Wait... There are 2 Album Artist tags : "Album Artist" and "ALBUM ARTIST" ! Album Artist is conform to what I see everywhere. Issue is on ALBUM ARTIST which seems to be used by Emby.

ALBUM ARTIST is ID3V1 tag ? or something else very new I cant access with my old tag software ?

All I can say would be clearing existing tags and retagging the item, unless there is a program that covers all different variable fields.  I honest don't know how all the different tags are written or the priority of same name tags.

Album Artist

Album_Artist

AlbumArtist

@Lukewhat is the tag priority when these tags are actually mismatched in this case?

Anyway, Emby seems to use ALBUM ARTIST and I don't think that this is correct to my experience with all other software. It should use "Album Artist" tag.

And I think that this is the reason of other people's issue,  complaining of same problem and claiming that their tags are correct.

Does it perhaps use the newest ID3V tag perhaps.  IE ID3V1 over ID3V1?

I could be wrong but don't believe the case has anything to do with this.  As yours is Album_Artist vs Album Artist.

That is all I can think of and the only way to correct would clearing tags and retagging that I know of.

Yes, I should have written Album_Artist in my previous message. Same logic anyway.

Last confirmation with ffprobe OK Albums have no "ALBUM ARTIST" tags

Only @Lukecan say the priority logic used when there are multiple variable of the same tag, and in your case different values in these fields.

And what does Emby show for this item?

Emby show group all tracks with this exact info.  As it groups by same name Album Artist/Album.

Emby is grouping all track into one album. It was the OK example used in firsts screenshots.

Let's wait for Luke's answer but I'm pretty sure that the ALBUM ARTIST is not genuine. Looks like an ITUNE trick.

I don't even know how to edit it, it is invisible to all my mp3 softwares... And I don't manage to clear it. When I try to clear all, all the 'capital letters Tags' are kept...

You can see that cleraring all is making a mess in those tricky tags, like seen one some files in previous examples...

Anyway thank you guys for helping me to understand this issue.

Some discussion here as there are multiple variable depending on the tagging tool used.

AlbumArtist or Album Artist? Which tag does MB use? - General/Windows - Emby Community

But all of mine are Album_Artist tagged by mp3tag or Picard that I have checked looking for examples, but will keep looking.

OK I will try that. Thank you very much.

But in my opinion Emby should behave like other softwares, especially those most widely diffused like windows explorer, windows media player, groove music (yes, like most people, I'm on windows...). Otherwise people (not me, now I have the solution), will continue to have problem and continue to complain.
I hope Luke want to/can fix it.

But everyone uses different software and that software does not tag the same way.  So there will always have to be a priority order.

Sure. But Emby cannot work a way that no other players do. Like using that ARTIST ALBUM tag which is ignored by Windows, which is quite a standard...

Actually it would be interesting to know what SW is using it. Maybe Itunes.

There is also a conflict of what the tag software actually shows.

mp3tag shows ALBUM ARTIST and ALBUMARTIST

image.png.bab76e3080dc582999ed285b8e1676d5.png

picard shows Album Artist and ALBUM ARTIST

image.png.3543dcc3d269d4e3cb251e52f46700b2.png

FFPROBE shows album_artist and ALBUM ARTIST

image.png.b4a02f8fa546e452af40e5b26d4c842e.png

So "Various Artist" is shown as ALBUMARTIST, Album Artist, and album_artist in three different program supposedly showing the same field.

But all three show "Ed Sheeran" in ALBUM ARTIST.

So what is the true Album Artist field?   To me this is still subjective, if multiple same tags exist there is a tagging issue to me.  But I am just a user not the dev.

The id3 tag values are not stored under those descriptive strings that you see in a tag editor. The values are stored under fields with a special id, for example TPE2 is used for "Band/Orchestra/Accompaniment", or better known as "album artist". It's up to the software to give that id a meaningful name. And unfortunately every software does it different.

Hi Luke,

My problem is solved, sure, thanks to Happy2play mostly, by erasing the unwanted tag. But I'm pretty sure that the tag priority in emby is wrong.

Common tag (TPE2) has less priority than that strange custom like tag (no idea where it was stored in the metadatas) that was used on some of my albums.
