problematic collections.
  22. Morning peeps How can you force the server to download/refresh all metadata for ever entry in the library these days. I know there used to be a task, that is no more
  23. Through a series of unfortunate errors I've ended up with all of my movies not having any metadata. I can go to each one and manually refresh the metadata and it shows up just fine. This will be very time consuming. Is there a way to force a refresh of my entire collection? Or should I just uninstall and reinstall Emby?

New Plugin: TV Maze Metadata Provider

Hi, this is a new metadata provider plugin for Emby, supporting TV Series, Seasons and Episodes as well as Season-Images. The data is retrieved from http://www.tvmaze.com/ The plugin should operate pretty stable, I've been running the code for a few months now without problems. But what's the benefit, now? Well, you got to make your own decision about how useful that additional data could be for you! Metadata handling in Emby is not a very transparent process. To compare the different metadata retrieved by the installed providers, it's probably best to use the Metadata Viewer Plugin (http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/32984-new-plugin-metadata-viewer/). After installing, you need to check your metadata settings for Series, Seasons and Episodes. You should choose the priorities based on your experience from comparing metadata results as described in the previous paragraph. If you're already satisfied with your current metadata retrieval or just don't want to make a significant change at this time, I recommend the following: Disable TV Maze for Series and Episodes (Emby already comes with 3 built-in providers for those) But enable TV Maze for Seasons (and Season images): The reason: Currently, there's only one provider for Season data and there are many cases where TV Maze has some season descriptions when the other (MovieDb) doesn't Download: https://github.com/softworkz/Emby.Plugins/releases/tag/TvMazeBeta1

    Multiple versions of films

Hi I have had a quick search hopefully no one hasn't asked this. I have a number of 3d and non 3d films. To identify them I change their title adding "3d" to the end and put them in a genre called "3d", after this i block the server from updating these aspects. I would love to see the functionality that enables these films to be displayed as one in the library and then you are asked which version you would like to watch. Is this possible at the moment or if not can I make this a feature request? Thanks
