I'm at the point I just have to ask...

It seems that this release has been forever in the making.  Is there any hope we have a general idea when to expect the next release?  Nothing exact, but a general target?  This month?  September?

I've been holding off on creating playlists, etc... due to upcoming changes.  I'm just wondering what the holdup is on getting the next release out?

I think that there are many, myrself included, eagerly anticipating the release. A quick look at threads in the past few months indicates that the 4.8 release is going to be huge. Among other things, we have been told to expect...

• a fix for TV recordings not generating thumbnail images
• improvements to SMB mount point handling
• a fix for nvidia shield and emby android tv transcoding
• a fix for ATSC streaming problem
• additional support for DolbyVision
• quicksync improvements
• improved support for subtitle subfolders
• better handling of filesystem interruptions in library scans
• a fix for downloading videos in the IOS Emby app
• dashboard and search performance improvements
• improved handling of multi-part videos
• better support for apple M1/M2 chips for HW encode/decode
• a fix for missing filters in TV show libraries
• a bug fix for DLNA
• additional support for filtering new content notices
• a fix for 'access denied' breaking library scans
• support for SeriesProviderIds in subtitle searches
• a fix pertaining to handling of chinese subtitles
• improved handling of videos with a large number of subtitle tracks
• better handling of realtime library changes while a scan is running
• additional support for 13th gen intel cpus when transcoding
• an updated version of ffmpeg
• a fix for internet radio and Music Library type libraries
• fixes for data anonymizing
• a fix for a webhooks bug
• a fix for a memory leak pertaining to picture libraries
• a fix for and issue with nVidia cards and encoders/decoders
• a fix for an issue with movies not being automatically identified
• addition of a sort button to the collections screen
• additional support for subfolders in music libraries
• additional support for hauppage tuner recordings
• support for higher bitrate conversions
• a fix for Roku playback hanging at 99%
• removal of support for local accounts without a password
• support for playlists in TV libraries
• improved support for special characters
• improvements to the Emby web application
• improved file system scan times
• improvements to metadata discovery in music video libraries
• support for combined rating and tags content restrictions

And of course with the recent major security incident there are several additional changes being made pertaining to security.

To my knowledge there has not been an official date posted for release of 4.8. Many of the things listed above are already implemented on in process of implementation in the beta release branch. However, as you can see there is already a long list of commitments stated publicly dating as far back as November of 2022, and that's not even in consideration of the things that I may have missed listing or that they have never stated publicly.

Personally I still don't expect 4.8 for a while, especially in consideration of the aforementioned security overall currently underway.

Not really helpful I know, but at least some context.

Thanks @andrewds...  I agree this is going to be a big release.  That's why I'm anxiously waiting.

I recently rebuilt my new server.  One of the things which is big for me is the playlist functionality being unique to each user.  That's expected in this release too.  I'm not complaining, I'm just wishing there was some input on an approximate "when".  Our last update was over six months ago now, and prior to that we were getting updates pretty much monthly. 

I know...  Sounds like complaining.  LOL

I know, and you know we appreciate all the work...  I'm trying to complain without sounding like complaining, but not really complain.  LOL

Just anxious for the upgrades....
