I only choose to beat this dead horse because the difficulty I'm having in this area stands in such stark contrast to the rapid and amazing development work going on everywhere else around this platform, from the server feature set and add-ons to the mobile apps. MediaBrowser is a stunning achievement and plays a central role in my house. In short, the Xbox 360 cannot "see" the MB3 DLNA server on the network when I access the "System Video Player" app. What it's really looking for, as far as I can tell, is a Windows Media Player Sharing or equivalent service, since Windows PCs and other third-party DLNA servers on my network appear in this list. In lieu of directly accessing the DLNA server using System Video Player, as I do via the "equivalent" Media Player app on the Xbox One with great success, I often use my mobile app or the web interface to "Play To" the console. However, this only works for certain files and file types. For example, Play To seems to attempt to play MP4s directly to the console, even if the files in question meet the criteria for transcoding under the Xbox 360 profile, resulting in consistent failure (the biggest problem with the playback of my MP4s on my 360 is the number of large files in my library encoded with 64-bit offsets). I have attempted to make use of MBC and the Xbox 360 MCE for media playback, as the interface is beautiful, fun, and intuitive. However, it is an inelegant and impermanent solution for a number of reasons and MBC seems to be nearly deprecated anyway. There are other things I need my Windows client PC doing besides hosting a RD connection from my 360 and transcoding video files off a network share. I have attempted to run alternative, third-party DLNA servers that the 360 will recognize (such as Serviio), alongside MB3, but I hate them. For one thing, MB3 is the only DLNA server I know of that discerns the difference between a 32-bit MP4 (which I would want the 360 to play directly) and a 64-bit MP4 (which I would want/need transcoded), which means any other solution will necessarily transcode absolutely everything at great cost to my server's performance. But most of all, by not using MB3 as my DLNA server, I lose access to the amazing plugins/add-ons and content management solutions employed by MB3, including and especially Collections and Playlists. Short of buying an Xbox 360 for the development team or replacing my own Xbox with a Roku, options that have been categorically denied to me by my wife, what can be done? P.S. I'm obsessed with MediaBrowser. As I mentioned on Twitter a few months ago, it's revolutionized entertainment in my home. The first thing I do every morning is log into the web interface to see if there's a new beta release of the server. I'm tech savvy, but not a dev, so if I can be of any help here, please let me know!

I really hope that someone can help. I've used MB3 since about January and had no issues until a month or two ago. I use MB3 primarily to watch my movies (mp4/m4v) on the iPads via the media browser app (latest update). Previously, I had no issues watching movies both within my network and externally. Then, all of the sudden, playback stopped working on most movies and I can't figure out the cause. I have an iPad 2 (iOS7) and an iPad Mini (iOS8) and both have same issues. I am able to see the library and select the movie, but the movies just won't load. Just get the spinning wheel and sometimes I have to manually kill the app to get out of it. It doesn't happen with all movies, but it happens with most. To clarify, if a particular movie doesn't work, it never works and if a movie works, then it always works. Server (Version 3.0.5395.0) is on a Windows 7 64bit machine. If I use Safari to access the server, I am able to play all the movies fine. I am okay with doing this but that process is not so easy for the other people in the house. I've uninstalled the app and MB3 Server and started from scratch but had no luck. I love this program when it works and I really hope that someone can help me with this. Attached is the log that I think that you need. I looked at the transcoding logs (I enabled them) but it doesn't create a log when movies fail on the iPad; it doesn't get that far. server-63549186123.zip

Is the Media Browser Roku app more likely to play a video file in Mp4 rather than Mkv? I ask because I am coming across an increasing number of video files that will not play on the Roku app--actually the audio plays fine but there's no picture. These same files play perfectly on Play On, VLC, Windows Media Player and the couple times I tried even on the web version of Media Browser. It seems like the files the Roku app doesn't like are usually in the Mkv format. On top of that I've noticed that if I have a file that plays fine on Roku Media Browser but where the subtitles won't play if I use Mkv Merge to remux the file so the audio stream is identified, the subtitle language is identified and the subtitles are flagged as default there is only a 50/50 chance that the resulting Mkv file will play properly on my Roku 3. So my question comes down to--are there video or audio formats that Media Browser Roku likes better than others? Is there a higher chance of compatibility with specific audio/video formats? Joe Smart

