Emby doesn't respect folder location like 4.5.4.0

No, that's what happening in 4.6.x.x but not 4.5.4.0.

Something broke in 4.6.x.x

I agree that one episode can not be part of more than one season. It doesn't make sense, and is incorrect.

What are you telling Emby when you use nfo metadata to say an episode is in season 2, and folder naming metadata to say the same episode is in season 1?

I think you confused yourself. Do take a hard look at the first post. It is as clear I could make it.

No, your metadata is confused, regardless of what Emby version you run. You should correct it to represent exactly what you want and stop sending Emby conflicting information.

Its S02E01, but resides in Season 1 Folder.

The actual video file, S02E01 is in Season 1 folder, this does not change.

Its not confused in 4.5.4.0.

It works perfectly in 4.5.4.0.

This is easily replicable, you can test it yourself if you do not believe me. Happy already tested it and confirmed 4.5.4.0 works differently than 4.6.x.x.

Please do not speculate, do the test and let me know.

We are not confused.  I was going to post your own NFO back to show it here but you've removed them. :)

Lucky I quoted parts of it here:

This after you told us you don't use tvdb. That it's part of Season one.

But here is what your NFO said:

<uniqueid default="true" type="tvdb">86075</uniqueid>
<season>2</season>
<episode>1</episode>
<displayseason>-1</displayseason>
<displayepisode>-1</displayepisode>

So you're telling Emby what the tvdb entry is.
You're telling Emby to display this in Season 2 as Episode 1

but also giving other BAD data for season/episode right in the NFO file itself.

This file was also name S02E01 but yet was in Season 1 folder.

Your giving so much contradictory information it's amazing Emby could even display this show.

I PM'ed them to Happy, since he's the only one who's willing to test.

You are still speculating, do the test.

Your metadata is wrong. You should correct it.

As you've agreed, a single episode can't be part of two different seasons.

How Emby reacts to you telling it one episode is a part of two different seasons is irrelevant.

Your metadata is wrong. You should correct it.

Metadata is a vague word.

Please be specific, what is wrong? My NFO file?

Folder naming is metadata.

nfo is metadata.

Does your folder season match your nfo season for all of your episodes?

I have tested on numerous platforms as I have said. There is no speculation in this.
Others have tested and reported back as well. Happy2Play also told you that you are doing this wrong.

I have asked for your database a few times which you refuse to do.

Everyone who comments in this thread from users to tech support to devs tell you that you're doing this wrong.
We explain how you're giving conflicting information but you dismiss this and tell us we need to reread things.

You could fix this series in 15 minutes or so to display the way you want it to if you would listen to what's being said.

As per my first post,

which folder name is wrong?

Its Season 1, Season 2, Season 3 etc.

Nfo shows the correct episode number/season.

So I ask again, what do you think is wrong here

Your NFO metadata, and the filename (which is metadata) both say the file belongs in Season 2.

You however have placed the file in a Season 1 folder.

"Wrong" is perhaps the wrong word - but there is a mismatch between the metadata and file location, that had been explained since page 1 of this thread

If you want the episodes to appear in a single place then the metadata needs to match - If you want those episodes in Season 1, then edit the metadata (NFO and Filename to reflect that), either that or move them to the correct Season 2 folder.

Its because you can easily replicate it.

Read again, Happy confirmed 4.5.4.0 is working as I described.

Its all good and I understand what you mean.

But 4.5.4.0 works well without going through hoops like you suggested.

So, in the end 4.6.x.x needs a fix.

No, that's the point of this thread. Read the title if you missed it.

No your library is the only thing that needs to be fixed.

If your metadata and file/folder structure don't match then Emby can only guess - in 4.5.4.0 it guessed a certain way, but in 4.6.x.x it has been changed (likely to support the move to greater Metadata reliance as already mentioned)

Can it be guessed a certain way in 4.6.x.x too?

Any downsides to that?

4.5.4.0 works.

You've agreed that one episode can't be part of two different seasons.

You're also providing metadata to Emby that says one episode is part of season 2 and season 1.

Fix your metadata.

Yes, 4.6.x.x shows in both Season 1 and Season 2.

So we need a fix.

And 4.6.x.x, 4.7.x.x, 5.x, 6.x etc will all work going forward if you fix your library.

Stop trying to argue that your unsupported library should for some reason be supported.

The amount of effort you are spending to argue this, you could have fixed it already

4.6 is doing exactly what your metadata has told it to do.

Fix your metadata so you stop telling Emby one episode is in two seasons.
