Actually, the server shouldn't transcode video at all, only audio if the transcode settings are correct. two options, transcode by bandwith (100 / 1000) should never trigger the transcoding and second. transcode by containerformat. That's the one you shoudl enable (for audio only). Check Emby servers dashboard to see what's happening.

Smart playlists. For audio transcoding, though (I've to use an optical audio cable), I let the Emby server do that, as the audio is still louder using Emby.

I have the same problem with this movie and with rebel moon part2. I can play for a few minutes and then the image freezes. Yes, it does when subtitles are muxed into mkv file and fonts are added as attachment. But when subtitles files are external with embedded fonts, it does not.

Yes, that's what I did initially. By switching from aac (the default) to ac3 I get the 5.1 sound. Apparently, the reason's the hardware: optical audio cables can only deal with two channels of uncompressed audio. To get more than those channels, the audio has to be compressed, or like ac3. I only realized this after I saw the setting in the Emby Android app, and realized that I could do the same for the Emby addon. Later, I was told about the hardware limitations, and then also found out that Kodi itself can transcode on the fly, but to do that you have to set the Kodi audio to default settings, which is 2.0. Then turn on passthrough, and you'll see the option to transcode to ac3. Activate that. However, I notice that when I do audio transcoding through Emby, the video would sometimes freeze after around 15 min. I have to stop playback and then resume. I don't know if setting the bandwith limit for video to 1000 Mbps will help (the default's 100). I'll report what I experience. For now, AFAIK, the server should be powerful enough to do transcoding (it's an old i5 but with 16 GB RAM, SSD, etc.) and connections are gigabit (e.g., 400 Mbps DL/UL speed test in the Android TV box). And the problem doesn't happen if I don't transcode.

My apologies, yes, I overlooked that help text. Yes, the scan media folder option is clear now; it will look for new content only - which is great. However, the 'download subtitles' help text is not that clear. Can you elaborate on that? Let's say I have 1200 episodes with subtitles. I'm adding 200 new episodes. What will happen during the subtitle task? Will it look for all 1400 episodes from the beginning or will it only check for the latest 200 and ignore my old episodes with subtitles?

This help text needs to be improved, but it does the automatic subtitle downloading if you have enabled it for your libraries.

Scan media library Download subtitles I'm planning to set a minimal interval here so that I will have updated content, but if I set this to every 15 minutes or so, will it cause server load or streaming issues? Assuming I have 1200 episodes across various series, every 15 minutes, will it scan the library and check for subtitles for already existing files, or will it intelligently ignore the existing files and subtitles and only look for new files/subtitles? Is there a way to disable pin prompt for a user on a device? There's the initial prompt when you first login on a device asking about requesting pin each time. It's getting a bit tedious, I'm wanting to disable it but can't see an option to do so. This is android tv latest version, with emby premier server. Is there a way to disable it? Thanks

OK, it sounds like the mp3's have different embedded metadata than the m4a's. I would check on that.
