    Rethink Audiobooks

I think that it would be a good idea if Emby rethinks the way it looks at audiobooks. Currently, it would seem that Emby is treating audiobooks in the same way that it treats music. While I understand the ease of this for the programmers, as they basically just use the same a mp3 player as they would with music. I would argue that audiobooks should be treated more as TV series than albums/cds. 1) With an audiobook divided into chapter each chapter would be treated the same way as an episode in a TV series. With Emby marking each chapter as played or not, and remembering where in the chapter that the user stop listening. For those who don’t have their book broken into chapter Openaudio is a great program for this, and I am sure that there are others. 2) Treating each audiobook as an individual series would allow for a continue listening (instead of watching) row on the main page. 3) It would also make it easier to navigate audiobooks as the audiobooks page would first display the books themselves and not the author. Having the ability to sort by author is nice but not a necessity when looking for a title. 4) With treating audiobooks in this manner, one could also then set up “collections” such as “Harry Potter” or “Sherlock Holmes”. 5) Emby would then get rid of the “shuffle” button on the play menu inside of an audiobook, as this is unnecessary in that you don’t shuffle a books chapters (unless someone really wants a head trip) like you would the tracks on a cd.

    Intros Backup Support Thread

Cheesey Productions brings you Intros Backup for Emby Bringing you a way to Backup/Restore all your IntroSkip and CreditSkip Markers This plugin saves you time after a new install or after refreshing metadata by not having to conduct the process of conducting the intro fingerprint and detection tasks from the core side. Available from the plugin catalogue A huge shout out to @rbjtech and @elpooletfor all their help with this. PLEASE NOTE THAT TINY MEDIA MANAGER CAUSES ISSUES WITH MULTI EPISODE nfo files. I’m currently working to get this fixed but stick to JSON backup option only to ensure your intros are backed up. This plugin works very simply. For BACKUP - The user can Write these markers to JSON files stored in a user specified folder location and/or write directly to the NFO file stored in the Episodes media folder For RESTORE - The user can select to Write information back to episode chapter information markers using either JSON files OR the NFO file setup. BACKUP - takes yout existing markers from the episodes chapter table and will overwrite all previously backed up information. RESTORE will overwrite all currently stored markers and replace them with what is stored in the backup Shortcut in the Server Side Menu Setup your own timing for when to run the backup utility from the Scheduled Task Menu Backup Log Example with Debug enabled Restore Log Example with Debug Enabled Enjoy!! Always a pleasure
  3. I have some automations in home assistant and one of them is one turns the lights off when we are watching a movie, turns on some dimm lights when pause and turns on all lights at stop. So this is the request: A way to recognize the end credits on the movies and to report what chapter is playing to homeassistant. That way an automation can be triggered when the end credits scene is playing, like turn on dimm lights. I'm aware that it appears to be 2 request in one, but really only chapter reporting is the one needed, end credit detection could be a nice to have thing. To do the first is needed to recognize the end credits for the movies, for this the new intro detect feature could be used (i already voted up the FR for end credits detection). But as i said before this feature is not that needed since most of the movies well ripped already have a chapter marker for the credits scene although most of the time they don't have the title "EndCredits" only the time marker for the chapter, but that's easy to fix editing the chapters. However the real feature request here is for emby to report what chapter is playing that could be via a new WebHook event or to make emby to report what chapter is currently playing as an attribute on Home Assistant. Currently there is so much attributes passed on to HomeAssisant so i hope that adding current chapter is not that difficult to add. (i added a little mockup to illustrate what i'm referring to)

