embyforkodi (next-gen) 10.X.X support
dapharsyde replied to quickmic's topic in Emby For Kodi Next Gen
Hi quickmic, I tried this new version, but the file list is still not being refreshed after I delete content. I also tried backing out of the folder and going back in, but the deleted file still shows up in the listing. Please let me know if you have any suggestions, thank you! -

PGS Subs embedded my MKVs get misplaced after hardware transcoding
chouyee replied to Nauclerus's topic in Linux
I used the method you mentioned, and it worked. But now there is a very serious problem, -canvas_size:s:1 is not always the same, it could be -canvas_size:s:0, it could be -canvas_size:s:5. -
The examples that you have given do not show an "Album Artist" tag, they just show "Album" and "Artist" tags. I am not suggesting that you change "my artist name" to "my album artist name" for the problem albums/tracks. Of course you should keep the correct individual Artist(s) for an individual Song. "Album Artist" is a distinct field/tag from "Artist" and "Album" - supported by Emby and most other music management platforms, for grouping an Albums tracks and keeping individual Artists for the individual Songs. You could use "Various Artists" as the "Album Artist" tag for compilation albums, E.g. Track number: 1 Album name: My album Track name: My song Artist name: Sally Smith Album Artist name: Various Artists Location: d:/music/MyAlbum/01-my-song.mp3 Track number: 2 Album name: My album Track name: Other song Artist name: John Doe Album Artist name: Various Artists Location: d:/music/MyAlbum/02-other-song.mp3 From what I understand, the folder/file structure/names don't matter greatly with the latest Emby version - it is the higher priority embedded tags that need to be correct. What are the Album Artist tags for the problem albums you have? How many albums have problems? What music tagging program do you use before importing into Emby? What does this show for Album Artist? I also have a decades-old music collection of 1000s of albums, but still learn something new about Emby and music curation every day. E.g. when I first imported music into Emby, I had circa 500 albums too many, due to 'hidden' AlbumArtist tags being different from 'visible' Album Artist tags. This was not Emby's fault, it was due to tag errors with my embedded metadata. Correcting the errors resolved most of the problems. Yes, it took a while, but was worth it - I rediscovered some old music and fixed up some other missing metadata fields while listening to it! With Mp3tag it is also possible to create auto Actions and Scripting Functions to make updating and changing tags more automatic and less manual. There's a learning curve involved, but it can be a useful method for updating tags with a bit less pain. I have updated batches of 10,000 tracks by running an Action. Set it going and then go and do something else for a few hours! If you provide some more info, with actual examples, then perhaps Emby or a community member will be able to further assist? (Apologies if I have still misunderstood the problem.)

rbroh started following Emby connect not working

Using either the internal or external addresses listed on my server dashboard, I'm able to connect to my emby server. Using emby connect, I can sign in (as can my other family members) and see my server, but clicking on it produces an error (screenshot below). I know I could use the external ip address, but I don't have a static one, so it'd be a pain to update when it changes. Any ideas? Thanks

The device is Toshiba TV running Android 8.0.0 (kernel version 3.10.79) Client is Emby for Android ver 2.1.10g Emby server is 4.8.5.0 You ask for a log file - is this a server log ? I read the instructions for sending a log directly from Emby for Android TV, but can't find "debug options". Attached is my cog menu.

Q-Droid started following Emby Premier Costs etc.
-
I'll start by saying that I'm not affected by the device limit so to me it's not a big deal either way. And as long as the overall experience doesn't change I can understand a cost increase and/or changes to premiere options since there hasn't been much of a price change over the years. Maybe those calling the Emby team greedy or deceitful should consider this: Emby, the company and the product, have to navigate waters where the big media companies swim. These companies which include the well known big entertainment plus FAANG plus big communications can easily decide that Emby facilitates piracy and come after them. Their means of distribution in the app stores for all of the supported platforms are in one way or another tied to those companies in the media sphere. So I think Emby has to make a reasonable effort to prevent misuse of their product and be guarded about how this is achieved. Plex likely gets a pass because they've cozied up to big media and who knows what user data they've shared to stay in that "partnership". I wouldn't be surprised if there was a little arm twisting and light extortion in the mix and they caved for the sake of their survival. And as long as Plex continues to play the game they'll stay in big media's good graces. Jellyfin isn't a business so they probably don't have much to worry about. Emby Corp is not entirely off the hook and could be less evasive about the device limit details and retention among other things. I can't claim to know where that line is they don't want to cross.

Thanks i appreciate it, i really hope you guys can do it in the next update potentially

Probably completely irrelevant but I had something similar(ish) last night and I think it was an update to Norton buggering things up. Although if it started back on 27th its even less likely. Oh well, I've typed it now. -
You do know that Emby is used on much more than just TVs, right? Mobile Apps are arguably even more important for Audiobooks.

