Can you share a file with me that won't play via dropbox or OneDrive or similar? Need the file locally to figure it out

Vicpa, how does it fail exactly? Does it have the failure notification after it doesn't play? I have one, it has TrueHD for audio. I will test a few movies when I get home. My DTS-HD MKVs seem to play fine.

Hi,

They give a message "The video failed to play". 7Illusions PM'd you a link to a file.

I assume the DTS-HD's mkv's are being transcoded unless you know some magic I don't. (I really hope you do :) !). The ones that I have that don't seem to play are high bitrate rips, If you have any with ac3 audio with a bit rate over 3000kps give them a try.

This is info on the file I uploaded for 7

Video

Codec H264
Profile High
Level 30
Resolution 720x480
Aspect ratio 4:3
Anamorphic No
Interlaced No
Framerate 23.97602
Bitrate 3408 kbps
Bit depth 8 bit
Pixel format yuv420p
Ref frames 2
CABAC Yes

Audio
Language eng
Codec AC3
Layout 5.1
Channels 6 ch
Bitrate 375 kbps
Sample rate 48000 khz
Default Yes

Xzener it will be great to hear your results. Want to make sure I not doing something wrong with my rips. :)

Thanks!

Well, normally, HD audio is usually packaged with ac3 (I think). All of my BD rips to MKV are either TrueHD or DTS-HD. All of them play fine in the web client. So transcoded movies that play fine in the web client SHOULD play fine in the W8.1 app. I miss Tikuf during times like this. We'll figure it out. I will be home in a couple hours, I will run some tests.

Vicpa, which movie is failing for you? One of mine is American Sniper.

The best person that you need to figure it out is already here in this thread with you. 7 knows the Win 8.1 formats better than anyone.

I just played the first 5 minutes of this file with no issues.  It did transcode though

I don't believe a TrueHD track within a rip can also contain the AC3 version of audio.  Though you can have a separate TrueHD and AC3 track in the same mkv.  I think DTS-HD/DTS is the only codec where both can be contained in a single track and the audio equipment determines which one to play without any transcoding.  With TrueHD you have to convert it if needed either during ripping process or transcode while playing if your equipment doesn't support lossless.

Hi,

Sorry If I am confusing the issue. Transcoding playback is just fine. 7 and I are trying to hammer out a direct stream issue I am having in Win 10.  MKV support is in there h264/h265 and ac3/acc audio. Most mkv's that meet that criteria direct stream/play just fine. Some like the examples above don't. They play directly just fine in the native win 10 apps mvoies/tv or video preview.

Xzener a couple a examples are Cast Away, Modern Times (1936) and Munity on the Bounty (1935).

Now that I'm awake.   Can the number of songs it grabs out of a playlist for Shuffle be increased?  Either an option, or set to 100 songs which is what I believe the webclient is set at now.  Right now the app looks like it's only grabbing 50 songs.  100 songs would get you about 5 hours of music if you don't skip too many songs.

Thanks, works great

Experiencing something strange. No other movie (that I have seen yet) does this... When I enter "Chappie" details page, the app closes. Anyone else seen anything like this??

Also, video backdrops (VBD) are not stopping when backing out of details pages. It continues to play behind backdrops.

I just ripped this one yesterday (haven't seen it yet though).  Looks like the info page comes up good, tried a few others and nothing like that yet.

The same MKV (TrueHD) transcodes and plays on other clients.

Ok, this time the app says its transcoding but the video never started. It didn't fail like before. This looks to be the same problem Vicpa is having. Here is my transcode log...

Strange. Thanks FrostByte. Chappie is constantly closing the app. I will try rebooting the PC and report back. This is so weird.

Update: Nope, still closing the app. The first time after a reboot it tried to enter but closed before loading the page. Now it just closes right away.

Nothing out of the ordinary in the folder...

I'm going to try moving it to another HDD,

Update: Nope. Still closing the app... Or is it crashing?? @@7illusions can we see log files with your app??

7illusions,

Loving VBDs. Just need to get playback to stop when leaving the details page of a movie. Is it possible to hide the"pause/ffw/rew" (see below)?? Is it possible to add a layer in front of the VBD?? The details page adds a smoke colored layer over the backdrop allowing for the description of the movie to be read easily. Some VBDs are bright, its difficult to read the description while the VBD is playing.

Yes, logs are found by bringing out the charms bar -> Settings -> View logs.

There should be a Crashlog at the end of the list of logs

I noticed my wma files just recently are being transcoded again.  For awhile they weren't being transcoded after the fixes in streamingprofile.  Though it looks like they are being transcoded to 128-bit wma files now and not mp3 like before?

Can we replace the video loading circle with the app loading circle?? The video loading circle is dated IMO. The app laoding one looks better.

7, are you able to use Microsofts loading circle for videos in the app? Looks better IMO.
