Every now and then, my Emby server just hangs during the library scan because it gets stopped from somewhere, I really don't know where this is coming from, log attached. server-63582940533.txt

When scanning my library to Emby, and the server calls ffprobe to analyze the files, it seems to occasionally hang at this step, resulting in main@htpc:~/.emby-server/logs$ ps -efj | grep ffprobe main 16995 17978 16994 17978 0 11:48 pts/0 00:00:00 grep ffprobe main 26502 20731 20731 20731 0 11:22 ? 00:00:00 /home/main/.emby-server/ffmpeg/20150917/ffprobe -i file:/media/Media2/Music/Roger Waters/Ca Ira/01-06 Act 1_ Scene 2_ Honest Bird, Simple Bird.flac -threads 0 -v info -print_format json -show_streams -show_format running forever at 0% CPU load. The library scan gets stuck there. Any ideas where this might come from?

Version 3.0.5724.6 I've received Unhandled Exceptions sometimes when I do scans, but recently I've not been able to scan my library because I receive the same error about 30 minutes during EVERY scan. I haven't been able to scan my library because of this error because it crashes the server. I have rebooted the server after I receive the error, but during the next scheduled scan, Emby will crash. Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute. server-63579945600.txt unhandled_3ad978a7-8f86-4f42-9421-4e8e8257e31e.txt

I'm pretty comfortable with Arch, but Emby has put me to the test. After two days and several 6-packs of Coke, I finally got it installed and configuration up and running in Chrome. I even somehow got two forms of media added to the library from my WD MyCloud NAS. But the folder scanning is failing. In the Library section, under the Scan Library button it just always says "Last result: (failed)". Really, really not sure what is going on. Anyone have any thoughts? My latest log file is attached but it's all greek to me. emby-Log-2015.09.20.txt

MBS - emby server - separate trigger for recursive mediainfo scan
jody posted a topic in Feature Requests
Hi all, I'm facing this issue: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/24157-webclient-recursive-library-scan-missing-mediainfo/ basically I have missing mediainfo for some files, during regular or advanced library scan the missing mediainfo is not added if you have folder within folders (so recursive). If ran on the single, individual file, then it works, but with a 50TB library that is nuts. So would it be possible to add a separate trigger to scan/add missing mediainfo in a recursive scan ? -
I have the following setup: Movies HD - Movie 1 -----Movie 1.mkv - Movie 2 -----Movie 2.mkv - Collection XYZ -----Movie X -----------Movie X.mkv -----Movie Y -----------Movie Y.mkv -----Movie Z -----------Movie Z.mkv In Emby Metadata Manager, under the Grou Movies, I see Movie 1, 2 and the Collection Folder XYZ. When I perform a full refresh of Movies HD, all movies are refreshed except the Movies in the Collection subfolder. So have to go through all the collection folders to refresh them manually... Is it possible to implement a Level-2-Scan or recursive scanning instead of the actual scanning of just one level down? I think it really would make sense to go one level deeper as many people use such subfolders for Collections (eg. Harry Potter, Hellboy, The Godfather, ) or Numbering (A, B, C...)

Hi At the moment, we have the progress bars for the scanning of the libraries. Could we have an additional little log window, that tells us what it's doing in a simple form? So it could look like this: I'd love to know what it's actually doing...

Due to the Library Scan stalling issues with the Dev MBS build, I installed Beta MBS on a separate PC and copied all of the libraries (TV, Movies and Photos) I use in Dev to the Beta setup, but the library scan is still stalling. The Following Work as manual ammedments within the identify function... St. Vincent - without the year St Vincent (2014) - without the full stop St. Vincent 2014 - without the year in brackets %Movietitle% (%Year%) ...has always been a good way to get 100% detection...so is this a bug/an opportunity to improve? or am i out of step with naming convention and need to change...? My library scans always take ages. I've been looking through logs and tidying up my video content. And I think I have it pretty tidy now. I use metabrowser - so all content has local metadata (xml and images etc). I have "Download artwork and metadata from internet" turned off. I have "Save artwork and metadata into media folders" turned on. I ran a complete scan, then restarted MBS and ran a scan again - no new data was added, and still the scan took over six minutes, which seems a little excessive. Here's the log: txt (7MB) or zip (462K) I'm a bit concerned about the 9,648 "Debug - App: Saving xxxx to database" messages considering nothing has changed since the previous scan.

I am trying to programatically get the server Library to rescan. This used to work using a simple curl command couple months ago, but I understand that additional token-based security has been added, according to http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/topic/72-user-authentication/ I am trying to follow the instructions to authenticate as per the first step in https://github.com/MediaBrowser/MediaBrowser/wiki/Authentication but to no avail. I have tried a variety of curl commands, similar to this (note: I do not have a password set): curl -d 'Authorization=MediaBrowser UserId="0d2c22c2debe62c66cc552b00adbfad4", Client="iOS", Device="iPhone", DeviceId="8912f03b961d76e736637d5d6014a586406de64c", Version="1.0.0.0"' -d "username=Foo" --dump-header headers http://192.168.0.30:8096/mediabrowser/Users/AuthenticateByName but the error I receive is: HTTP/1.1 500 NullReferenceException Transfer-Encoding: chunked Content-Type: text/html Vary: Accept Server: Microsoft-HTTPAPI/2.0 X-UA-Compatible: IE=Edge X-Application-Error-Code: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. I know that the username (and empty pass) step I've entered is successfully, because if I deliberately enter it incorrectly I get a difference error ("Invalid username or password entered").

