I did..heh.. Its on the roku store with the normal blue neon link. This includes music fixes in regard to favorites, and some fixes I did hopefully to make the roku4 happy. So run the normal app first, and if still issues om your roku4 we will start with test versions. So let me know if the normal app now works on your roku4 please :)

Okay.. Is it possible you can enable developer mode on your roku4?

 

On the roku homescreen, showing all your apps, press these buttons:

HOME x 3

UP x 2

RIGHT x 1

LEFT x 1

RIGHT x 1

LEFT x 1

RIGHT x 1

 

If done correctly, you should arrive at the developer welcome screen.

This explains how to sideload on a nowTV the good part is, the roku is identical to this method.

 

Rather than use the zip-file shown there, use this one:

This will allow you to do live debugging on the application. This should throw out the error clearly to us and speed this up.

 

You need to use a web browser and go to the local ip of your roku. My roku has an internal IP of 192.168.1.239. So I type 192.168.1.239:8085 into the web browser and launch the app you just sideloaded. It will be the very last app in your list.

 

Now when using the app you will notice there is text outputting in the browser window attached to the roku. When the app crashes it will show exactly why it crashed. If you can paste that here I can see clearly what is wrong.

 

It is weird it only crashes the roku4. This is why I ask for you to do all the above. Otherwise we are shooting at fish in a barrel and I can't know which fish to shoot.

Updated the private link, and yes, you can delete the development application. It doesnt hurt the roku to stay in development mode. To disable it though, repeat the steps to enable it and choose no. This should lock it back out.

The long version:

Ac3 has to transcode yes, if using PRIVATE which forces auto. Private wont work in any other mode. Otherwise you may force direct-stream and get no sound. So i added the limitation when using the private listening mode aka "private". Headphones only allow stereo. This is why it acts like this.

 

Ac3 should not transcode all the time, no. You can tell on the details screen. It should have DD, DTS, DD DTS, Stereo, or PRIVATE listed after the "more..." option. What does your show there? You should see "DD DTS" shown there. Your debug info earlier showed this. So yes, its only private that cannot be forced to any other than auto and why.

 

The short version:

In private mode, ac3/dts has to transcode or 5.1 sound produces silence in your headphones.

This makes it so easy. If you can remember to logout always, this is enough. The next user will be prompted with the login screen. If you cannot remember to do this change "remember last user" to NO. This will cause the popup above to appear. The wording is purposely making you now choose YES and every user after will have a login screen presented even if they cant remember to log out.

This was the only part missing. The dialog to ask users "are you sure" because this option has to log them out.

I'm scared to update!!!!!

I have the zip from the other night as backup!

 

I love it. xD

It doesnt change anything except for 2 scripts. The preferences gets a cool new option that helps clarify and control the behavior of the "remember user" setting. Then the viewcontroller gets a dialog to thank the user for being so cool and a sleep 3 seconds to show it. That is all the added benefits there are. Pretty dumb update. Yeah but while I was fix the "remember me" I wanted to thank people who helped debug the app with me (yes, this includes you :)). That parting dialog you see when exit the app is because of you all. I apologize for the un-centered text it uses. I didn't space it out like I should have. This lets us make that a bug and fix it later. Haw. So thanks for all the fish so far. You don't have to update right now if you do not want to. I also keep all the versions as .zips so if there was an issue we can roll back as far as you want.

 

EDIT:

 

Corrected the spelling mistake with "scren" on the "remember user" dialog (you can see it above) and also spaced out the exit message so it looks centered now (which it doesn't above). Should look better now, see for yourself. Then it looks like the app doesn't want you to leave. The way it asks goodbye, and then says it will be waiting.

Is there something I'm missing? I've installed this version of the roku app from your channel on two different roku boxes. The problem I'm having is the app keeps resetting itself and causes me to connect the app to my roku username and server again. This happens maybe once a month or more. Would this be caused by an update to the app and all settings reset? One big issue this causes, includes all my settings for both apps. I don't use the defaults because I need to decode AAC to MP3 and so forth and a few other settings to get the streaming just right. 

 

Did I miss something or did something change, or is this normal protocol for the app?

I will look into how _not_ to have the app always want to erase its settings when updating. I apologize for the problem. I need the mpeg4 to h264 and mp2/mp3 to aac both set to no. Every update the defaults used make me always have to change max video bitrate, turn off theme music, show missing seasons to no, change no for the two options mentioned above, then change the max framerate up to 61.

The 3 is on 2.20.

I'm still running the final zip you had me use after we tested.

Ahh yes, you feel the pain hahah I wish I new more about development as I would jump on and help decipher this as it's quite a pain. There must be something to take away from the normal emby app and the location of it's settings. Once the normal app is updated the settings stay the same. I haven't had to re-input the settings in the normal emby app and it's basically seamless.
