BBQThunder 3 Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Hello, I did a search and tried to RFTM before posting here. Is there a rough ETA on when the M1/M2 chips will be fully supported for HW encode/decode? I notice there is a H.264 encoder in the server config. I haven't seen it get used yet in the dashboard view or when looking at the Activity Monitor I don't see ffmpeg using the GPU. Thank you in advanced.
Luke 39648 Posted February 21, 2023 Posted February 21, 2023 Hi, we are working on it and hope to have it included in the upcoming 4.8 server release. 1
prettyboytomato 0 Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 Hey Luke, is this still looking like it'll make it into the 4.8 server release?

qb1985 0 Posted July 9, 2023 Posted July 9, 2023 Excelent. Looking towards 4.8 server release m1/m2 GPU acceleration.
Quincarter 0 Posted November 5, 2023 Posted November 5, 2023 Waiting on this anxiously! When will 4.8 drop?

Warshanks 0 Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 If you guys get HWA working on M1/M2, will M3 be covered as well? I'd love to be able to use a M3 Mac Mini as a server. Thanks!

I think it's safe to assume if M1 and M2 will be supported, and M3 devices are available to the public, M3 will be covered in 4.8 update as well...
xiaowang 2 Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 I hope the M2 chip can support hardware decoding/encoding as soon as possible 1
BBQThunder 3 Posted January 17, 2024 Author Posted January 17, 2024 @Luke Any updates on when 4.8 will be available with Apple GPU support?
kalanihelekunihi 5 Posted January 27, 2024 Posted January 27, 2024 At this point, any idea on when there will be a beta with M1/M2/M3 VideoToolbox hardware accelerated transcoding support? Starting to feel like an idiot paying for Emby Premiere when it can go years without basic functionality working, and over a year since the “wait for 4.8” update on the issue. 2
Quincarter 0 Posted January 28, 2024 Posted January 28, 2024 They are in active development on it. Not sure what the hold up is, honestly. They are in like beta 75 as of 3 days ago https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases/releases/tag/4.8.0.75
kalanihelekunihi 5 Posted January 28, 2024 Posted January 28, 2024 There are not beta builds for macOS. Other platforms receiving the beta is not relevant to the ask of 3 years worth of hardware not supporting hardware acceleration.

It wasn't from https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases/releases/tag/4.8.0.75 or https://emby.media/mac-server.html Based on Luke's ongoing comments including one from this past month, it also seems to be a surprise to him!

ronmramsayii 14 Posted January 28, 2024 Posted January 28, 2024 The latest I'm running is 4.8.71 beta on macOS, M1 Mac Mini. I see the builds are up to 4.8.75 now... @Luke just has to release an updated beta build for macOS.
BBQThunder 3 Posted January 28, 2024 Author Posted January 28, 2024 Where are you getting the beta from? I haven't seen it on the Github page?

The last release for macOS was January 16th or 17th. @Lukehas been posting here when a new build is live: 1

BBQThunder 3 Posted January 28, 2024 Author Posted January 28, 2024 It seems like that installer isn’t on the releases page, I’ll have to just keep waiting. It has been a year already hopefully a new beta releases soon

kalanihelekunihi 5 Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 We still aren't getting macOS builds... Why does this keep happening, especially when there's no issue building 67 other targets? 1
