  1. Hi, I've been using XBOX 360 as an extender and now i'm having pause/resume/skip issues. It seems that only transcoded files from server are unable to pause or skip. When I try it I receive an error and have to start from beginning. But when files are "Direct Playing" pause/skip.. works Do you have any solution to my problem? Reg, Arni Thor

Sorry for questions about “old technology” but my extender has its usefulness for now. Problem: My HP x280n Media Center Extender (MCE) will not play MP4 container AAC audio (2.0 or 5.1) using Media Browser 3 server (MB3) and Media Browser Classic (MBC) in Win7 Media Center. MP4 containers with a range of audio codecs are supported (see above). Tried Troubleshooting: PC Server tested: MP4 container files play audio/video in Media Browser Web Client , Media Player 12, Media Center Pictures/Videos and in MBC. HP Extender tested: The extender has a local, removable HDD and Wi-Fi & Wired network connections (I'm using wired). A full range of MP4 files play audio/video both from the local HDD and networked NAS disk in the basic extender interface (not Media Center). In the Media Center interface the MP4 video plays beautifully from the PC Server, however no audio will play in either the Pictures/Videos section or from MBC. In the Media Center interface in either the Pictures/Videos section or from MBC, both audio & video play beautifully for .avi, .ts. I have not installed LAV filters so I do not play MKV over the extender. Below are the audio/video container and codecs supported by the extender: Below are the mp4, mkv & avi parameters for the files I tested: ffprobe version N-58015-g8cdf4e0 Copyright (c) 2007-2013 the FFmpeg developers built on Nov 10 2013 18:01:44 with gcc 4.8.2 (GCC) configuration: --enable-gpl --enable-version3 --disable-w32threads --enable-av isynth --enable-bzlib --enable-fontconfig --enable-frei0r --enable-gnutls --enab le-iconv --enable-libass --enable-libbluray --enable-libcaca --enable-libfreetyp e --enable-libgsm --enable-libilbc --enable-libmodplug --enable-libmp3lame --ena ble-libopencore-amrnb --enable-libopencore-amrwb --enable-libopenjpeg --enable-l ibopus --enable-librtmp --enable-libschroedinger --enable-libsoxr --enable-libsp eex --enable-libtheora --enable-libtwolame --enable-libvidstab --enable-libvo-aa cenc --enable-libvo-amrwbenc --enable-libvorbis --enable-libvpx --enable-libwavp ack --enable-libx264 --enable-libxavs --enable-libxvid --enable-zlib libavutil 52. 52.100 / 52. 52.100 libavcodec 55. 41.100 / 55. 41.100 libavformat 55. 21.100 / 55. 21.100 libavdevice 55. 5.100 / 55. 5.100 libavfilter 3. 90.102 / 3. 90.102 libswscale 2. 5.101 / 2. 5.101 libswresample 0. 17.104 / 0. 17.104 libpostproc 52. 3.100 / 52. 3.100 Input #0, mov,mp4,m4a,3gp,3g2,mj2, from 'Click.(2000).S2013E01.mp4': Metadata: major_brand : isom minor_version : 1 compatible_brands: isomavc1 creation_time : 2013-01-05 11:40:01 title : Click (2000) S2013E01 album : Click (2000) date : 2013 show : Click (2000) genre : Documentary season_number : 221 episode_sort : 1 Duration: 00:24:06.14, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 1023 kb/s Stream #0:0(und): Video: h264 (High) (avc1 / 0x31637661), yuv420p(tv, bt709), 720x404, 890 kb/s, 25 fps, 25 tbr, 25k tbn, 50 tbc (default) Metadata: creation_time : 2013-01-05 11:40:01 handler_name : Video Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: aac (mp4a / 0x6134706D), 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp, 124 kb/s (default) Metadata: creation_time : 2013-01-05 11:40:02 handler_name : English Thanks in advance for any insight on the problem , Tanamur ffmpeg-ad70d4dd-2169-4f71-8825-090abefcd5f9-mp4.txt server-63522216771.log
  3. Hi guys, As another long time MB user who just recently upgraded to MB3 and MBC, I find I have a disappointing problem. My PC is more than powerful enough to run MBC just fine, but when I run it through my XBox 360 extender on a wired connection (not wifi) the interface slows down (lags) so much that it is unuseable. This happens with the 4 themes I have: Classic, Subdued, Chocolate and Xenon. I don't have any other plugins installed. The only solution I have found so far is to turn off all backdrops, everywhere. This makes it useable, but still slow. On my PC, there is no problem using backdrops. All of my files play just fine, with no lagging or stuttering, both on thed PC and the extender. It's only the interface that is laggy over the extender. BTW, all my artwork is from metadata, not custom stuff. MB2 ran all of this just fine. I hope there's a solution to this problem, because it seems a shame to have the possibility of a beautiful interface with lots of nice artwork, but be required to shut it off to make it useable. I'm not a programmer, but it seems illogical to me that MBC can stream HD video files to my extender correctly, but lags when it has to handle a bunch of 0.5 MB jpg files. Can this have anything to do with the fact that I enabled chapters for all my files? I can't post the log file because it's too big (36 MB, is that normal?). Any help would be appreicated. Keith
