The audio player in the iOS app is very buggy, with many visual issues and QoL issues which make listening to music an unpleasurable experience Device: iPhone 15 Pro Max OS : iOS 18.1 Beta 2 Emby server/app version: latest as of post Below is a video of my experience with the audio player in the emby app, issues visualised are: Flickering boxes behind UI elements, Low quality backdrop image (my suggestion would be a lot of blur here) low quality playing animation on current track in queue page UI not taking up full screen space, empty area above album art, could accommodate larger player controls if album art is moved up Other issues I’ve faced: Some playback issues with slow LTE speeds, which could be solved with better caching/pre-downloading Losing song progress when disconnected Thanks for reading ScreenRecording_08-17-2024 13-52-35_1.mov

Bug Report • Product: Emby Server • Version: 4.9.0.30 • Server Environment: Synology NAS (DSM 7.2) • Issue: Excessive Bandwidth Usage Problem Description When the streaming bitrate is set to 4K on the client, the server’s upload bandwidth usage consistently reaches 4K, even when the actual video bitrate is much lower. This results in inefficient bandwidth usage on the server. Steps to Reproduce 1. Set the streaming bitrate to 4K on the client. 2. Play a low-bitrate video. 3. Monitor server upload bandwidth—it remains close to 4K.

When using the podcast functionality, if you sort by release date it initially works fine before you've listened to any episodes, then as soon as you start any given episode, that episode gets thrown out of the sort order to become the newest by release date sort. I've tested this in multiple clients (Windows app, Chrome, Android) and the behavior is consistent. It also does not appear to be limited to any 1 podcast, experiencing the same behavior with about 4 that I've tested so far. (I'll include a sample below nonetheless) If I go to said podcast, sort by date ascending (oldest to newest) it will sort fine. Then if I start one of the older episodes (even just for a second or two) and leave and come back or otherwise refresh the sort, said episode will have moved all the way to the bottom as if it's the newest episode. Repeating the process results in the same resort, with the first one I played being the second "newest" (according to sort), and the second one now being the new "newest". I'm not sure if this might be somewhat intentional, because it is kinda nice to have completed episodes sorted out of the way when you're trying to go through chronologically, but for that I can just filter to only unplayed. Or at least I feel it should have a setting for this behavior since it's counterintuitive when you think you're sorting by release date. Sample podcast: https://feeds.libsyn.com/65267/rss

So for the last few days, no matter what I play, the next episode won't play automatically like it usually does. I will set certain series to shuffle while I'm working or sleeping. I went into my settings and everything is correctly set to play automatically. Maybe a bug? Any help appreciated

I have created some precise lyrics.lrc files, for some of the newest Rammstein songs. However, on playback I noticed the lyrics I timed with https://github.com/SubtitleEdit/subtitleedit are lagging behind. It seems they only change on the next full second, rounded up. Especially noticeable when the timing is something like [00:29.92]Und teilen gern ein halbes Leid Where it changes almost a full second too late. I would rather they change earlier (round down the decimal), or more precisely. I would also like to see the last line completely, not just a little bit cut off at the top. Maybe something like centering the active line in the top 1/4 and 3/4 is better Also, using the space bar for play/pause most of the time doesn't work when I click somewhere in the browser window, it just scrolls the lyrics text down. The focus seems to only stay on play/pause when I click the play/pause and gets lost when I click anything else

Bug: M4A music doesn't load properly on iOS 15 devices
MoviezMcGee posted a topic in Apple iOS / macOS
Description: Hello! I have an iPhone 7 running iOS 15.8.2 (latest supported version). Emby runs very well when watching movies and TV shows. For some reason, it plays MP3 music fine, but M4A encoded music sometimes plays, but usually fails spectacularly. Sometimes it will play just fine, but usually it will just not play anything. If I shuffle my whole music library, I can sometimes see it flash through hundreds of songs until it hits the MP3 audio I downloaded onto my device. If I load my server up in Safari, M4A audio plays just fine. Debugging information: Phone model: iPhone 7 iOS: 15.8.2 Emby app: Emby for iOS 2.2.17 Emby server: 4.8.3.0 Problematic codecs/containers: M4A (mpeg-4 audio) Additional information: When I have time to test, I will report whether or not newer versions of iOS and Android are affected. As mentioned, using the web app in Safari doesn't have any problems like this. -
on the ipad App the brightness is set to minimal value, after next episode on a series will set to max.

