.SRT subtitles work fine most of the time (although they still don't respect the system subtitle settings) but they become unusably large when there are formatting tags, like <i> for italics. For example, here are some subtitles from season 4 episode 1 of Paw Patrol: 209 00:10:10,043 --> 00:10:12,010 (Kitty and sheep yelping) 210 00:10:12,012 --> 00:10:14,145 <i> Marshall, Rubble, Rocky, Zuma</i>! And here's how line 210 looks on screen: The exclamation point at the end, outside the <i> tags, is the normal text size. If a fix for this is possible that would be awesome. Thanks!

Hey, it'd be great if displaying the bottom on-screen display (OSD, e.g. when moving the mouse) pushed up subtitles such that they are not behind the OSD. That's all

Hi. I have another subtitle related request. There is an option to choose which available subtitle to use (if any) before starting a movie. It would be very nice to be able to change this choice while in movie. I often have multiple subtitles and discover after starting a movie that the one chosen is no good. Currently I have to stop the movie, change subtitle and start it again. The second best option here would be if it at least would be possible to just turn subtitles on or off while in movie. On my LG TV there's a SUBTITLE button that currently does nothing when pressed, it would be the natural choice for these functions. Oh, and apologies if I'm suggesting things that are already there. Haven't found them when searching :-) /Daniel

Not a big issue but recently I got to see a TV series with the help of subtitles. Upon ending of one episode, Emby would correctly play next one but, though subtitles for every episode were the same (media had 3 embedded and one external subtitle), I had to re-select the correct one every time a new episode would start. Could Emby preserve subtitle selection from one episode to another?

Hello I finally got my Emby Server up running on Windows Server 2012, but I have a problem with streaming movies and series with subtitles. I stream my content via Chromecast (3rd genereation), but movies and series will only play, if I turn the subtitles off, otherwise I will just get a black TV screen. The subtitles are already incorporated in the MKV files, and also the media are not transcoded, when the subtitles are off. Best Regards

I have my TV shows set up as follows: Show Name > Season X (Year) > S01E01 - Episode Title.mkv When Emby automatically downloads subtitles, I often get the wrong episode's subtitles(or sometimes even a different show) One example after I deleted the SRT files, as well as the subtitles directory in /data then rebooted, is as follows: Gets the correct subtitles Gets the same subtitles as S01E01 Gets the correct subtitles What would be causing this? I've also had instances where some episodes of the TV show Chuck got subtitles for an episode of Arrow. Is the TV show name as a parent folder not good enough? do I actually have to add the show to each filename? and even if that is the case, why would episode 2 get episode 1's subtitles?

Subtitles: What is the criteria used to download missing subtitles ??
CBers posted a topic in General/Windows
What is the criteria to download missing subtitles ?? I have several old series and movies that Emby hasn't downloaded the subtitles for. If I manually search for the subtitles, using the Edit Subtitles option, they are found. So, is there any criteria/age limit on when an item has been added to Emby, after which subtitles are no longer searched for ?? Thanks. -
Blank subtitle file when converting media with embedded subtitles
K22R8CT posted a topic in General/Windows
I think I've found a bug in Sync/Convert. When converting media with embedded subtitles: If the user who created the convert job has their playback preference set to Always Play Subtitles The process works properly extracting a valid vtt file. If the user who created the convert job has their playback preference set to Only Forced Subtitles (and I bet anything that in that particular instance wouldn't trigger subtitle display): The process creates a blank vtt file. I've worked around this by creating a dedicated user with Always Play Subtitles, then logging in as that user just to create convert jobs. -