Version 3.0.5410.32765 for as long as i can remember, I use a script to name (and rename) episodes filenames identical to TVDB. an example would be S01E01 - Old episode name.mp4 S01E01 - New Episode Name.mp4 Ive recently noticed that existing episodes whos filenames change have started to be identified as new content. Perhaps its related to the setting. 'Date Added Behaviour For New Content' for me it makes sense that it is 'the date scanned into library'... but should existing content (an episode for example), which was already scanned in and has just had its file name changed, be marked 'new'..? movies are not marked new when their name changes...

I've been experiencing this issue since, I believe, (but cannot be 100% sure) the last Beta Server update. Running 3.0.5366.22005. I'm not running MBS as a service Essentially the scan always stops at 38.8% and won't proceed past that point. If I try and stop the scan, the 'stopping' message appears but never goes (for example, left it over night - still said the same message in the morning). If I try to exit the server or restart the server then the server seems to exit, but will not restart. I have to reboot the machine. I've been trying to figure out what is causing the issue - but it would be good if someone with more knowledge can help out! Thanks server-63547113599.txt

Server Version 3.0.5309.26857 CPU i7 / 8GB RAM / Win7 64-bit ISP is 50 Mbit/s down Wired Gigabit Ethernet Throughout Hi All - Should I purge old metadata? I have a new NAS and am consolidating about 20TB (350 TV Series + 1000 Movies) that used to reside as backups. It is taking days and days to complete the library scan even with several server restarts after hangs at 65%. I have many folders that are full of "old style" meta data files of numbered jpgs in the season metadata folder and old mymovies.xml files. Could this be part of the problem? Should I just purge these files and refresh? They are just duplicates as they are now in the folders. Thanks, Tanamur

Server - 'Organisational' Folder Type Detection in Music Collections
ginjaninja posted a topic in Feature Requests
MB3 currently doesn't support the following folder structure... [\org{0, n}] [\artist\{0,1}] [\org {0,n}] \album where org=organisational subfolder {0,n}= zero to many instances []=optional Could such support be added, or alternatively could an xml tag/file be recognised by mb3 to treat organisational folders as organisational and NOT as artists/albumartists. eg M:\Music\Soundtracks\Blade Runner\Tracks.mp3 M:\Music\Soundtracks\Top Gun\Tracks.mp3 M:\Music\Soundtracks\Jungle Book\Tracks.mp3 Soundtracks is detected (shown in dashboard) as an albumartist and artist.xml is placed on filesystem thanks for considering. -
With the update to Media Browser 3.0.5264.17006 I had a problem where my Roku channel wouldn't open. Now I'm having a problem where the library scan is hanging. I noticed it last night--the media library scan would get stuck at 55% and never move past. I finally turned off the SPI Firewall on my router while tinkering with different settings and the scan completed quickly without any issues. The router firewall was always on when using MediaBrowser and I have never changed any settings in it. Any idea why there would suddenly be a problem with the new MediaBrowser release? I tried to upload two server files but the first was 780kb so the system would not let me upload it. Joe Smart server-63537306383.txt

Hi Team, Firstly... love the media browser system (MBC and MBT). Even in Beta I'm enjoying the interface and functionality. Every update brings more fun and exciting toys to play with. Keep up the amazing work! I looked as best I could to see if anyone had already suggested this and wasn't able to find any particular post about it, so I thought I'd create a topic. I was wondering if the following might be a little quick fix tweak which would be useful for others (as well as myself). In the Scan Media Library scheduler, you can choose from Daily, Weekly, At an Interval, Application Start or Event. These are all very useful and I have mine set for nightly at 0200hrs. What I thought would be great (specifically for my schedule and routine), would be if you could have a "Day of the week" option which allowed you to have a different schedule per day of the week. For example: Weekdays: Scan @ 0200hrs + 1500hrs (this would allow you to catch any items which were downloaded post 0200 hours while you're at work) Weekends: Scan @ 0200hrs (this way you would not have the scan running at a time when you might be making use of the sysem) The reason this is would be useful (in my situation) is that my setup is configured for minimal complication and cost, making use of technology which (almost) anyone could set up and comprehend. Which I understand is in line with the overall vision of what Media Browser is all about. I could set up something more advanced and not have to worry about system resources or utilisation, but I'm trying to avoid that. The problem stems from when a library scan runs, it chews up a fair bit of network / modem / router resource which makes multitasking quite cumbersome. Watching a movie or episode when a library scan is in progress is usually not possible. I think the cause is the router struggling with processing the network throughput for high def streaming at the same time as trying to process a media library scan with it's attached network drives. I'm looking into a proper NAS system but thats for future me to worry about. I have read that apparently Media Browser Server should be doing "on the fly" updates as items are added in a "watch folder" kind of way but thus far I've not seen any evidence of this actually happening. If anyone has any suggestions which would explain why it's not I'm open to solutions I might not have looked at. If this is the wrong way to post a feature request or I'm barking up the wrong tree, please feel free to let me know. Thanks!!!

Poor Performance due to scanning media set to be ignored
Andrew@Brisbane posted a topic in General/Windows
Just upgraded from MB2 about four days ago. My wife complained to me that video was randomly becoming laggy and stuttering for short periods. I noticed it myself and had a look. Looks to me like whenever the library scan kicks in the performance drops way down. I noticed that everytime a scan occurs it starts hitting the internet for metadata, but MBS appears to ignore the [dontfetchmeta] tag and everytime a scan occurs it requests metadata for the same stuff it failed to find last time it ran. Runs for about 5-10 minutes and then performance picks back up. I disabled getting metadata from the internet and this solved the problem, but makes me sad. :-( Currently running MBC and MBS on same machine.
