Hi, did you login via SSH and go root to determine if the old version was still present?

Do you have a volume2 on your system?

Yes. All the other folders were there, Emby wasn't.

Nope.

It's all sorted now, I spent yesterday recreating most of my collections and I still had the custom images I used for some of them backed up elsewhere. I had to fix a few films with the wrong metadata but that's my fault for not putting the year in the filename.

Maybe the wrong place, but i have a problem.

Upgrade to DSM 7 went well. Movies etc. are played.

But after upgrading, the Plugin "Auto-Organize" didn´t work.

The Acces is denied for the folders. The internal system User "Emby" has read/write permissions for those folders.

Any Idea what´s the problem ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, you would likely need to take a look at your setup to see what paths are being used.

Post you server log and we can take a look at that for you.

The log does show access denied to Access to the path '/volume1/Serien/Jerks/Season 4/ folder when trying to move a file.

That would indicate a permission problem of some type.

Have you checked to see what ownership is for the folders?

Owner is "admin", but this user is deactivated.

Group is "users".

Switching the ownership to another user which is also admin, didn't solve the problem.

The internal system user  "emby" also have read/write permission.

Emby could play/"read" movies and series while using native paths.

I don't understand why emby could read the files in these folders and on the other side emby couldn't write in these folders.

I am not using the Emby server on my DS2415+ as my experience with performance was not that good.

I have the impression that the 2415+ Atom chip is has not enough power.

I have my Emby Server running on an Intel NUC with gen 10 I7 chip.

How do I proceed to keep all my settings and db in order to migrate to DSM7.0?

Hi Luke

Yes, I did, however, I did not my the correct answer to my specific question.

I do not use Synology Emby Server, I use a Intel Nuc Based emby server where all the movies are stored on my Syno NAS. (DS2415+). I just want to be sure that If I update to latest Emby (windows server) and migrate to DSM 7.0, that I have no issues. It is not exactly the same setup that is described with the Emby server on DSM. Anyone can make a comment on my specific question?

Thank you so much.

Stay healthy

Cheers, Lati

If you're not running Emby Server on Synology none of this applies to you.  If running on Windows you just need to make sure to setup shares pointed to the correct location on the Synology.  For you there is likely nothing what-so-ever needed to upgrade to DSM7 as all shares should still be the same after the upgrade.

In File Station navigate to the location containing Serien/Jerks/Season 4/

Right click on this folder then click permissions.
Click the permission tab.

Take a screenshot and post it.  Don't change anything.

Oh, there are two options "write" not activated?!

The folder above "jerks" has all options enabled.

I didn't change that. Maybe it was automatically changed during upgrade to dsm 7?!

I think I should activate the write permissions for all folders for groups and others?

Don't really know what that says as it's not in English but this looks like DSM 6 and we're in a DSM 7 thread.
Are you running DSM6?

But your issues looks like permissions for sure.

Go back to the parent folder for TV and set that properly and click that bottom box to apply to this folder and everything under it.

Yes, I'm running DSM7.

With DSM6 I didn't have that permissions problems.

Will try to set the permissions vor each folder und check the box within the permissions.

Will report in a while if it solve the problems.

Edit: Problem solved. I've done two things: unmark the "read/write" permission for system internal user emby, safe, mark the permission again and safe.

Second thing is the way I wrote above.

Didn't know which one solved the problem, but now auto organize works.

Many thanks.

Will try with other series if it works.

Otherwise I had to set the permissions for each series folder.

Don't set at the folder level but at the parent folder. Chances are you have all movies under a "Movies" folder and all TV shows under a "TV Shows folder.

It the parent folder all the way up the disc tree you want to adjust. When you apply the settings there is a check box to apply the settings to everything under it.

If you can't get it working send me a PM and we can do a remote support session to help you.

I've run into similar issues as others on here - waited 4 months after DSM 7 was out/stable before upgrading. Upgraded DSM... and then realized Emby (which was already at 4.6.4) was no longer working, so clicked the Repair button in Package Manager and no dice.

My Emby files were never located in /volume1/Emby - unless using the Repair button moved them. There is no such directory on my system. However, I have looked and they all appear to reside in /volume1/@appdata/EmbyServer as they would after the manual copy via SSH.

I found this thread after I realized Emby wasn't working.

What I then did was uninstall the old Emby 4.6.4, reinstall the 4.6.4 DSM 7 package, delete the Emby_PKG user* per the instructions, ran the chown command, and added the emby System Internal User to the single shared folder (Media) where all my media lives.

*I never had a video group - so there was nothing to delete there

do see both the -WAL and -SHM files in there, but the file sizes are much larger than the DB files, so I'm hesitant to delete them:

When I start the application, I get the setup screen - not the login screen:

image.png.55a9a749d5439d010c3bb61c23966df1.png

I uninstalled and reinstalled Emby and and re-ran through all the steps and it's still not working.

Would appreciate any ideas/assistance here!

Hi, if you shut down Emby Server the wal and shm files should disappear.  If not you can delete them.

Your DSM 6 version of Emby could be installed on a different volume.  /volume1/Emby is just the default.

If you like send me a PM and I can remote in and take a look. If we can find you old install, we can migrate all the data over for you.

I ran a search on my NAS and the only place it found library.db in the entire system is in /volume1/@appdata/EmbyServer.

The wal/shm files didn't disappear after the shutdown but I did delete them (well, moved them to a different folder elsewhere just in case) manually. Then I completely restarted the NAS.

Still brings up the getting started / setup screen.

In case this context helps - long ago I started as a Media Browser user with the server living on a Windows PC; I migrated the server to the NAS circa 2017, and it's remained there ever since. The NAS was running DSM 6 from the start, as far as I can remember

Had to migrate to DSM7 today as sonarr wasn’t functioning correctly anymore. Thought now is as good as anytime to do this. I have plex and Emby servers running on my 918. I had everything backed up and have followed the pre dsm install instructions for both. I thought Emby would be the big pain as I haven’t used putty in many years. I followed the plex install to the letter and could not get it to pick up the old folder data into the new. Finally I threw my hands up and just rebuilt all by hand.
Then came my dread…Emby migration. Well from start to finish I think I was at 30 minutes and all was well.

Cayars….thanks so much for that short video on the first post!! It sure made life easy and putty wasn’t so bad after all.

Again, a most hearty thank you for making this work.