In the app, the player at the bottom flashes through hundreds of album covers in a moment, before landing on an MP3 file it can actually play. Additional information: When I have time to test, I will report whether or not newer versions of iOS and Android are affected. As mentioned, using the web app in Safari doesn't have any problems like this. Attached is a screen capture of this bug occurring, recorded on my iPhone 7. In the video, I press shuffle, and it soon after lands on an MP3 file and plays. I press it again, and it flies through a ton of M4A files until it gives up. Finally, I press it one more time, and it has a spinner and does nothing. Hey Emby Team, I hope this message finds you well. I've been encountering a peculiar issue with audio playback in the Emby app on my primary device, an Android phone (SM-J600G, Android 10). This problem has persisted for about a year, and I thought it's high time to bring it to your attention. Description: The issue manifests when attempting to play songs from my music library. Occasionally, the selected song takes an unusually long time to play, and I notice that the media playback notification doesn't display the image of the selected song. Subsequently, any subsequent attempts to play songs from my music library fail. Strangely enough, the tracks, albums, or playlists that I attempted to play during this issue spontaneously start playing later when I'm not using the app, or when watching movies or shows. Observations: Selected song takes longer to play. No image of the selected song in the media playback notification. Behavior: Unable to play any song from the music library when the issue occurs. Version Information: Emby Server Version: 4.8.0.63 beta Emby Android App Version: 3.3.56 (latest pre-release) Device Information: Model: SM-J600G Android Version: 10 Steps to Reproduce: Launch Emby app. Select a song from the music library. Observe the two signs mentioned above. Additional Notes: I haven't had the opportunity to test this on other devices as my current setup revolves around this primary device. This issue has been persistent since I started using Emby, and its intermittent nature makes it challenging to pinpoint the root cause. I'm reaching out to the community and the Emby team for insights and assistance in resolving this matter. Thanks for your time and support! Best, Dinesh Shrestha

The consonants and vowels in Korean subtitles appear separately. I think it might be a font issue. Fix directly or please enable the ability to add custom fonts as workaround. ㅎㅏㄴㄱㅜㄱㅇㅣㄴ (X) <- Current status. Not readable for korean, really. 한국인 (O) <- It works in previous version.

Since there are official playback speed options, I think it would be better to show the time when playback finishes accurately. Currently, the two numbers at the end of the seek-bar show time left in the current video and the time on a clock when that time has passed from now (i.e. `time_done = now() + time_remaining`). I think it would be better to show it as `time_done = now() + time_remaining / playback_speed` such that it is closer to now when playback speed is greater than 1, and further away when speed is less than 1. Maybe the same could be done with the time remaining in the video, but that may be confusing if that changes based on playback speed.

Phone: OnePlus A6013 Build: ONEPLUS A6013_41211125 OS: OxygenOS 11.1.2.2 Android: 11 Emby Android: 3.2.92 Problem: While casting music from server library, via the app, to a (chromecast) Google Nest Audio, I tapped the playing media on the bottom, and the phone lost all UI and flashed between black and my phone's unlocked background. Eventually the phone rebooted with the message "This device has entered an unstable state. Please reboot using the exit button below". After reboot I attempted to open the app and the same thing happened. Later I got the pop-up "System UI keeps stopping" Reproducing the issue: Sometimes caused by performing the exact same steps above to select playing media from album media screen, or selecting Emby after a reboot. Note: Only happens with any audio that has generic art in any album that has generic art (see attached). Persistence: Repeats even after closing app from tray, force stopping app, deleting storage and logging back in, uninstalling, reinstalling the app and restarting phone before logging back in. Cannot reproduce on OnePlus A6003, so may be isolated to A6013. Escaping the issue: Possible only by a hard reboot. Solving the issue: Avoiding files with generic art/removing files from server for now

When listening to a song on "http://app.emby.media/#!/videoosd/videoosd.html": and when browsing to my local ip and port "http://192.168.2.243:8096/web/index.html#!/videoosd/videoosd.html" Both were accessed through the search for the song, but only the local ip variant moves the lyrics upward and has a scroll-bar for the lyrics. The local ip variant also does not show the backdrop for the band but instead the album cover of the song, but that is not as important to me. Both in the same browser window in different tabs.