Setting Up Multiple Media Servers for Different Families at Home
darkassassin07 replied to Nevrion's topic in Linux
I don't think you'd be able to use the same metadata folder for each server. As that folder is populated by the server that owns it, that server builds a database of what exactly is in that metadata folder and where. You can see that just looking at the folder structure that's inside that metadata folder for a running server. The other servers don't have this database/index and aren't going to scan the existing metadata folder to build it. They'll just create new files, likely with a bunch of conflicts with each other, leaving none of them functional. At best you'll just get the same amount of metadata as you would have; but crammed into one folder. No real savings. You can certainly test this though. Fire up a couple test containers and see what happens. Just don't hold your breath... The other issue that comes to mind is adding new media: If you have one server writing nfo files and the rest reading them, you'll have to ensure the primary server is always the first to scan for new media. If any of the 'slave' servers scan first, the nfo files won't exist yet so they may grab different metadata or none at all if metadata fetchers are disabled. -

I understand that. My point is that it doesn't work. I have like 40 years worth of CD collecting that have been ripped into Emby, so there are VAST quantities of music - I could literally listen to music 24/7 for months and never repeat anything. The task of re-tagging everything to conform to Emby's artificial standard would take just this side of forever. Also, if I have: Track number: 1 Album name: My album Track name: My song Artist name: Sally Smith Location: d:/music/MyAlbum/01-my-song.mp3 and Track number: 2 Album name: My album Track name: Other song Artist name: John Doe Location: d:/music/MyAlbum/02-other-song.mp3 and I want to make these into one album in Emby, if I go and change all the artist names to "My album artist" to do so, then I have lost the names of the actual artists and can't search on them. It should be screamingly obvious to a human looking at the files that they belong to one album, but Emby will decide that it's two albums and there is no way to join them. I am proposing that there should be. You are telling me how it is. I understand that. I am proposing that it shouldn't be that way.

Previously collections allowed multiple media types: videos, music videos, music, audio books, books, even video games. It would show one big grid of everything, which I could have grouped (for example) chronologically. This was useful for some collections in which I had movies and music videos and books and video games (sometimes hundreds of items) - and I had some collections with all of them. Also I have some collections with a large amount of content, some of which easily had 80 or 100 items in the list, of varying content types. Recently it changed, and now instead of a grid of multiple types of content, it's a scrolling list of movies (only) and another scrolling list of music videos (only) and nothing else. After laboriously trying to add some appropriate ebooks to collections piece by piece for literal years, they all disappeared. This doesn't make me feel confident that in the future any effort I put into curating my collections will matter instead of just going poof like it already has with books. Also, when there are hundreds of items, the scrolling list instead of the grid is nearly unusable - maybe it's nice for a few dozen, but for a very large quantity it's impossible to get an overview of the content and see how much there is. Proposed solution: put it back, it was better before (or make it selectable as a preference either by collection or for all collections), and never EVER again evict items from collections that I spent time adding. I am kinda salty about that.

Hello, I have an idea and would like to know to what extent this idea can be implemented. In my house, three families live (mine, parents, brother). I know the simplest solution would be to use one server for all (hardware-wise that's also going to happen), but I would like to use one server for each family so that only the respective family members appear on the home screen, only the own family appears in Watch2Gether in Kodi, etc. The idea now is to save storage space for metadata, etc. by using 3 containers. One server scrapes media info, graphics, etc., and the others then use this data. So, if I have NFO files in the movie/series folders and use the meta path (/config/metadata) specified under /librarysetup/advanced for all, would that be sufficient? Are Intro Skip information also stored there, and is it enough for only one server to query this? What else should be considered?

NVIDIA shield and both my TV Hisense app stop loading after closeing.
TXTECHIE replied to TXTECHIE's topic in Android
Address is correct for local and remote both..connection to the server is OK and that's not the problem. i can connect with all other PC and web page too. that "Emby for Android TV 2.1.10g" this is the only app that get stuck on loading after i exit out that app on both devises..its show invalid user or password massage later. this looks like a bug to me . it was working with that app Emby for Android TV a week ago just fine not sure what change. i did also upgrade the server a week ago to 4.8.5.0...NVIDIA shield and both my Google TV Home are the only two devises not working with that one app Emby for Android TV 2.1.10g... it is the app from the play-store is the one that is not working right. i can login once when i first install app just fine. it just not able to log back after i exit out of that Emby for Android TV 2.1.10g. it is stuck on "loading" when i open it and shows wrong user or password. i installed that other Emby Apk side by side and it is working just fine on both devise even after i exit out of the app..but not with that "Emby for Android TV" 2.1.10g . -
I don't see how there's any benefit to doing that, the .js files that are part of the application install aren't zipped either. I doubt that your .js files are that big.

Hi there, have you checked the Album Artist and AlbumArtist embedded metadata on the problem albums? This needs to be the same, for all tracks on the Album, for Emby to recognise a complete Album. There is more info from Emby in the link below (and also elsewhere in the forums). https://emby.media/support/articles/Music-Naming.html An easy way is to use Mp3tag (or similar).
-
Also to add to this, the same movie played fine on the iphone app. So seems like something that could be fixed.
-
@LukeHi Luke, I had this exact issue and found this solution, could I ask is this something that will be fixed, as it seems strange to have a selectable option that break transcoding?

It's possible RIP Old CD with tracks in DTS
pwhodges replied to Pietrogramma's topic in General/Windows
What do you mean by "loses the DTS encoding". A DTS CD is a WAVE stream which actually contains an encoded DTS bitstream; ripping it will produce a WAV file still containing the DTS - playing this using a program which doesn't recognise the DTS encoding will produce just noise - is this what you're getting?