    Play MKV with chapters

Hello, Is it possibele to play MKV with chaters? I have my video files create with chapters when I play this files with Emby I can't choose this chapters. It is also not possible to skip to next chapter. When I play this files with VLC player everything works fine.
  5. I set up a music video libary. Normally emby automatically creates some chapters at different time points, for which I don't really care, but now I have a longer Video containing 2 different Bands and tried to set a chapter manually for one band and the other using mkvToolnix. Emby recognizes the 2 chapters, but if I click on the second chapter to start from there, the screen just stays black forever and not even a video toolbar is shown. Using VLC Media Player I can almost instantly jump to the second chapter, so timestamps should work. Is it possible to set up the chapters manually directly in emby? I didn't find that option. Any ideas what I did wrong? Regards
  6. I would like to be able to disable the chapter placeholders on my Shield TV. I have not enabled chapter thumbnails in either my TV or Movie libraries and when I look at a film or episode (before playing), on the server (windows), a windows desktop, tv (Samsung smart tv) or my phone (android) I just see Movie Info Episode Info Cast & Crew More from season ... More Like This Cast & Crew Media Info Media Info However in Emby for Android TV I also have a block of Chapter placeholders - can I / how do I remove these from the film/episode screens?
  7. Quick question that I hope someone can answer: How do you skip chapters when playing a video using the emby app on an Apple TV 4K? Is there some secret double or triple tap on the remote that I'm missing? Info: Apple TV 4K Latest version of emby app installed Using standard Siri Remove that came with the device When viewing movie info, chapter images are shown, and I can select any random chapter to start playing video from that point Video files are stored on NAS as .mkv files I've searched the internet and see people suggesting that you swipe down to see "Info", "Subtitles", "Chapters"... However, when I swipe down I don't see the "Chapters" option. Thanks!

    Enable Chapter Support?

Hello all, Apologies if this has been asked. I did a search in the forum but couldn't find anything and couldn't find anything in online documentation. Point me in the right direction if there is info on this. I'm running: Windows 10 Emby Server Version 3.3.1.0 Access Emby and stream files from Chrome via localhost All files are on the same laptop that I run Emby I just recently started to rip my music DVDs to mp4. I use ffmpeg for all of my processing. I added chapters to these that show up and work in media players such as VLC (playback>chapters and I can advance properly in the progress bar and Next Chapter/Title button). The chapters were added as metadata so they aren't a separate chapter/subtitle stream or separate file. Does Emby support this? Do I have to enable something? I thought I looked through all of the settings options including metadata but didn't see anything. If this is supported will I see them as a visual someplace like VLC (playback>chapters) as well as player controls like VLC's Next Chapter/Title button? If this isn't supported what do I have to do to get chapters to work? I thought I read chapter xml files weren't supported but that might have been awhile ago. Let me know if any other info is needed. Thanks for any help you can provide. Cheers. Karen

    Chapter Search

Hi, I have a bunch of large mp4s and mkvs. I'm planning to add the chapter markers for them using a different tool, but before doing that wanted to confirm if Emby uses the Chapter title for search purposes as well? Thank you!
  10. I'm pretty sure that I saw Emby consuming a movie.chapter.xml file that I put in the same folder as my movie.mkv. But recently, Emby just ignores this chapter.xml file. Does Emby include support for reading chapter.xml files and is it supposed to work? I'm running Emby Server 3.0.5972. My movie.chapter.xml looks like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?> <chapters> <chapter mark="0:00:00" title="A first chapter" thumb="movie-chapter1.jpg"> <plot>Plot of first chapter</plot> </chapter> <chapter mark="0:011:13" title="The Second chapter" thumb="movie-chapter2.jpg"> <plot>Plot of second chapter</plot> </chapter> </chapters>
  11. I just added some new content that is exactly 25 minutes long (possibly a few hundredths less). Default chapter extracts are at every five minutes - but for some reason I got a chapter created at the 25 minute mark - but no image was extracted - the extract failed: 2016-02-06 00:33:41.4790 Error MediaEncoder: ffmpeg image extraction failed for file:"\\KANAME\Video\Anime\Seirei no Moribito\Season 1\Moribito Guardian of the Spirit S01E09 Shuga's Thirst.mkv" 2016-02-06 00:33:41.4790 Error MediaEncoder: I-frame image extraction failed, will attempt standard way. 12. server-63587635200.zip I am on server Version 3.0.5801.0 and I do not have thumbnails on chapters even after "chapter image extraction" succeeds. I am also missing thumbnails on all "specials". I uninstalled, reinstalled the server as well as clearing the cash. Another issue I am having is on the main page where collections are listed it is not showing the backdrops for my concert collection. I have removed and re added using the edit option in the media manager as well as adding the backdrop to the collection folder. I thought this may be related. Wen I try and attach the log file your system states it is to big Pastbin will not except the log ether. I did not have this issue with the log files being to large before. Are they that big now? Ok zipped the log file and it is now attachedserver-63587635200.zip

    Chapter Images in Kodi?

So I just have a little question about chapter images in using emby for kodi. I know that kodi is SUPPOSED to create chapter images as the video loads, but it doesn't whenever I use emby for kodi. But when I play a video just using kodi and not emby for kodi, then it works perfectly. Its not the end of the world if for some reason it can't work, it was just something I noticed and would love to have. I'm running Kodi 15.2 release and the latest release for Emby for Kodi, which I forget the actual release number right now since I'm at work. So any help on this will be greatly appreciated! Also if you haven't noticed, this is also my first post on the forums, so hello!

