M1/M2 GPU acceleration support

Hello, I did a search and tried to RFTM before posting here.  Is there a rough ETA on when the M1/M2 chips will be fully supported for HW encode/decode?

I notice there is a H.264 encoder in the server config.  I haven't seen it get used yet in the dashboard view or when looking at the Activity Monitor I don't see ffmpeg using the GPU.

Thank you in advanced.

Hey Luke, is this still looking like it'll make it into the 4.8 server release?

Hi, yes hopefully. Thanks.

If you guys get HWA working on M1/M2, will M3 be covered as well? I'd love to be able to use a M3 Mac Mini as a server. Thanks!

I think it's safe to assume if M1 and M2 will be supported, and M3 devices are available to the public, M3 will be covered in 4.8 update as well...

At this point, any idea on when there will be a beta with M1/M2/M3 VideoToolbox hardware accelerated transcoding support?

Starting to feel like an idiot paying for Emby Premiere when it can go years without basic functionality working, and over a year since the “wait for 4.8” update on the issue.

There are not beta builds for macOS.
Other platforms receiving the beta is not relevant to the ask of 3 years worth of hardware not supporting hardware acceleration.

That’s odd. I’m running 4.8 beta on an M1 Mac Mini right now.

Where did you get the installer?  I would love to try that out on M2 Mac Mini

The latest I'm running is 4.8.71 beta on macOS, M1 Mac Mini. I see the builds are up to 4.8.75 now... @Luke just has to release an updated beta build for macOS.

Where are you getting the beta from?  I haven't seen it on the Github page?

https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases/releases -- but the *.71 build isn't there anymore. My guess is because others have been released since. The last release for macOS was January 16th or 17th.

@Lukehas been posting here when a new build is live:

It seems like that installer isn’t on the releases page, I’ll have to just keep waiting.  It has been a year already hopefully a new beta releases soon

More than likely we’ll get an update this week.

We still aren't getting macOS builds... Why does this keep happening, especially when there's no issue building 67 other targets?