  4. I've been troubleshooting for several days poor playback quality on MBC in WMC on my Xbox 360 extenders. I have LAV installed as my splitter, video and audio codec on my HTPC. I also have W7Tweaker set to use LAV Audio for mp4's vice microsoft. At first I thought it was due to unsupported container/codecs. So I ran all my files through handbrake. The movies in question are now: Container: mp4 Video: H.264, 4.0 profile, 1280x544 Audio: AAC, 2 channel All the above should play natively on the Xbox 360. I also have the Xbox 360 profile set under the DLNA portion of the MBS. It has mp4 with h264 and aac audio set for 'Direct Play' (see attached pic). I also have MBC to 'warn if transcoding' and I do NOT get a warning so I assume it is not transcoding. When I play the file through MBC in WMC on my HTPC it looks great! LAV splitter shows audio being played through LAV audio in the windows task bar. However, when I go to my Xbox and use it in extender mode and access MBC through the WMC interface and play the same file the video quality is horrible. Very blocky and poor quality, audio plays fine. The file should be direct playing on the Xbox, so why is the video quality so bad?
  5. In the forum, I've seen various answers for the blue lines in MB Classic. Is there one definitive solution I can use to solve it? On my PC, I can see Over/Underscan in advanced options, but I don't see that on my XBox. Thanks!
  6. Server Version 3.0.5239.43180 Extender: HP MediaSmart Connect x280n Hi Devs - I just wanted to report that you have breathed a bit of new life into my old extender which has been showing up for quite sometime but not responding to play-to commands. EDIT NOTE: Fix Dlna Play To/Server issues with WDTV live devices (may benefit other devices as well). Well, after the dev update today, I am able to redirect playback from my web client and Android tablet client to the extender's native interface (not Media Center-see above). In this mode I was able to play MP4, MKV and ISO content to the device. This is a big thing. The controls are still quirky (tablet controls disappear, remote control pause/resume causes restart from beginning, etc) but this development direction is great. Is there anything I can do to improve this with something other than the default profile? The closest profile/device is the Linksys DMA2100. Thanks, Tanamur
  7. Hello, I'm getting the "cannot play video" error in MBC on my Xbox 360 for files I'm sure should play OK. They are mainly 720p .avi videos (h.264 + MPEG AAC). Most are in stereo, some 5.1. They all play in WMP and WMC just fine. They are housed on a NAS, but I use the correct path reference (that is, not a drive letter). All my 1080p .wmv and 480 .avi (DIVX + AC3) from the same NAS play fine on the Xbox. Oddly, one .avi video plays OK and it is the same exact format as the ones that won't play (h.264, 23.9 fps, 4:2:0 YUV, MPEG AAC-SBR 48kHz Stereo). I installed the Shark007 codec pack and set it to the default settings, checked the MBC log files, restated the PC, scoured the MB3 support pages, everything I can think of, but couldn't find a resolution. The log below shows that I played 12 Years a Slave.wmv without a problem, but 21 Jump Street.avi stopped MBC dead in its tracks and gave the "Cannot Play Video" error. Any ideas as to how I can fix this issue? I figure its a codec problem, but I'm not sure what to try next. Thanks in advance. Dedicated Media PC info: 192.168.1.112 Win 7 x32 Shark007 x32 Advanced codec pack No other 3rd party codecs installed
  8. I've had MB3 Server and MBC working well for several months now. MB3 Server is running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 box and MBC is running on a Windows 7 Pro x64 machine. I'm looking to get rid of a couple of FiOS STBs and had an XBOX 360 kicking around so I decided to set it up as an extender. Everything works fine and I can access shared folders on the Win Server 2008 box from the XBOX extender. When I try launching MBC on the extender, however, I get the following error: Re-trying makes no difference. The firewall is turned off on the server and I'm using the default MB3 ports. I can access the library from all machines on the network except the XBOX 360 extender. Any ideas? Thanks -- Steve
  9. Hi MB3-Community - The Good: Since it 'tis the season to be jolly I just want to say how happy I am that MKV (video & audio) and FLAC (audio) files are playing in Windows Media Center (WMC)/MB3-Classic on my HTPC and Extender for the first time ever thanks to installing Media Browser Theater (MBT)! The Bad: However, MP4 audio to accompany perfect MP4 video still evades me in 2013 on the Extender/MBC (see here). It has always worked fine on the HTPC. Does anyone have any suggestions for LAV settings for MP4 audio for the extender....please? What I Did: With a bit of time over the holidays I thought I would install the LAV filters based on the tutorial here. Unfortunately, the server that hosted the turtorial has not been able to restore it. So I decided to install MBT with the default LAV configuration as suggested. Needless to say I was surprised when it was the solution to MBC on my extender for so many items. Nice work dev team. If anyone has any suggestions that have not been covered in the topics below please feel free to join in. NOTE: When I attempt to check the codecs that are installed by clicking on the link in the Help>About screen in Windows Media Player 12 (WMP12), it just hangs and has to be killed. This is a new situation since installing MBT/LAV. See FAQ: How do I tell which codecs are installed on my computer? Example MP4 video/audio file with a dump of Mediainfo information. The audio is reported as AAC which is supported by my Extender. Which Version of Roku?