I recently setup a new computer on my network and ran into the browser issue where the server could not be found. I looked into that deeper, and traced down an issue in the `emby-apiclient/connectionmanager.js` code. * The site `http://app.emby.media/#!/startup/selectserver.html` requests the list of servers (`https://connect.emby.media/service/servers?userId=XXXX`), and receives the correct list from the host which includes both the external URL and the local URL. * However when the function "connectToServer" is called, the serverInfo object has the LocalAddress as Undefined. Looking further into this I see the following code in the same file return console.log("Begin getConnectServers"), credentials.ConnectAccessToken && credentials.ConnectUserId ? ajax({ type: "GET", url: "https://connect.emby.media/service/servers?userId=".concat(credentials.ConnectUserId), dataType: "json", headers: { "X-Application": "".concat(instance.appName(), "/").concat(instance.appVersion()), "X-Connect-UserToken": credentials.ConnectAccessToken } }).then(function(servers) { return servers.map(function(i) { return { ExchangeToken: i.AccessKey, ConnectServerId: i.Id, Id: i.SystemId, Name: i.Name, RemoteAddress: i.Url, LocalAddress: i.LocalAddres } }) After the network call to get the servers is made, the response is remapped and the `LocalAddress` is assigned to `i.LocalAddres` Note the missing second `s` in `i.LocalAddres`. This I believe is a bug. This is why on first visit a browser cannot navigate to a server on the local network. After you manually add an IP address, emby stores a cookie so the ip address is mapped properly based on the server IP so from that point forward the problem becomes mute. But initially the setup is awkward.

When a video is large, say greater than 8GB, the player takes an really long time to display video. Think: on the order of ten seconds. And this delay time scales with the size of the file. Often, the audio starts playing without video and the spinner just spins. Tested against VLC and Plex on the same hardware, on the same files, and these programs perform without delay

After watching the rightmost item in the "Next Up" category, the list containing the remaining items shifts to the left, so much so that only a tiny edge of the rightmost thumbnail is showing at the left side of the screen. Using the up/down/left/right keys on my remote will not allow me to navigate to the "Next Up" section. The cursor has moved up to the next (topmost) section of my homepage, so I don't have access to any of the sections below "Next Up". Of course I can use the mouse or exit and restart Emby, but these options are quite annoying when I'm relaxing on the couch with my remote in hand. This isn't exactly a new bug, I've just been putting up with it for some time now, but it really needs to be fixed. Emby Theater client, Windows 10, Homepage using rows layout, remote control

Unlike when I click the "back arrow" with my mouse, when I use the remote or mouse "back" button to return to a page with actor thumbnails, the padding around the thumbnails disappears. This is also the case for the Season page (where the seasons are listed from top to bottom), when I enter an episode and then use the "back" button, the padding between the seasons in the list disappears. Today, after restarting Emby Theater for Windows, I noticed some peculiar behavior when using my remote. I observed the following: When playing a video, 'skip forward/backward' will work once, but misbehave when the remote button is pressed repeatedly. There is a response that resembles a skip, but the interval seems to be small or zero. Outside of 'play mode' the remote seems to function correctly Holding the skip button on the remote works as expected If I wait for what seems like about 8 or 9 seconds, the skip action will work again. (I have not really dwelt on replicating and timing this aspect) Multiple clicks on the GUI work as expected When the 'multiple remote skips' situation is created, pressing the back/exit button does not exit the video. Only after pressing the back/exit button twice (or sometimes more than twice) will the video exit. If a video is started and there are no 'multiple remote skips' applied, pressing back/exit works as expected (the video exits). I will add more details if I notice anything.

Holding Back button from login will launch home screen of last user
Digitoxin1 posted a topic in Android TV / Fire TV
I'm running AndroidTV 2.0.77g. From the login screen, if you hold the back button, it will take you to the home screen of the last logged in user bypassing any required login credentials. You can reproduce this doing the following: 1. Log in to any user on the login screen or using manual login. 2. Navigate to the user menu at the top and choose log off which will also exit the app. 3. Launch the app which will take you back to the login screen. 4. Hold the back button on the remote until it gives you the message that it is taking you home. 5. You will now be on the home screen of the last logged in user.- 1 reply