    Movies missing chapters

Several of my movies appear to be missing chapters. For example, if I skip ahead via chapters, suddenly the movie jumps from maybe the second chapter to the title credits. I noticed that the movie length is correct, however. When the movie plays through, it just ticks off run-time with a blank screen. I am using VOB files with corresponding IFO files in separate folders per movie. Using the skin originated from install. This doesn't happen to all the movies in my library. Also, some of the movies don't even have any running time while playing them, and I am unable to use chapter forwarding. This occurs on both server and client side. Windows 7 server, Windows 8 client. After searching, I found this thread. The suggestion is to re-encode from VOB to MKV. Didn't see if that worked in the thread, but I'll look into that. Also, I think there is a way to create new a new IFO file, which I will try as well. UPDATE I created a new IFO for a problem movie - this didn't make any improvement. I also converted to an MKV file. While it seems the library found the MKV and downloaded/created a poster, the new MKV movie doesn't appear in the library to watch it. I refreshed the library and metadata to no avail. UPDATE 2 And now I found this thread. I guess the VOB files are considered experimental in a browser environment. This is a problem for me. I would spend hours converting all the movies to MKV or something else.
  15. FR 1: Would be nice to have a list of resumable items in Kodi ?? I believe all Emby clients have this option, but I can't find any way of viewing just resumable items in Kodi. FR 2: Will chapter support be coming to the addon soon ?? This will enable starting items from a particular point, as most Emby clients do. Perhaps these are both skin related options, but I'm not sure if they are already available in Kodi or not. Perhaps something that should be included in an Emby Skin for Kodi. Thanks.

    Refresh the Chapter DB

I updated some chapter names in a few MP4's, how do I get the new chapter names to show up in the Web client or MBC? Problem solved. somehow the chapters names were not refreshed inside the MP4. After updating the chapter names inside the MP4 correctly. Chapter names were refreshed during the library scan!
  17. I seem to not be getting chapter images from my ISO Bluray 1:1 copies. Or is this a limitation of ISO. If so how do others keep a complete 1:1 copy of the bluray? I tried BDMV folder but TMT6 doesn't play ball nicely.

  20. Chapter image extraction is a great feature and works on most of my MKV files. However, I have a bunch of MKVs in my Movie library on which chapter image extraction fails. There are a number of reasons why this might occur, including the case where some chapter markers are beyond the end (or right at the end) of a video file. I have already fixed those in my library. However, I still have other MKV files on which chapter image extraction fails and I haven’t been able to determine the root cause (~100 MKV files). I decided to look through the MediaBrowser server code to see what ffmpeg command is used to generate the images. After stitching together the various pieces of the command, I ran it from the command line in both Windows 7 and OS X Mavericks. The command I issued from the Windows command line is below: C:\Program Files\ffmpeg\bin>ffmpeg.exe -ss 260 -i “\\Media\Movies\Moon (2009)\Moon (2009).mkv" -threads 0 -vframes 1 -vf "thumbnail,crop=min(iw\,ih*dar):min(ih\,iw/dar):(iw-min(iw\,iw*sar))/2:(ih - min(ih\,ih/sar))/2,scale=600:600/dar" -f image2 "C:\Users\HTPC\Desktop\tmp.jpg" Oddly enough, the command works fine when I run it from the command line. However, it still fails when run behind the scenes by MediaBrowser3 on the same video file. Would it be possible for a future release of MediaBrowser3 server to log the exact command passed to ffmpeg and the output of ffmpeg for any file that fails chapter image extraction? Currently, the log file simply reports that chapter image extraction failed (first using the i-frame method and subsequently using the standard method). Logging ffmpegs output would really help in determining why image extraction seems to work when I run it manually, but not when MediaBrowser3 runs the command. Final notes: I am running the latest beta release of MB3. I am running the latest version of ffmpeg [build Version: git-785dc14 (2014-01-15)] MKV files were all generated using MakeMKV and run through mkvmerge. ALL MKV files that have chapter image extraction issues in MediaBrowser3 seem to have been processed with mkvmerge v5.0.0 or earlier. Of course, remember that I can successfully extract chapter images from these very same MKVs when running ffmpeg manually.