Hi @@Luke, I have a problem with subtitles which can't be show anymore after to pause the episode, leave the tab (2 hours after) and try to open it again just after in chrome. I already try with and without encode subtitles on the fly. I uncheck for the moment this option and it's always bug so it's not the problem. I tried to turn off subtitle. Leave and open again the emby tab, start an episode, select my subtitles but same problem Every users on my emby server get the same issue. We're using Chrome browser. With Kodi (emby plugin) no issue. If you need info, I will try to send you even if I don't see anything wrong in the logs... I will try to give you the way to reproduce it: 1) Open chrome, embyweb and load a 1080p Multi file in mkv (it's my case, but I don't think the quality is really important). 2) look it for example, half of the episode. Click on pause. Lets the episode and the tab open on chrome. 2 hours in my case. (I think THIS is important, and let's the episode in the browser will create the issue after) BTW: I don't know if it's normal and link but when I look the admin dashboard, I can see during this 2 hours, the red line (throttle) increases little by little like 0.1% every 10 seconds, so after 1h30, the line is complete ... Not sure it's a normal behavior, anyway. 3) You click on play button, everything is fine, I look 5min like that, I get my subtitles, I'm happy 4) I close the emby tab, in other words, the episode that i watched 5) THE PROBLEM I open again embyweb, try to click on "continue" the episode. It starts from 27min. It's perfect BUT no subtitle at all. If I try to start again from the begin, I get subtitles on the first seconds, if I skip 2min, 30min ect, no subtitle ever . So I try to look 5min without skip anything from the begin and after 2min36, subtitles desapears... and I don't get it anymore. It's crazy I never get this problem with old version. Thank you in advance to fix this new issue Regards

Hello, I am new to Emby, and so far everything seems awesome, with the exception that on Tizen OS the Emby app is not loading subtitles at all. My Setup: TV: UE43KU6072 Tizen OS version: 1240 (Tizen says this is the newest version even after a manual check) NAS: Synology (DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 3) Emby server version: 4.2.1.0 Emby client for TizenOS versions tested: from SmartHub: version: 1.0.62 released on: July 18 2019 (according to the store) from Github: Commit: 160756d43ddb7bfebf32a728bffde83766278000 (latest one at the time of writing) Played media: container: MP4 video codec: x264 audio codec: aac subtitles: external (.srt) & the same subtitles embedded as MOV_TEXT Expected behaviour: To be able to play the movie on the Emby TizenOS client app with subtitles, just as I am able to play it from the Android, IOS and Web clients. Actual behaviour: The subtitles are selected, but no subtitles are shown during playback. What I tried: Sideloading the latest version of the client app Completely disabling the transcoding permissions for the user signed in the TizenOS client app. Enabling the transcoding and transcoding the media to a lower quality Checking the "embyserver.txt" log for errors - did not find anything out of the ordinary. P.S. I can PM the embyserver.txt log.

I have a Tizen TV with latest firmware. I had installed the USB version of Emby Theater (1.0.62), and just now upgraded to the latest (the TV won't tell me the new version!), but there is still a problem with media that has embedded closed captions. The closed captions are always being displayed on the TV, even after turning subtitles/cc off. If I turn on subtitles/cc inside Emby, I get new subtitles (created by Emby) and also the embedded cc subtitles. When playing the media on the web interface, they do *not* appear. The PC version of Theater also does not show them. Only the TV! Info: Samsung UN65RU8000FXZA FLAT 65'' 4K UHD 8 Series Smart TV (2019) 65" TV details: MN : UN65RU8000FXZA PD : --/--/---- SN : 08953CCM303711T FW : T-MSMAKUC-1065.0 FC : SWU-OU_T-MSMAKUC_1065_190416 MI : T-MSMAKUC LS : US DI : BDCD36PSYNY6A MA : 24FCE5505C0C SC : 10101_AC1_Z_Z Emby Server 4.2.1.0 The only web media info I found was "stats for nerds", and I posted the screen cap here. Using VLC, you can see the embedded subtitles and closed captions in a screen cap. Also, I have a screen cap of what the embedded cc looks like in VLC. Edit: The app version is 1.0.64. I attached the media info screen cap from the web interface. Also, I tried turning off subtitles when watching the video by navigating to the CC dialog and selecting no subtitles. "No subtitles" is also selected on the screen for the show where Resume/Play from beginning shows. Edit: It just occurred to me that I could use my phone to take a photo of the tv screen for any useful information, if anyone wants it. Edit: Added photos of tv. The photos showing subtitles are the *embedded* closed captions. Added the emby server logs. Edit: Added screen cap of vlc media info, showing Stream 6 is where the unwanted subtitles are coming from. emby-logs.txt emby-logs2.txt

Hello, I'm wondering how I can use Emby's automatic downloading for one specific show. I had this tv series added to emby in the past, it had embedded subtitles at the time. I recently added higher quality versions of the same show, getting rid of the older files with embedded subtitles. But now after running the subtitles automatic task and manually telling the library to replace all metadata it isn't downloading the subtitles. I can do the manual search per episode and it finds them just fine. I have the VIP option with opensubtitles so I don't think I'm hitting the cap, and I glanced through the server logs and found plenty of "POST https://vip-api.opensubtitles.org/xml-rpc"entries without any errors. Along with a few entries where it successfully grabbed a couple of subtitles for some other items in my library. I'm wondering if I am just going to need to completely remove the item from my library, let emby realize it's gone, and then add it back in.

