New Bond teaser trailer is out for Spectre and I am really, really stoked for this now.

https://youtu.be/GvQJbF2CXLQ

Here's why....

I really enjoyed Casino Royale, and loved that they followed it up with Quantum of Solace... In fact QoS literally begins where CR ends.  Sadly people didn't get this, they didn't realise that this was going to be a trilogy of Bond movies and QoS was the middle film.  Now this wasn't explicitly stated or publicised by the film makers and I think some people didn't know, others didn't get it and others simply hated the idea.  But I still maintain that QoS is a good movie.

So fast forward to Skyfall... and back to a stand alone Bond movie, and a cracking one at that. Bond at his best, the film was a beautiful piece of work and possibly the best Bond movie ever made.

So then I hear they're making the new one, and it's called Spectre... and over on G+ I've had discussions with other film buffs about Bond... and I said it was a shame that they dropped the trilogy idea due to the backlash over QoS... I also commented that I found it ironic that they do two movies of a trilogy and are now following Skyfall with a follow on film that sets up an organisation very much like Quantum... and how I wished that they had just followed the original plan.

So imagine my surprise... when I see the trailer... and for those who have not seen the teaser trailer, go and watch it now then come back and read the rest of this post.

The thin guy with the beard in the trailer... is MR WHITE from Quantum of Solace... I nearly fell of my stool when I realised it (had to watch it twice to be sure).

So you know what this means....  Quantum evolves into Spectre... they are continuing the motherfucking story... Only it's not a trilogy, it's a Quadrilogy (for now)... and I was right, I got my wish.

I am so fucking happy now... I really cannot wait to see this movie.

tl:dr - Just read it already fuckwits.  :)

Personally I never liked SkyFall. I thought it was the worst Bond movie of the lot.

Spectre looks interesting, especially if it follows on from Casino Royale and QoS, which I thought were both very good.

Wait, you thought QoS was good?! I must admit, you don't see that said very often :)

I have been meaning to re-watch the last 3 bonds. I think I have only seen QoS once. I just need to force myself through it again to see if I missed anything.

I just finished Glengarry Glen Ross last night. Had never seen it. Some great individual performances in that. Really liked Jack Lemon's performance, had never seen him act.

Another really great movie with Jack Lemmon is The Oddparents. He and Walter Matthau. Pretty darn funny. :)

OK, finally got round to seeing all of Interstellar.

So, what's all the fuss over the last 5 minutes then?

It could've done with a better ending, as it just got sentimental.

Or is that what you all mean?

You mean The Odd Couple, right?

My favorite Jack Lemmon film is The Out of Towners ... funny as all get out!

Wow, you were really depriving yourself.  That's one of the best dialog movies ever.

Now go watch "Diner"...

Anyone catch John Wick? Don't let Keanu Reeves put you off this gritty, action packed revenge flick. I think growing older looks good on Reeves and he isn't as annoying as he can be in a more serious role because of his limited acting skills. This one is a perfect vehicle for him as a loner of few words. If you like revenge flicks this one might be right up your alley. Great fight scenes and thrills watching the bad guys getting their butts kicked. Those of you who follow Game of Thrones will recognize Alfie Allen as the spoiled and psychopathic son of the mob kingpin and one if Wick's main antagonists.

My Rating: 7.5

IMDB Rating: 7.2

While I thought Casino Royale was one of the better Bond scripts in a very long time, I never was able to get behind Craig as Bond in that film. He did a fine job of acting, I just never felt like I was "watching Bond". That said, it's still probably one of my five favourite Bond films, based on script and acting alone. Then the did QoS. I understood it was a sequel and would have issues being the middle part of a planned trilogy, making it tough for the movie to stand on its own. Given the set-up for it at the end of CR, I was expecting something more. CR wound up being one of the weaker Bond installments in my opinion, and I began to wonder if the might not have finall just milked that franchise dry and were going to have to limp across the finish line to put out one more title.

Then we got Skyfall. A lot of people didn't like that film because it doesn't fit in with any of the others, not really. However, it wasn't really intended to blend in too tightly. It was an unapologetic homage to 50 years of Bond, looking for ways to incorporate as many tips of the cap as possible. When watching it with that expectation, I was actually rather pleased with the film. There were still things I was quite disappointed with. The theme song, despite Adele, was a miss. The "on location" shooting, a hallmark of most Bond films, was less than inspiring. Sure, he went globe-trotting. But all we saw was the inside of a few nonsensical buildings and little else. Where CR excelled by creating action on the screen through tense situations and dialogue, Skyfall skipped those parts and just gave more generic spy film action. Where the older Bond films could be groaned at for relying too heavily on the gadgets to sell the film (here's looking at you Die Another Day), this film was equally groan-worthy in the way that Bond and his compatriots were able to get themselves out of trouble using mundane items in much the same way that the gadgets would usually have been employed. At least the gadgets gave a "plausible" solution for such overwhelming success.

What I enjoyed though were the acknowledgements of the past films, and that the character writing had once again improved beyond the hot mess of QoS.

Now we are getting Spectre. Except that this new film looks from the previews to be a direct sequel to Skyfall with story from QoS mixed in. I'm not sure I care for that. Standalone films should generally be left as such. I'm also a bit leery about what appears to be a very tired cliche quite possibly making its way into the story, but I'll reserve judgement on that until I actually see the film. After all, it's not like trailers are ever misleading or anything.

I almost did skip on John Wick, largely because of Reeves. I'm glad I didn't. For a straight action flick, it was entirely enjoyable.

It's funny how everyone is discussing John Wick as it's not even in the cinemas here in the UK until 10th April :)

Must remember to watch it tonight :D

I really enjoyed it, was nice to see a decent film of his again. Chain Reaction was one of my older favorites of his.

Not really a spoiler, but..

Found it really entertaining he specifically goes back to do headshots on EVERY person, I swear every scene hes turning around to shoot the guy he already shot in the head :P

Yeah, he certainly dispatches with extreme prejudice! I need another revenge film to watch. I've watched both Taken 1 & 2 and I'm tempted to watch Taken 3 tonight. Though I have heard disparaging words here and elsewhere,

Anybody watch Viggo Mortensen in Eastern Promises? That's a good one if I recall. More of a defending the not-so-innocent but I definitely could watch it again...

I really enjoyed Eastern Promises. As for revenge films, just about anything with Jason Statham or Steven Segal will wind up being some sort of revenge flick it seems. Replacement Killers is a good pseudo-revenge flick as well. For something on the modern side though, the revenge film genre has been rather weak IMHO. Though not a revenge film, Prisoners starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal has a very similar vibe and an awesome ending.

I neglected, though thought about Statham's films while posting , they have the requisite ingredients of action, violence, suspense, and thrills... Revolver, Transporter(s), Crank(s) immediately come to mind. I'm a total Jason Statham fan.

For me, the same can't be said for Segal... period. Not even in the same ballpark. He has this vacuous look in his eyes like he has had too many kicks to the head and his acting does nothing to refute that impression.

I believe it originally had a january release date for the uk, but it got pushed back for some reason. A release date 6 months after it came out in the states is a pretty poor showing in all honesty. It's stupid that you can get the bluray from the states already before it comes out over here, which I could do, then not go to the cinema, but my not going to the cinema to watch the film would be attributed to piracy, because everything it caused by piracy, not by stupid decisions by the film distributors.

*sigh*