I'm looking to extend my MB experience beyond the HTPC for the first time and the Roku looks promising. Is there any reason I would want to get the Roku 3 over the Roku 2 if I intend to use it only for MB? Would any other "extender" be recommended over the Roku (Apple TV, etc.)?
  12. Hi @@Soultaker - I have noticed when I change the Configuration > Rush Options > Optimize for low fidelity extenders tick box on the extender that it changes the Configuration for the HTPC server as well...and vice verse. Is this the way it is supposed to work or do the two accounts have separate configuration files? Thanks

I am no expert on containers and codecs. From my standpoint, the mp4 files play video & audio in everything locally on my HTPC/laptop including Media Center and MB-Classic. Also, the mp4 files play video & audio with no problem on the extender in the native HP interface both from the local hard disk and network share from the same HPTC/Laptop (so the device can play the video/audio). It is just the playback through Media Center and MB-Classic that fails on the audio portion on the extender. Video works perfectly. ffprobe = Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: aac (mp4a / 0x6134706D), 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp, 124 kb/s (default) I would really appreciate a point in the right direction. I have not started installing codecs when I don't understand most of the settings and the files play fine locally outside of Media Center. Full clean logs are in the other topic. http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/topic/2583-extender-mbc-audio-in-mp4-container-not-playing/ Thanks, Tanamur

    MBC with an Extender

Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone has successfully got MBC working with an extender. It works fine for me, but is stuck on the default theme. I've tried copying the MBCommonXML.config with with Scott-MediabrowserXML.config with no luck. Any suggestions? Thanks heaps. Edit: Actually I just tried to watch something, I'm getting the error "WARNING cannot directly access media. Will attempt to stream. Use UNC paths on server for direct playback.