Hi, I'm currently having an issue with Emby displaying the incorrect subtitles/format when viewing anime specifically. No clue if it also happens to my movies as of yet. I have three Roku 4 Ultras and one Roku TCL 4k TV. They all exhibit the same issue. The subtitles will play but they're ugly standard subs, not the internal subtitles. Web player in Emby shows the correct subtitles but the Roku's do not. Plex does show the correct subtitles as well. I'm aware of possible previous problems involving the Roku and Emby in the past. This one thread https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/33554-firmware-71/?hl=%2Banime+%2Bsubtitles+%2Broku here seems like it was a fixed issue needing no special settings. I'm new to Emby and coming from Plex. Currently test driving it and seeing if it will be permanent as I find many of the features and the UI to be superior atm. My thoughts are that this is a user settings issue where I have something set up incorrectly. I would appreciate it if someone could possibly correct any mistakes I've made. Included are screenshots relevant to my issue. The first two screens are what it should look like. Two latter are what I'm getting. Fifth one is my Roku setting for CC. Sixth is of my playback Emby settings. Seventh is something that I think was on by default that may or may not be a problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi! I have installed the emby server on my Windows 10 computer. I have also installed the emby app v2.2.4 on my Samsung-TV from 2014 (UE46F8000) using Orsay OS. Everything works brilliantly except for one very annoying thing: No subtitles are shown in the movies. I have played with the server subtitles settings, but it does not seem to matter whatever settings I choose. Subtitles are not shown on my TV, period. If I play back the movies on my Windows PC where the server is run, I can select the subtitle language and subtitles are shown during playback. The subtitles are part of each .MKV media file. Is there a subtitle issue with emby app v2.2.4 for Samsung Orsay TV:s? Please help.

Hi, I've encountered some problems while downloading media to watch offline (with Emby from the Windows Store, as the regular desktop version doesn't have this feature): 1. External subtitles don't download, which makes this feature for me useless: 1.1: I have set my preferred subtitle language in the settings, and always play subtitles. 2. No feedback about current downloads: 2.1: When clicking download, you have to dig in the settings to view the downloaded items. Maybe display them, and the download progress, under "My Downloads" on the home screen? If not, maybe a faster way to see all downloaded / downloading files using a cog wheel next to "My Downloads", like in the android app. 2.2: The download status goes from "transferring 0%" to "Downloaded". There is no download progress in percentage. 3. The "My Downloads" item on the start screen doesn't refresh when media is downloaded / deleted: Downloaded files show up after a restart of the app Deleted files are gone after a restart of the app Number 1 is important to me, 2 and 3 are a mere cosmetic features. Thanks! Jelle

I used a Roku Premiere and some other Roku which could only do 1080p which wasn't very good. I was using nvdia shield tv as the server with emby beta server 4.1.0.22. Just want to report the Roku Premiere handled 4K content good as long as the movie was under 12GB or so. 20GB and 25GB file size (forgot the bitrate) then it'd stutter. Roku can't do double byte subtitle decoding which means no Japanese, Chinese, Korean etc. That's a limitation for some. Anyway I'm gonna stick with nvidia shield for all my clients it looks like.

Hi everyone, I am a recent Emby user, I have configured Emby Server on windows, with a library containing movies, series, animes. Then, on my android TV (philips), I use the emby application to connect to my emby server. I have a problem when I want to choose subtitles for my series: the choice of audio and subtitles is grayed out for the series, while I have added the subtitle files to the associated video directory. For films, I don't have this problem. In the only subtitle configuration settings I found, I activated everything available for displaying and selecting subtitles. Do you have a solution for me? Please excuse me if my post is repetitive with respect to an existing post. Thank you very much, Alesk_andr
