z0mbi 76
Any word on this? New Win10 Xbone dash is next week, or so I hear.
tadbitnerdy 2
Please tell me this is still happening. I don't want to switch to Plex. The DLNA capability of the Xbox One works, and it isn't bad (so far), but I want the full Emby experience (backdrops, theme music, etc...) that I can get in Emby for Kodi. Please? Maybe? z0mbi 76
I am running both Plex and emby right now in order to view my media on Xbones. Looking forward to an emby app for Xbone so I can uninstall Plex and cancel my monthly PlexPass subscription Thats money that should be going into emby's pockets.

Phrak 0
Apologies for the fairly n00bish question, but how do applications like Plex & Netflix get their apps published/available to the XB1 App Store? Is their front-end application code/architecture vastly different to Emby? BTW Plex is now free for the XB1: https://plex.tv/xbox/

Currently the Xbox platform is closed to the public. To publish an app, you have to become a Microsoft partner. Plex was able to do that because it's much more commercialised. Emby is open source (apart from a few 3rd party apps), where as Plex isn't.
jasonmcroy 315
It will be great when we can publish an App for Xbox One. I just received and Xbox One for Christmas and I am almost convinced that it can really replace my HTPC setup (still need the server, but that's it). So far, everything I have thrown at it plays very nicely and it integrates perfectly with my cable box. With the other apps like Netflix and Amazon, I really have no need for another box at this point. It works great with my Harmony Remote as well. Oh yeah, I can play games on it too! I have been using the DLNA solution and the web app via Edge to play my Emby files. They play just fine, it's just not very workable with remote usage. An App would solve that one for me. I would totally be a willing tester on that one.

calvin_evird 2
Apologies about asking this, there was a bit of back and forth in the forum that I kind of skipped to the end. Basically was wanting to ask whether there is or will soon be a native xbox 360 app or not? Basically only reason I'm staying on Plex is that I can use all the 360's and PS3s in the house as a plex player. Now that I'm looking into paying for a lifetime subscription I've been tossing up between emby and plex. Basically if there is a native one in the works, or something similar (not a huge fan of the media player centre plugin personally although I know a lot of people who love it) then I will definitely go emby as i prefer it more, but if not, I'll probably end up going on plex. Thanks guys for any help!!

Thanks guys for any help!! This thread is really about the XBOne which we do plan to be on as soon as possible. I won't rule it out but I won't lead you on either - we do not have any current projects creating a native 360 app but you can use your 360 as a Media Center extender and then use the Emby for WMC plug-in.

Apologies about the thread hijack, didn't really want to create a new thread for what I thought was a similar question. Its unfortunate to hear about no projects natively for the 360, although considering the 360 is getting obsolete its definitely understandable. Unfortunately me and WMC don't exactly get along too well, but I guess I'll have to think through what to do. I really appreciate the super fast answer, and definitely helped me out, thanks mate!!
Rowlett 9
any more news on xboxOne app or is it the case of still waiting on microsoft to open the doors? :-)
techywarrior 688
Still waiting on MS. But MS said "soon" when asked this week at the dotNET conference. So maybe soon. LOL
swhitmore 781
So rumours are suggesting that the Windows Store will be coming to the Xbox One in June. It would be great to see a native app. I know Emby is working using the browser, but I think there is great potential here for a dedicated app. http://www.winbeta.org/news/windows-10-redstone-rs2-to-launch-in-spring-2017-rs1-coming-this-june

Luke 37125
Although the universal platform for xbox one apps isn't here quite yet, you guys should take a look at Emby Theater on Xbox One for now to tide you over: http://emby.media/emby-theater-xboxone.html I think it will really surprise you. It controls perfectly with your gamepad and even supports AC-3 pass-through. And it has Live TV support.
swhitmore 781
That looks awesome. I might give this a crack tonight just out of interest. I already have a htpc in that room, but it would be cool to see it working on the Xbox, and maybe even one day replace my PC with it.
FrostByte 5053
Looks real good. Played with it some, but I might wait for the actual app which will hopefully pass-through DTS also. It's a very good option though
techywarrior 688
Overall not bad. Analog stick doesn't seem to work (required to use d-pad to navigate) which also may be why I couldn't navigate using the Xbox App's "remote control". Would like to see their RT/LT or RB/LB be mapped to page up/down to navigate around better. Definitely going to be good once it can get wrapped up as a Xbox App (when MS opens that up)