I've been troubleshooting for several days poor playback quality on MBC in WMC on my Xbox 360 extenders. I have LAV installed as my splitter, video and audio codec on my HTPC. I also have W7Tweaker set to use LAV Audio for mp4's vice microsoft. At first I thought it was due to unsupported container/codecs. So I ran all my files through handbrake. The movies in question are now: Container: mp4 Video: H.264, 4.0 profile, 1280x544 Audio: AAC, 2 channel All the above should play natively on the Xbox 360. I also have the Xbox 360 profile set under the DLNA portion of the MBS. It has mp4 with h264 and aac audio set for 'Direct Play' (see attached pic). I also have MBC to 'warn if transcoding' and I do NOT get a warning so I assume it is not transcoding. When I play the file through MBC in WMC on my HTPC it looks great! LAV splitter shows audio being played through LAV audio in the windows task bar. However, when I go to my Xbox and use it in extender mode and access MBC through the WMC interface and play the same file the video quality is horrible. Very blocky and poor quality, audio plays fine. The file should be direct playing on the Xbox, so why is the video quality so bad?

MBC & LAV Filters: MBT Install Fixed All but MP4 Audio
Tanamur posted a topic in Windows Media Center
Hi MB3-Community - The Good: Since it 'tis the season to be jolly I just want to say how happy I am that MKV (video & audio) and FLAC (audio) files are playing in Windows Media Center (WMC)/MB3-Classic on my HTPC and Extender for the first time ever thanks to installing Media Browser Theater (MBT)! The Bad: However, MP4 audio to accompany perfect MP4 video still evades me in 2013 on the Extender/MBC (see here). It has always worked fine on the HTPC. Does anyone have any suggestions for LAV settings for MP4 audio for the extender....please? What I Did: With a bit of time over the holidays I thought I would install the LAV filters based on the tutorial here. Unfortunately, the server that hosted the turtorial has not been able to restore it. So I decided to install MBT with the default LAV configuration as suggested. Needless to say I was surprised when it was the solution to MBC on my extender for so many items. Nice work dev team. If anyone has any suggestions that have not been covered in the topics below please feel free to join in. NOTE: When I attempt to check the codecs that are installed by clicking on the link in the Help>About screen in Windows Media Player 12 (WMP12), it just hangs and has to be killed. This is a new situation since installing MBT/LAV. See FAQ: How do I tell which codecs are installed on my computer? Example MP4 video/audio file with a dump of Mediainfo information. The audio is reported as AAC which is supported by my Extender. MBServer: Version 3.0.5083.27698 MBClassic: Version 3.0.100.0 B12-4.1 MBTheater: Not installed PC Server OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1 Codecs: Nothing other than installed with Win7 out of the box and MBServer Extender: HP MediaSmart Connect x280n Sorry if this is a bump of my own topic but could someone instruct me how I can go about troubleshooting mp4 audio playback failure on my extender? I am no expert on containers and codecs. From my standpoint, the mp4 files play video & audio in everything locally on my HTPC/laptop including Media Center and MB-Classic. Also, the mp4 files play video & audio with no problem on the extender in the native HP interface both from the local hard disk and network share from the same HPTC/Laptop (so the device can play the video/audio). It is just the playback through Media Center and MB-Classic that fails on the audio portion on the extender. Video works perfectly. ffprobe = Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: aac (mp4a / 0x6134706D), 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp, 124 kb/s (default) I would really appreciate a point in the right direction. I have not started installing codecs when I don't understand most of the settings and the files play fine locally outside of Media Center. Full clean logs are in the other topic. http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/topic/2583-extender-mbc-audio-in-mp4-container-not-playing/ Thanks, Tanamur