PersonNfoProvider still runs even if exist actor id is provided.
Josephus posted a topic in General/Windows
I obtained metadata containing actor information from TMDB. After I manually modified the actor name, I also modified the movie introduction and save with the prompt modal panel. At this time, I saw that the information sent by the POST request contained the original actor id, but The PersonNfoProvider in the background is still running again, and because the actor name has been modified, it cannot be obtained at this time, so a new actor is generated. Tried different versions of TMDB plugin, but I think this wasn't a problem sometime before. Wondering why. @Luke -
Audiobook-As-'TVShow' won't play on Shield TV (But Good on Web/Mobile)
Hawkwinter posted a topic in Android TV / Fire TV
Preamble / Background: I have a ton of Audiobooks, mostly Audible, but some not. But None of my options are any good at organizing them, and having them on multiple platforms is a nuisance, as is not being able to stream them from my media server. So - I tried making an "Audiobook" Library, but that was a big sea of files (or folders) and the audiobooks had the metadata fields of a song and I couldn't structure my collections into series, all of which was really not great. In a Stroke of 'What If' - I thought - "Maybe I can import them all as a TV Series instead?" So I tried it. I renamed the m4a files to mp4. And then I tested it on web. And it worked perfectly. ff/rw/pause/resume/continue. And then I tested it on Mobile. And it worked perfectly there as well. I know it's kind-of off-label , but Audiobooks-As-TV-Series is perfect interface-wise. I made the audiobook into a 'season' within the overall series, and that let me have individually sectioned chapters (as episodes), and jump between them easily. I also tried converting the same audiobook to a single m4a/mp4 with 'chapters' and Emby detects those correctly as well - though only accessible on Web, no mobile. If you could access the chapters on Android when opening it as a TV-Show, all-in-one, All-In one would be ideal, organizationally - but I can manage with many short episodes instead - that's not the reason for this thread. https://scontent-lga3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.15752-9/288765161_868742904085050_4858505779076026758_n.png?_nc_cat=110&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=ae9488&_nc_ohc=BVfNNBZabnQAX9cbNly&_nc_ht=scontent-lga3-1.xx&oh=03_AVIjvEAgPwfankfz-LOLbPy_tyjcgti5CyCiZanXT4_hLQ&oe=62F059D2 I mean - I had to populate the metadata myself, but that's not so hard. Mostly copy paste. And I've gotten pretty good at it at this point. It's a bit rough looking and only partly filled in, but it is a test. With this working - I would / will be able to neatly insert my "The Clone Wars" audiobooks (Ahsoka, and the Ventress novel) where they fit into "The Clone Wars", which would / will be ideal. -------------- The Problem: It does not work on the TV. The TV says "Too Many Errors, Giving Up", rather than playing the audio over a black screen with controls like I expected after seeing it work flawlessly on web and mobile. --------------- The Request / Bug Report / Whatever this is: I would really like it if the TV Client handled such files the same way mobile and web do, by playing the audio and not freaking out about the lack of a video track. Then I can import the rest of my audiobooks (many of which are Forgotten Realms Novels written by a dozen authors, that I would like to add to my media library in chronological order making up one giant forgotten realms "show" with like 50 "seasons" (that I own). I can manage without being able to use it on my TV, but being able to use it on my TV would be very helpful. ----------------- Aside: Feature Request Being able to access video chapters on mobile would be handy. ------------------ Thank you for your time. -
Server 4.7.4.0 on Ubuntu 20.04 - display bug in Network information
rotational467 posted a topic in Linux
Hi there! I noticed after installing 4.7.4.0 that there is a bug in the Dashboard for the server's network address. I'm not sure if this existed prior to 4.7.4.0 because I just recently changed the default HTTPS port. Anyway as per the screenshot, the listed WAN address shows the default 8920 port and not the custom port. I can confirm that Emby really is listening on the custom port and not 8920, so this seems to simply be a display artifact. -
I use a remote with Emby Theater. I can see how the new music "screensaver" (I don't know what to call it) might work with a mouse, but it does not integrate well with a remote control. When I'm listening to music and moving around the screen using the remote, the screensaver just kicks in and takes the interface away from me. Then I need to use back/exit to return to the previous screen. After a few seconds, it rips the interface away from me again. At the same time, the remote actions feel ambiguous while in the screensaver. Is there a way to turn it off? I don't really see why I would want this screensaver at all. It doesn't really improve the user experience. I mean, if you actually had some really cool visualizations, it might be appealing. As it is now, it just infuriates me when the system rends control from me. It's reminiscent of the feeling a popup takes the focus on a webpage, or when a Windows system dialog pops up unnecessarily.
