Do you want to save all of the Primary images so that they can be restored later?  Eigeplackter, please explain in more detail what you want.

Yes that‘s the idea I had when I mentioned it.

Preferably automated backup and restore, but I‘m not sure if that‘s possible, because the path to the media would need to be included in the file and actually be the same, when trying to restore.

I wouldnt mind if it would just be an automated backup and I would have to manually select the correct poster.

But while Im typing this, Im not sure even that‘s possible (no idea about coding).

All my posters are located in the media folder, but all are named poster.*.

So the script would need to search in every directory for *poster.* and copy it to a specified location, while renaming the file i.e. <foldername>.poster.* for movies and <foldername>.<actualfilename>.* for tvshows.
<actualfilename> would be necessary for season posters, as those are named seasonXX-poster.*

I know how to fetch the primary, logo, thumb, and backdrop images for every Emby image. I also know how to store them back into Emby. Both are done with the provided Emby API.  What I don't know is how to save these images on a local computer. I am worried that CORS or other security issues may prevent or limit storing data locally.  There may be an API I can use to store this data within one of the Emby databases.  I will look into how to do this. It would be a cool feature.

Custom Provider plugin can do that (and ton of other things) for you.

GrimReaper..

It's nice to hear from you, you always have great ideas.

Is there a simple plugin that can be used as a model for building a plugin.  I would like to build a plugin but don't know how.  I would like to use simple tools, like an editor if possible, to minimize the initial learning curve.

Hey up, Vic, always glad to pass through your thread. 🍻

Mickle's plugin is the only one I'm aware of that offers backup of that kind, though I wouldn't call it simple, it's chock-full of options, I assume code is just as complex.

You might have a look, as you might DM @mickle026also, he's always open to collaboration from what I've observed.

As for general plugin building, @chef and @Cheesegeezer are your go-to players.

Also, have a look at recently introduced Emby SDK:

GrimReaper, the new SDK is amazing. I don't know how the Emby team does so much work. Thanks for pointing it out to me.  I am going to try and create a simple plugin.

Actually on the subject of both Tags and Plugins's - I actually successfully modified Cheesegeezers MediaInfo plugin to write all the MediaInfo standard codecs to each item (as well as the extended codecs) - making it now very easy to hunt for specialist codecs via tag .. :)

ie on a standard web filter by tag (or any client, they all do this I believe) -

I've often though this tagging App (html) should be added as a proper plugin - I'm pretty sure it would soon be at the top of the popularity list !

hello rbjtech...  could you help me get started.  If I could just get going with a basic plugin, I think I could do everything else.  Is it possible to use javascript in a plugin, like its used in nodejs? Or, do I need to learn C#?

Hi Vic, I'm really not the best person to ask here as I'm just adding to existing code via VS (cloned from Github) - but JS in a plugin is definitely an option.

If you are using Emby API's (which I presume you are) then it should translate reasonably well into the Emby Plugin framework.

Have a reach out to @Cheesegeezer or @chef  is my advice.

I've not delved into the new Emby SDK, but cloning a public repo from Cheese or Chef might be a good indication on what's needed.

Why shoudln't you be allowed to be logged in parallel ?

Im right now logged into 7 emby devices with the same user (incl. Emby Tool).

Emby Tool counts toward your device limit, but that's kinda hard to reach.

Only thing I could think of, would be if that user is limited to 1 stream, mine is set to unlimited iirc thats default.

Lookatyou

Hello @VicMoore

You kept doing a great job on this,

Would you please add custom rating in bulk edit too?

I am managing my music library and i would like to set "Approved" as Custom Rating for the non-explicit ones.

Thanks a lot for this

btw Vic @VicMoore - Quick Tip - use the @ sign before the name and people will get alerted to your response/request - ie @Lookatyou rather than just Lookatyou ..

Hello, @VicMoore, I'm looking to try out your Emby tool, it looks amazing but for some reason my sign in won't take. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, my username and password is correct and as far as I can see in my settings, the server IP and port is correct. There is no indication as to which one is incorrect. I've retried about 10 times! Help lol

Edit: I'm thinking I'm entering the IP wrong, do you include the http:// and the 4-digit port number at the end of it?

Hello dee101...

I am here to help 🙂  Before you try to sign on, press the F12 key to bring up the browser console. Then sign on and copy the contents of the console and send it to me. This way I can see what's happening. Keep in mind that the tool is only tested on Edge and Chrome browsers.
